It's been some months since the dust settled from Korea's last fray into the North American Collegiate scene. Determined to show their skill, the Korean Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) reached out to challenge their North American collegiate counterparts, and the University of California Berkeley stepped up to the challenge. On July 10th, these two schools battled it out in a no holds barred best of 9 allkill match. KAIST drew first blood that day, and quickly jumped to a 3-0 lead. Bloodied but not yet deterred, UC Berkeley threw out their leader Conan "Suppy" Liu to hold the line against the Korean onslaught. Suppy proceeded to dismantle each and every opponent thrown at him, and in the end UC Berkeley proved their worth with a 5-3 victory over KAIST.
Stung by the defeat, the Koreans withdrew back to their own server...and bidded their time for their next offensive. Now, a new challenger has stepped up to the plate to avenge the honor of their fallen compatriots and assert their dominance. The Seoul National University eSports team, boasting the likes of TSL_Polt on their roster, have issued a challenge to the University of California Berkeley Starcraft 2 team. The Berkeley team is no small threat, headed by team leader and new Evil Geniuses member Suppy, and a strong corp of players behind his back. Yet even so, the task will be an immense one to overcome.
Once again the lines will be drawn on the battlefield, as the North American and Korean collegiate scenes clash once more.
Who will emerge victorious in this international clash of educational institutions? Hate to get this into some back and forth argument, but I think Polt should win because his TvZ is pretty strong, while Suppy's can be lacking sometimes.

Honestly Polt is just one player, I think as the KAIST showmatch showed the average Korean college player isn't necessarily at semipro/code B level and Suppy is definitely more than a match for them. Not everyone on the team is Polt. Also cross server lag and all that.
Really excited to see this, are you guys going to have a viewing party for this one? I keep wanting to go to CSL (E@B lol) stuff and I never end up showing up but this would be pretty cool to go to and there's a chance I might be free.
|
On September 13 2012 12:18 xrapture wrote: This has got to be the most onesided thing I've ever seen in my life.
We'll see, it'll depend a bit on whether Polt is actually on the lineup or not. KAIST wasn't actually that strong, and if I understand it correctly, SNU is not as big of a tech school as KAIST. At least in the US, generally the tech schools are the strongest in SC.
|
I actually don't know if Polt will be playing
|
Another contact from Korea. The captain of Seoul National University's esport team contacted me and asked to have a match between us. They said 'Polt'!! will also join. Suppy, did you get any msg or email from this guy? Anyway, let's do it!
|
lol poor berkeley, no chance at all if polts going to play
|
Haha if Polt is on the roster for SNU, they're just going to slaughter everyone in the CSL.
|
as a golden bear, i will root for california :D
|
Korean Universities should already be added in the CSL .
Also, They should try playing UNT since they are the defending champions and all.
On September 13 2012 13:23 IcedBacon wrote: Haha if Polt is on the roster for SNU, they're just going to slaughter everyone in the CSL.
Not true, because CSL isn't an all-kill format. Unless SNU has some other heavy hitters, having one solid player does not mean they would dominate. But these show-matches are different, OFC .

These kind of events would be so much more interesting without the all-kill format, imo. This is basically just a match between Polt and Suppy now :p

Where's the team rosters?

Wow this looks pretty cool. Definitely gonna watch. Wonder of Suppy will do a repeat!

depends on if Polt will really participate O_O!

Polt to bring it to 4-0, then Suppy reverse all-kill gogogo!!!!
Or so I dream :D

Wtf? That's like a whole pro team versus Suppy lol.

I dunno, I bet there's a Berkeley kid who can take out Polt. Besides Suppy, who himself has an okay chance.

He's solid. His style certainly benefited from the patch, but mostly he benefited from summer and practice time.

Well yeah but most people's conception of 'patchzerg' is letting players beat players out of their league. In Suppy's case I'd imagine he's just improvng a lot because he's actually able to play a bit more, got picked up by a team etc etc.

Suppy played a solid game. Very impressed with the way he defended the initial cloaked banshee and creep spread later on. Impeccable!

Suppy was a featured streamer when he was on checksix... before he joined EG
|
Are "patch zergs" still a thing? I thought we were hating on Protoss now? Suppy is good, he's beat several good players and had very close games against many others. Obviously latency/time/etc may have played a role into the game, but beating Polt is pretty freaking good.
|
|
Holy crap, no damn way O__O;;
You literally can't come up with a better ending than that (assuming a mild neutrality ). Best of 9 series, Polt is rolling and brings the scores to 4-all. Then Suppy finally comes out, and takes Polt himself down. Not bad at all, Suppy ^^
|
Even with the lag and patch included if you want to include them at all, nice job on suppy's end; can't deny it was clutch to pull the win.
|
So awesome to watch live, everyone went crazy. Suppy played amazing.

He's been on teamliquid for like half a decade, he was A in Brood War, it's pretty sad that people don't know who he is. It's just that he's been a full time (4.0) student so he never had time to practice, but during the summer he was able to actually practice full time and really kick up his skills to another level.
Man, I really wish I could have been there to see it happen but a friend randomly came back to Berkeley out of the blue to have dinner at 8PM as it happened. GGs everyone involved!

A was ridiculous in BW. Meant you were insane crazy good. A "B-player" would pretty much *never* take a game off an "A-player." Skip gaps were so much bigger....
