Both our world's leaders and blue-bleeding fans reached out to us with a simple request: create an in-house tournament series featuring pro players from Evil Geniuses' StarCraft II division and broadcast the matches to the public. It was so simple and brilliant that we just had to suggest our partner Beyond Gaming get involved. After hearing their cries, we've decided that now it is the time to do it!
Beyond Gaming and Evil Geniuses are excited to launch the Most Evil Genius tournament series featuring the most evil of Evil Geniuses in two months of weekly live best-of-five and best-of-seven StarCraft II showmatches which will allow you, the viewers, to predict the games, participate in daily tournaments, and win some insane prizes! But first, let's explain how much fun this is going to be.
You'll have the ability to watch all the insane showmatches, but before you do, you'll be able to predict the results of each and every match on http://mostevil.evilgeniuses.net. By doing so, interacting with the website, participating in Daily Cups, and watching VODs, you'll earn coins which you'll then be able to use to "bid" on prizes. The more you participate in Daily Cups and interact with the website, the more coins you'll be able to earn and potentially redeem!
We asked our boys Greg "IdrA" Fields, Chris "HuK" Loranger, Geoff "iNcontroL" Robinson, and Bryce "Keyboard to the Face, IdrA, and Machine" Bates, if they wanted to be a part of this glorious event. They all happily obliged after being told they had no choice.
There were three rules they were told they must follow: try your hardest to smash your teammate's hopes and dreams, be as loving as your heart will allow, and play as evil as demonically possible. "These sound contradictory," said the players."Blah...blah...," we responded.
The format will utilize a round-robin group play where the four players will battle each other for the top two spots. Once determined, the top two will advance to a best-of-seven Grand Finals and the 3/4th place players will battle it out in a best-of-five determiner. Overall, this makes for a lot of awesome matches!
An unannounced popular caster will be commentating all of the action each Sunday at 4:00pm EST starting March 4, 2012! Don't worry if you can't watch the games live each week. We'll have all the VODs up immediately after they take place so that you can still participate.
Oh, and those prizes we were talking about...well, we pulled in the folks from SteelSeries, Kingston HyperX, In Win, and SplitReason to make sure that more people could win more stuff than most contests usually offer. You can get your hands on solid state drives, the latest gaming peripherals used by the pros of EG, the first ever consumer version of the In Win X-Frame chassis, awesome t-shirts, and more!
Don't forget to show off your StarCraft II skills by participating in BeyondGaming.com's Daily Cups which will take place for both North American players at 7:00pm EST and European players at 2:00pm EST each and every day for the entire duration of the tournament.
Participants will also be able to get their hands on Beyond Gaming's new BGLink application which allows StarCraft II players to view new and unique game data to improve their skills far beyond that which is offered by BattleNet. Additionally, while using the BGLink and participating in the Daily Cups, you'll experience BeyondGaming.com's automated StarCraft II competition system, the first and only of it's kind!
Oh, and just when you thought this couldn't get any better, we've worked with both Geoff "iNcontroL" Robinson and Benjamin "DeMusliM" Baker on a brand new series of Replay Review videos which will be sure to tickle your fancy! And as you can see by the title of this section, we're launching a brand new Replay Review video each and every week for sixteen weeks! Take a look at the weekly series below:
"We asked our boys Greg "(Z)IdrA" Fields, Chris "(P)HuK" Loranger, Geoff "(P)iNcontroL" Robinson, and Bryce "(Z)Keyboard to the Face, IdrA, and Machine" Bates, if they wanted to be a part of this glorious event. They all happily obliged after being told they had no choice."
That makes me lol'd. This will be awesome to watch, espically when you're a die hard EG fan.

lol yes it made me laugh "they all happily obliged after being told they had no choice" lmao. Should be fun to watch ^^.
If i wanted to get banned, I would say he would lose to ling bane wars with Machine and then six pool the protosses, but since I don't wanna get banned, I think HuK/IdrA top 2. I do really like this idea from EG.
I predict IdrA and Machine finally merge into the first Zerg Archon and dominating not just this, but the next 10 GSLs and being crowned bonjwa of the metagame.
But this is brilliant, I imagine a lot of fun stuff can come out of this, trash talk, bromance, epic strats, middle fingers, useful talents and spectacular ceremonies.

Prediction: Incontrol wins a coinflip PvP versus HuK and then rushes to fleet beacon for the Phoenix upgrade against both of the zergs. Incontrol 3-0. Machine beats Idra in a ZvZ similar to Nestea v DRG, then 6pools HuK and goes mass Muta against Incontrol. He loses to Incontrol but takes the rest 2-1. HuK builds pylons around all of Idras creep to prevent him from expanding. Idra GGs as soon as the first pylon goes down. HuK 1-2. Idra 0-3.
Incontrol then wins all 4 of the next games by doing a mothership/immortal rush and saying: "I don't give a shit about you."
How can you be crowned "The Most Evil Genius" when you only go up against half of your team? Seriously, you have two great terrans on the team with Puma and DeMuslim so why not at least add them in there as well? I can't really get hyped up for a 4 person tournament, especially one without any terrans in it
I don't understand why it's not the entire EG team. JYP and PuMa would definitely attract even more attention, not to mention adding to the skill pool.
This will be interesting considering the form that EG has been in lately. I look forward to some awesome games in a less pressured environment; if they can all relax maybe they can hit their true form
Still think that the advertisements coming from EG, with their Kingston line of videos and now these, are some of the least "HEY BUY OUR PRODUCT" style ads I've seen in a while. It's the main reason I'm totally okay not watching cable television anymore, and I'm glad EG find a way to sidestep that problem.
I really like this. It's a key fact that I think is easy to forget. It often feels like if something goes wrong you're immediately way behind. Nice to think of it in terms as simple as that. There's always going to be something the opponent does that we don't want him to do. But that doesn't mean the situation's hopeless.
I really hope for some epic good natured BM in these games, that'll be what I watch it for! Unfortunately the daily cups start too early for me (4PM PST a lot of people are gonna be working still) so I probably won't be one of the people with high numbers of points, but I'll be around to bet on the sundays with what I have...
I love that they're putting out more content with DeMusliM, he's such a likable guy. We gotta get one of these done with his game against NesTea from MLG Winter Arena once they release the replays!

Is it just me or when in full screen it just lagg ALOT ? I mean, I've a 100M connection (I can download at 25 mo/s), and well, at 720+p it can lagg, ok, but even at 480 there's alot of lagg :/
The only reason idra did that is because it was close positions with a gold on the map, he couldn'tve won an actual standard game because the map was bad. It was the wrong version of antiga

Skrillex isn't dubstep.

Man do protoss normally queue up that many probes? These past 2 games he has had 3 probes going at each nexus. That's 200 minerals doing nothing that would of allowed him to get his gates up faster.
Switched over to this after the Scan tourny and the first thing I see is Idra and Huk showing off their bad attitude by basicly saying they don't want to play this. These guys seriously don't care for their team at all, which is also shown by their games in team leagues (Idra not giving a shit and throwing games, Huk not even playing).

Huk doesn't play with lag, he always said that. Idra only GG's early when only his tournament performence is on the line, not his Team.
Damn good play from IdrA, really happy to see that. I was expecting HuK to just roll him. Guess I shouldn't be surprised that his muta play is so strong, considering how good he is with them in ZvT
IdrA impressed me, but Huk really played bad. If we would hear an intervew of idrA I would expect him to say something like: "well protoss is OP. Huk just threw every game by wasting a ton of units"
Not that it mattered, but was that the right map? The tournament page says NASL Metalopolis, which I believe has the golds replaced with standard patches?

HuK's MLG run was not that great. He got like 2 bye's. He did good though. I wasn't saying he wasn't. I was just referencing to the people saying Idra is slumping. Idra is improving heaves atm
edit: as an additional note, from interviews, videos, pics/etc. HuK does seem to miss liquid and not be as well put with SlayerS and EG members in the house as opposed to how he acted in oGsTL house. Idra is thriving at the house while HuK seems almost depressed some weeks.

It is pretty darn funny how you believe you have researched stuff when you say HuK misses Liquid and is not liking the SlayerS house, when he has been living in the oGs house for the past months. He is as much with the Liquid guys as before, and he always have had emotions.
And saying he didn't have that of a great MLG run when he placed 3rd when the player pool was the most stacked this year so far, regardless of opponents in his early rounds, is pretty funny as well.
So is Orb living with EG now? Or apart of the team or something?
he's staying at the Lair for a while, at least to cast this and EGMCSL or whatever it's called. don't think it's permanent, and he's not a member of the team.
On March 05 2012 07:57 GrimReefer wrote: why can't the players play this live? why are these being casted from vods?
much easier production-wise and logistically. if HuK and IdrA had played live, it would have been at like 5 AM in Korea, and with the potential of lag from the caster having to connect from NA.

I was was watching out of one eye, game 2 looked fairly even, and then its over. ><
the mutas were idle over the mineral line for like 10 seconds and one getting attacked by cannon and when incontrol eventually got to them they were gonna die and machine gg`d. They had even supply when it was over.
what i dont think this was rly good well incontrol did a nice attack but has been sloppy at some points and machine had 900 minerals banked and pushed instead of taking a macro hatch earlier and converting his minerals
Nope Orb, a drone will not beat a probe in a straight up 1v1 fight. The first to attack wins, because the regeneration rate for the drone will NOT amount to 6 or more HP during the fight (it will be around 4). Among other things.

No, a drone will win, even if it regens only 1 hp it means the probe would need to hit it once more in order to win the fight.

Dear god I hope you're kidding/trolling. Of course a drone will always beat a probe.
its good that machine weakened all of those probes with his mutas. Aside from sloppy micro though, hes done a good job expanding this game. I think if machine just made a solid broodlord infestor army, he would win.
Really this is the best example for the people complaining about Korean in foreign tournaments, this is exactly what you will get ( hi Col.Catz). Are you not entertain ?????
I know these are kind of show-matchy so the players aren't necessarily trying with all they've got, but this taldarim game has been close to some of the most atrociously bad starcraft 2 play i've seen in a while. Were the other games like this?

Does anyone know if the small invulnerability that Blizz added to units coming out of Vortex actually does something? It looked like the first archon shot actually just killed everything.
that was some of the worst micro I have ever seen machine do. Not to mention the unit composition. When I watch them practice it seems like hes learning so much, but seeing him play like this is disappointing.

It only works on brood lords because the spread out so slowly.

It does, but it doesn't really affect broodlords. Air units can stack, and since broodlords are so slow, they don't unstack quickly enough to avoid the splash from the archon.
I don't get it. Why don't Machine and Incontrol just copy builds from their teammates and study their replays. I can't speak for zerg but Incontrol has some of the most horrific openers.

i dunno, huk just doing variations on blink stalker timings was hardly what i would call a 'show'. idras lack of a desire to attack is the only thing that made half the games long. would of liked to see them vary it up a bit. the games had some high quality play from idra, but huk didnt seem bothered until his back was against the wall, then he seemed to step it up.

i dunno, huk just doing variations on blink stalker timings was hardly what i would call a 'show'. idras lack of a desire to attack is the only thing that made half the games long. would of liked to see them vary it up a bit. the games had some high quality play from idra, but huk didnt seem bothered until his back was against the wall, then he seemed to step it up.
Idra said a long time ago that the reason Huk has good PvZ is because he refuses to attack....
Edit: and those rocks on the gold should be dedicated to MKP.
Then again, I didn't know professional gamers take two months of christmas break and then - right afterwards - play showmatches that get broadcasted three months later although they were hyped as "live" games. I mean...what?

Someone puts out content to entertain, everyone jumps down their throat because its "Not what they expected"... That really makes someone want to create content for the community
Great games, super entertaining. I dislike how people call iNcontroL's style "bad" or whatever, but guys like TLO are called creative. I think it's really cool that iNcontroL pulls off a style like that (abusing hatchery openings, not being afraid to commit to cannons and airplay), and still hang in there with top players.
Anyways, enjoyed the shit out of the series. To all the haters, it's fucking free. You paid nothing and are entitled to whatever they give you. Enjoy the games, or don't watch them.
A big EG fan here but you call a spade a spade, that Incontrol vs. machine series wasn't exactly the high quality. Never the less I enjoyed the content.

It's EG. They are mainly putting content out to advertise.
I dont think the problem is the leangth of the break, but that you did the showmatch right after the big break for everybody... and not air it until now, without telling people that the replays are so old.
Of course people will complain because they compare these games that the games they saw on KSL (etc) last night.

People shouldn't complain when the entertainment is bad? wtf. Thats the whole point of providing entertainment, that the viewers like it. People expect a certain level of play when it comes to pros, and it obviously wasn't filled this time.
I dont know why you guys are so furious about these games, and how Inc took a break... They're not robots and dont practice 24 hours a day 365 days a year.
I personally enjoyed all the games and thought that while it may not have been the best play I've seen from these players, I'm content with getting to watch my favorite team duke it out among eachother, and be able to watch for FREE.
Just be happy with the fact that this is happening at all...

Obviously, with 12k people watching and tons of people in this thread commenting and praising the entertainment.[Sarcasm] Surprisingly enough, there are other people in the world that have an opinion different from yours.[sarcasm again] It's ok not to like something, it's not ok to claim everyone agrees with you nor is it ok to just bash people. Turn off the stream, get out of the thread. Don't come here to take a dump on the players.

How long are we going to keep pretend that people putting out content is some form of charity for the community?

I hear what your saying, but to play devil's advocate, taking 2 months off is suicide in sc2. If you're a top tier player like Mvp or Nestea then you can make an argument for it being beneficial. But an Incontrol tier player whose not top tier in North America taking 2 months off will take forever to catch back up.
Incontrol is fine though, he doesn't need to be a top tier player but a sc2 personality. I appreciate that Incontrol desires to be a top tier player but I don't think he has the time to really dedicate and make that a reality.
This post my come off negative, but basically what I'm trying to say is that Incontrol deserves the break and I don't see anything wrong with. BUT be realistic and don't expect him to be a top tier player any time soon.

I went home to ask ANna's family for permission to marry her / spend time with her for half of november / december.

2 months just seems ridiculous. People who work full-time don't get that much time off in a year. The amount your skill would deprecate over that period of time...

hey idiot, teachers get over 2 months off for summer, with breaks in between. theres nothing stupid about that.
and what makes you think that every job must be a 9-5 without any set vacation time?
your logic is so bad it makes me cringe. its the type that people use to have it look good on paper, but doesnt work in practice. taking a break can improve play by giving someone time to rest, and even increase their passion for the game. its like when shitty teachers drill students with too much hw, thus leading them to have decreased test scores. i could go on about other topics...

You don't seem to understand why people are so upset. You are in a position of absolute privilege. There are so many people who wish they could be in your position in your profession. There are not many people in this world who have the work ethic to put in the time required to make it as a progamer, but they do exist.
Whether or not it was two months or not is irrelevant at this point. When you say "well sorry, we just got back from our 2 month holiday", it comes across that you just take what you have for granted. It looks like you don't really give a shit. You've made it as a progamer, so who cares, right?
There are people who play this game in every inch of their spare time, trying to make it as a pro while supporting themselves or whatever. So if you're really shocked about the response to your initial post, it really shouldn't boggle you like it did.

because of dealings behind closed doors.. teams make content. Imagine a world where a team goes "hey we did this event but logistically we couldn't complete all the production/games in a timely fashion so it's a bit outdated and was played at a bad time for the players!"
Nobody does that.
Put your pitchforks down. People were being unusually fucking mean to me and Machine so I felt the need to explain what was going on. At the end of the day what I am supposed to do is ignore each and every one of you. Which fucking sucks. I am the guy trying to keep you people connected to progamers. Kinda like a..... Sports athlete.
Just kinda comes with the territory, always has.
i think inc. is a bit different from a lot of professional athletes, in that we have access to his entire life. the barrier is so little it might as well not be there. guys who play in NFL, NBA, NHL, we don't know what they're doing on their days off, or in the offseason. we don't know a damn thing about their personal lives. on the field, we know everything. but off the field, most of the contact is done through the press.
inc. has almost total transparency, which is something other athletes don't have. how would you feel if thousands of people knew what you were doing every day, when/where/how you proposed to your gf, etc.

If two months off was so terrible, the people that played non-stop would be able to beat them and your point would be validated. But they don't! So it isn't!
It's like a lot of people just suddenly discovered in this thread that the only legit careers in life aren't 9-5 full-time jobs with 10 days vacation time/year that you're encouraged to never use.
If that's what your parents told you, well they told you wrong.
There are pros and cons to every career in life. Being able to take a 1.5 month break is a perk of Incontrol's. Want the same benefit? Then be a pro-gamer yourself - if you could cut it.

It was Incontrol himself who made the point regarding an extended period off being responsible for what people were calling sub-par play.
It was clearly a mistake scheduling a showcase tournament for when EG's players would be at their absolute rustiest, and given that, it shouldn't be shocking to come to a thread where people are disappointed with the level of play.
Inc: "We were bad coz we just got off our 2-month vacation."
People: "You took a 2-month vacation? That's insane!"
Inc: "I deserve a 2-month vacation because I work hard."
I guess it's us who build the ROI on Inc, though. If we didn't pay so much attention to them, they wouldn't have such sweet jobs. Something to think about.

These are the same kind of people that get mad about cheese. ie. they have no understanding of the competitive mindset. As Sirlin would put it, they are scrubs.
Incontrol and TotalBiscuit are both so awesome. Wish there weren't so many assholes to heckle them for no reason in between jerk off sessions on the internet. You two handsome folks should go take a bath and ignore this thread for the next... three or four decades. Not much is going to come of arguing with the delusional and misguided.
Hey inc, i know its tough to read through these comments, but remember that its only because people care about you guys.
To be honest, the games with you and Machine were shit - you've been so kind to tell us why, but obviously people couldnt really know that, so fair deal. I hope that EG will do these live some day, with one week from your Korean division, next week America or something ike that. For something that has been marketed this agressively by EG, i think its fair enough that people are letting your organization know that 3 months old replays with games from the players straight out of a 2 month break and then hyped and marketed is a pisstake..

They aren't 3 months old.
Incontrol and Machine played 6 weeks ago, IdrA and Huk played 2 and 1/2 weeks ago.

Listen you stupid ass. I put more work into this game and this community at large than ANY of the "people who play with every spare moment they have." Ok? So if at the end of the year I take a 1.5 month break to see my family, ask my gf's family for her hand in marriage and cool down after 12 hour work days 7 days a week for the other 10.5 months then SO FUCKING BE IT.
I am SICK and tired of dumb asses coming in and judging me and making it seem like I don't fucking appreciate everything I have. God damn, GO AWAY
I have nothing against you taking 2 months off but my question is why even hype this showmatch, if you or machine weren't going to prepare for it?
because of dealings behind closed doors.. teams make content.
Making it really fucking hard to justify that.
You know what pisses people off? Saying that you practise hard after playing bad than playing bad again saying the same thing and so on...nobody will have a problem if you just say "hey im doing work for the team i dont have much time for practise" but instead we get all this shallow bullshit.

On March 05 2012 07:57 GrimReefer wrote: why can't the players play this live? why are these being casted from vods?
much easier production-wise and logistically. if HuK and IdrA had played live, it would have been at like 5 AM in Korea, and with the potential of lag from the caster having to connect from NA.
you mean when they played these games 2 months ago?
this is another example of organizations trying to pass off old shitty content as something fresh and new. this is exactly why i'm tired of being presented with casted replays being passed off as live competition.

The thread was purely a discussion of the level of play until one of said players made it personal in defence of their play. I don't want to live in a weird dystopia where i can't call out a player on a professional level without fearing personal insults or a banhammer to the skull.
Super good point. If the games are bad, we're gonna laugh. I guess it's more hilarious when a player takes that personally, but you're absolutely right that we as fans are talking about what we should be talking about.

I trust you aren't that well versed in the world of sports. Every fan of every team gets pissed at their team. But I supposed the entire sporting world is just "trolls" anyway. Such a stupid way to wave off all forms of critisism.
Edit: Incontrol, pls relax. Don't let these guys get to you. You're ready for marriage, you shouldn't be letting stuff like this, unjustified or not, elicit a reaction.
Entertainment none the less with the chat in game. I don't see why people give inControl such a hard time. everyone knows hes not a top caliber player, hes just a mediocre player but hes huge publicity for EG, thats what people need to know. And he needs to know it too apparently.

Ok, listen, I think both incontrol and machine played poorly. I think they are both better than what they showed today, and I am a bit upset they are not improving as much as I want them to. I also think having your teammates talk to you while you are playing in practice is starting to become a bad habit for the EG players. And lastly, I think its silly to have these games casted from replays 2 months old, especially since geoff himself criticized a tournament for lacking in aspects a few days ago.
But if you think the things being said to incontrol after he posted for the first time in this thread fall under the category of criticism, and do not go into the field of straight up bad manner, you are either a liar or a troll yourself. There should be no doubt that incontrol gets more love than what his skill warrants, but there should also be no doubt that he gets a ton more hate than he deserves.

this is my point, the thread was entirely on a professional level up until incontrol's post. if you think a player's game is trash, you can sure as shit call them on it. that's what this board is here for. it was him who opened the floodgates by demanding that people curb their ire because of personal reasons which he brought to the table, inevitably derailing the thread - bringing said factors under the microscope for scrutiny.
if you play bad and people call you on it, take it on the chin. prove them wrong next time. don't abuse your position of priviledge on this board and don't start making personal excuses if you don't want people to call said excuses into question.

I wonder how much time off, if any, players of the calibre of DRG and MMA took over the holidays. Because I'm pretty sure it wasn't 2 months. Then again they're actually professionals who take their job seriously, whereas Incontrol is a punchline. The thought that EG players get a larger salary than the majority of Code S players out there is nauseating.

Yes it was. People said the incontrol - machine game was really bad. Incontrol gave an explanation, and, without mincing words, an exceptionally ridiculous one, and he was called out on it.

IdrA and Huks games are definitely more recent then they are old. Don't want to spoil the games but if you watch the vods and their in-game chatter, its pretty obvious.
The incontrol and Machine games are apparently really old. Which IMO, is extremely surprising. They live together and they train together all the time, hard to believe that the only time slot for them to play the series was 3 months ago. Obviously there's a good chunk of information that we don't know as viewers (IE. why were they played so long ago? Why not play them more recent or even live?), but never the less, it reflects badly on EG or any organization for that matter when you put out content that is 3 months old.
The koreans gaming houses work because they have coaches to also help the stay on track, you get out of this game what you put into it, the koreans don't play warhammer or play other games with team members. I mean sure they cool down and relax like watching their shows as seen in trimasters video.
Some people just don't have it, no need to complain about it, you could tell from all his tourney performances that it was gonna be no diff. People jus get upset that he has optimal gaming conditions down to the point his soon to be wife lives with him and he's being paid to do it andstill can't progress, that's what angers people, they feel they should be seeing higher quality but should just learn to expect it. But understand inc point of view also. It can be frustrating that people who go to school full time or work full time and play are on another level.
What I'm trying to say is we need to just understand by now and take it for what it is, we know what were getting, I. Just came to accept it

Idiotic comparison. Incontrol is no where near DRG or MMA's level and he never will be. You can literally compare any mid-tier player and a sc2 superstar and you would get the same effect.
EG players like IdrA or Huk get larger salaries because they give their teams more exposure and make more money for their teams. Makes perfect sense.
I dunno why people are surprised that the match wasn't particularly great when incontrol is on page 9 of the tlpd surrounded by such well known players as seala and russano and machine is somehow even lower (p 12/15)...
Lol games are three months old, and no fucks shall be given about this tournament. Is it really that hard to host a live tournament where 3 of the players live in the same house, and the caster also lives in that house.......

Except mid-tier players usually don't have a team house and the salary that Incontrol and Machine have. If they're terrible, always going to be terrible, and don't give a damn about being anything other than terrible then surely they should be fired and someone who actually gives a shit should be given the opportunity to take advantage of the huge amounts of resources that EG are currently squandering.
Western players will never be at the level of top Koreans until they match their work ethic, and Incontrol is setting a pretty piss poor example right now.

You can do the same thing with mid-tier Koreans who live in team houses. There is a reason the same players are ALWAYS top 8-16 and some players NEVER make to code A/get past code A.
The entire IM team is a great example of this. They have Nestea, Mvp as their unanimous superstars. And beyond Losira and Seed, who else do they have?
And get this through your thick head, Incontrol generates plenty of traffic for EG and he EASILY justifies whatever they are paying him. You can hate his results or his personality but you would be a damn fool to deny his impact on the sc2 scene.

Hope you've enjoyed your stay here at TL.
Also, results aren't the only thing that matters. Yes, results are a huge part, but having commercial appeal, a fan base, etc. are just as important if not more important in terms of legitimizing eSports. In an existing fan base, results will be one of the hugest factors, but as it stands we need charismatic and appealing people to bring in strangers to the "sport."

ROFL no
We are not at a point in time where results are the only thing that matters. Geoff provides an incredible ROI for EG because he knows what he is doing. Of all the teams that Intel sponsors, of all the players they sponsor, who did Intel send on eSports behalf? Incontrol. Why? Because he can get the message across. Not many players can do that. So many players just fall flat on their face in that regard.
Incontrol has a huge impact on the scene and if you can't see why that matters, you are short sighted.

Totally agree, Incontrol is constantly out there in the starcraft 2 scene, Lots of players are really good but you cant really market them very well , even though they bring results. I also think a lot of people dont understand from the sounds of how much these players practice and put time in growing the scene they have to cut out a lot of other stuff in there life. If people like incontrol or who ever needs to take time off to do some life stuff why hate on them? The games werent horrible , in fact still better than most of the people who watched them soooo if you dont like watching it there were several other streams that were available to watch.
i'm surprised. incontrol continues to say whatever the fuck he wants, calls people idiots, dumbasses and gets nothing for it while others get warnings/bans. wtf seriously?

User was warned for this post
The only way your second point is true is if there was no money in sc2. Meaning no prize pool in tournaments, no salary from teams, no travel stipends from tournament organizers etc. Only then, would sc2 really be purely about results.
But that's not the reality of the situation because SC2 is a business first. Players who are trying to make a living by being a professional gamer cannot rely purely on results, or tournament winnings. Prize money is too inconsistent and unstable to justify spending 10+ hours a day/7 days a week training.

...and there are always a lot of issues and delays potentially there when casting live instead of off replays (bet you would berate them for delays if IdrA was taking a piss or something; or if they got BNet-fucked)

Western players will never be at the level of top Koreans until they match their work ethic, and Incontrol is setting a pretty piss poor example right now.
And Korean SC2 teams will never have the resources or funds that EG has until their players get off their asses and start doing as much work as InControl does.
tbh tho the fact that it's not live is disappointing.. i realize it's tough to schedule when people are all over the case, but i figured that for this one time special event for team eg all these players would make themselves available... i actually assumed it was live, i think the same assumption was made by a lot of people, and a lot of those people are probably disappointed as well.. i even saw incontrol streaming while the team eg event was live and figured it was him playing his sets, however i didn't check the stream to see.. i hope he wasn't just streaming ladder or something...
tldr: thought it was live, wasn't, much less good.

you dont know what incontrol earns, what part of that is for playing and what part is for hiis work with the sponsors, and pretty much every korean team has a house where their b teamers practice even if they are just punching bags for a teamers.
you can make comments about other stuff all you want but really cant say someone is overpaid if we dont know how much they make.

its a nice ideal but at the end of the day, money is what pays for these leagues and these players. and sponsors dont care about winning they care about exposure. does playing more games by winning earlier rounds help exposure? sure. but im pretty sure hosting a weekly podcast with 10k+ viewers is actually more important to them.
id love for the best players to get the most money, but thats just not how it is.

IdrA and HuK talked about the match against Alive which is relatively recent (I think 3 weeks?). Additionally, it seemed like HuK/IdrA hadn't played against anyone else from their chit-chat so I don't think all the games are this old.
idra never said he hadnt played anyone, only huk. it kinda implied idra had played someone. not suprising since idra has iem this week, probably wanted to do the showmatches for next week so he could rest after iem.

Can't speak for Machine but Incontrol will be around for along time since hes a marketable personality... he should have quit playing way back when Nazgul beat him in the HDH but hey hes a competitor and will probably continue to try and perform better but in the end hes the type of person EGs sponsors want similar to Catz on Complexity.
The community can't get made at him they made him.

Well I briefly skimmed the thread and I don't know what half of your guy's problem is. Who cares if the games were recorded 2 months ago, yesterday, or last week, the content is still new and hasn't been released to the public yet. I know I enjoyed the games and casting and will be looking forward to the new games coming out soon.
And unfortunately for Geoff and the other EG members, since they're one of the few NA professional teams they attract all sorts of attention, good and bad. And because of this people will often forget that behind the player is a person who has other hobbies, relationships, and activities outside of their job and many people just can't accept that.
But anyways I'm sure EG members will never see this message but I just hope they know that for every whiner and hater there are 10 loyal fans behind them (me being one of them) that appreciate their work and content they continually release.
Greg needed a big win because he was quickly fading in the rankings and the fan base seemed to be doubting his ability to bounce back. I think EG's strategy is brilliant, fake a tournament and have him win in "impressive" fashion so the casual fan thinks he has his "groove" back. Factor in the sponsor and advertisement revenue from the hype videos and the stream, the brand promotion and the creation of this Greg is back story and I think you have a very successful experiment.
The only thing I change is Geoff coming into the LR thread brewing up drama, making excuses, name calling fans and playing the victim when he is in such a privileged position. Until he is able to to start producing some wins, and not piggy backing off of his team mates, I think Geoff should be a bit less vocal about his incredible dedication and hard work until he has some results to match the talk. I really do hope one day Geoffs actions will speak louder than his words, but I am very skeptical of that prospect ever becoming a reality.

I went home to ask ANna's family for permission to marry her / spend time with her for half of november / december.
Yep I have a great job that allows me to do that.
Fuck the people that don't care about us as people and just want to hate.
2 months just seems ridiculous. People who work full-time don't get that much time off in a year. The amount your skill would deprecate over that period of time...
hey idiot, teachers get over 2 months off for summer, with breaks in between. theres nothing stupid about that.
and what makes you think that every job must be a 9-5 without any set vacation time?
your logic is so bad it makes me cringe. pathetic.
I said most full-time jobs. Teachers are a blatantly obvious exception because they mainly only work when school is in. At what point did I ever reference them? I didn't mean to say it as an absolute, but nevertheless, it doesn't change my point.
If my logic is bad, I don't know what to call yours
actually, it does. because my point is that there are many varying proffessions. this especially applies to relating progamers to other jobs. you never stated this in your post. "people who work full-time dont get that much time off in a year." on top of this, youre saying its ridiculous that he cant have over a month of time off, as if hes wasting his position and falling behind in skill. so please try asking some pros (like incontrol) on whether or not other progamers take that kind of time off...including koreans.... see what i am saying? -_o
and thank you for not bringing up my other point. it further solidifies my judgement on your thought processing abilities~

That amount of passive-aggressiveness seems dangerous. I don't think anyone here is going to overvalue an IdrA win in an team-only tournament and you shouldn't be concerned with Geoff's actions.

So instead of just being happy that EG has decided to give us more content to watch on top of allowing Orb (an amazing underrated caster) to get some more exposure, people complain about when the games are played, the strategies being used, yada yada. It's a fun in-house tournament, with fun BM in chat, good casting, and just a laid back atmosphere. Relax and enjoy the games!
I really enjoyed watching the Incontroll Vs Machine games, they where so much fun I was actually laughing. The really bad jokes on the streamchat made it even more enjoyable. Other then that Ive gotta say that its to bad Orb didnt have time to set his stuff up, the cast really sufferd from poor sound. Not having an observer also kinda hurt since Orb did miss a few things which is understandable since he was casting.

If two months off was so terrible, the people that played non-stop would be able to beat them and your point would be validated. But they don't! So it isn't!

Frankly it's starting to get incredibly frustrating reading and hearing incontrol constantly remind us how much he gives to the community and how he only gets hate in return. It sucks that it's getting this way because he's actually a smart, funny guy; but the fact remains the community supports his lifestyle 100%. There are guys out there who are more talented and grinding way harder that are getting no fan fare whatsoever and sure as shit no bank because they're not "chosen" by the community. This goes for players/casters/organizers/whatever else. It's really hard to watch this unfold and I hope incontrol is careful with these rants because if he starts to lose his fanbase its lights out for him. It's not like he's idra or HuK and if he pisses off the community he can just go win an MLG and smooth it all out.
As far as the 3 month delay goes: that seems... ridiculous. I mean I know there are tournaments to prepare for but I find it shocking that you couldn't rip an hour out of your schedule to play a few games against a team mate (Which as we know from streams happens all the time anyway). You could make the case that EG just wanted to hand pick some practise games to make sure the sets were exciting and based on quality/community reaction I'm pretty confident that's not the case either. Feels like they're feeding us day old donuts the week after an epic MLG and GSL code S finals. Some seriously odd timing but I really give no shits about this whole thing so in the grand scheme producing something SHOULD be better than not putting out anything... I guess.

Of course not. That said, they're not immune to seeing him lash out and get warned on TL. I mean a lot of people will understand what he's going through but if 1/100 fans don't like when he does this kinda stuff that viewership will slowly start to dwindle.

The delay was at most 8 weeks and most were played 2-3 weeks ago. The 3month old delay was a misunderstanding and is inaccurate.

Inc and Machine live in the NA-Gaminghouse, right? Huk and Idra live in the Slayers-House, right?
What is so hard about having them play against each other that justifies delays of 2 months.. Or 2-3 Weeks? I imagine they play against each other quite often anyway and even if not, it should be very easy to have them play against each other?

The funny thing is that IdrA and HuKs game was definitely played on KR since they were using their KR accounts (Cale and LiquidHuK) so theres no real reason these games had to be so old. Its not like it was the last chance all 4 of them were on one server.

No, HuK lives in the oGs house, and has been doing that for some time.
Ok, but still.. Both are in Korea.. How is it hard to set up a game between them and cast it?

i think inc. is a bit different from a lot of professional athletes, in that we have access to his entire life. the barrier is so little it might as well not be there. guys who play in NFL, NBA, NHL, we don't know what they're doing on their days off, or in the offseason. we don't know a damn thing about their personal lives. on the field, we know everything. but off the field, most of the contact is done through the press.
inc. has almost total transparency, which is something other athletes don't have. how would you feel if thousands of people knew what you were doing every day, when/where/how you proposed to your gf, etc.

What a horrible post. You think Incontrol's private life is more public than Tom Brady or Kobe Bryant (or any pro athlete worth noting)? EL OH EL. Give your head a long, firm shake.
I guess.
Agree. Some way Incontrol thinks that he is one of the only ones who is fully devoted to sc2. What a bunch of BS. There are a lot of players out there who watches alot of stuff, plays a shitton of games, and wouldn't dare to take a twomonth break ever. They may not be the absolute best (like top 10 foreigners), but they are still better than Incontrol, and a lot of them probably dream of becomming a progamer.
The only reason Incontrol is a progamer today is because of his personality. I dont have any problem with this, however I have a problem with him justifying playing bad because of a break, that a lot of other players wouldn't take, and then justiying the break by saing he is much more involved in sc2. The fact is that can take these breaks, play shit, practice less, use time on forums on (pointless) topics, because it doesn't matter how good/bad he is. He gets paid because of his personality, not because of his skill.

Just leave the guy alone. I used to write a lot of mean things to incontrol through twitter/4chan/reddit and I won't say I regret EVERYTHING but it is going a little to far. I don't like a lot of aspects of Incontrol's personality but at least he tries the hardest in everything he does. Just watch the last episode of SotG and you'll see that without him this "show" would be a joke. I also watched him commenting hero's play live on his stream and it was quite awesome. I feel like the Starcraft community would miss a lot without him.

That's correct. These were played right before the Winter Arena, Idra flew back to Korea, grabbed his things, and flew to Germany. He did not play any games in Korea (on his Korean account at least) after flying to NY. So there really wasn't a period in between to play these games.

Incontrol is a public person. He has lots of eyes on him every day. It's kinda stupid to not expect to be judged and it's not like people are trying to get their nose into his intimate life. They just process the information about him available on the internet and express their opinions.

Why is everyone always a dick to Incontrol in everything he is in? I don't understand. He may not be the best player in the world, but that doesn't make him less hard working / a bad person. He may not put up results in tournaments but neither does Nony or Jinro (anymore). And they get pure community love. No offense to them I love them both too.

The pot calling the kettle black, here. You're being equally antagonizing: "Did you even read the posts you were quoting?" None of this drama would have happened if people were just a little nicer, you know, like normal people in the real world. You don't see people in real life conversations say the stuff you guys are writing to each other.

Of course there a bunch of people on the internet who love to hide behind anonymity and attack public figures, but we can't just allow that. Progamers take huge risks by becoming progamers by putting careers and education on hold. Incontrol may not be the best progamer out there, but we certainly should not make personal attacks on him.
People are angry about him taking 2 months off, but that is ultimately his decision. I felt that he could have dealt with the critics better, but then again I am not in a position that he is in.

Also I think it would be entertaining to see incontrol do a stream where he challenges people in the chat in Bo3s to all the people in this thread that claim, "I could beat incuntrol he sux l0l". If you haven't made grandmaster you wouldn't have a chance against him sorry to say.
And i'm not even an incontrol fan :S.
I don't want to comment on the iNcontroL stuff, but 'no grandmaster' can beat a grandmaster player is absolute bullshit. Every high masters player has a good shot at taking out a grandmaster player any day.

Incontrol is a public person. He has lots of eyes on him every day. It's kinda stupid to not expect to be judged and it's not like people are trying to get their nose into his intimate life. They just process the information about him available on the internet and express their opinions.
If he can't deal with it he should stop appearing everywhere.
And this is available for every progamer out there that complains about the community commenting about what they do.
Who says he can't deal with it? Seems to me it's just the fanboys that can't.

Well yeah, like I said, I'm not a fanboy, just defending him because I didn't want him to be lumped together with what the fanboys were saying, but in this case he should be.
The thing that I'm most curious is how fast the hate would clear up if iNcontrol just stopped trying to be a player. Do you think people give a shit if Day9 or MrBitter or DjWheat or even Artosis play a BAD game (names chosen from the "personality" people of SC2, I know at least DjWheat is LOL bad). Or if those guys are in a horrible slump? Of course not. The problem remains that iNcontrol wants (gets) the exposure of all the big names in commentary and wants to be an elite player as well.
Fact of the matter is the hate comes from how he plays the game, not how he talks about it. And his value in the scene comes from how he talks about the game, not how he plays it. It's like impossible to tell someone to give up on their dream (pretty obviousy he doesn't wanna be a full time caster/analyst or he already would be a very good one). But if he ever gives up his attempt at being a progamer the hate he's getting will fade so fast.
Maybe he's doing it on purpose though. The most polarizing dude on his planet (AKA idra) is his team mate so any angst that incontrol deflects is probably gonna land on idra lololol. Good team guy.

i think the hardest part of your job is that thousands of people sit down and analyze every part of your life.
i bet if a thousand people sat down and scrutinized the people who criticize, they would get some empathy real quick.
Kinda like a..... Sports athlete.
Just kinda comes with the territory, always has.
i think inc. is a bit different from a lot of professional athletes, in that we have access to his entire life. the barrier is so little it might as well not be there. guys who play in NFL, NBA, NHL, we don't know what they're doing on their days off, or in the offseason. we don't know a damn thing about their personal lives. on the field, we know everything. but off the field, most of the contact is done through the press.
inc. has almost total transparency, which is something other athletes don't have. how would you feel if thousands of people knew what you were doing every day, when/where/how you proposed to your gf, etc.
food for thought
What a horrible post. You think Incontrol's private life is more public than Tom Brady or Kobe Bryant (or any pro athlete worth noting)? EL OH EL. Give your head a long, firm shake.
Incontrol's fan base aren't the ones sitting here trolling him
disagreeing and arguing with someone isnt trolling. i hate how no one uses the word correctly.
Except for the fact that if you read some of these posts it is clearly trolling for many of them. And do the rest really need to make comments all the time? You don't see it done on nearly the same level for other players like Nony etc.

Your point wasnt just that theres other players that are better than him, it was that theres other people who feel like they deserve his spot, that he is "privileged", implying that they might deserve it more than him. the other part of my post was more of a rant about people in this thread (and outside of this thread) in general, not directly directed at you, although I can see how it might look like that.
Tomorrow's matches will begin at 3:00pm PST and will be casted by none other than Marcus "djWHEAT" Graham! Stream will be on http://www.twitch.tv/OneMoreGameTV
How exactly are people already having 337 coins after a whole 2 matches? If you guessed perfectly on both of them you still shouldn't be more than 185 at the most?
Lack of scouting. Massively supply blocked due to overlords being killed. About to lose almost all queens. Probably would've lost at least his natural. Yeah, that was over.
Incontrol's dealing with the 6 lings in his base on shattered was the worst I've seen from any pro.. 12 probes vs 36 drones (also he was floating 400 minerals, not building probes the whole time). You don't deal with that by just chasing the lings as they run around with 10 probes..

Love you Incontrol. Just giving Idra an inch, making him think he can take it, and then shoving all that is good and great about protoss, cannons, Void Rays and DTs deep into his throat until you win all over his face :D
Void rays, cannons, dts, how boring. Game 1 was the only half decent game, but it was soo one sided. Idra droned half way through the zealot void ray pressure and still lost virtually nothing.

iNcontrol chose a terrible map to do that pressure on. because u have to go through the rocks to get your zealots into the third (or just walk all the way around) you waste so much time, and then he didn't even focus the hatch, he tried to fight roaches, spores, and queens......
To be honest, does anyone really expect iNcontrol to take games off of Idra with any sort of consistency?
It's a little weird that all the games are played on Korea. It favors IdrA a lot, and he certainly doesn't need that. I'd rather see split games on each servers. IdrA hates playing KR<>NA though, so maybe he requested it. HuK only plays IdrA in this "tournament" probably for that reason. He is even more notorious than IdrA for hating cross-server play.
These 2 players, along with lzgamer are horrible (for progamers). I don't know why EG keeps em around, my only guess is incontrol does other stuff for EG and machine/lzgamer must play for free or something.
This isn't me being a dick either, I'm objectively saying something that can easily be determined as a fact.
I have always felt that Machine could be a really good player. Great personality and takes practice very seriously, but he just can't get over the hump for some reason. I hope he breaks out this year.
G1: Antiga (forced cross). InControl opens FFE, IdrA goes for standard double expand (after clearing pylons). InControl does a Voidray/Zealot timing and attacks the third, but IdrA crushes the Zealots with Roaches. IdrA loses a couple Spores and a few Queens to the Voids before pushing them away, but was basically macroing through everything and gets a huge supply and income lead. IdrA techs to Mutas, and basically has a 90 supply lead all game long.
G2: Shattered, cross spawn. FFE opening again, but IdrA slips 6 lings and kills a few probes, and chews up a lot of mining time. InControl tries to respond with 4 Zealots (off of double gate), but it gets cleaned up without problems. IdrA goes Ling/Infestors, InControl tries a Stalker/Sentry push, but is smashed by a larger army.
G3: Daybreak. Same openings. InControl sneaks a pylon at IdrA's third, and then double cannons to take down the expo. Cuts probes for a Double Stargate opening, and hits with 6 Voidrays at ~10 minutes. IdrA doesn't scout it, and quits when he loses the Spores and Queens at natural.
G4: Dualsight. FFE and triple expand again. InControl does a push on the third, but gets pushed back by a much stronger army. Techs to DTs, and cleans up the third and gets the Roach Warren (spores are at natural and main). IdrA builds a Ling/Roach/Muta army and beats InControl's Stalker/Sentry/DT army.

same, can someone please do a write up of any kind?
G1: Idra holds Incontrol's void ray/zealot push and finishes him with mutas. G2: Idra gets 5 lings into Incontrol's main in the early game and harasses him forever... Incontrol's build is completely messed up and a weak late push gets completely destroyed by Idra. G3: Incontrol cannons Idra's 3rd and masses 6 void rays on 2 bases, unscouted voids kill most queens, Idra leaves the game. G4: Incontrol masses DTs on 2 bases, but does only little damage, a following gate push gets destroyed.

Every team has B-teamers. The only reason EG's get shit is because they do a ton of community work.
- Idra opens up 14p and goes into 3 hatch against incontrol's FFE. - incontrol gets a 6 min SG and fast +1, aims to do a zealot VR timing on Idra's third - idra gets an earlier warren, and defends his third with roach/queen/spore, but incontrol was quite indecisive on whether he wanted to kill the third or fight idras units. he should have targeted the third (imo) - idra takes almost no damage and incontrol is forced to back away - idra gets lair, techs to mutas, and rolls incontrols pitifully small stalker/immortal army with lots of mutas, roaches, and banelings. - incontrol ggs
(Shattered Temple) - It seems that Idra snuck 6 lings into incontrol's main early on in the game, and incontrol responded horribly losing a bunch of probes and macro slipping by floating 500 mins. - ended up 36 drones to 12 probes - idra then did an infestor timing? i think and easily beat incontrol
again, apologies if anythings wrong, didnt watch this game fully
- Again, FFE vs 3 hatch - Incontrol sneaks a probe behind idras third, and cannons it - The cannons time perfectly with the hatch finishing, and idra is forced to run drones away while taking the base to the right of his main at his third - inc realizing idra is stuck on 2 base goes 2 SG, and moves out with 6 VRs - idra does not have enough queens/spores to stall for hydras and leaves without gging
- 3 hatch vs FFE - no early pressure, inc gets a pylon near idras third but no cannons - incontrol goes 8 gate, but then decides not to go all in and goes DTs..? - incontrols 8 gate is severely weakened by twilight council tech + dark shrine tech, and he retreats after severe losses - incontrol saves up and warps in 5 DTs which kill a hatchery, but idra is already so far ahead and defends the DTs well - idra techs to mutas and crushes inc with mutas and tons of roaches - inc ggs, idra wins 3-1

If you were being objective, the language you are using is terrible. "Horrible" has a lot of connotation to anybody. And coming to a conclusion as ridiculous as you did, is not only not objective, it actually throws aggressively your own thoughts and opinions into the matter. Especially the "or something" obviously is indicative of that.

hmm game 1 on antiga early void rays fail ends up 5 base for idra vs 2 base. idra wins game 2 6 on shattered 6 lings get in incontrols base and he chases them with 10 probes for about 2 minutes while idra mass drones, then later on moves out with 6 sentries and 2 stalkers vs mass ling infestor.. (idra wins ofc) game 3 inc cannons idras third then goes double stargate and idra leaves game 4 incontrol goes 8 gates, but doesnt really use them, then goes dts and it just goes downhill and idra wins

So basically Idra wins all the games he wasn't canon rushed on :/.
When machine was hitting idra's 3rd with roaches he needed to keep going into the natural (and main). do damage, keep the mutalisks at home. Doesn't matter if you lose the roaches. Even if you don't know what he has, send a few guys to look before overcommitting.
DJwheat disappoints me. I used to like his casting, or at least I could tolerate it. Now, he makes about 2 mistakes/minute; critical, confusing mistakes. For example, using "He's going to ..." (without specifying for whom, why, or how "it" is bad, along with simple mistakes like calling the infestation pit a hydra den and saying mutas "chipped away" at the hydra den (while killing it in 6 short volleys.)

I am no longer going to watch DJwheat cast.
He (like basically all casters) just needs an analytical guy to partner with or at the very least another play by play to make jokes/chat with.

Lzgamer probably has banked credit from being in EG the longest from BW days. He's good for that atleast. And he doesn't live in the team house, so less expenses paid for him.
Machine is marketable as fuck, and has a pretty good fanbase because he streams so much, a bit of a cult favorite. He's a very likable character who wont mind being thrown out for team leagues against far better players when HuK doesn't want to play cross. He's great for commercials as well. He's an asset to the sponsors, and thus EG then.
Incontrol is easily one of the biggest names in the game as an ambassador for both the team, his numerous podcasts on SOTG, ITG, etc. He's well worth the money.
All in all, they all have valid reasons to be there.`

I am no longer going to watch DJwheat cast.
i felt the opposite to be honest. i saw the mistakes and the stuff he was saying wrong or misspeaking, but i found it endearing. rather than being a super tryhard thing he was just chatting away about the game like a friend. suited the feel of the whole thing.
Thanks for the summary. Wasn't too compelled to watch the games today but all my predictions were correct for the beyond gaming most evil genius betting system!
to pick up on the 2 months break argument: i remember nowitzki saying that he still went to the court doing shots like every day in off season, even if he was not in the mood. i also remember boxer in some show were he said that after 1 week without playing it felt weird to him. 1 week was actually something big for him.
i think 2 months without any playing is quite sick. and it also makes sense now that idra is so bad since the new year.

IdrA wasn't on a 2 month break. He went to Korea right after Dreamhack Winter. There he stayed at the Slayers house to train. Players like CoCa have tweeted how hard Greg was practicing in Korea. Because high number of tournaments at towards the end of 2011 and all the traveling he had to do, he did admit that he wasn't getting as much practice in as he wanted. But lets face it, when you travel that much and play in that many tournaments, its unreasonable to expect someone to get their full practice in. Its actually pretty remarkable that his run at the end of 2011 was so positive.
Comparing sc2 to basketball isn't a fair comparison either. A lot of players take long breaks during the offseason and there are so many different ways to work on your game (film, cardio, weight lifting, boxing (Kobe does this)). Nowitzki is a special case as well, hes one of the best players to ever play the game. His work ethic and dedication is what makes him a superstar and a MVP compared to the rest of NBA. There is a reason why some players will always at the top: Kobe, Dirk, Lebron, Wade, Rose and why the majority of players will never reach that level. Can't hold every player to the standard of a MVP like Dirk or a superstar like Boxer.

He specifically said during the cast that he hadn't gotten any rest in the last five days, give the guy a break. He is an excellent CASTER and he deserves respect.

He (like basically all casters) just needs an analytical guy to partner with or at the very least another play by play to make jokes/chat with.
DJWheat is great in the right partnership.
Pretty much all casters are boring solo.
I highly prefer casters who are actually good (GM) at the game, rather than plat guys who just talk fast.
They got Wheat casting :O YAY, i always thought Wheat should be EGs caster! Plus he is the most under rated caster in the scene imo! He is awesome! Thanks EG
1 slight thing, there is no easy access to the "table" for results of the round robin stage thus far xD Any chance of making a Liquipedia entry or even getting a league table updated on the website.

All in all, they all have valid reasons to be there.`
Machine had some decent results in 2011. People forget he spent almost the entire year in MLG Pool Play which is solid exposure.
yea where his results were roughly equal to TLO and Haypro nearly every single tournament, getting top 20 almost everytime even after the koreans came, and he got much better rankings then Nony - but shit happens unfortunately and players willl be hated on no matter what
does anyone know the idra vs machine series for yesterday? they're really slow at updating the site + Show Spoiler +
i bet on idra > incontrol and idra > machine and havent received any coins yet i want my sensei mouse :p

it would be good to have it in the OP somehow, but im not bothered

For stuff like this event for it's not really going to be exciting but you're just watching to see good games then analysis is better.

If you watch Machine in their practice sessions, he just isn't very good. I enjoy watching him play and root for him since he is a really nice guy, but that doesn't change the fact that the teamhouse hasn't really done anything to improve the skill of these guys.
Demuslim is like a level above everyone of them in both understanding and mechanical skill, yet even he struggles to get any results these days. The competition is just getting harder and harder, and no matter how many times Incontrol claims that they are practicing really hard over there, I just dont see it in their play at all. I think there just isn't enough pressure/motivation for them to become top level players any more.
No one should be arguing that these are their best players. Neither JYP nor Puma are playing so we should be pretty clear on that. The focus here is pretty obviously on their North American players, for whatever reasons they have, and that would evidently exclude Demuslim as well. Perhaps that reason is exposure. They are an American organization and maybe they want to promote that focus in this way.

Incontrol's stream where he, Demuslim, Machine and then a random assortment of non EG pro's (usually Goswer, Spades) play customs is my most watched stream by far so I know exactly what you're talking about.
I agree that Machine's play doesn't impress me when I watch that but the fact that I and many other watch it is in of itself a reason why Machine is worth keeping around.
A lot of people seem to think ESports is about winning, it's not. It's about sponsor representation, or basically ROI. Incontrol streaming to 2-3k people every single day of the year with his sponsors logos right there on the screen 100% of the time (not to mention SOTG, ITG etc..) is worth more and makes him a more valuable player than random foreigner like Happy, Slivko, Titan, Nightend, Feast where most casual/semi casual fans have a hard time remembering exacting which team they play on, nevermind which sponsors those guys have, even if they are objectively better players.
I'm sure we all agree that in an ideal world it would be like football where an Iniesta who keeps himself out of the public eye and is quietly the 3rd/4th best player in the world is worth infinitely more money than a Balotelli who has less skill but is always in the public eye.
But it's not like that, and Machine is a guy where everyone who frequents this website knows his face, they know his voice, his race, his team, his playstyle, what tournaments he plays in and even his teams sponsors. That right there is ROI and is what makes Machine valuable to a team. Regardless of how good he is at the game.

Machine has improved since joining the team house. He qualified for IPL3, and was really steady at all the MLGs. His results aren't SUPERB but they aren't bad either.
Terrible take on Demuslim. He is a few levels above machine and incontrol but he doesn't struggle to get results - he GETS results. Look no further Sao Paulo and the Winter Arena.
Furthermore, stuff like the Idra = machine joke is exactly the exposure the sponsors want. Does anyone know what Titan, Feast, look like? No. Who can name Millenium's sponsors? Not nearly as many that know EG is 'intel, steelseries, kingston, monster, beyond gaming, sapphire...' Heck, even I know them and I don't even try to.
On March 13 2012 07:30 Mrvoodoochild1 wrote: I love EG, but this tournament is simply pointless.
Well, I don't think its pointless but its not an amazing tournament either. If they had PuMa, JYP, Huk, Demuslim and IdrA round robin tournament for us to bet on then I think it would be really fun to watch (for me personally). Ofcousre, it'd be really hard to get all those players to do it seeing how busy they are with practice and tournaments. But it would be really cool to watch the best of EG duke it out in some competitive games. I watched IdrA and Huk and loved it but was kind of put off after the machine and incontrol match. But Incontrol and machine casting PuMa vs. Demuslim or JYP vs IdrA or something like that would be nothing short of amazing.
Therefore, I don't think its pointless. Its a chance for fans to bet on matches, win awesome prizes from various sponsors, watch your favorite EG players compete against each other (and not in a tournament!), and sets up some cool stuff for the future. I think that's an awesome idea and would love to see more of this kind of this from the community. In that sense, the concept behind this tournament is quite unique. I'm going to continue to bet on the matches and tune in when I can.
Just watched the match between iNcontroL and IdrA. They should just have deleted those games and do another Bo5. Game 2 was maybe the worst performance by iNcontroL to date, I don't even understand what happened there, or what he tried to achieve. I don't want to watch IdrA vs Machine now...

BTW - vods of last round are up.
yeah ur right i wish someone would give us an update on bo7 and the contest closing is it still the same date or not
The schedule for the 3/4th match and the Grand Finals will be posted soon!
What about contest closing at 13th though -_-
1. Contest Dates: Contest shall commence on February 13th, 2012 and continue until midnight of May 3rd, 2012 (the "Contest Period"). All attempts to enter the Contest outside the Contest Period are void.
As it clearly always has ^^ Good enough for me ;-)
Great website and casters but the overall quality of games atrocious compared to other events (most of which are equally free). + Show Spoiler +
Most of the criticism has been covered in this thread in a quite abrasive manner so I'll only add a bit of comment on the finals. You might say that HuK had idra tilting, but it seemed like he just didn't care in situations where he was down a bit and left the game even earlier than usual. Having DjWheat cast two six pools in a row on 4p maps just seems like a waste of his and the viewers time.
The players seemed to lack an incentive to compete, and not just throw games or make ludacris showmatches. Seeing as this was branded as a, albeit friendly, competion, the games really should have captured that sort of tension. I would have loved to see some sort of prize for the winner. This was probably supposed to be the title of most evil genius which, while meaningful for the fans, isn't the sort of thing the players seemed to care about all that much.
Next time you might wanna let them wear a EG BONJWA paper crown 'round the EG lair for a month or something instead

If you're going to have a week long delay/not upload it at all to the site, you could have someone make an update in the designated thread - I'd think that's a huge reason as to why start one at all.
so the webpage says winners would be announced the day after the grand finals, and here it says the betting period would end on May 3rd. Both have passed and neither have happened. Come on, EG. Not to mention youve still not updated any of the scores whatsoever.

Go easy! They got attacked by someone and the entire EG sites crashed around the begining of April. They rightfully delayed the ending timing so we have time to earn prizes :O but yeah some stuff is a bit slow here.

i wouldnt hold your breath the release the gracken contest during the last master cup ended like a week or two after it was supposed to so we probably wont get an update till the 10th or possibly later
i love EG so much but they run these contests pretty sloppily
:o doubtfully I'll win anything, but I'm delaying building computer for this drawing. Super excited. Need to re-announce the time of the announcement of the winners.

pretty much the same for me. except im entered in several things with 1 2 or 3 bids lol... so i would highly doubt with the odds that i dont at least win something.
Though its been almost a month since this ended and no update at all yet.
Ah, sadly this event totally slipped under my radar. However, now that Thorzain joined EG, it is undoubtely clear that he is the most evil genius. Especially if you consider that he has something which all (James Bond) villains have: German skills.
winners announced on home page of the contest now. I won the hard drive from kingston and a bg premium. now I only need to wait for the email to actually claim it, or whatever i need to do....
Tbh i am pretty pissed right now. I don't want to be a jerk, be ungrateful about the "gifts" and complain about everything but the situation is unacceptable.
I was pretty patiencent if you look at the time lapse. Contest originally ended: 19th April delayed ending: 3rd May (2weeks+) winner announcement: 22th May (3weeks!!!) still no e-mail (1 week-) until packets sent out: (? weeks) date of arrival?
This is just not very professional and i would have expected more of a company like EG.
Edit: And there is not even an announcement like: "we are sorry, this is delayed..., it will happen xx and xx.

Why were you one of the people who won?
Yes obviously. you can also read that in my comment at the top of this page.
---Edit 30th May: Yay, i finally got an email!---
---Edit 28th june: the ssd arrived. It actually was a kingston hyperx 3k ssd instead of the "normal" one but i guess that's not that big of a deal. Thx to EG and Kingston---
