this should be a fun watch! not sure who to cheer for haha (i would cheer for an in-form DRG, but he looks a tad out of form, and oz was one of my fav players)
I've given up on predicting Oz, since he joined fnatic I'm not sure if he's good or bad he can follow up a mind blowing next protoss bonjwa performance with being worth less to fnatic than ares
Also, just so everyone knows this is the last LR for this OSL that I was going to do (or made stuff for for that matter), so the Semis and Finals are completely open to whomever.

coz Oz is a very adorable and charismatic player, you might have seen him in the post match appearances, truely a handsome little nerd.
Oz would take the personality vote in my book, but since him and fnatic are slumping so hard since a couple of weeks, this series should turn out rather one sided. Anyways will enjoy the "Oz smile" whatever would be the outcome.

But DRG is sexy and personality? DRG is probably second to MC. He speaks great English, probably the best of the Koreans that Ive seen. Also + Show Spoiler +

I like them both, but since Oz dropped out of GSL yesterday, I'll be rooting for him. Plus, he's at his best when he has to prepare for a sepcific opponent. I sure hope he comes over his slump/inconsistency/whatever.
I really hope that both players play well. But i think that one of them will keep playing terribly like they both have lately. It will probably be Oz but who really knows ... he could go back to being a wizard and stomp DRG.
I'd watch, but DOA and Moletrap can't compare to Tasteosis and I can't stand watching PvZ right now, I just find the matchup boring. DRG will take it 3-2, that's my guess.
wtf is this suboptimal opening for oz? he made inbase forge to make harder to scout if upgrades are going? You can easly nexus first on this map cross only
EDIT: I don't feel like drg throw game away. His 3base aggresion did no damage, delaying broodlord tech. By the time drg god broodlords, Oz got insane 3-2 stalkers with sentries (which he preserved till the end of game, which is impressing) and few collosus. Nice game from oz
And drg never got gas to rebuild infestors, which probably lost him game.
A good game IMHO, pretty much constant pressure by Oz, he hit the pre-hive timing and limited DRG's fourth, so that he had to basically choose between infestors or BL's.
I don't think DRG got Adrenal Glands. Look at how fast those Zerglings are attacking. I know he only started Greater Spire when the Hive finished, so I think he just forgot it entirely.

unless you don't mean a bad stream quality.
Really? I'm getting tons of lag, and it's not happening with any other stream :s
About the game, I feel like both players are playing kinda sloppy. Also DRG dropping 10+ infestors is unnessecary, a 4 infestor hit squad is enough to get the tech. Would much rather see him drop in 2-3 different locations.
On October 03 2012 20:38 Bahajinbo wrote: PvZ lategame... Still a joke.
I agree, but Oz should have ended the game ages ago with that timing. Protoss should never go to the lategame in PvZ without at least trying to end the game on a 2 base timing.
Okay, say what you like about the PvZ endgame being shit, but you can't take the win away from DRG. He stayed in the game despite losing his third, being down a huge amount of workers, taking damage the entire game...
It takes a lot of mental fortitude to stay in a game like that and eke out a victory, even if it was by taking advantage of poor game design on Blizzard's part. So hate the game, not the player.
Aaaaaand we have anti-climactic finish of kinda nice game Oz had cute idea of ruling zerg into top expansion to kill left one, but drg smartly didn't have all units in one control group and left few infestors for defense.
Fungal is so stupid that it makes you unable to disengage looks like every attack is allin.
Anyway i liked oz timing, and drg perfect roach movement to delay it. And army movement on daybreak in "split map" situation is very interesting, very good designed map for late game.
Yeah Oz played that quite well, but DRG was intelligent enough to smell the recall and do the perfect neural/fungal. And then, well then it's late game ZvP. I feel so bad for Oz here

and from what i remember they don't want to bring a balance patch before HotS.
Oracle gives a 5 second buff that immunizes units to Fungal (among other spells). Unfortunately, it doesn't solve the REAL problem, which is that in PvZ, deathballs are far stronger than smaller mobile forces. The only way to fix that is with units that forcibly break up deathballs (Vipers) and powerful AOE. The Viper is a great addition in that it offers a MAJOR nerf to deathball play, with Abduct stealing Colossi and Blinding Cloud putting the range of all Protoss units to 1. Unfortunately, there is no equivalent for Protoss. The Oracle makes your units less vulnerable to being picked off one by one, yes, but that doesn't address the Broodlord ball at all. The Tempest is supposed to be an anti-Broodlord unit, but at best all I can see it doing is forming another completely different deathball and turning Zerg strategy into "attack with Broodlords, kill him if he doesn't have enough Tempests, remax on Roach/Hydra and try to win". What Protoss needs is a seriously buffed Storm. Something that doesn't just tickle Broodlords, but actually threatens them in a huge way. Maybe give Storm doubled damage against Massive units? That would mean that it could be used in PvP as well, which would be pretty rad.
Roach all-ins pretty much always win now days because Protoss very rarely makes a second cannon unless they see something fishy, which is hard when your opponent has Zerglings.

Both Fungal and Vortex sux... Ruins the game imo...
Reworking core game balance? Better wait for SC3 then...
I think without fungal or with a lesser version of fungal, protoss armies and zerg armies would be able to fight on equal terms, which would remove the mandatory vortex requirement of protoss from the matchup.

What I don't understand about this map is why pro players just don't wall in the 3 building natural against 6 pool. You can do it on this map, so why not?

Nah you can't really do it properly. The risk is far too big.
The forge in the main is exactly for stuff like this. If there's an aggressive pool first, protoss doesn't even lose anything. A standard 6 pool vs FFE kills at least a pylon and a forge. Like this, Oz lost literally nothing.

Don't you think zerg would struggle in mid game against P without fungals or a lesser version of it? And don't forget ZvT. I think zerg needs fungals in the mid game there as well.
Also wouldn't you agree that in the round of 16 in GSL the big problem in late game PvZ were those 10 billion infested terrans and not the fungals? So if you change fungals there is still a problem with them.

edit: I KNOW he opened forge in main, but why so?
Yea, walling off with 3 buildings is the best way to deal with 6 Pool if the map allows it. Putting the Forge in your main allows you to keep your Forge out of the Zerg's sight so they don't know when you get +1. I think getting the Forge on the low ground is a better idea on this map though.
Been following OSL for many many years now, and this is by far the worst..(not only because its starcraft2) But because the quality of the stream is horrible. I have yet to see a livecast that doesn't lag like hell. And the casters are just yea.. horrible :S

That would actually be pretty interesting. Rain looking so good, but MC's PvP hasn't been too bad of late.

Korean stream doesn't lag, doesn't have "horrible" casters... just for future so you can enjoy your osl.

I have a feeling that would end up being a repeat of the Seed vs. MC GSl finals which would be terrible. I hope DRG beats MC because I don't see Last beating Rain.

OSL games were really good today, it's just that SC2 people don't know or care about it very much. Also most people prefer GSL casters and OSL often has stream problems, as in the stream isn't running smoothly. Had that problem again today, although not all the time.

All in all OGN needs to step up on the overall production value (english stream) if they want to compete with GOM for the foreign viewers.
Sigh, I wish that this and GSL were on at seperate times...
Tuned in after Code S finished and it seems fairly good now, plus the semi final match ups are amazing, I really really hope GSL and OSL semi finals don't clash...
Rain vs Last and Rain vs MVP, plus MC vs DRG, with hopefully Leenock vs MKP, oh my.

I think they are launching OGN HD in the new year (IIRC OGN still broadcasts in SD), so with a bit of luck that will increase the video quality.
The actual production quality is higher for OSL than GSL, the problem is the stream quality - especially the English stream.

I was thinking the same thing, why's this?
In terms of sc2, GSL is the more established league right now. Plus things already mentioned, poor stream, less popular casters, longer break between games. 1 Bo5 instead of 2. Plus you had Rain, Mvp, HerO whom probably have the Top 10 fan bases in the world out of the Koreans. DRG is up there as well but Oz's results recently haven't been great.
now I know why you guys have so many posts... after only doing 4 LR's I added almost 100 posts. Just a reminder again to people, I have not been working on making the semis or the finals LR's.

tbh, from what I've seen, GSL is ahead of OSl on production, and that is disregarding stream quality, lack of VOD accessability and overall shitty English support.
Disregarding the casters / stream issues on the English stream of OSL, production for OSL is definitely better. The way the studio is setup, the camera shots of players / audience, the post match analysis / interviews are all excellent. This is even more apparent if you compare PL vs GSTL; the free stream quality from OGN is also a lot better than GSL's is.
Does anyone know the domestic viewing figures for this seasons OSL so far? Has there been a big drop due to the switch to SC2? Have the figures remained steady or increased? Have the Korean BW fans remained onboard or are they drifting away?

I agree. Unfortunately, casters/stream smoothness probably outweighs all the other factors that you listed. Lagging stream is probably the worst thing that can happen for something like this.

Have you ever consider, maybe they don't want to compete for foreign viewers, they just want to anchor Korean fans, cable subscription numbers are what they concern. The only thing OGN did on foreign scene over last decade is the OSL final in China.

Casters, commercials and video quality, lag issue are all different for those two streams, let alone TV channel. Commercials are important, without commercials, everything seems weird, particularly with the long break.
The only same thing is in game action, and that has not much to do with OGN's production quality.
I would love it if Moletrap or Doa could talk to OGN and show them what they have been charging people for. It's quite insulting to pay for OSL VODs, and what you get is such terrible lag (on production side, not buffering) that is barely watchable. Honestly I don't think I can explain how horrible it is, you just have to watch it. And it surely isn't getting any better from day to day either.
Any respectable company would refund all the subscribers, or giving a ticket for next season as compensation for not actually giving the product that is advertised. I'm not holding my breath though.
