Sorry guys I'm at work and just excitedly posted. Had a quick browse on the website and seems a bar raft will be in full swing at the event (very Australian). Since there is only 330 seats if we subscribe early enough I was one of the first 20 or so are we guaranteed a seat or do we have to "buy" when they become open on the 27th (I know they're free just couldn't think of another word). Also anyone know any decent motels/hotels near this place lol. Never been to Sydney

he only played a little bit of beta, none of release - showed up to a qualifier and got the seed, said he would practice before WCS and his girlfriend wouldn't be too happy about it
In other news, i'm really happy to be playing in this event! not every day you get casted by tastosis! :D

yea im going to talk to a couple friends and see if they are keen on going
but seats for only 330, is there going to be standing room? don't the barcrafts at the paragon hotel get like 500-600 people going to them for GSL finals? I imagine there would be a decent turn out for a live Tastosis

Apologies if I'm not interpreting your post correctly, I'll do my best to answer your question. There's no ticket price/door price. The only thing you pay for is food, drinks, that sort of stuff.
Great to see HD back! He's a top 3 caster right after Moletrap. Both know more than anyone else in the game, make right calls, and although HD's voice isn't as appealing as Moletrap's voice, he's still the second best caster know the world. Can't for IPL5 to hear HD again and learn the game and hear his valuable sc2 insight and knowledge

Due to the liquor license of the venue we cannot allow minors into the premesis. Please note if you are under 18 years of age you will not be allowed into the venue!
So how are the players that are 17 going to play in this?

I'm confused as to why it would be HD and Painuser casting the event, surely this is an opportunity for some local casters to finally get some exposure, rather then flying out two not really amazing casters and using it as a sort of comeback after the whole ipl debacle, o.0
Either way will be exciting to see some of the lesser known australians tearing it up

mOOnGLaDe: Undisputed best SEA player for a long time. Gap has closed recently. Has performed well at IEM, WCG and more.
tgun: Has beaten many good Koreans such as Creator and IceCream in Bo3s, made it to Ro4 of Code A qualifiers.
Mafia: Is GM on Korean server. Made it furthest of any Australian in TSL4 qualifiers.
Ninja: Beat ST.RainBOw and other good players before. Big up and coming talent.
Legionnaire: Brood War Legend. First EVER player to score an all-kill in professional StarCraft.
Those guys are just particularly notable. Not much to say about the rest other than they're all good players (except Frustration. He offensive gg'ed me on ladder. Dick.)
Anyway, this is totally the sort of thing I've been wanting to see in Australia. =D
Will see if I can bring some people, get a great showing. What's the capacity on the tech park anyway? Never been in there, looks like there's gonna be some room to work with
Legionnaire is pretty much completely innactive after beta, he is no where near the one to watch out for in this tournament. Players to follow: Everyone! Everybody beats everybody on any given day in the sea scene these days within reason of course, Biggest (arguably) players tho would be glade, pig, mafia, targa.
ALSO: GET FUCKING GOATLUST TO COME TO WCS SYDNEY!!!!!

PiG also if he can get a decent month of practice in before this event! Took the most recent ACL tournament and qualified for IEM as well so he's currently on a tear.
Also hoping my team mate Mi.Frustration can do well! :D

A lot of Australia and New Zealands players are unknown to the rest of the world, hopefully WCS changes that, but they are definitely in great shape to show some world class Starcraft for us and give Legionnaire and mOOnGLaDe a run for their money.
thought HD and painuser got the boot for good, guess time does heal all wounds haha. Maybe they have been spending this time in the hyperbolic caster chamber and will be totally better than IPL
I can't wait to meet Legionnaire! For those wondering and saying he's going to just stomp this comp, maybe not so much, as much as i really would love to see it, he doesn't play too much anymore . But he'll be the one i'll be cheering for, if he wins then maybe he'll come back into the scene?

The IPL event killerdog is referring to is IPL4 in April I think
I've followed HD's Youtube for a while (About a year now, I started watching Sc2 around the start of IPL 2 and the first video I favorited on my YouTube was a game casted by HD afaik) and during IPL 4, HD tried to cast the event with a personality that he doesn't have when he casts game for his YouTube channel. And during the event, there was something about the HD + PU chemistry that didn't quite work out.
If anyone from Melbourne wants to car pool up for the weekend to go, please PM on TL. my friend (frustrated) is in it and i neeeeeed to go but i don't own a car. I will also make a thred, if anyone has any other tips on how to contact people for car pooling or just getting there in general also PM me. thanks!!!
I was wondering what happened to HD/Painuser. I know painuser has been streaming. But it seems they are not working for IPL full time anymore. Which is cool and all I really like Doa/cats combo. Glad they are casting i thought they had a good combo.
Should be a fun event. It will be good to see artosis and tasteless again.
I am definately not going to win, unlikely that i will even make it through to the Oceanic event. If i can destroy 1-2 ppls dreams, then its a job well done
I started playing after they announced this tournament, as there was going to be a qualifier in my city, so i thought i'd turn up and say hi to everyone. It was a surprise to qualify.
Some very good players in Aus who play all day, which i can no longer do.
To clear a few things up, I believe i was the third? player to get an all kill. First protoss. First foreigner.
This definately sounds like the largest ever e-sports event Australia has had.

My guess is that they're doing other work for IPL/IGN now instead of casting on full time.

You can get flights on Jetstar for ~$160 atm. Fly up first thing Saturday morning and come back early on Monday.
Driving wont be much cheaper if you need to pay for an extra nights accommodation and you get the benefit of not spending 20 hours in a car!

@Odious Tea - there were rumours about standing room, but also people saying those rumours were false and that you need a ticket.
@Steelavocado - The difficulty in the question is that there are many different definitions of contents, there is straight set of continents. The word continent originated in Europe where it was used to define EU vs. Africa vs. Asia. It was then later adapted to define the America's as two extra continents. There are always grey areas though - is the middle east part of Asia or Europe? Is India part of Asia (it is often instead referred to as a sub-continent, although in India itself people are taught it is part of Asia).
Australia is made up of two islands, the main landmass which is roughly continent sized - as well as tasmania. It also has control over a number of islands which are territories (but not states) of the country. Sometimes Australia is referred to as its own continent, it is also sometimes referred to as being a part of the content "Australasia" or "Oceania" - in these cases the difficulty is in putting a boundary between Asia and South East Asia (aka. SEA - the name of our sc2 server). So there is no one answer - any of the above are "correct". There is no official list of continents.
In terms of these tournaments - WCS Australia = the country Australia, and WCS Oceanic is a broader tournament including New Zealand.
Only way to get in is with a ticket. Seating only, no standing room. A lot of mis-information has led to a large majority missing out on going to this awesome event. I know I was one of the people that believed that even if I didn't get a ticket, I could still stand at the bar or in the standing room areas. Sad to see so many good people miss out on the 300 tickets available. Hopefully they organise a barcraft or find a more suitable location for the event to truly show off how big SC2 is in Australia.
FYI, 300 capacity is smaller than the amount of people that turn up to the local barcraft in Sydney, and that's without the Tastosis bump.
Big shock to see how quickly these tickets disappeared, even given the circumstances. Very fortunate to have scored some. This is going to be AWESOME!
A bit unfortunate that the venue is so small, but hey, those of us with tickets just need to be extra rowdy on behalf of all the people who weren't online within 15 minutes of ticket sale. Now that Tastosis are actually coming, it might mean next time next time we get some more warning and can book a bigger venue to seat more nerds!
Also, keen to see HD & PainUser - I haven't seen much from them lately, but I know PainUser has been streaming a TON.
Oh and all that continent talk - Australia is its own continent, plain and simple. Australasia and Oceania are regions (they are assigned based on countries/continents you are referencing - you could make one up for any combination of countries/continetns), not continents themselves.
I took the time to interview some of the WCS Australia competitors earlier this week, including Legionnaire. Keep an eye on Battle.net, they should be up soon!

Special considerations have been made for some people who pre-booked their travel and accommodation but missed out on tickets. We have some other stuff being announced soon to support those who missed out.
Unfortunately it's just a limitation of the venue, which was booked at the start of this year. With the original configuration, we weren't expecting to even fill out the venue - given that we hardly ever get more than 30 spectators to an event. Then we announced Tasteless & Artosis and all of a sudden the venue is too small. Star power!

I understand things change. I also wanted to make sure I was guaranteed a seat so I was there at 9am refreshing to ey my tickets. I'm just saying I can understand if people were to be angry. I was expecting a lot more people and was keen for Aus to have a big event that would bring more tournament here but with the way this has fallen its not looking that way. Just disappointed about the bigger picture. Super excited for the weekend though and with having seating only and a bar there drink lines should be significantly shorter.

Three interviews with mOOnGLaDe, Legionnaire & Rossi have been published to Battle.net.
Andrew "mOOnGLaDe" Pender My greatest rivals at this WCS will definitely be the zerg players. There is so much hinging on build orders and a little luck - which I guess is similar to every other mirror match. It's a very dangerous matchup and I'm going to have to be more careful than ever against my fellow zerg players.
Peter "Legionnaire" Neate Prior to qualifying for the WCS Australia Nationals, I didn't do anything except for playing on ladder. This was just an exercise to re-establish my mechanics. I just did a single build and tried to do it well. But since I qualified, I've started watching GSL and started learning the proper unit compositions. I still disagree with some of the game openings people do, but that's probably got more to do with my lack of knowledge, or lack of ability to pull it off.
David "Rossi" Rossi In the past, I've openly highlighted specific opponents that are intimidating; however I've adopted a new competitive mindset for the WCS Australia National tournament, whereby I should fear no one. I intend to do as well as possible at this event and will respect all opponents equally. If you think you can win, it shouldn't matter who your opponent is!
I know it's not ACLPro's fault, and the Tastosis effect is the cause of it, but it's a massive shame that only 300 people get to actually attend, when 10x this would easily come for Tastosis' visit to Sydney/Australia.
Hope the event is a success, but at this point it's too frustrating to even watch.

There are ten more tickets being given away today.
Too frustrating to even watch? Do you avoid watching MLG, GSL, IEM, Dreamhack and NASL because you can't attend in person? What about the WCS Global Finals? That's a silly attitude to adopt.
P.S. You could always come to the BarCraft Crucius mentioned earlier. People will be migrating there after the event has wrapped up.

I am nervous for the players and I will be 1000's of kms away watching it from the comfort of my own study. This is really overdue for Australia and believe the calibre of the players in this competition can mix it with some of the best. Although a little bias, I do believe this to be true, its just that the opportunities haven't been so readily available until now.
Have a leave pass from the wife for the streams locked in, and cant wait for the matches. Also very keen to see some of the new faces and their styles / performance on such a big scale.

Entry is at 10am Saturday morning. See you there!
Maybe 9:30 tickets don't specify a seat if you want somewhere good better be up front of the line haha. Does anyone know if the players or casters will be doing signings?

Hey. I've got nothing much to add other than good luck to all the players, spectators and event organisers! There's a lot of talent around this part of the world and I'm sure everyone involved will be putting in a huge effort to put Australian Starcraft on the map.
Hopefully they didn't pay to fly out casters. Given how few high profile SEA events there seem to be, it would be a shame if they spent thousands on flying out casters rather than giving the players more prize money.

of course they flew out the casters.. do you think tastosis would fly themselves to wcs oceania to cast because they love esports? couple thousand to blizzard is nothing anyway :o
also pig/mafia/rossi/tgun and light, yoonyj or rossi will take top 6 at australia

well true to a degree, and when u invite painuser/HD its like okay well they are decent casters but then when u put them next to tastosis it just makes them look so bad lol
anywho, anyone else loving that scoreboard/name overlay? :D

2x Rossi, no glade and no iaguz!!!!!!!!!! (ok ignore the fact I decided to lose all my games on purpose)

I know! For a long time I didn't use to be a big fan of HD, well of course I loved the HDH invitiational in the beta (still the best sc2 event to this date). But his more recent casts with painuser has just become better and better and better. so cozy, still informative, but personable also.

Good question, I was wondering that myself. I live down the road from the venue, which is a plus.
The website says the doors open at 9:45... pretty early! I wonder how many seats they have at the venue and if it will be a struggle getting a seat.
Website quote:
Doors will open to ticket holders on Saturday morning at 9am for everyone to line up in the venue, however the ticketing process will not begin until 9.45am.

Haha that was a pretty epic TvZ, even though I feel they both just drew it out and zerg gave it away in the passive mid-game. But I can't believe how long it took to just kill those last two hatches :D

Dude, he did build a reaper at one point. Although I think it was just a misclick.

Moonglade losing all his tech buildings and then not rebuilding them as they stalemated for ten minutes, then sacrificing his army and finally rebuilding the tech as he realised he couldn't build shit......was really really bad. Only matched by Knight not exploiting that timing opportunity (or one of the other dozens) .
Here's hoping Knight can make something happen in the lower bracket. There's a bit too much zerg Although I'm looking forward to the Pig-Moonglade rematch!

Painuser doesn't have his own PC in front of him to observe with he can only be shown what the observer (infeza, who is a fucking great observer) will show him. He can ask for one though, which is probably what he did.
Greatest event I have ever been a part of, I wish I could have watched from the crowd more. The 10 or so minutes I got to chill and sit in the crowd and watch from there was fucking epic I couldn't stop smiling. Words can't express what this event means to everyone involved and the Australian / New Zealand SC2 scene, and even though it was the biggest event we've ever seen in our country, I hope it's not the last!
Much love to HD, PainUser and of course Tasteless and Artosis for being perfect casters and awesome human beings.
