The time has come for our thirty-sixth IGN Pro League Fight Club! This is a weekly king of the hill showmatch series. Basically, there will be a 1 vs. 1 best of 9 showmatch each and every week, where the winner will earn a $500 prize and a $100 bounty on their head. For example, if a player wins three weeks in a row they will have earned $1,500 and a $300 bounty. If a NEW challenger defeats him, they will earn $500 for the showmatch, take the $300 bounty home, and have a new $100 bounty placed on their head for each week that they win.
When: Monday, Oct 08 11:00pm GMT (GMT+00:00) (we will also broadcast the match repeatedly afterwards!)
This may as well be named the HyuN showmatch series as TSL's HyuN has now won eight weeks running against an incredible lineup of opponents including IPL4 winner, aLive, and the IPL4 runner-up, Squirtle and most recently GSL Semifinalist and GSTL standout FXO.GuMiho. The next player to try to prove himself against HyuN is ByuN.Prime, who hopes to claim the $500 and $800 bounty!
I think ByuN should lose this, he is facing against HyuN's good MU, and ByuN hasn't been the most dominant Terran recently. Also, this is the Tyler Durden Zerg's playground, so he has the momentum and comfortability advantage.
Realistically though I do slightly favour hyun just because byun's an amazing TvZ player but the issue is byun is really late game oriented past his funky early game builds, that's the direct opposite of hyun who screams "FUCK HIVE TECH I GOT BANELINGS" and byun's ability to defend the big mid game timings has been somewhat of a weak spot for the byunjwa. He'll still win 5-0 because he's god.

I don't know what the finally is about, was Squirtle not a great opponent, is not Alive a good player? Gumiho and Tear were two MVP type players, (semi accidental pun) for FXO's GSTL winning team. Crank is a very solid Korean who could be on the rise. I fail to see how people can see his streak and find it to be anything less than impressive, especially when players such as MKP, Taeja, Violet, MC, JJakji, Polt, Ryuung, Coca, Hero, and Creator have all played in this format and haven't been able to win more than 3 in a row at best
The battle of two amazing online players. - Hyun very succesful in this format and other online cups (playing a lot of european) - Byun the korean ladder monster
I don't think that Byun is really doing bad lately. Since his semifinal loss vs Seed he hasnt played a lot and faced top opponents. He was eliminated in GSL by By.Rain only, facing him twice in the group (winning loser match vs Genius). By.Rain is now onwing everyone else too. His only other game was a GSTL loss vs Symbol.
The recognition he has gained from fight club, the momentum he has from winning consecutively, and the prize money he earns each week (perhaps his biggest source of income currently) ... Hyun is probably too motivated to lose to most players.

lol, these past 2 months, $500 a week, that's 2k income a month. That's more than the salary of vast majority of pro sc2 players.

If you're using the android app for twitch.tv in 226p mode then that can't be helped, that's just how 226p is
i guess this is the weakness of the very greedy builds terrans have been doing lately. imagine if it was a triple CC into cloak (which is also very popular)

I think what HyuN is doing well recently is occasionally mixing in a Roach Rush, and it works well 90% of the time because of modern TvZ builds that are too greedy. HyuN knows TvZ well enough to know to that RR works very well against Terran.
On October 09 2012 08:53 PhoenixVoid wrote: Oh wow ByuN, that was a terrible defence.
What would you have recommended he do with two Hellions and two Marines vs. 11 Roaches?
The game was already over.
yeah because he went for quite a gimmicky build, if he played safe he woulda pulled off a good defence.
It wasn't gimmicky at all, it was almost standard. There is basically no middle ground for Terran right now - you either play a cheese or hyper greedy because of how little you can do to keep a Zerg "honest",
But my real point was that the game was over when the players picked their builds and Byun's defence had nothing to do with it.
I really feel ground viking should be something to look at for HotS. There' so much potential for the transformation, but right now it's just a way to harass sometimes.
Starving the Zerg but playing really Tank light. Just. . .weird.
I guess Byun has just identified Hyun being overly aggressive and overly confident in his economy late game so he knows he can hold cost inefficient attacks and then win? I don't know.

Nah, he's doing this as an opening to punish greedy hellion players

You are complaining about HyuN recognizing that RR'ing is the way to punish greedy Terrans? A win is a win.
Hyun has never gone worse than 5-3, so I'll give Byun one more win since he's pretty damn good, but he won't get any more than that. If Hyun really wins the thing again, please do some ZvZs next.
so uhhhh infestors and broodlords are pretty good? once zerg gets that army you can't count them out of the game no matter what happened before. Its like the game completely resets.
Lol... Zerg takes lots of damage and still manages to pull off an amazing win like this as soon as the Brood Lords came out... Yup need to play more Zerg and less Terran.

HyuN kept his composure. ByuN didn't know what to do with his lead.
Nothing race orientated about it.
Lol, what did Byun do wrong, he was dropping the entire time, keeping some forces at the third for counter attacks, and pushing.
Kept some forces?
He constantly kept 30 supply worth of army at his third. That is NOT to deny counter attacks but more-so a nasty habit some T's tend to develop in which they try send smaller armies out and get cost effective engagements to compensate for the smaller supply loss. This works about as much as it doesn't when up against a player who knows how to pick engagements/angles a la Hyun.
His harass was good but what good is harass when you're simultaneously allowing him to stabilize?
Not once did we see Byun transition to a anti-hive army. Whilst Hyun stabilized and teched to hive. 9/10 Byun would have lost that because of silly errors.

This post has so much bullshit in it I shouldn't even answer, but here goes the news : we cant hotkey units that are just being made, like zergs can simply hotkey eggs, this is not a "nasty habit" that terrans have, we have to rally units somewhere, unlike zerg players.

lmao. i am aware of race mechanics. my point being is that keeping 30 supply of army hauled up at the third to deny 'counter attacks' is so counter intuitive i don't even know where to begin. byun needed more of that 'anti-counter attack defense' with his main army if he planned on dealing any kind of crippling damage before hive. He didn't and he refused to tech to anti-hive. it's really his own fault, the resources were definitely there (4k + 4 base gas)

if they'd break the "no ZvZ" rule, Curious, Life, Sniper, etc would all be fine.
Is this actually a rule, or do they just avoid zvz? I was thinking that at this point, its almost gonna take a nestea+life combo if one fails to bring Hyun down.

I think it states in the IPL FC rules "No mirror MUs"
Oh, and I thought of a list of Protosses that HyuN could face next week: IMFirst IMSeed IMYongHwa SlayerS_Alicia TSLinori (for the lulz)
How epic would it be if IPL sets Polt (or Flash) as the tenth Fight Club to see if HyuN is worthy of passing onto the legendary ten kill club in IPL FC?

Stop being awesome Hyun! You're making it boring, what with the fact that predicting the winner is so easy these days. Anyways, anyone know a terran left in the tournament that they could ship out next week to beat Hyun? Byun is an absolute practice monster, feared by top Code S players, so if he can't beat Hyun, what terran left can? MVP has GSL, Marineking is out, Taeja is out, most of the premier SlayerS terrans are either out or slumping and so on and so on. I mean, it's almost incomprehensible that a player could be so good at a KotH tournament that the organizers are literally running out of players that they can send against him that would be anything but a free win. I'm just stupefied that someone could actually be that good and not have several Code S titles under his belt.

I can't believe Seed hasn't played yet. He's absolutely the best choice for taking down Hyun as he has the best PvZ in your list. Yonghwa is a decent option too but First, Alicia and inori would probably get stomped.
I think it would be unfeasible to get MVP, Rain or Life considering their big matches coming up in the GSL and OSL.
A suitable next opponent I think would be Seed, Yonghwa, First, Keen, or finale. And if the IPL FC would break its no ZvZ rule there are a lot of solid zerg players like Leenock, Symbol, Curious, Sniper, and Monster.

Polt could take him out but I think he already played in IPL fight club
I just have to say.. holy shit hyun is on an absolute terror. It's not like we can make excuses for this run.. beating some of the best koreans in these huge series FOR MONEY on the KR server.. is SICK. Mad props.
Oh for shit's sake, they need to stop messing around now. Bring in the big guns! And by big guns, I mean the snipers. That'd be Seed or Life, probably.
I didn't get to watch the games, were they any good? Did Byun actually but up a fight, or was it more of the one-sided beatdown we've come to expect from Hyun in FC?
HyuNstoppable! Yeah I think a ZvZ or someone like Seed is needed. Because no matter at what time on what server and even if its for a measly 75 bucks as long as its online HyuN ist taking yo monies!!!
The bounty on Hyun's head is rediculous now. There should be lots of motivation to beat him. I think Hyun winning this much is actually good for FC. It makes me come back every week to watch him win. Keep it up IPL <3

You arent giving Sson enough credit, I wouldnt be surprised if he makes it really close or even wins.
People that aren't big names don't randomly beat high Code S level players in a best of 9. Heck, most players without a big name don't even beat top foreigners in a best of 9.

I'll have to take your word for it lol. No useful info on Liquipedia, isn't in MvP invitational, has no TLPD thingy for SC2, fan club OP doesn't talk about major wins like that and so on and so on. I'll admit, he did rack up some impressive wins against kespa players a few months ago, but that was against kespa players a few months ago. Furthermore, Flash isn't the Flash of Broodwar (yet). He's undeniably good, but also undeniably mortal. So, Sson has a chance. That's the best I can say, though. I just can't see Sson doing as good as players like Gumiho or Byun, who still failed to beat Hyun. I simply can't. EDIT: I found him in TLPD. He's under his old name, M18M, for whatever reason. Anyways, sketchy info there as well. His results do not precisely inspire confidence in his ability to beat a top Code S level player. Of course, with that small of a sample size, I could make Rain look like a noob. Still, I can't see Sson beating Hyun.

Very unlikely, seeing that Sson has done little beyond transition to SC2 and play in a foreign team. I doubt he has been facing against top Code S level players like HyuN, nor has LighT given him the opportunity for such opportunities beyond the Korean ladder. Sure, Sson has a chance, but how good are the chances against a player with a 73% win rate versus Protoss playing on his home turf? I would be surprised to see Sson take even one game off HyuN tbh.
