It's season 2 and things have changed. We've had some condensing of regions from 8 down to 4, the "Swiss style" of tournament is gone, and we've switched from our friends over at Z33k.com over to CSN's bracket system. So without skipping a beat, look below!
When October 20, 2012
Start time Northeast & Southeast @ 12p ET(noon) Northwest & Southwest @ 12p PT(noon)
Check-ins? You are 1 hour(11a) before tournament start for each region up until 10 minutes prior to start. Players will be required to enter and remain in chat channels during the event. The chat channels are named according to region. spgl northeast spgl southeast spgl northwest spgl southwest
Map Pool There are 7 maps in the map pool. TSL4 Daybreak TSL4 Cloud Kingdom TSL4 Antiga Shipyard TSL4 Metropolis TSL4 Ohana TSL4 Entombed Valley Rust in Peace
All maps are cloaked except for Rust in Peace.
The official rules are being updated on the website, but check the spoiler for all your needs. + Show Spoiler +Tournament/Group Play 1) All participants must represent themselves and play in a region they are a current resident of. College players will use their home state as residence when selecting the region to compete in. 2) If a player is late by 15 minutes to a game without getting an OK from both his opponent and a tournament official, that player’s series will be forfeited. 3) All tournaments will be played in a Bo3 double elimination style except for 1st and 3rd place matches which will both be done as a Bo5 series. 4) If your games are in the lower bracket and are at least 2 rounds behind, a 5 minute break max is allowed. Anything longer without consent of an official will result in a forfeit of the series. 5) Extended breaks may be taken pending estimated game time and clearance from the tournament official. Players should remain close by their PC in case contact must be made. 6) Tournaments WILL NOT use the extended series rules. However, the 1st place match will award a 1-0 advantage to the player that remained in the upper bracket. 7) Maps will be chosen from the current map pool and ONLY from the current map pool when deciding play. If there is an issue in the map pool (such as maps being no longer supported), officials will make an announcement stating the change. 8) No map may be repeated in the same series. 9) Players may only compete in the tournaments which they have been signed-up for, or invited to. 10) No observers, other than those permitted by a tournament official, may join a tournament game as a spectator. 11) Players must set themselves to Busy while playing. 12) Streaming of tournament play is allowed unless a player is being casted. Doing so will result in a warning for the first offense, and a loss of series for the second offense. Penalties do not carry over from tournament to tournament. I strongly encourage players who stream to direct viewers to watch via the tournament stream. -This is not to harm player’s income, but to help us continue to provide higher quality production, as well as support our sponsors. 13) In the issue of “Bad Manners” (BM): please take a screen shot of the BM and notify an official or admin only. Tournament officials will handle Bad Manner issues and the resulting consequences. Do not publicly post the incident. Advertising BM publicly may result in similar disciplinary actions. 14) If you have hardware or lag issues, let an official know. Rulings will be handled based on the extremity of the issue. 15) Players are to follow all instructions from tournament officials unless plausible reasons are given. 16) Race swapping is not allowed. However, players are allowed to change their main race between tournaments. 17) If your game is being casted, an admin will notify you. Notify the admin of your first map choice and they will create the game so that all necessary people are in the match. The admin will continue to create each game. 18) If a player has reason for a dispute against the rules, email drogith@nesc2league.com within 24 hours. The dispute will then be reviewed by all officials, and a vote taken. You will then be informed of the outcome. If there is any change made, it will be announced to the public
Map Selection
1) In tournaments, the top player on the bracket is considered the higher seed. This is random seeding unless past matches prove otherwise. 2) In group play, the top player in the group is considered the higher seed. This is completely random initial seeding. 3) In a Bo3, both players veto a single map. a) Players take turns eliminating maps until one map is left starting with higher seed. b) Loser chooses next map. c) Vetoed maps can not be chosen. 4) In a Bo5, no maps are vetoed. a) Players take turns eliminating maps until one map is left starting with higher seed. b) Loser chooses next map.
All of the players represented in these lists has competed and placed high in one of the premier tournaments in season 1, or they were lucky enough to be in a low pop area and have moved up. Awesome! I can't wait to play against everyone when do the brackets get released?

Should be today after I get home from work. The way the list is written is the current ranking for each region. So if you know how to fill a bracket to put 1 up top and 2 down bottom, you can see the brackets ahead of time.
Also, I have received more than one PM about people not being able to play. That is alright. In the scheme of things that would put you as ranking low in the tournament. That could demote you down to the Main Tier for season 3, but that is also invite status. To alleviate this issue, I'm looking into being able to schedule and do matches during the week, but that requires staff being able to do this and that's not possible atm.

If we placed highly in the regional qualifiers do we have to participate in the event on the 20th? Also, the event on the 3rd of November conflicts with MLG, if If I wanted to participate would I have to play in that event also? I'm just a little confused as to how the system works and if previous season standings carry over or not. >.< Thanks Drogith!

Gogo SPGL, ghlf to all the players.
|
I'm glad you brought that up. The top players in the Swiss event, or at least those that were active, were invited to the relegation (Up/Down) matches to see who was moving up to Premier, and who was moving down to or staying in the Main tier. Only 6 people accepted the invite that was sent out and JonSnow was one of them. http://www.z33k.com/games/starcraft2/leagues/8659-spgl-season-1-advancement/groups I moved them all up automatically because of it.
Now, if we had enough population to do 8 regions still, you would have moved up no problem. But since we had to cut down to 4, I even had to push people out of premier that would have normally made the cut to fit higher ranking players. In all honesty, we almost cancelled the season a few times due to the lack of players and the horrendous results of doing the Swiss Style events.

If you are talking the Regionals from last season, then yes, you must compete on the 20th. If you can't make it, the worst that can happen is you get dropped down to the Main tier for the start of 2013. Thank you for the heads up about the 3rd, I will see what can be done to move that and no, you won't be able to compete in that event. That event is for the Main tier where placing high can move you up to the Premier tier for 2013.
As for rankings, they do carry over to an extent. I tried as best I could to combine the highest ranking players from the 8 previous regions and condense them down to 4.
Imagine 3 steps in front of you and they each have a name: Open (bottom), Main (middle), Premier (top). The better you do in each event (top 8), you can take a step up. If you do bad in a event (bottom 8), you will take a step down. You only compete on the step you are currently on for each season. Hope that helps fix confusion.
|
Ok no problem Drogith. Good luck with the event.
|
I told Drogith that you could have my spot if you were still interested, since you did have the best record in that group.

Were there qualifiers for this or was it just invites from last season? How can a new player break into this league?
I'd love to at least attempt to qualify for this.

I'd love to at least attempt to qualify for this. The qualifiers for this were carry over from last season. If you did not compete before, in December is the Open tier event. Any player can enter that event. Top 8 from that tournament move up into the Main tier.

There are no signups for the current tournament as it is invites from season 1. In December, is the open tournament where you can start competing to get involved in the SPGL. Signups will likely be in late November for that tournament.

You qualified based on your placement in season 1. You are ranked 3rd in the NE region atm.

Looking forward to seeing how the combined regions play out. More top players crammed into less overall regions should make for really interesting matches.

Map pool has been selected and is as follows:
TSL4 Daybreak TSL4 Cloud Kingdom TSL4 Antiga Shipyard TSL4 Metropolis TSL4 Ohana TSL4 Entombed Valley Rust in Peace
All maps are cloaked except for Rust in Peace and can be found in custom games, not Arcade. I had other maps selected, but they are not cloaked as far as I have found. If anyone know how to do so and can help me out, shoot me a PM so I can get cloaked versions of different maps. Until then.

Yes. Always fun to play the 3 person map. I just wish there was a cloaked version.

They did have a decent reason though. Goswser is in the Iron Squid Qualifiers, while Dime is in a team league. It sucks that they had to leave, but all they were playing for is seeding. Although that means Goswser will probably play KillerUnit in the first round of nationals.

Kind of disorganized tournament - I think you guys should have an email list or better way of notifying players that they have matches. It's 100% my own fault for no-showing, but it would have been nicer to get some kind of reminder to add the event to my calendar at least. Only messages I've received since the last tournament and this one was a message telling me to make a CSN account (which I had already done and used before :/ ).

There were several messages that went out over the z33k forums but there was something, a glitch or error of some sort, where less than half the people got their messages. I have another excuse, but that's all it is, and excuse and not a good enough reason. Either way, you are right that there needs to be a better contact method regardless of the brackets system we use. Native communication is great, but when something breaks, it breaks.

PMs and emails have gone out to all 8 of the players taht will be participating in the Nationals... except xoPulse, we can't find his TL name.
