How they got here Maru defeated EffOrt 2-1 and asd 2-0 JYP fell from the Ro16 Code S mini defeated NaNiwa 2-0 and Flash 2-1 Curious fell from the Ro16 Code S Terminator defeated SuHoSin 2-0 and Shine 2-0 Polt fell from the Ro16 Code S RorO defeated AcE 2-0 and Ryung 2-0 DongRaeGu fell from the Ro16 Code S
Also: Interesting how every single Code A player that didn't fall from Code S is playing in a matchup they are yet to play this season. And only terminator after tonight won't have played all 3. Ty for data shellshock

Should be good.
Looks like a good storyline
Too bad that DRG will be excused if he loses because he was busy practicing for OSL.
Beside being PvZ, mini vs Curious should be interesting. Also JYP vs Maru should be good. JYP has shown pretty solid PvT recently, now he has to confirm against Maru. If Maru plays as well as MKP or Mvp during code S RO16, it will be hard for JYP, yet JYP was able to take a game over the latter.

The real test for him will be the OSL finals anyway.
So I was just trying to play some 3v3 games to have a little fun and I now know that 4 am is not a good time to be on ladder. Immature BM'ers as far as the eye can see. At least this is on now.
Code A has been brutal for Code S players so far this season (Kespa players has a lot to do with it but some have been taken out by eSF Code A/B players as well). Will see if the trend continues tonight.

That's good. That means the level of play has been elevating recently.

Yes, the level has always been increasing. But with the Kespa players, it has been kicked into overdrive. There are quite a few series that you couldn't tell if it was Code S or A. Although there were some 'bad' series as well but you get those in Code S sometimes.

It was really cute and I think it was an even trade at the end. Maru is really good at hiding what he does. Poor JYP didn't know a thing until his Observer came out.
Looks like JYP is going 2-base colossus-allin now.

No it was posted here and in OSL at the same time yesterday.
I wonder who gives up first: that guy or TL. For TL giving up would mean doing something to stop him from posting that they don't really want to (like not allowing images for people under 50 posts)
JYP getting outclassed hard despite Maru's mistakes...just playing so safe and turtley but no real plan...just expanding and wants to abuse lategame warp ins or something?
That seems like too many ghosts. What is he going to do with them in the actual battle? Only needs 4-5 EMPs to coat the army... I guess he's probably going to try to snipe the obs.

Yeah, seen this before from a few other Terrans, not sure if it's that good tbh. Cloaked ghosts + no obs = lots of impossible to kill units.

You know what's worse than having a bad matchup? Having a bad matchup for a while, working hard on it to make sure that it's not that much of a problem anymore, largely succeeding, and still having 80% of your fanbase being snarky about it whenever you lose in the matchup.

The main problem was that he was caught out of position pretty often. He was forced into bad engagements by Maru. JYP has to work on his positional play.
Ok, well I don't want to watch a PvZ, so I'm going to go shower. Hopefully I return and Curious does the Curious staple of winning so long as it's not Ro16 in a tournament.
But I can't watch PvZ nowdays. It goes to lategame far too much, and you can read through almost any page of the OSL semi to get a gist of that.
Actually. When I was looking at JYP's base, rather than carpet nuking his front, wouldn't a more intelligent decision to have been to send 4 ghosts into the main in a medivac and carpet nuke his production?

you think his harass was great? You must see By,Rain's play. You will know how JYP lost
So because JYP is not able to harass as well as Rain, it should mean it was bad ? Rain is basically so good that he gets a such an advantage from the early game and everyone knows it's easier to harass when you're far ahead. JYP had some nice bank but was not that far ahead.

I think he is good for code A but not for code S. So I am not surprised that he lost to Maru. In addition, in round16, Heart and JYP are the weakest code S.
JYP was totally outplayed there. But I do think there are Protosses who can deal with the pressure better than JYP and put on constant harass on their own while defending. JYP only used a storm drop, when the game was basically over. And there is not so much terran can do about that, since they are lacking anti ground static defence. well played by Maru and he is definately ahead of JYP in terms of play and skill, but I don't see this working against higher protoss players.

He's a good hive player but he's an incredibly aggressive player, too. I'd say the main reason he hasn't broken the RO8 is that his style can be countered if you spend the time to analyse/prepare for it correctly.

Maybe Curious is learning from Life a little bit? The opposite seemed to be true since Life's macro notably improved after joining ST. I'd love to see Curious include more aggressive games like that, I basically equated Broodlords to Curious as his only way of playing PvZ.

"Personally, I don't Curious is that good. I have more confidence in my PvZ than PvT anyways so I think it'll be an easy victory for me. That's why I think I'll take this one easily."
The battle at the 3rd was at least a little tense, but still, it's not really so much fun to see someone lose just because he does a ton of obvious mistakes. Not saying that I could do it better but stilll, mini looks very weak here.
sounds like Curious' final code A match last season, where creator massively derped haha. maybe it's the Curious RO24 curse, where his opponents just fail

Not even same econ level, Curious had his 3rd up and mining all that time, and then after the all in failed, he got it up again way before Mini started his.

Unfortunately prominent community members set an example early in SC2, so now balance whines are okay, regardless of the actual situation.

Storms don't do much if all your zealots are dead already since the medivacs can heal up the bio. It is the storm + zealot/stalker dps which just kills bio before they can be healed.
So out of the 20 people qualified for code S before seeds and up and downs, we have six protoss, seven terrans and six zerg, plus another protoss or terran from tomorrow (where there will be only one non-mirror match).

Polt did exactly what he needed to do, let his army do maximum dps and let the medivacs heal to power down the Protoss army before the momentum shifted back into Terminator's favor, good Terran players know when to not over micro.
Wow. All tosses have lost so far. That's interesting. Only in GomTV apparently. Anyway, I wonder if DRG is ready for a ZvZ. Somehow, I feel as if he's gonna come in underestimating Roro.

This. I don't think Polt was showboating at all. That medivac support was enough to negate the damage done by the storms. He had to maintain the dps.

Yes. Infestors, spine crawlers and brood lords. All these things are really really poorly designed and combined they ruin all the fun.
I went from liking zerg the most to hating most things that its involved with in a relatively short span of time. T_T
I agree. I used to offrace as zerg for fun (I play protoss) and I used to LOVE PvZ because of how multitasking heavy the lategame was. Now when I play zerg, I don't even go to hive and I absolutely despise PvZ.

Ghosts were nerfed because Snipe destroyed Zerg T3 instantly, not because they could handle everything.

Unfortunately Blizzard is left with no easy solution surrounding infestors, because it's their "cheat" to make this game balanced. Without the versatility infestors provide Zerg cannot hope to beat Protoss.
µRoro unleash all his infested terrans very quickly and at once, that's how he wins those battles. DRG spawns less IT and more spaced in time, so when the megamass IT of Roro is spawned, everything just insta die and DRG's µIT are useless.

I think DRGs infestors got fungalled while trying to run forward to drop terrans. Thus they sit there doing nothing for the crucial beginning of the battle.
When DRG was up 2 bases he should just have pushed non stop and just chocked Roro with superior econ and unit production, no idea why he waited so long ><
DRG was not able to use his infestors as well as Roro did. He had allways tons of energy on his infestors in the battle he lost while they sat there, doing nothing. his infestor control was not on point, he just didn't spend the energy he had build up, and then he lost... :o

Not saying that PvP is much better but at least there's more micro and variety early/midgame. And colossus wars are much more positional. Not even gonna mention that sometimes you see brood lords vs brood lords.
And the fact that you can never attack into the other player if he has spines & infestors.
When are up&downs? roro played epic for sure, but I wouldn't be surprised if DRG just committed 190% to practicing for OSL PvZ finals and came into this match cold, hoping to bust out of the U&D if he failed here.

The one-two base section of ZvZ is definitely better than PvP. The lategame is basically the same as far as levels of enjoyment. Collosus shoot lasers. Eggs get spawned. The audience just raises an eyebrow and waits for the dust to settle because you can't see a thing.

You don't really prepare that much for ZvZ for sure not when you already are a veteran of Korean ZvZ.

I think the reason its always on Saturday is because then most people can watch it live, EU people don't have to work/go to school, and I'm not sure about NA but I think its in the middle of the night?
Either way, this way it ensures that the most people can watch it live.

Positionally, it might have been intriguing. But the indistinguishable spamming of eggs just makes it unwatchable since we can't really tell how the battles are proceeding. That is assuming there's tactical egg throwing differences that could be seen in the first place.
I knew we would hit this point some day, threads have more posts complaining about disliking the game than anything else. It's not anyone's fault either, because they are legitimate complaints.

Hope Mvp takes it though.
Mvp will win, there is 2 curses playing against Life atm.
1st - He is from Startale, they have I believe 12 or 13 second places by now. 2nd - He has been dominant throughout the season, all the really dominant players who reached the finals always lost this year, Genius, Squirtle and MC.

I would find them more fun if they were more watchable.
The early micro wars are great, and I don't mind the positional games when Roro is turtling...but when engagements are blobs of green coating everything and a ton of barely distinguishable units firing back and forth against each other (especially when on creep) you can't even tell what the fuck is happening half the time until after someone has won/lost the engagement.

It is getting kinda dull.. but for I actually didn't tab out of the Maru vs JYP or DRG vs RorO series once, which means alot, since useally I just tab in and out of the stream.

I agree 100%, I had to watch the supply count to figure out who was winning, although by the end I just guessed RorO since he won pretty much every engagement of the series.

ZvZ can be one of the most interesting match ups in starcraft or completele boredom. It depends on player's decision making. You can play totally mind fuck zvz game and get away with it unlike any other ZvX match up. It is the only match up that zerg can utilize their early game prowess or use certain mind tricks that generally does not work 90% of time in other match ups (the macro openings in ZvP and ZvT, make it more stagnated, so less non-standard play is allowed).

Couldn't agree more. I really liked what Nony said about the difference between Brood War and SC2. He said that units in BW were ridiculously overpowered but it was balanced because every race had super overpowered stuff. SC2 is absolutely lacking that. The design of infestors makes every attack a commitment and that's just a horrible idea in general. I'm not a fan of forcefield and even concussive shells for that reason. You should be able to pull back when you think a battle is not going your way. Currently? You just won't attack into infestors until you're 100% sure you'll win the fight.
On October 17 2012 21:28 Waxangel wrote: DRG CONSTANTLY failed to cast even 50% the number of Roro's infesteds, despite having similar mana
No it wasn't that. DRG's infesters pumped as many balls as Roro's, sometimes more, but the deciding factor in both games was that position of Roro's hydras was much better and Roro was winning in upgrade battle.

Thanks for your constructive criticism. I do however not care about what you want or don't want so I'm just not gonna change at all. I think the game is awesome. But I also think it could be a LOT better if blizzard were to consider changing things up. If a game wasn't fun to watch in my opinion, I'm gonna say that it wasn't fun in my opinion. What's wrong with that? Not like I force my opinion on anybody. If you wanna discuss, I'm happy to do so. If not, move along.

Strangely I see that half of your recent posts seem to be cussing on people expressing dissatisfaction on something happening in the game.
Guess what, people here want to love SC2, sometimes things here gets us fustrated, and with good reason to. You aren't the only opinion in the world.

First 3 series no good, but last series is epic.
What he means to say is that the first series was epic, but still clearly a whitewash. Second and third were white washes. Fourth a Kespa player won. Was just frustrating to watch as a DRG fan. Probably ok to watch as a Roro fan. So I only recommend it if you like roaches and infestors.
Yessssssssss polt fighting! Glad to see esf players stepping up. Poor drg but maybe he's more focused on his osl final and figured he could make it out of up downs.
I don't really see how the OSL would've affected DRG like many of you say. He didn't lose against prepared strategies, but rather got owned every engagement despite having better army composition most of the time. Which is kind of weird, since you'd expect the newer Kespa players to be better at early game/micro but worse late-game management where they lack experience. It just seemed like Roro was winning all the clashes when conventional wisdom would suggest he'd lose them.
Anyway, great that Polt made it and overall all the protosses lost. Got sick of PvPs after WCS Asia. And Roro's 6-0 stomp through Code A makes it clear he should've been Kespa's Code S seed last season instead of Jaedong.

It does matter, when you start bitching about game design and all that bullshit in lr threads it just ignites a pointless circlejerk that helps nobody and just annoys everyone who either disagree with you or just want to discuss the games. If you want to vent your opinions you should do it in a place that doesn't make you piss off other people, ie. a personal blog
LR threads used to be fun, then the balance whiners came along and then the game design whiners came afterwards and just shat on everything, no wonder you don't find the game fun when you spend the whole duration of a code A broadcast jerking off about how much you hate everything. It's the equivalent of me going to a football game and spending the whole time yelling to people next to me how stupid the rules are and how shit the game is to watch, nobody would fucking do that, so why are you doing it now

Also, Flash and a majority of the Kespa league players seem to lack a great deal of experience. Flash kept using the same build vs Protoss on Ohana during this invitational which clearly shows that he hasn't quite got a grasp on every map against every match up. Also, I will keep that bolded quote documented; that way when Flash "eventually" wins code S, I will be there to rub your that statement in your face.

I tend to agree with you here, I have no idea of seing who did the better engagement without looking at the supply numbers. RoRo obviously knows how to engage maxed armies, slaughtering DRG twice, so there probably is some finer points that DRG is missing.

Just a question: Did you actually not find those ZvZs entertaining because I was very engaged through both games. Non stop action and very high level play from both players. Maybe it is just taste but I like exciting games as opposed to long games where both player sit in their base for thirty minutes (any matchup with Protoss).

Its funny because Kespa has 1 good Toss and 1 good Zerg and that somehow makes them better then the many good ESF Toss and Zerg players.
