That was a nice game from Theognis, but really not a lot of multitasking from either side. Jaedong did a great job shutting down drop play, but after that is was just army vs. army, no runbys, drops, etc. If Jaedong wants to win these games he needs to test Theognis's multitask, since JD should be able to outplay him in that respect.

The other 16 come from the equivalent of GSL's "Up and Downs". The 32 players from Challenger who didn't make it all the way through do 8 groups of 4, where the top 2 in the group go up to Premiere (16 spots), the third place person is in Challenger again the next season, and the fourth place person falls out entirely.

Supernova and Flash are great at using Hellbats.
I've mainly seen them in TvT from Flash (and certainly mainly in mech-compositions), and I don't recall seeing SN play, but I definitely haven't seen them used as heavily together with the bio to completely neuter the ling-bling phase of Z.

Yeah, only the 4th place person in the Up & Downs actually drops entirely out in AM and EU right now. So only 8 new spots in Challenger available each Season. I can see how this is reasonable with the relatively thinner ranks of pros in AM and EU, but it certainly feels weird after being used to GSL...
BTW in the second game, when JD had Ultra,infestor, queen, army.. That was when Theognis started dropping like a madman. What could have JD done against that? His army was pretty immobile, so why not make tons of spines/spores? (I'm P, I genuinely don't know if I'm super wrong)

It actually seems like that's what I'd shoot for. I can see why NA got the majority of the transferring Koreans. As long as you qualify (which should be/was insanely easy for them) and then making it utterly difficult to leave.
Its like we're in the first few season of Code S again, its actually easier to stay than it is to leave

He went roach+hydra and didn't trade well in game 1. Theognis kept building up his MMMT while holding on and eventually he was able to attack JD's 5th, take it out and then attack up into his exp and win the game. Game #2, JD went for a quick 3rd, 2 hellions from theognis killed 9 drones then theognis also took his 3rd while getting more MMM and mines. He pushed out and kept up the pressure getting good mine hits and such. Jaedong got a good surround but he hesitated a lot losing his third. He lost his 4th when he burrowed and unburrowed his 5 ultras like 2-3 times and theognis started dropping him a lot once he got his ultra army. Eventually, losing your spawning pool, 3rd, 4th, 5th and then trading with a superior army with 10 mines doesn't work unless you're life lol. He also ran his 7 infestors past an MM group near the tower at the left of the map and well ya, less bases, lower supply army and he got rolled lol

Maj0r's TvT seems a level above his other matchups, really solid.
Can't wait to see him back playing offline again, it's been ages so hopefully he can make it through groups in 'Code S'. Xenocider is also pretty solid looking, America seems to have a good few more up-and-coming Terrans than i can remember in a while, might be that they aren't playing WoL as well of course :p

Yeah it felt like once Fenix was about a base ahead he was just able to take terrible engagements since he was so ahead on macro.
I think Bails had really solid defense up through the midgame but he got stuck on his two and then three bases for too long and he just couldn't defend forever. That said I'm actually really interested in his style from a learning perspective. I think he did a pretty good job of spreading his units correctly and getting good engagements. There are obviously tons of things he could've done better but his style seems really emulatable, which is cool. I'll have to keep an eye out for him.
If you want to emulate anyone, emulate Rain. Pretty hard though! :p He's kind of like my new Creator, really solid builds that are pretty copyable (albeit at a lower standard)

Yeah-- I was about to compare him to Rain but decided that would be maybe too much based off one game. But yeah, I love Rain for his builds. But two unfortunate things are: I never get to see him play since most korean games are way late at night for me. And he's almost too good. Like as a low-mid masters player, I can see myself copying Bails' play. Like it's at the level for me where there's a few things I can take from his play that would improve my own play that seem feasible. Where when I watch Rain, he just seems to do everything so well that it's overwhelming.
I really wish I could see more games from Rain, though. He is such a boss.

Swarm hosts worry me. I'm afraid they might become the Broodlords of HotS. After all, most people had no issues with Broodlord deathballs until that damn queen patch.
Makes me worry that while HotS is in a pretty good place balance-wise, we might be 1 or 2 patches away from OP swarmhost deathballs.

I really don't know why I see so much whining about swarm hosts when all they seem to do is create a long and intense micro battles and still usually the guy with SHs loses. Yet every time locusts kill units without losses someone will cry out about free units blah blah blah.

The only argument people have against so called "free units" compared to the damage a tank does for example, is that they block pathing, which is not a big issue against both Colossi and Blink Stalkers.
Otherwise SH are like siege tanks with longer range, with the down side that you can completely avoid the damage they do by killing their attack as it travels slowly to the target. It's like whining that tanks have free attacks.

I wanted Sage to win, but I'm glad that foreigners aren't afraid to win anymore. It doesn't make the most interesting games but it's time we started seeing more competition.
Two really good Koreans knocked out from WCS NA. I am pleasantly surprised, didn't expect this, especially in the very first season! Great job Vibe and Theognis!

True dat. Much better stories would exist than a weak JD falling so far from heaven and a Korean ROOT player being taken down by his ROOT teammate.
These were Premier Division players beating up on Contenders. It's to be expected...
If Sage and JD as contenders won their matches then people would say "it's expected, they are Korean!!!" even though their skill level is not even good enough to play in WCS NA Contender Division (as displayed today). If REAL NA Contenders or SEA/China Contenders were to win their matches vs Premier players then you'd have a story.
