Only time HotS is watchable is on streams from players who have practiced HotS for a long time because they hit opponents who know what they're doing. As expected, the transition period is a mess, and I enjoy watching the more stable version of StarCraft. That's why it is a bad thing for the competitive aspect of the game that all tournaments switch to HotS when it is out. But it'll bring more viewers, so I guess we'll have to deal with it.

Major tournaments shouldn't have switch to HotS before 1 or 2 months after the release. Nobody will be ready to show their best level.

Thanks. That's a really cool approach for a progamer to have. On February 13 2013 08:01 MCXD wrote: Why do so many progamers go into poker >_> Afaik he's not going into poker but rather he came to Sc2 from poker. What he said basically was because he was performing poorly in Sc2 he had to play poker to support himself financially. So unlike Stephano whos going to the bank, Titan is actually going from the bank to support his passion for SC2. Which i think is really really cool.

So if tournaments were to stick to wol for a month or two then all that would amount to is delaying the transition for equal time. It would not make it any smoother whatsoever! The good news is that just like when kespa transitioned and could benefit of an already developed metagame, so will those who just now transition to hots profit from players who have played longer and developed some resemblence of a metagame. At any rate well just have to take the first messy weeks/month or two.

But I don't see any way this could have been avoided, it is apparently the smarter business decision and there would always be the overlap of some players still practicing for WoL because there are tournaments for it who have no clue about HotS and some practicing for HotS because they want a headstart and can win money in a less than stable game environment. It doesn't matter when the switch occurs, it would always hurt some and benefit others so it's better to make the cut immediately after release and get all players on HotS asap so they can accelerate the development of the metagame. Otherwise we'd end up with shit like the hybrid proleague.

Is Titan is too careless to turn down an invite, or practice for a qualifier, it's entirely his fault for putting on an embarassing performance.

Considering the rake, I guess like 40% of poker players should do better than breakeven. That will change if they move up in the limits, but still....^^ And "good money" in russia would be like 500-600$ a month and you can do that easily on nl50 or something and I can guarantee that FAR MORE than 1% of poker players can do that. Even if we are talking about 2-3k a month, that would still be much more than 1% of the players. You literally have to be one of the best players in the world to make money playing sc2, you have to have a decent understanding of the game to make money playing poker.

But this is more about Blizzard than the tournaments makers.
