I think everyone is forgetting that except for a handful of good foreigners, everyone else is not there or at the gathering, copenhagen games, setting up for dreamhack etc..
That being said, some names in this tourney who I would have hoped could have done better.. (ret, idra, a few others that I cant remember right now)
But yeah Sase and HuK did really well, they just didnt make the cut.. There is a shit load of great korean players compared to foreigners in this tournament.. And a lot of "noname" foreigners.. Sorry but it was very apparent from the start that it was goingn to be a korean domination apart from having steph, whitera and idra in the pool play.. Sure I had hopes for ret, sase, huk to perhaps make it through, but noone else really..

That's sad that there's so many Koreans here. I don't have anything against them, but for SC2 to remain as an e-sport in a larger scale, this isn't going to help. :/
Nestea got this.

Because the GSTL finals are afterwards =D
ah. well thats a good enough reason. thanks.

i think stephano has a good chance of getting out of his group. curious and jyp are probably some of the weaker players from the open bracket(lucky him that jjakji isnt in his group, jjaji having one of the best TvZ) gogo stephano! Idra and Whitera could both go 0-4 in their groups.... but i m really excited about this evening! there are lots of stories that could be created. Nestea's comeback? MKP's domination? MMA the son of the emperor? Stephano the foreign hope? (i hope Stephano meets Polt again because that is probably the biggest rivalry we have here in IPL), the matches between the players of gstl(Bomber vs GhostKing, Squirtle vs Creator and Curious vs MKP), jjakji's time to prove his TvT skills, GhostKing unveiling himself in a tournament other than gstl after the scandal(MKP has been saying GhostKing is better than himself), MC's ceremonies, etc etc. I cant wait! lol if anyone tells me this tournament has just become boring because its boring to watch koreans dominate, haha too bad for you that you cant enjoy it as much as i will be enjoying it.
|
Now that I looked at the schedule I'm even more upset. JYP vs Curious and Stephano vs Curious will most probably be the games that determine whether it's 8 or 7 Koreans in the final bracket, and they're not getting aired.

Most of the Koreans that are there are a) either signed to a foreign team b) there for GSTL.
Few invitees withstanding of course.

Thx IPL for bringing some of the very best for us to watch.
Wish more people would realize how lucky they are to see these games.

I'll come back to the Ro8 and check if there is still a foreigner left, if not, thanks im done with you IPL. If I want to see a Korean tournament I can go watch GSL Vods with Tastosis. Go watch pro wrestling, it seems more your speed. This is a sport first and foremost, not a contest of who has a bigger fanbase. Lol only because I dont like that Koreans dominate at IPL and think that it makes the tournament boring I should quit watching Starcraft? I like watching Koreans at the GSL and I like to watch a few Koreans at foreign events but I dont like to watch 28 Koreans in the top 32 of IPL. In the first place SC2 is entertainment, in the 2nd place it is a sport which needs fair competition. But who cares about fair competition if it is not entertaining? A lot of people (not the TL hardcore fans of course) will lose interest in SC2 if every major event is being dominated by an army of Koreans like IPL4. Why do you think Demuslim, Idra, Incontrol etc. get 5-8k viewers on their streams while most Koreans pros dont get more than 1k viewers if everyone just wants to watch the best players?
Have to agree with this I would lose interest in watching the game if the Korean domination becomes complete and so will a lot of other casual viewers. How many people outside of Scandinavia or Russia ever watch bandy? However I don´t see what you can really do about it, the foreigners are simply not good enough and the gap is widening.

Honestly, if Stephano, WhiteRa, and IdrA weren't past winners of previous IPL's (giving direct seed), they wouldn't be there with the groups either.
It would be all Koreans for sure.

alive gets two games, but Nestea only gets one? The fuck is that bro

Any word on when we get replays?

I've stopped watching foreigner starcraft 2 almost entirely, mostly because after watching the level of play displayed by koreans you start noting the slow paced-mistake ridden play that most foreigners have. Even random code B koreans are better than most foreigners in most aspects of the game, this makes watching foreigner starcraft just... underwhelming.
Attachment to figures comes with time and watching. The only foreigners I root for right now are White-Ra and Dimaga, while there are lots of koreans I've found to have funny and interesting personalities and backstories. I don't feel any difference in the attachment I can get to a KR player compared to a foreigner.
GO KOREA! When there's another country that can produce such quality players, I'll be rooting for them as well. Until then, may the best player win.

1. Random Koreans here?
2. GSL also has random Koreans?
3. Hating on IPL for showing high-quality games, rather than just a foreigner fest?
My face and my palm both hurt right now.

I'm just surprised not to see more foreigners participating in a tournament that has such a generous payout. Did players have to qualify to get into the open bracket?
Also, I love Korean players so I don't have any problem with the way the brackets look. But I was half thinking, especially at a tournament with so much money, that they should start offering a consolation prize to the highest placed foreigner since realistically all the money is going over to Korea. For example, something like "Hey there Ret, great showing today, even though you didn't make it to the championship bracket, you were first overall foreigner! We didn't want you to leave empty handed, so here's some gift cards for Walmart and the Cracker Barrel, and a faux gold trophy with the word 'Special' prominently written on the base!"

I've got to say, this tournament has the worst format I've ever seen. Players like White Ra and Idra, who won't win a single game, will leave with $1000 dollars for being invited. Meanwhile, players like Huk, Sase and Illusion, who beat top Koreans, leave with absolutely nothing.
Let's stop with invites in every tournament, they just don't make sense.

I agree, i really dont understand why formats are so impossible to do properly for esports in general, just invite 32 or so players and put them in pools, top 8 or 10 or whatever get paid, none of this upper/lower bracket thing, "open bracket" or anything like that. Just like World Cup in football, invite the best. Not only do they reward the wrong people but fans find it confusing, and if it wasent for TL nobody would know who faces who, when, why, for what and who is out, in, won, lost, what, where etc.
Besides you can hold qualifers for your tournament and make more money with ads there + built the tournament up.

Wait, are you from the future, and you know that idra and White-Ra won't win a single game?
