qxc is the only pro I know of that I knew, 1-cannot resist a challenge. 2- Is tryhard enough to play a lot of games.
Keeping these things in mind, I decided to issue a challenge he could never resist. A best of 31. this is as far as I know, the longest series to be played and broadcasted in one day by two pros in the history of starcraft 2, and perhaps any game.
epic as fuck and definitely gonna check this out ... although im not sure who this guy catz is playing. i mean, i think i probably have heard of him...
What will be the maps? You should start out with the ridiculous Blizzard maps like Incineration Zone and Steppes of War and slowly build up to Calm Before the Storm and some of the maps in the TL Map Contest. Make it an evolution of StarCraft maps.

Really looking forward to it, unless someone decent casts I'll probably just have both streams open and dual watch it. Also if you want to make the mappool similiar to the epic bw bo50 which was pretty much only played on different versions of Lost Temple, just go for shakuras, there should be 31 versions of that one by now.
A different map every time, please! Include some of the maps in NASL/IPL/TL map contests, every competitive map ever, gotta have some micro challenge customs in there as well, no doubt.

since there will be so many games hope to see season 1 blizzard maps/ICCUP maps/TL Map Contest maps and other custom maps haven't seen games on season 1 blizzard maps for so long lolo
Lmao, I can't even imagine the mind games that will go into a bo31. At what point do you cheese? When does mental fatigue set in? How serious can one even take each individual game?
Dam, two of my fav sc2 personalities duking it out O_O. My Latin American brother or my fellow California inhabitant? The tree-hugging John Lennon or the saucy, hip-moving Cumbia King? One things is for sure, viewers shall not lose.
I'm expecting a lot of crazy early cheese otherwise the players will be exhausted too soon. Plus with so many matches it doesn't matter about throwing away games.
On December 19 2011 07:54 ChemBroTron wrote: I voted yes for 31 different maps, but... which 31 maps should that be? And is Steppes of War and Kulas Revine in it?
Kulas Extreme might be a nice diversion, but Steppes is just imba. I'd like to see some classics (scrap station?) along with a majority of the maps coming from recent map making comps. Could get some decent exposure for those maps and keep things interesting.
When i saw BO31 on the sidebar i thought it was like best 31 moments in starcraft's history. Thank god i actually clicked in and saw it was a Bo31 matchup!
Insane! Get this on the calender so people don't miss it :p
1) Take a large pool of new maps from map maker community. The map-makes will gladly help you with that I assume.
2) Let the players each veto a number of maps, so that only 5-10 are left. This can be fun, to see which maps the players find imbalanced (or boring) at a first glance. Should ofc be streamed, with the players thinking out loud why the maps are good/bad for his race/playstyle.
3) Play a sub-BO3 on each of those maps. The score still add up, so that winning a map 2-0 is better than 2-1. Then you will get at least 2 games on each map, which can be fun, giving the players a chance to adapt.

More of a reward really
LOL well played ^^
Please cast these games I know you've got plenty of love from the community (I'm a fan as well), and people can always choose to watch a different stream if they don't feel like watching you in particular.
I feel like CatZ is going to take it because in a long series you need to vary your play if you want to win. Now in a BO31.... you HAVE to vary your play to win lol. Who is better at making shit up on the fly than CatZ? I mean qxc is pretty good at that kinda thing as well but he's no CatZ
You two are crazy and I love you for it! I voted CatZ simply because he is (probably) more active than qxc - he is still busy with school as far as I know. On the other hand, the player with more endurance might have the better chance. Will these games be casted? Ask TB, Day9 or someone like them to cast it, please.
I wonder if the final games in the series will be absolute train wrecks as both players start to run out of strats and metagame each other into oblivion.
Yes! I've been waiting for something like this... this will truly determine who is the better player. I'm rooting for CatZ but I have a feeling qxc is in a different league.
Wasn't sure I was going to make this until yesterday / this morning - have now cleared schedule and am pleased to say I will be casting the entire series live!
Wow this will be close, Catz is really in top form right now. And I was watching QXC last night, and he still controls those beastly multipronged attacks like nobodies business. I honestly don't know who will come out ahead.
Not only are they great players, but I think there's something to be said for the psychology of a series when you play against the same person this many times; the "smarter" player could get a real advantage...this will be a BLAST to observe!
Lol. I wonder how much the % of cheese vs standard games will there be? Probably will have two six-pool rushes and 6 bunker rushes in the 31 games too. =p
qxc is gonna make Catz look like the dog feces you scrape off of your shoe via the curb when you don't want to curse the crass on the side of the sidewalk with it.

There is a maximum of 31 games. First to 16 wins, wins. I don't know why Steppes of War is on there twice (#11 and #49).
31st map is team micro arena.. theres something wrong with that map pool..
I thought the BO31 was a typo. Then I looked again and thought something was up with my eyes. Then I laughed and realized it was a typo. Then I tuned into the stream and well...
While I'm glad there is a caster so I can see everything without the jumping around of both player cams at the same time, he seems like he has little clue what's going on. Good voice though.

QXC is really cheesy in this Bo31.... This kind of tricks works for little series like BO31, but when you really have to do long series (BO61) that doesn't work anymore..

This argument makes no sense. If a player consistently uses cheese, then future cheese plays from that player should not work because the opponent will anticipate it. However, this is not the case for CatZ. Clearly, the problem is not that qxc is using cheese. The problem is that CatZ is terrible at defending against cheese even when he anticipates it. Furthermore, he is terrible at maintaining a lead.

It is funny that when you were typing that, CatZ was down SIX games; he won only 25% of the times.

What I don't get is why they would do this during their team league games. Since they have been playing all morning that means they were unable to play in the IGN clan war.
(Before people say IGN games are days old.... They were played this morning/inprogress right now)
I think CatZ is saving Kulas Extreme and Random Micro Challenge for the rubber match or whenever someone is facing elimination... which means after this game if CatZ loses again.

GG to both players! So much 2 raxes lol...
Entertaining serie, hopefully the first of many to come! bo31 are where it's at haha. Too bad no Kulas Extreme and Micro Challenge.
I like steppes of war appearing in the map pool 3 times, 2 right next to eachother where one is a novice map LOL and is also the final map! Let's hope this goes to the distance.
Thanks for tuning in everyone It was great to have all 3 streams up! Apologies for missing stuff in the first bunch of games, honey-in-tea and a reasonable amount of pills to keep my voice going later things picked up later on and I was a lot more awake. qxc has a great ability to be everywhere at once! A great series and hats off to both players; some very high level play coming out of both. Of course the beginning was just mad (how many proxy buildings were there in the first 10 games!?) but things were even more epic once gameplay settled down later on.
I have no doubt CatZ will get a rematch soon and I hope it goes all the way to an ace 31st match! :-)
Thanks to all the people that tuned in on all streams (and those that helped me out via chat - much appreciated!). And the biggest applause to the players who managed 7 hours and 30 minutes without a break lasting longer than a few minutes. Heroic!

16-5 with only 45 minutes long macro game would take about 945 ingame minutes (15 hours 45 minutes). Not possible. In a BO31 (as in a BO7) you obviously see some all ins/cheeses.

Whenever I see posts like this (and I see them very often), I always get this image of a little kid throwing a tantrum for no reason. Why this imagery? In part, it's because I see the "lost all respect for X" fad so often, and because of how absurd it is. MVP does marine/tank/banshee? I see posts like "Oh, MVPs a scrub. I lost all respect for him." and a thousand more cases I've seen. It's unbelievable. It is ridiculous that someone can go from liking someone to absolutely hating and 'losing all respect' for them because they were already playing for 6 hours and didn't want to play for 6 more and wanted to throw in some short games. I hope you're not like this with people in real life :|.

I figured people in TeamLiquid likes to come here and say what their opinion is because they can, no one can say shit about how they feel about rantiing often times.
Great series, althought qxc is a real trooper I must say. :D
