If MC tries to play his weird Blink Stalker build into tech build in PvT, he will probably lose. If he can get some of the Parting build rolling, he has a better chance.
Also, MC is 1-7 against Ganzi in foreign tournaments. It looks bleak, MC fans.

If MC drops to Up and Downs, that would be quite the killer group, since aLive and Jjakji already failed to make it thru.
I'm not sure whether or not I can do both an LR and keep the thread updated with polls and such. Sounds like a bit too much work. Anyone else able to do the live reports?

I've already made the polls, you just need to copy and paste them in as the games end

Well he's 3-0 vs Ganzi in the GSL so there's still hope

It's funny, because MMA lost to MVP in Anaheim, got destroyed during Providence even though he was the heavy favorite as one of the top 4 seeds, couldn't even qualify for Winter Arena, lost to Puma at IEM, and lost to Squirtle at IPL.
Sure, he never really lost to foreigners, but I'd argue that MMA's results in Korea are so much stronger.

Why are Wolf and Khaldor ONCE AGAIN talking down the players. Keen is keeping MMA from maxing out due to econ lead. Look at the supply. He is keeping the same 40 supply lead!

I just started watching, was the cloak banshee defense this game? I'm kinda shocked because despite horrible banshee control of his own, he actually defends banshees quite well. WP by keen from what I've seen.
Casters fail to acknowledge that this is a map you have to be aggressive once you reach 3 bases. The terrain is just too good to deny 4th and pressure the 3rd at the same time. It's not wise to ease up the pressure and let go of that positioning.

Yeah, MMA Really strugled in the early game with defending banshee's. But overall MMA really was cost efficient.
Is there anything that can be done about my Gom player constantly dropping the video and cutting back to the orange backdrop with the logo? Every 1-2 minutes it's doing this. -.-
Looking forward to the next match, 2 of the leading 3 from the next generation. Personally think Creator is going to edge Maru despite Maru being so impressive this season, tough draw for Prime though having to have them play each other.

yep
6 player groups (sometimes 5), round robin group play (bo1), top 2 go to Code S, rest are Code A next season.
I feel like that last game was played absolutely brilliantly by Keen, constant trading and pressure to keep MMA even more off balance than he already was.

Nothing volatile about it tbh, they got scouted and were just poorly defended.
On May 16 2012 19:24 ceaRshaf wrote: Why is it called round robin? Such an ugly name.
It's from French:
The modern use of the term dates from the 17th Century French ruban rond (round ribbon). This described the practice of signatories to petitions against authority (usually Government officials petitioning the Crown) appending their names on a document in a non-hierarchical circle or ribbon pattern (and so disguising the order in which they have signed) so that none may be identified as a ringleader.
I feel SlayerS needs to pick up a new promising player... MMA not getting the best practice atm specially after the fall of Ryung tvt....and the leave of ganzi and teja
On May 16 2012 19:22 jhk72 wrote: So how does U&D work? Can MMA get to Code S this comming season?
U&D works like this: If MMA's group has 3 or more protosses, he'll stay code a. If there are 2 protosses, MMA will stay code a with 70% probability, 1 protoss means 30% probability, no protoss means something is fishy with up&down groups.

This is a really interesting match up. I actually picked creator in LB due to his experience and inter-team dynamic meaning I thought he would have the upper hand (+protoss )

LOL. I think teenagers' fastest growing period is between 14-17 years old. Maru is 14. He'll pop up there soon.
It's interesting that this LR-thread is running incredibly slow. Maybe everyone is playing D3 but the thread yesterday ran also pretty slow as well. Why are so few people interested in such amazing players?

Code A + D3 I'd say.
I kinda like it, feels like a much friendlier and tight-nit LR community
Anyone that plays and know what's good with D3? All I see on stream is charaters running around doing nothing and then slash at others once in a while.
Wolf mentioning he didn't see comebacks of Protoss when losing the natural and being contained like this. Somehow I always lose after bringing Protoss into this position, mostly against 4-gate-immortal-allins. I still give Creator a good chance.
Yeah I am kinda surprised at the casting today and yesterday, I know both Wolf and Khaldor are veryg ood casters, but it's been kinda lacking today and yesterday. #blamediablo3?

He got a lead, but then he underestimated how strong an all-in from protoss can be. He knew he was weak against it and didn't take the proper precautions. This wasn't creator playing well but maru just just thinking lol. Honestly creator had two options here, attack with an all-in (most likely) or double expand. With both options maru should ahve had two spread out bunkers up and be ready incase of a counter-attack, if hes wrong and it's a double expand then he can sell the bunkers and grab the few extra marines and move in to crush creator's smaller army at that time.
And this is where you die to the counter attack. If you committ to any serious pressure as toss and you don't do game ending damage you just lose as protoss is just so cost-inefficient to terran/zerg in the early game. I'm surprised Maru just didn't attack the nat instead of trying to drop there.

In my opinion it was close enough. Maru used perfect SCV-pulls and good focus firing. If he played just a little bit worse Creator would have won the game right there. Even without winning he could catch up a little and can now try to carry it into the later stages, where Protoss is strongest. Maru is still in the lead but you shouldn't count Creator out like this.
Boy, wolf seems really off today. His reading and judgement doesn't make any sense. Protoss is on 1 base economy vs 3 orbitals. Both traded over 20 workers. Maru is ahead on upgrades. Maru is definitely ahead and has been for a while, he is only lacking sufficient viking support.
Lol, Maru has lost so many scvs this game and his income is still even with Creator. Unless you just do devastating damage killing scvs doesn't matter as toss.

It's the way the matchup is. You can thank Blizzard for it.
"Yo terrans you just need to do damage early/mid game to get an advantage"
couple matches later...
"Wow terrans are such cheesy, no skill players"
There is a reason we complain about late-game so much It's because those all-ins/hard timings are neither fun for viewers or for players. It's very possible to fight protoss in a macro game but it is INSANELY difficult.

I usually don't get annoyed by stuff like this, but when you condescendingly keep calling out the desicions of better players you better be flawless when you see everything. Or else it's just comes across as you're ignorantly arrogant, and that is in fact annoying.

No, that really was a bit frustrating to listen to. I wish they'd just admit that they're unsure where the advantage lies when games go off into non-standard situations.

He was ahead first but he kind of botched it when he sacrified all scvs like 30-40 for nothing? Also I don't know why Wolf blamed Creator for not making probes, if he had made probes he might not be able to hold that attack that won him the game, zzz
Maru made a crucial mistake in not going hard on the defense back at his base. No reason not to do that, there was nothing that creator could do to win the game other than that.
Then his second attack he fell into a classic terran trap, trying to kill the protoss. He needed to see the collosus, and just go back and make a few vikings while taking out a third if creator tried for it. Big problem for terrans in TvP is trying to end it early but not in the right way. If he had waited for a few vikings then he could have crushed creator with the exact same attack a few minutes later.

Three bases in the back, taken out Colo, upgrade advantage, sure, behind in army and could lose to a counter, but still.
1 colo still alive, upgrade advantage from protoss (1-1 with +2 armor nearly done vs 1-1 with no armory), 3 base vs 3 base with protoss massively ahead in the worker count and you just lost your army.

Wolf has always been condescending. Just because he hasn't seen a Protoss recover after losing the Nexus doesn't mean the game is an auto-loss for Protoss. He called the game's result so very early.
5.00 MaruPrime spawning as the blue Terran in the 7 o'clock position. CreatorPrime spawning as the red Protoss in the 1 o'clock position.
Maru goes 1-rax and and denies scouting, goes for FE. Creator has 1 Gateway and 1 Cybernetics, chrono boosting warp gate. One gas.
2 more Gateways added on for Creator. Bunker up on the nat for Maru.
Forward pylon down for Creator. 3-gate pressure coming in from Creator.
10.00 Pressure comes in from Creator. Maru building second Bunker. Quickly repairs the first bunker, takes out a Stalker. Creator pressure fails.
Maru forced to keep SCVs pulled off. Nexus down for Creator, getting two more Gateways in the back.
Stalkers does some more damage to the bunker. maru seems to forget to repair, but repairs in the last second. Multiple Sentries being warped in for Creator.
Two Engineering Bays up for Maru. Maru unloads the bunkers and moves out, not aware of Sentries! Quick forcefields trap all the Marines, follow-up forcefields deny repairs. The bunkers fall and as the huge Protoss army pushes up the ramp gg is called.
so fn gosu, hid the sentries, taunted maru non-stop, maintained perfect macro and also control at the front, perfect forcefields and then just put out the raep
Autorepair sux usually, autorepair has very few practical uses. In the bunker example, if your scvs are on autorepair and some of them take stalker shots, they'll start trying to repair themselves and it'll suck hard. Typical only use of autorepair is when you have a mech army, some scv with autorepair are very useful, or are harassing with hellions, you put your scv that occupy the xelnaga towers to autorepair, so you can just pull back the hellions and forget it. But autorepair for bunkers is terrible.
Euggh. Triple CC into fast four gas, only make a dozen or so marines, get addons so your not producing anything at all, move out your only marines, lose the game. Terrible decisions when you know at the very least you are up against a non-economical protoss opening.

His BO was perfect and held off the aggression perfectly. The marine move-out was a problem, but it's an easy mistake to make if you don't have full map vision.

Sometimes when you have been harrassed alot it can be awesome to pull one scv from mining and put him on auto repair so he fixes all your scv's before the next drop/runby comes. I love my scv's on full hp, after all you never know when its time to pull them all and attack:D

Is they called that an all-in ? It was a contain maybe but not an all-in imo. I mean, Wolf says it's an all-in and on the next second a second Nexus warps-in. Creator knew that by containing Maru like this, he would steal him a lot of mining time so that Creator's eco is not too far behind. That's why Maru had to try to stop this contain, but it just didn't go well, Creator had a nice reaction and that's it.

Possible. If MC plays his standard, one dimensional, gimmicky play I wouldn't be surprised to see Ganzi advance. Every time MC reverts to that style of play, he seems to lose.
auto-repair isn't bad if you get all the scvs in position around the bunker and then put them on hold position and auto-repair. that way they won't herp derp around if one of them takes damage. But yeah if you have the apm its always better to manually direct them.

Also dumb to hold position because when the forcefields go down, they won't try to scurry over to the next open spot and try to repair.

Besides, even if the stalkers hit the scv's, that's less DPS on the bunker itself.

Come on, it's really not a fair comparison. MC got famous for his two-base timing deadly attacks, and not for his great macro and late-game. I'm a huge fan, don't get me wrong, but he's not at all as much of a complete player as Mvp
On May 16 2012 20:08 Tsubbi wrote: calling mc 2 base is like calling mvp cheese king, they can do it but are able to do anything else too, thats what champions are made of
To be fair all we saw out of MC for a long long long time (like 8 or so month's ill randomly toss out there) was 1- 2 base timing attacks and nothing else.
MVP played macro is every single matchup in almost all of his games and won that way through superior game-sense/strategy for a good 1.5 years or so. Lately he has mixed in alot more timing attacks/all-ins to catch players playing extemely greedy and people are just mad at him. No matter if MVP has probably 200+ solid macro gams under his belt, if he plays 6-9 games that aren't 40+ minute epics he's considered cheesy. Even if it's only over a few weeks.

I would never have judged him off one simple mistake. He has consistently thrown games doing this exact same thing. Off the top of my head, I remember there was a PvP vs Oz(IIRC) where he tried some double immortal WP drop and the same thing happened.

Warp Prism moving across the map with three Zealots for MC as he moves to the middle. Both players taking out the rocks to the third. MC taking a third.
Double Forge on the way for MC as he starts Storm. Third CC morphing into OC.
GanZi moving across the map. Drop from MC into the main.
GanZi pushes in! Factory blocking the way between the natural and third, not allowing Zealots in. Zealots in the main of GanZi are taken out in spite of MC warping in.
MC's build was pretty bad for that map and for what Ganzi was doing. Mass gateway and then no aggression when Ganzi was already economically ahead from 14CC. Really late upgrades and aoe too.
Get AoE, get upgrades or be prepared to forcefield your ramp until you have AoE. Don't move out when you have a bad army MC, especially on a map like Entombed!
I'm really sad for MC. But not only the position but also the timing greatly favored Ganzi and there was some luck here as well. But wp from Ganzi. Now I really hope he loses in RO32.
I mean that the way that game played out had nothing to do with map balance. MC was out on the map with an inferior unit comp and got completely rolled.

MC always does this(at least most of the time)..hope to catch an inferior terran army..and if it doesn't work..hope for godly forcefields.
The funny thing is, MKP practically plays that style in every TvP, and MC practices against MKP all the time.
If anyone watched that little showmatch between MKP and MC a couple weeks ago, MKP used similar builds 6 straight times, and dominated in 5 straight games after losing the first.
How has MC still not picked up on ways to stop that push? Warp prism harass is not the answer.

His style just seems outdated, I don't really get it. He goes for a very high gateway count on 2 bases, gets both TC upgrades but he's always slow on his forges and doesn't get aoe for ages, often only getting archons for a while before actually bothering to research storm after he's taken a fairly late third.

I feel really bad for Fin, since he is likely looking for a new team right now and GSL is basically his only form of exposure right now. Not sure how well informed in Korea they are about online tournaments or how much competing in them would benefit in a search for a team.
Hopefully he can show a couple really good games now.

Horrible macro by fin - 6 marines queued + 400 mins _ CC under construction off 1 base. Then he stopped making SCVs, sieged his tanks under the ramp and got them cleaned up by a marine concave at the top. And it went from 35 vs 25ish SCVs to 45ish to 55ish with roughly equal timed 3rds. 0 harassment by Fin, happy took map control, slow positional death.
On May 16 2012 21:02 Plexa wrote: So I assumed Fin had this won, walked away to make some food, I come back and wth? Can someone fill me in please
Fin didn't kill Happy's nat CC. So happy never fell behind in SCVs even though he lost a ton. Fin probably could have killed the nat cc tbh, just was slow about it. Happy broke Fins contain by having 2 vikings vs Fin constantly suiciding banshees (weren' even forcing scans when he was near turrets). Fins constant scans on Happys high ground tanks cost him a lot of econ and Happy broke out with equal scvs? Happy had also saved up energy on 2nd cc so he landed tons of mules.
Fin stopped building scvs and was in his base turtling while Happy sharked around map, built scvs, and just won by quickly overtaking Fins production.
Fin really should have won after his banshee killed tons of units but was really slow/lazy about his attack...

I guess he will find himself in a mediocre team. Not looking like a top player ever since making the switch to SC2 tbh

Hi my name is Fin, I am grand master in Korea and I just played this TvT with a friend. I did a 1-1-1 into expand, and did loads of damage and forced him to lift. However he managed to somehow win, and I dunno why. Plz TL watch my vod and tell me how the fck he won.

Hi Fin Im TL-dude, and I watched your vod. You need to macro better, thats what you should focus on until you comfortably can get to around 70-75 scv's with constant production. There is no point in talking about strategies until you get your scv's and depots straight. Good luck in the future.
I voted *****. This is a must-see game. Greatest fail ever. Greatest caster arrogance ever.
You never saw the Nestea vs. Inca final, did you?
Wolf and Khaldor weren't arrogant. Happy should not under any circumstances have been able to win in that situation. The only reason he did was because Fin played appalling.

I would think differently. The most basic mechanic if you can even call it that in SC and SC2 is building workers, it is virtually impossible imo for a former BW pro and a current SC2 pro to forget about it. It shouldn't even be in his mind, it should be part of this body habbit by now.

Happy moves around towards the third of fOrGG, scans and sees only a few tanks and marines defending. He stims and runs in, quickly cleaning up the tanks with 2/2 marines. The reinforecements from the natural of fOrGG are too late, and gg is callde as the CC is getting destroyed.

I did see Nestea-Inca. This game was better, coming from the "Elephant in the Room" ForGG.
The casters were arrogant. Their job is to make the game more interesting to watch, not preemptively calling out results. In the end they did actually make the game more interesting...

To be fair, MKP actually was really cheesy for a lot of last year.
Ganzi and Keen, however, absolutely are not, and never have been.

Ganzi was pretty notorious during the 1/1/1 era for always pulling that build out of his bag whenever he had to play a TvP. (But then again, most Terrans did this, and he certainly did it far less than PuMa.)

When did I ever say that Keen, Gumiho and ganzi cheesed their opponents. I merely called them cheesy players. Being cheesy players does not necessarily mean they have to cheese 100% of the time. I stated that they got lucky; it was a fluke.
Oh and I want to add Symbol to my list of overrated players who will be forgotten soon enough.

What the fuck. Ganzi has been a a mid-code S caliber player for over 6 months. Cheesy gimmicky type? Ganzi is the definition of a "boring" macro terran. He does rely on timings in TvP, but it's hilarious if you consider that makes him a cheesy player after talking about MC. I don't think Gumiho and Keen are proven to be top players yet, and they certainly aren't cheesy players, but Ganzi is definitely a top 10 terran in Korea.
edit: 4 day old account and your posts I looked at are all just as inflammatory, you seem very delusional in regards to the Starcraft scene.
Geez. I had my share of criticism of MC's playstyle in the past, but I'd rather see that than this. Totally uninspiring and lifeless play. It's like he's half a sleep or something.
And is it me or all the matches were kind of shitty? I'm used to clean builds and sharp decision making/map awareness, etc from GSL games but todays games were just.. lacking. Mabey except Leenock v aLive which had its own quirtk.
So Keen beat MMA is style? Yeaaaaaaaaaaaahhhh!!!! I was part of the 6% that voted for Keen over Nestea, and the 4% for Keen over MMA, now just waiting for dat badass Code S run.
