The UC Davis StarCraft Club is pleased to announce our Spring Book Drive Open StarCraft 2 LAN Tournament 2012!
After our enormously successful Fall LAN 2011 and MLG Winter Arena BarCraft, we are excited to continue our quarterly LAN tournament tradition this spring while also giving back to the community.
We are hosting a $1,000 64-player 1v1 Double Elimination Tournament on May 5, 2012! In order to both promote the Collegiate eSports scene while attracting professional and aspiring gamers alike, we are also hosting a 1v1 consolation tournament and a 2v2 tournament starting later in the day. A single ticket will grant entry into all three tournaments!
We will be coordinating a Book Drive integrated into our tournament registration process in partnership with the Worldwide Book Drive organization. For players and spectators alike raffles, contests, and social activities will be ongoing throughout our tournament, so everyone attending can enjoy their time in-game and out!
Date: Saturday, May 5th, 2012 from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. (PST)
Location: UC Davis Visitor and Alumni Center [Map]
Cost: A $5 online donation ($7 at the door) will grant you entry into all three tournaments. A book donation can be exchanged for full access to lunch food and drink. Donate a second book and dinner is free as well! Those wishing to spectate will not be charged an entry fee, and may come and go as they please.
If you are interested in participating in any of the tournaments, purchase your player pass ahead of time to be automatically entered into the tournament bracket with priority seeding based on your ladder ranking.
Remember, a ticket grants entry into all three tournaments! Sign-ups for the consolation and 2v2 tournaments will take place on Saturday at the LAN.
The main tournament will consist of a double elimination 64-player 1v1 bracket. Each round will be a Bo3 until the semi-finals, where rounds will continue as Bo5. Competitors of any rank will be welcome to give the tournament a try, and players advancing to the Ro8 will win tiered money and prizes depending on their final placement.
Consolation Tournament
Because it sucks to be knocked out of a LAN early, we will be hosting an additional 1v1 tournament with a smaller prize pool later in the day. This will be a second chance for many of the competitors who hit an unlucky string of matches and still have more to show. Prizes will include coaching sessions from our schools aces such as ruxin, Tbeezy and Spanishiwa, as well as gaming gear, gift cards and swag.
2v2 Tournament
There will be an additional 2v2 tournament hosted at this LAN. Compete against the 2v2 beasts DnXGuruLegit and Speece in a separate event with its own set of prizes. In order to prevent scheduling problems, the 2v2 tournament will only be open to those players dropping out before the Ro8 in the 1v1 tournaments.
Lunar Colony V Magma Core Scorched Haven The Boneyard Tyrador Keep
The winner of each game set within a match will concede map choice for the following set to his or her opponent.

[1v1] Main Tournament - $1,000 Prize Pool [1v1] Consolation Tournament - $100 Prize Pool
[2v2] Partner Tournament - $100 Prize Pool, Tt eSPORTS Prizes

State had won the first Bo5 against xSixSuppy, resetting the match and now forcing a second Bo5 against Suppy to determine first place. However, due to time constraints, the finalists agreed to delay the second Bo5 until UCD can host a show match to determine the winner of the 3rd UCD LAN.
Should UC Davis continue its undefeated streak (and you can bet that we will), attendees will have a chance to witness firsthand our road to the finals. During the lunch break of the LAN we will play our Collegiate StarLeague games live as we battle it out to become the Western Division Champions.
Book Drive
We are looking for a chance to help have an impact on the rest of the community, and what better way to do that than with a book drive? All books collected during the LAN will be donated to the Worldwide Book Drive. And don't forget, anyone who brings a book will get a discount on their lunch and dinner tickets, so come with with a book and help children around the world.
"Unused books destroy the environment and are a failed opportunity to promote literacy. Every year, the extra work and expense of processing and distributing used books drives millions of pounds of used books to landfills or corrosive storage units. In these places, the books become a detriment to the environment. And moreover, the loss of these books prevents them from being used to help battle worldwide illiteracy.
Today, WBD has developed a streamlined system for the collection, resale and donation of needed books to qualified organizations promoting literacy. Just as John and Dave first envisioned, WBD now has the infrastructure and the model to donate hundreds of thousands of books a year."

Logistics
There will be plenty of room for spectating and relaxing with professional casting from UC Davis' very own Nebulous. Honorary guests may also include HDGamer and vileSpanshwa, so bring a camera!
This is a Bring Your Own Computer (B.Y.O.C.) event! If you plan on participating in any of the tournaments please arrange to transport yourself plus one StarCraft II capable computer, laptop or desktop, to the Alumni Center before the tournament begins.
Computer setup and practice games will start at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday. Arrive on time to secure a good spot. The tournaments will run until their conclusion, estimated for early evening. Free play will resume after that.
Campus parking is free on the weekends in the South Entry parking structure and lots 1 and 2. [Parking Map]
Here are some other LAN tournament basics you shouldn't forget:
Ethernet cable, the longer the better.
Power strip with enough outlets for your computer plus one.
Headphones. Speakers are not allowed.
Extension cord is a plus, circuit breaker outages are a pain.
Routers and switches, if you have, to ensure you get connected.
Do not bring alcohol, of any variety.
If you have any questions please post below, or feel free to contact the event coordinators Sam Vu at stvu@ucdavis.edu and Timothy Gandionco at tpgandionco@ucdavis.edu.
Yes! We will be providing both lunch and dinner for $5 each meal. However, since this is a charity LAN, if you bring books to donate, we will be giving a free meal (100% discount!). If you bring more than one book, you'll get a dinner covered as well!
What happens if I meet Spanishiwa round 1?
First off, you'll having an awesome story and replay to share with all of your friends. Secondly, because this is a double elimination tournament, you'll still have a shot at competing for the big money! Finally, if you get eliminated early, don't worry, we'll still have the Second Tournament to give you another chance at victory!
Who will be there?
Davis is home to the current Rank 1 CSL team, with players such as Ruxin, Tbeezy, Spanishiwa, and the best 2v2 team consisting of DnXGuruLegit and Speece. Besides that, there will be a lot of other nerd ballers coming, such as iS.AxSlav, so come out and enjoy a Saturday with us.
How do I sign up for the Consolation Tournament or 2v2 Tournament?
In order to sign up for the Consolation Tournament, you have to first sign up for the Main Tournament and be eliminated by the time the first round the Second Tournament begins. Similarly, in order to participate in the 2v2 tournament, you have to be in neither the Main Tournament nor Second Tournament. Remember, these tournaments are a chance for everyone to have fun, so make sure you stick around to participate!
Can I bring non-StarCraft friends?
Yes! We'll be sure to convert them by the end of the day
What is the UC Davis StarCraft Club?
UC Davis StarCraft Players is a group designed to foster development and interaction centered around all that is StarCraft. This includes but is not limited to playing LANs, watching Proleague games, and talking about StarCraft. Additionally, we are seeking to help improve the community by tying in charitable acts such as book drives or donations.
I have a question that's not on here!
Leave a post in this thread and I'll get back to you as soon as I can, or go to our club Facebook page.
It is great that it is a book drive as well. For a second I thought this was like a book exchange, like for textbooks x_x;
Anyway I am glad that e-sportings is that popular at me old school. UCD has a habit of getting a leg up on trends (during my time it was facebook) so this is a good sign for longevity. Also Aggies fighting!?!
I am so proud of how far you all have come as a club! It brings tear to my eyes to see UC Davis not only leading the way in biological sciences but university participation in Starcraft tournaments on the West coast.
The stream will be seared onto my screen by the end of the tournament <3

Tournament administrators will look up your Battle.net Character Name and Character Code to determine your bracket seeding. So "Diamond" or "No Games Played", you'll get the same seed.
My advice: quickly play your placement game, then mark down your rank this season!

Player interviews are in the process of being published! Look forward to seeing them sometime in the next 24 hours!
I found this UC Davis hype video featuring some of the players competing at the tournament!
That 2v2 team looks scary! What's more, I'm hearing Cal might send out a couple players to represent...which would be sick! Anyone from else from Berkeley coming out?

Bringing your own router is not required, but a spare router or switch will help you secure the seat you're looking for at the event.
While we do not anticipate any shortage of available switch ports, without your own router or switch to add some breathing room your distance from the main switches will depend on the length of your ethernet cable. Does that answer your question?

As long as you've paid online (http://www.ucdstarcraft.com/store/spring-lan-2012-player-pass.html), you're checked in and good to go! Since we only have seating for 64 players, we encourage players to sign up ahead of time online to ensure a spot. Over half the spots have been filled so far!
If there is anyone that wants to have an interview just find me (Imbu) at the LAN! Can't wait to see the games later today!
If you have any questions for the competitors at the LAN, leave a post in the other thread, and I'll make sure to get some kind of answer! Or maybe a picture at least =D!
The stream should be twitch.tv/ucdstarcraft but it doesn't seem to be up yet, at least not for me. (the chat refuses to load too so I didn't get any update from anyone)
These games have been pretty sweet so far! Aside from the occasional mic-screwups in the venue (which causes ear-splitting reverb) the whole event has been amazing. There are even TVs in the lobby that are running the stream! Thumbs up to UCD for hosting a sick LAN.
Started a little late, and there was some lag, but overall great event. Met a lot of cool people and just wanted to thank everyone who made it possible
The showmatch to determine the Champion of the 3rd UCD LAN is going live in 15 minutes at 2 PM! Come watch xSixSuppy go up against QuanticState in an epic best of 5 showmatch casted by our very own AlphaFerg!
Congrats to xSixSuppy (aka Superiorwolf) for defeating QuanticState with a narrow 3-2 victory! Thank you everyone again for making this even as awesome as its been, can't wait for the next one!!!
