Now announcing the Great Northern Monthly Starcraft 2 2v2 Tournament!
After a wonderful, warm response from the SC2 community on TL regarding my 2v2 tournament held on the 2nd of March, I have decided to expand my horizons. In the next block I will do my very best to answer any questions you may have!
** Please make sure to either private message myself or post on the thread with your teammate and who you are signed up on binary beast under! The cutoff date for confirmation will be Thursday March 28th. Upon receiving the details I will mark your team as confirmed. Thanks. **
FAQ's
Where and how much does it cost to sign up?
There is no sign up cost and all teams must sign up on the Tournament 2v2 Sign Up website under either one player's name which will be confirmed or as a team. For example: Holybeardman/Holybeardwoman.
What is the prize pool?
Currently I will be putting up $100 distributed as $70, $20 and $10 for 1st 2nd and 3rd respectively. Please note all prize funds will be in $CDN and sent via paypal marked as gift.
Rules
+ Show Spoiler + Please note * to designate 2v2 only rules
-All teams will meet in the GreatNorthernSC2 GROUP on NA Server to set up for matches. -Teams must consist of exactly two (2) players, no substitutions will be permitted without just cause and notification**. -All matches will be played using the most recently released version of the game. -Players must provide their own valid Starcraft II Battle.net account. -Any team found using third party add-ons, altered game files, or modified drivers that changes the game mechanics or provides an unfair advantage will be disqualified from the tournament. -It is the team's responsibility to be aware of, and follow the posted schedule for the tournament. Failure to be available on time or leaving before all your games are played could result in a game forfeit or tournament disqualification. -Matches have assigned start times, and any team that has not checked in and cannot be found within 15 minutes of the posted time will forfeit that match. Match start times will be updated as the tournament progresses, depending on how quickly we get through the games. It is the team's responsibility to be aware of times of their matches. -Two (2) forfeits during the tournament, either intentional or unintentional will be taken as a team's refusal to play and they will be disqualified immediately. -In the case of battle.net, network, computer or power failure, any affected matches will be restarted from the Resume Replay function. -Either team in a match may restart the match once within the first minute (60s) for any reason. Should a game be restarted from the beginning, the new match will be played on the same map with the same races as the aborted match. Should a player have selected a random race for the aborted match, they will then pick the same race as was chosen for them by the randomizer. -Any Team may dispute the results of one (1) of their matches during the tournament. They must do so immediately upon completion of the match before starting any further matches, and provide the tournament organizers with a replay file and the reason for disputing the match results. The case will then be adjudicated by multiple tournament officials and the results either deemed valid, force a rematch, or reversed entirely at the discression of the tournament officials. The officials may request a replay from any players involved in the match. Since replays are recorded automatically, failing to produce your replay file will likely result in unfavorable judgement. -There will be no communication (either battle.net or otherwise) with players outside of the game while a match is in progress, and any conversation with an opponent must remain civil.
Tournament Format
-Teams will be seeded based on current sc2ranks as well as consideration for personal achievements. -All rounds up until the last round will be BO3, with the final being a BO5

Why restart the game in the case of a disconnect? Why not just resume from replay?
Hmm. ya know what. I suppose you could do that now. Lol. Still not used to all the new stuffs.
Updated to reflect said changes.
I don't quite understand this. Why do you form teams of 3 players (2v2 taem and 1v1 player) if the prizes are separate? I suggest a format closer to the Davis cup one (4 1v1's, 1 2v2 - can accomodate for 2,4 or 6 players)
Also, if you plan to make it more season-like it might be better to allow the players to not play at set times as this will allow more players (ie: European ones) which can't commit at a certain time every week or so. Casting can be easily done from replays.

Asking the crucial questions. Not asking anything pertaining to
Current Teams: NONE ???

Ill answer both questions in a go. The team can be anywhere from 1 to 5 players currently which should take care of playing in both brackets as well as having spares, replacements etc. As for certain times it is currently set to be a monthly online tournament with all play taking place over two days, not weekly (yet! this is my eventual goal but I just don't have the manpower to accommodate this).
Yes there are no current teams signed up. My other tourney running this week has 16 teams and I am hoping for 32+ teams for these seasons.
Ah I think I missed something that might help clarify. You earn points depending on how you place in the league. That being said. If you have a player win the 1v1 bracket and your team wins the 2v2 bracket you would essentially earn double the points as compared to someone who won one bracket. The points ladder is amalgamated and because of this it highly emphasizes playing both brackets as a team. That being said. If someone signs up for the 1v1 league alone they still have a chance at having the top point total by consistently placing higher.
So I just want to clarify. You're only allowed to sign up for 1v1s if you're a part of a 2v2 roster that's playing also, but if your scheduling conflicts you have to pick which to play in? Or wha o.o? From what I understood you wanted to restrict this to small teams playing in both events together which sounds cool.
No you can do either or. You can sign up for purely 1v1 if you so choose but there is more benefit from having atleast 3 players so you can do 1v1 and 2v2 bracket with no scheduling issues etc. Please let me know which part is confusing so I can straighten it out.

I just wanted to make sure you could play individual league without being on a "team roster" if you wanted.
Sure can. And still will gain points on the ladder!
Note* I am looking for casters still as well as come graphically talented members of the community to potentially help me with overlays, banners etc etc.
Sounds like a cool idea! Hope this thing can be a new 'daily' replacement if it gets big enough and interest in additional funding
God would be absolutely glorious to be a more common occurance but I just cannot support that myself. Heres to hoping. Please make sure to spread the word!
Just updated the info a bit. Added a new twitter as well as email specifically made for the league. This will be the place for any replays etc etc.
Please let it be known this isn't limited to any specific leagues. If you cannot make all of the tournaments in a season its also not a problem. If need be I can replace a team or player with someone else. To sign up, post here as well as by emailing. Thanks for your interest.
Congrats to LittleRedDot and Night on their victory in my other tournament today! Going forward, this will be the current thread for all upcoming news for this league specifically. I will be updating the OP with important information but please make sure to read through here as well to help fill in any blanks you may have.
Very fun tournament to watch/stream (but then again 2v2 tournaments always are ) Thanks for setting this up HBM!
Unfortunately our mic was wayyy too low and there's a bug in SC2 that the in-game volume keeps getting louder without you doing anything, so don't turn your sound up to hear the casting or you'll go deaf from the game sounds . But at least you can see the games if you missed them!
Here's the games we casted for tournament #1 RO8 RO4 Finals
I hope we can cast some more 2v2 tournaments in the future
Sure thing sir! I am still looking for casters to be around consistantly!
Wow no sign ups yet! Come on guys! get em rolling! 1v1 or 2v2 or both!
I just added a tournament sign up that also carries brackets etc etc. Attached is the link. Please take a peak guys! Im ready to go ahead with the details and need me some teams! Note this is just the 2v2 bracket for the time being.
2v2 Tournament Sign up.
TBH id prefer more of a short term tournament where you get 3 people and go through a 16 group one night tourny or something like that.
Jumping into a 4 month relationship... Im not so sure im ready for that :-[
Ha. Maybe I should cut that out for the time being. Until I get myself a consistant player base
Nice idea, I Wish i had a team of friends to play this with - i srsly feel lonely when I play sc2. Not when playing any other games.
maybe I can set up a section of the thread for a looking for teammates kind of thing. help get people in
Added a poll to the main page as to get a better idea what the community thinks is a better start.
Updated the league. Will only be month to month now and no longer a seasonal basis. That will hopefully be coming in the future!~
Alright I have a few teams signed up. Someone please say something in thread. I look like im talking to myself! ;D
You 're not alone !
Alrighty we need lots more teams still! Come on guys. I can't run a tournament with no players!
5 teams come on guys.. Need to keep going!
Tightened up some of the details and trying to get ahold of the TL admins so I can change the title of the thread.
Yo, u get my support, i'll sign up :-)
Awesome! Got more teams already since changing it up a bit!
My friend and i want to play, but we dont know if we are to sign up here, or what xD
Sign up on the website and post both your character names here please
Let me know what name you signed up under on the website
Any way it could be changed to a later time so people can play after work or something?
I would change it but there are a few teams from EU so pushing it back any further would likely cause some of them to pull out =(
3 PM EST is very early though...
I know Im sorry. The way I see it its a good chance to get through nearly the entire tourney in a day. Next month depending on how popular it gets I may run a split eu/na one
how many teams can sign up/play?
Looking for 32 preferably =)
For europeans it's 8 PM CET on a saturday. So for future tournaments, if u make the tournaments 2 hours later or 4 hours earlier, it wont hurt, since u got the sunday off :-)
- ASLONG as u keep the tournament on a saturday, i dont mind any time ( in my case - other europeans would properably)
Everyone please tweet the tournament or whatever social networking you do! Help get us known!
Up to 15! Amazing! We are getting there. Thats nearly a 10 team increase in less than a day! And our stream was added to TL and soon to be the calendar! I am also looking for some admin help. If you are interested please pm me.
:-) I wonder how 10 teams suddenly knew about the tournament xD
Haha keep up the good work! Its certainly paying off.
It has been brought to my attention that there is an MLG 2v2 tournament running on the same day at near the same time. Because of this I pose the question to you all. Should I move the tournament date to sunday or just leave it be? Please let me know if you can make sunday or saturday and which one is best for you!
Poll: Should the tournament be on Saturday or Sunday?Saturday (6) 75% Sunday (2) 25% 8 total votes Your vote: Should the tournament be on Saturday or Sunday? (Vote): Saturday (Vote): Sunday
Up to 20 teams so far. Just a few more! Keep the word going! Im working hard on my end to promote the tournament.
Getting there. 9 more teams. Less than a week guys!
I'm fLcMilotic and I'm signed up with Cardris!
Please ensure you check in with me. I unconfirmed everyone minus those whom have posted etc

Badfatpanda and PengWin, we signed up for the last tournament you held as well, if you have a spot we'd definitely like to participate
We certainly do and I will sign you up.
single spot left and I am currently still awaiting quite a few teams to confirm their teammates.
Once I get one more team i will publish the brackets!
And we are full! If you missed the bracket cutoff please go ahead and keep signing up. I would like to have atleast a few spare teams in case someone drops out.
I may sign up as alternate then, just saw this. =\
Great tourney & great idea ! Bad dates for me, but I may try to join for a next one
Sure thing =) Chances are atleast a team or two will drop because thats just how it usually is.
I dont see a way to sign up on binarybeast?
Thats probably because the 32 team roster is full up but I am taking spare sign ups in my PMs. First come first served in the event of someone not showing.
Ive gotten a few inquiries as to more positions. I have a waitlist currently filling up and should I get enough players I will add on another round to the tournament! So keep signing up via thread or pm and I will see what we have going on.
My apologies folks. I just had to redo the brackets as a team had signed up twice.
what channel do we meet in?
Its listed in the rules. I will have both the channel and group open

Hey, internet just died on me, on my phone now but we won't be able to play if my ISP doesn't choose to cooperate D: At the moment I expect you"ll need a backup team to replace us.
Thanks so much to everyone for showing up today! Congratz to the winners! Sorry I had to slip out early. Had Easter Dinner to go to. Stay tuned. Will be announcing a 1v1 thread as well as a separate 2v2 thread for the month of april.
Again thank you so much all. Please feel free to leave messages regarding how everything went. You guys are all awesome <3
Damn would've love to have played in this but I didn't know!
awesome tournament today. keep up the good work.
Thanks to everyone who watched stream B! Sorry about the lag, but going back to the vods on twitch, it looks like the stream up to twitch's server were fine (no lag on our end), so my guess is twitch just had our stream at too low bandwidth-priority to handle 1080p. We'll go ahead and stick to 720p until the stream gets partnered status and you get resolution scaling options
Also, no one told us the minimap was partially covered up! That was totally my fault for leaving the original overlay up with our modified version. At least this got fixed when we did the finals
Thanks again HBM for setting this up, it was very fun to take part in!
