Stephano was certainly the favorite out of him and Hero and their record against each other proves it. Whether that is because of current balance or raw skill, thats up to you to decide. But that final game where Hero took the series, if you look closely you can see that Stephano had at least 2 hints that the colossus were hallucinated.
1) The final Colossus "hit" on Stephano's 4th Hatchery in the middle didnt destroy it. It later died from a gateway unit. 2) As that Hatch died, a near dead drone was fleeing and one of the Colossus shot at it which should have killed it if it was real.
And then after all that, Stephano's reaction was the following:
- 10 Corruptors - +1 air attack - Neural Parasite
I think this was a massive over-reaction for the 2 colossus which Hero actually showed. Overall it was still an entertaining series and both players deserved to advance, albeit, there can only be one.

Do you really want extended series in a GSL style format? Really, that's the only way to "fix" this format, and I'd say that most people here will take this format over one that uses extended series any day. (I personally don't mind extended series, but I'm weird).
My personal favourite is a round-robin. This way we get to see more games and we won't miss out on any matchups.
Round Robin creates issues with tie breakers and shit like that. It creates a lot of games, but I think double elim is the best for group stage.
Stephano my have went 3-2 against hero, but he went 2-1 when it mattered. It is really easy, don't lose. If he beat Idra he was through, if he beat Hero he was through. You have two chances, he gave away both of them. Hero gave Stephano his first chance, than didn't give his second one away. Map score is not relevant, all that matters is you don't drop series. Your fate is 100% in your hands, just don't lose twice. In my opinion, if your not doing single elim, that is the best way to do it.

It's a group, it's about overall performance.
The solution to your problem would be extended series...wonder what the approval levels for that would be
I don't see anything wrong with double elim group stage, although I find having it being followed up by a single elim bracket pretty damn ridiculous... 1st place spots should be seeded into double elim winner bracket and 2nd place in loser bracket.

so the GSL format is ridiculous? cause this is literally exactly the same except GSL has a second group stage for ro16, which works just like the ro32. the rest is EXACTLY the same, even the match sizes.
anyways, fuck yeah Idra!!!! Rain is gonna be tough though =/

If you said something like he went 2-2 or 3-3 but lost when it mattered I would be ok with it but there I disagree. Groupstage are supposed to be fair, not just easy to understand. GSL style takes into account that you don't need to play n°1 versus n°4. In a game where your ratio depends which race you face I'm not too sure about that logic but i'm ok with it. It means that less games have to be played and each match matters. Then you have to rank n°2 and n°3. I don't see a better solution than to chose the best of those two and not the one who won the last games. Give an edge to the last game winner if you want but not as important as the overall game winner. It doesn't even screw with the schedule.
Vods sponsored by NASL sound guy or what? Pretty hard to follow matches while hearing the casters from an other match at the same time and also Hots ads in the background :d

You play 1-3 matches per week in GSL... it's a bit different when you cram whole GSL season into 2 days

Ro16 ended Thursday. Ro8 starts Tuesday. This GSL season is pretty tight.

Yeah, pretty disappointed with the level of professionalism with the production. This is supposed to be like the Olympics of Starcraft, but instead they're getting shown up by Lonestar Clash and Homestory Cup. It gives the impression that Blizz isn't taking things seriously.
Sorry if I'm missing something obvious, but is there a recommended VOD thread for Day 1 of the tourney? I can't seem to find anything like it, and I remember it existing back in the day.
