The Evil Geniuses Master’s Cup Series League will feature 12 teams in a round robin format with each team matchup containing at least four best of three games between two teams. The top four teams at the end of the season will advance to the playoffs on a two day live broadcast weekend. Results
Liquid went with their top lineup, and it paid off: They got some of the best matchups possible, Zenio gets a ZvZ, Taeja has a good MU, etc. It should be a good series.
Looks decent for Liquid, unfortunate for them that HerO got a PvP though, Puzzle is no slouch. Probably will go to ace, and I'd guess it'd be a PvP. Sending out MMA or a Zerg probably wouldn't be good because I don't know any Zerg/Terran that would beat HerO.
Dang it's close. Realisticly it could even be a 4-0 for both teams. Cheering for Liquid here, I hope they can beat SlayerS and still keep their chances for the play-offs alive.
Taeja > Miya 2-0 (Miya did beat alive so good for him but taeja is just soooo good at TvZ, I actually recall reading on gosugamers gumiho was raving about how no zerg could take taeja and I'm gonna take his word on player skill) Crank > Sheth 2-1 (SlayerS has a staggering amount of faith in crank, he was ace in GSTL against FXO and SlayerS even sent him to IPL4, I'm gonna go trust the emperor's faith and call this little upset) Zeno > Coca 2-1 (Zenio has great ZvZ while coca has struggled with the MU for ages but ZvZ is wild and coca is still hard to judge since he got freed so I'll say he can take a map) Hero > Puzzle 2-1 (I've given up on puzzle, he's a pretty good player but I just don't trust him to win when it's important anymore and hero has been playing really well) 3-1 Liquid
If it goes to an ace match in case ZvZ or PvP goes wild/ freed coca is really good at ZvZ then I'll say Yugioh > Taeja/ Hero 2-1 (A fairly large upset but interviews indicate that yugioh has been working really hard and it has shown in his results and games so I'll call it for John's favourite player)
Man, I actually think with that Korean lineup, Liquid can take this, but the SlayerS lineup is pretty scary too I'm rooting for SlayerS, but I think Liquid has a very very high chance of taking this easily
The mirror matches will be the deciding factors in this match.
TaeJa vs MiYa: TaeJa Having to face former teammates should be interesting for the Liquid prince. TaeJa will likely take the set, given that it is TvZ.
Sheth vs CranK: CranK CranK is extremely good, having over 60% wins in PvZ. He has been making a name for himself in team events lately as well. Sheth has been known for good ZvP as well, but he hasn't been doing so well in those matchups, as seen in NASL. He also did lose to CranK at IPL4.
Zenio vs CoCa: Zenio CoCa has never really shown a prowress for the matchup. Zenio has never been bad at this matchup. Hard to call, but I'll give the edge to Zenio because he has done some interesting things in ZvZ.
HerO vs Puzzle: HerO HerO should be able to win in this matchup. He has solid PvP and can compete with the best in the GSL. Puzzle seems lost in the matchup sometimes. If all else fails, HerO can just go DTs.
Liquid 3:1 SlayerS
This score seems really generous in Liquid's favor, though. A score of 2:2, going to ace, would be more likely. Liquid fielding TaeJa for that set would be risky because most SlayerS players probably know his style. HerO would be a much more solid choice.
I +think+ TL will take this, but I qualify that by saying that SlayerS' lower level players are often a step above what I expect them to be. I just think having quality Code S veterans like Taeja and Zenio and then Hero's PvP it should be a TL victory.

I'm not sure if Liquid can realistically qualify for the playoffs anymore... They'd need two 4-0's or at least 3-1's to have a good chance. If they beat Complexity 4-0 in week 11 and don't drop more than a set here, then they could have a shot but that's pretty unlikely.
TaeJa > Miya CranK > Sheth CoCa > Zenio HerO > Puzzle Ace: Tough to say who would be sent out depending on who's available, but I will guess CoCa > TaeJa

Yeah, I'm not certain Hero will lose it, but I 'think' puzzle will take it this time.
I would be happy to be proven wrong.
Just a little while ago Hero was training 24/7 for a PvP against squirtle, and though he lost in the end he showed good games. There's no way puzzle is going to beat him.

When both Protosses are high level like Hero and Puzzle, honestly PvP could go either way.

Maybe saying that there was "no way" Puzzle could beat him was overdoing it, but I believe Hero has the advantage.

I missed the first part of the game but was there a reason he couldn't support 4 reactor hellion (he was only making 4 hellions at a time)? It makes me think that was the first time he tried that build.
On May 23 2012 11:04 beatitudes wrote: had to mow the lawn, missed game 2, howd it go?
Taeja goes for 4 reactored factories, hellions are denied by a wall, and after he is just too far behind, and Miya takes him down with roachs and mutas.
I've seen MKP go 4 reactored factories on his stream, I thought it was a troll build, and then my friend saw it on another stream as well (maybe Rainbow's, he doesn't remember). So maybe it's legit after all?
MKP was playing Curious, and Curious answered with roaches, which was apparently not the correct choice, as MKP had so many hellions that they just simply killed roaches with splash. By the time Curious started mutas, after MKP took his third and killed countless drones, MKP had thors to counter that too. He added some siege tanks when roach upgrades became unhandable in late game.
remember when leenock did this exact build against crank on this map. It was GSTL I believe.
leenock just barely got lings inside, and managed to kill about 12 injured probes with a single baneling because crank stacked them up while running around inside his base.

I wouldn't say he outplayed him, Zenio did get the better of the ling-bling fights, but his one mistake of not preparing for the roach push just killed him. Glad to see Coca take the game though
The issue with mutas in zvz is the only way you can hold off roach/ling/bane agression is to have all the spine crawlers like azael is saying, however the only issue with that is its PAINFULLY obvious you're going for mutas when you have a 5 spine wall

Is there no way to incorporate only a few mutas at a time and keep them hidden, or is that just going to end up dying to a roach push anways? (A terran/protoss player trying to get some ZvZ knowledge )

Really hard and risky to do, unless the other play is doing the same exact thing and you're both playing passive/defensive. Also, you don't want to risk adding a few at a time, because as soon as someone sees 1 muta they'll assume mutas are coming. You kind of need a reasonable sized flock as the initial surprise or you won't do enough damage and just fall behind.

Too few mutas can be held off by queens, and if you delay the muta attack, the opponent can have time to get his infestors, which usually happens since infestors work better in the large army fights. But I'm no Nestea, and my explanation was relatively simple.

Between overlords and speedlings hiding anything in ZvZ is just a ticking timebomb, and if youre going mutas anyway you'll have such little everything else (which is the need for the spine wall) you die to roach pushes
Zenio has been the most disappointing player for me. I've been following him pretty heavily since liquid picked him up. Aside from that single all kill, he has been sucking in team leagues.

yeah man. That all-kill was one of the only times that he has ever won a teamleague series T_T
he just does terribly in team leagues :/ Liquid really needs to use ret more that him in the teamleagues. Not hating on Zenio though, outside of his team league woes, he is a great player
It's incredible how the small details of the engagement leaves Hero with no collosus and Puzzle with 8 collosus remaining. PvP truly is an enigma to me.

Hero, you got into the CODE S SEMIFINALS. This scrub Puzzle is in either code B or barely Code A. So please BEAT him. You can do it!!! Liquid has far too many underperforming Koreans on their team already XD

Hero and Taeja were both in the RO8 (with HerO in RO4), the only other Korean is Zenio. So how are they under-performing exactly?

Puzzle almost made it into Code S this season (3rd in his group), but his Up an Down group was stacked (aLive, Bomber, Maru, Curious, ForGG).

puzzle has been in code s FAR more times than hero has. He's been in round of 8 twice consecutively and is by far the more consistent player. As you can see, hero was the scrub today

Crank has always been a solid PvZ in Korea and should be favored against any foreigner zerg except stephano. Puzzle is a consistent Code S player with more convincing PvP than Hero. Puzzle should be slightly favored against Hero in my book. Today's results are totally expected.

lol there's a reason why HerO (and many other players, including MKP and Stephano) gets flak at times, and its mainly because fanboys are so ill-informed and biased....I myself am a fan of HerO, but if you call Puzzle a CODE B or BARELY CODE A SCRUB you are just blinded by fanboyism and obviously haven't followed Code S very much.

Its called trying to pump up the player I am rooting for.
Mental retardation seems unlikely for my calling Puzzle something you may not think he deserves. When people in any sport root for a team, it is often accompanied by downing the other team, saying their accomplishments were weak or scrub-like in comparison. Which is what I did. Because why not? I wanted Hero to win, sue me. Also AFAIK Hero gets not as much flak as a lot of other progamers. And biased? Of COURSE I am biased!! I don't dwell on slayers.net. I'm on teamliquid. It's like the home team!

I don't think Liquid is technically eliminated yet. Looking at the standings if the following happens they'll make it: Liquid beats coL 4-0 next week AND Fnatic goes 2-6 in their next two matches AND Empire loses to It's Gosu AND EG beats Fnatic but lose to Dignitas. So it can happen but I wouldn't bet on it.

Can't win everything we'll look to finish the season on a high note vs col and make another impressive showing in IPL TAC
Pretty poor showing tonight from TL, every loss was a 2-0! Now don't get your pitchforks out on me yet, not saying TL saying or anything, they are one of my favorites, I'm just saying that with GSTL coming up they are going to have to pull together and play better on a more consistent basis, especially that sheth won't be playing in GSTL and he is a huge asset.
