According to the site the money tournies will give $110, btw.
Now the other post makes more sense..
PS. why are the money tournaments named differently? I can't see any noticeable difference (single elim, same prize and cost to enter)
|
I like this. Gives me more reason to get on and play. Besides ladder, i feel more motivated to practice.
|
Looks very nice, even managed to fit a 2v2 tournament in there . Wonder how far they will go with this, could set up some nifty stuff (people with top credits get invited to qualifier or something of that sort).
|
this is incredible
|
I think that MLG is onto something with this format, especially at this early stage of the game.

Hey guys,
KC from MLG here. Just wanted to poke my head in here and make some comments.
We made some significant layout changes to our site today. Unfortunately, this created the site to go down a couple times for a few minutes. Hopefully things are steady now and you won't see anymore issues.
With the release of Heart of the Swarm, we want to aggressively grow our Starcraft Online Tournament community. To do that, we're going to host a bunch of free and paid entry Online Tournaments every week. We're really excited about getting more involved here, and hope you guys are as well.
This is purely community driven. If we see tournaments filling and a demand for this, we're going to do more and more. We've got some ideas for the future as well and would love to hear your's too! Let us know what you want!
A few ideas we're looking at.... 1. Tournaments based on rankings (Masters, Diamond, Platinum, Gold, Silver, Bronze) 2. Larger entry tournaments ($20-$30) with much larger prize pools 3. Pro Circuit integration where competing in these will provide a benefit in our larger qualifiers 4. 2v2, 3v3, 4v4
Thanks for taking an interest. Hope to see you guys take advantage of this and compete next week!
|
Great idea guys! Super excited to see how this progresses.
|
I wouldn't try too hard, MLG. Dailies are nice but look what happened to playhem. Of course their issues had multiple reasons, but I would be happy with a tournament or two every weekend.
|
SICK FUCK NAYSAYERS THIS IS AWESOME
|
Looks good.
Account activation for new MLG account doesn't seem to be working though.
|
Can't wait for todays tournament
Also, I see a paid tourney for 2v2, but no free ones...do you have to buy pts to play in it?
|
Ah this is where all these masters came from :/
|
I'm very sad these are only for US Residents...
|
How do i sign up for another tournament?
I played in yesturdays tournament...and now i am trying to sign up for todays, but it keeps taking me to the create team page (again) and i can't create the same team...and when i search for my already created team it doesn't show up
PS. i simply added a number to the end of it and it worked, but it seems silly that i will have to do this...and the team thing in general
Second question: Can there be points for more than just first place...if they are the only ones getting points, then they will be the only ones who can do the money tournaments
|
well that was disappointing. I signed up for the tournament and waited about an hour for my opponent to get online. He never got online so I never could play him. I filed the thing to say that my opponent did not show up, and when i checked back later it says he won 2-0 .....
|

You have to create a team for each tournament. There is no way to carry over your team from tournament to tournament. If you change the url by adding a number or two on the end, you should be able to use the same name.
Credits are given out to 1st-3rd. The general format for the free tournaments is 25 Credits to 1st, 10 to 2nd, and 5 to 3rd.

I am not sure what happened since I wasn't there, but that shouldn't have happened. There is a thread on the MLG forums in the SC2 section to help you with this. We created a group on SC2 called "MLG Online Tournaments" where you can join, chat with other players and support staff, and help you find your opponent a little more easily.

Thank you, and thanks again for doing these tournaments...hasn't seemed like too many people have noticed, but were still getting quite a few people and hopefully more will notice
Also, i think it would be great if both 3rd and 4th got the 5 credits since it will likely happen often that one or both people who lose in the semi's just log off
|
|
These tournaments haven't filled yet!
Please come and play! especially if you are a lower league ....very few masters playing atm, and money tournaments are for $110!
|
If anybody has any questions or feedback, please do not hesitate to ask here. I will be checking this thread daily to answer any questions, or to review any feedback provided. Thanks!

Maybe you should allow Canadian players if you want to grow the cups that did oh so poorly in WoL.

These tournaments are US only?

Will you be using community maps? It wouldn't hurt.
|
I don't get this, trying to join the tourney for today. It keeps stopping me asking for a team, I put in my team and then it says wrong country. This is fucking annoying, my account and the tourney is NA.
|
The "per league" tournaments sound like a great idea, there is not much incentive for me (Diamond) to participate on a tourny that will surely be won by high masters/GMs.
|
Every time I try to make a team it says "You are not permitted to compete in this competition because you don't meet the following criteria: Country"
Can someone help me?
Tournament says NA though, and has a picture of the Canadian continent. Like what? Are you serious MLG? You never come to Canada anyway and now you shafting us.

I havent tried but canadians cant play in the free mlg tournaments?
I know Quebec has weird rules and laws regarding winnings but most things exclude Quebec and not all of Canada as a result.
|
So to be clear, this is NOT to qualify for MLG Anaheim, it's just for fun/money?
|
This website is fucking awful, why do i have to create a "team" to sign up for a single player tournament?
|
Wow, sounds cool but alienates every non US resident >< which I would guess is close to half of the MLG content viewers.

Yeah that's what I was thinking, its just weird that it lists the country as the criteria not met as opposed to the province...
|
This seems really great. Seems good for MLG to have amateur competitions.
But it seems like.. You have to earn credits in 1v1 in order to compete in 2v2? That kinda sucks for 2v2 players.
|
Signed up to try and play. Won't let me because of country (England). Seems rather bizarre now we have access to all servers.

Is it US only ?
I don't see any intel on this front.

I don't see any intel on this front. Yes, currently it is. We are checking to see if we can allow more into the OLTs, for at least the Free ones.

Please fix: 1. have to make a team each tournament. 2. can't pick any team name that was made before 3. can't tell whether signed up or not on tournament list
|
I signed up to play today, my match is at 5 pm EDT, so I have 30 minutes. However, I have no idea who my opponent is, and the chat channel in SC2 is pretty dead. Any ideas?

How about you make its NA tourney since it says it's friggin' NA. Spent half an hour on this trying to figure out how the country was wrong in the team creation screen wonder what the hell gives. Ridiculous.

Boycott MLG fellow Canadians! I'm seriously incredibly disappointed, words can't describe. Offended? New expansion and everything and you guys show your true colors.

I am just curious.. no offense, but how is MLG/GameBattles 'new' to running events? These sorts of tournament/league module features and functions should be standard. You are better off running these on the www.challonge.com website for now until these basic features/functions can be implemented. I'm just a bit baffled by the fact that GameBattles has been around for more then 7 years and has been running tournaments for various games for just as long and there is something more difficult about running a basic single elimination bracket for SC2.
Sorry if I sound like I am ranting a bit.
We need GB to succeed in eSports and for too long it has been ignored by the devs.

We do have somethings we need to do to make our process simpler and will be working diligently with the community to do just that.
I don't see it as a rant but as a forum for suggestions.

Would it be possible to make it much more clear that this is only available for the NA region? There doesn't seem to be any indication here or on your site that these events are region locked until after you've created accounts and started the sign-up process.

I really like the idea of these tournaments, I just feel like the general website layout could use a little work. I found it a bit difficult to find out where to submit my replays and had to keep figuring it out again. Maybe it's just me though.

I would love to play in these; unfortunately, most of them are weekdays and I work 9-5 in the pacific timezone. I imagine a lot of mountain time people are cut out of the picture, too. Even for high school students, 3pm is not really workable. Any chance some of these tournaments will have staggered times to accommodate? That's a lot of potential participants you're missing out on
