Praying for an ace match, these two teams are gonna go at it. Seriously hyped for Light vs Fantaji, sOs vs PartinG and Rain vs Soulkey, hope Bisu doesn't botch too hard and it's gonna b gud.
My only request is that someone clearly state who won, so I don't have to read through the thread all the time to decipher the winner. In case I can't watch. While I drive. And update at stop lights.

So is the format like this, the 3rd and 4th placing teams meet each other. Winner of that meets the 2nd placing team, and then the winner of that is in the grand finals against 1st place (Woongjin)?

eh theres no such thing as quarterfinal or semifinal cuz there are two teams each round. This is a variation of King of the Hill style, not conventional format
Proleague really need to go back to their old three seasonal champions and then a grand final playoff at the end. There is no way they can keep the interest level up for an entire year or even six months. Have three seasons, two rounds each, and have one round be regular format and the other all-kill. Then have a four team playoff to crown a season champion. Repeat twice more. Best four teams throughout the three seasons then face off for the overall championship.
also we're releasing a text interview soon with a kespa player, and having read it, it's possibly the greatest (or worst) interview in the history of e-sports.

I actually find the format way more interesting than GSTL. Its nice because the best team wins in the long run and it feels more like a serious competition, similar to a european soccer league, NHL or similar. Every game is of course not interesting but each results is important with some hyped games here and there. I think having one major tournament per year is way more serious than having six of them with six different winners.
What I want to say shortly: One winner per yer defines who was the best team for the year. Six winners per year makes it quite hard to define who was the best. Some wins will not be taken seriously, etc. etc.

what the hell are you talking about? Proleague has consistently been run in around one year period with one round or two (depend on teams/logistics) since Shinhan, and it's good that way. Beside, winnerleague has always been some kind of bonus feature

A year seems way to long in esports time, 3 a year imo. Having two leagues hurts the hype a lot as well.

Fully agreed. I would have way less interest in PL if it wasn't such a long competition.
I wish the playoffs could be an even bigger deal though. They always are over so fast...

Of course a merge between the two leagues is a wet dream... ^^
A year long format worked when there were 12 teams, variety, and the attendance was full every night. A year now just drags for the live attendance and it's eight teams, making it even worse.

GSTL ends in July. SPL ends in July or August? eSF-KeSPA trade lock ends in October.

He defended against harassment in multiple places at once very well, only lost 6 probes to Hellbat drop and had pretty much the sickest storms of the year. Overall very solid, no huge holes in his play, multitask defense preventing him from taking any huge losses or falling behind at all.

The tl+ forum isn't the only thing you get, having the filter button in large threads is really useful. The larger list for subscribed threads is nice as well, and the ad banner areas are gone(not just gone, but the site layout changed to fit together as if the ad banners were never there).

To be fair, a lot of that was because of Bravo's faults and not Bisu's genius. The vikings were getting shot by Stalkers before engaging Colossi and Bravo's splitting was sub-par at best. So the Protoss AoE units did a lot of damage unconstested.

I don't understand why they don't just resume where the game DCed. I was preoccupied so I didn't see the exact circumstances behind the DC but what's the justification for not resuming right where the DC occurred? Was Flying lagging or something that caused him to lose his oracle?

Seemed like Flying lost control before the game stopped and therefore they resumed earlier
SNM and Whiplash should have highlighted how Flying used hold position on his zealots, while BeSt did not. It allowed Flying to retain his zealots because BeSt's suicided into Flying's army a couple at a time while jostling for position.

This could be close. Khan has Woongjin, which will probably send rookies next week, and CJ, who are already sending rookies. T1 has T8 who just randomly 4-0s sometimes and EGTL who are hitting their stride. Still could go both ways imo.

SoulKey managed to get quite a few lings in before the cannon for Rain was up. Rain managed to snipe the 3rd of SK with 3 cannons, but SK already took the 4th. SK does a massive roachpush and wins.

i think 10 pool? well for sure it was an early pool that caught rain offguard he went for nexus first, then forge then cannon, and from there on sk was waay ahead.
The whole disconnect stuff reminds me of how I felt during that MSL final. I think the outcome was decided by the bad call rather than Stars actually winning >_>

Thanks! Seemed like rain couldn't buy a proper engagement

It could be that soulkey didn't want to- there's a pretty famous and well-liked game of Rain vs Soulkey (I believe it's their last clash before this one) where both of them play straight up macro games, standard as standard gets, but Rain wins with sheer mechanics and better control (honestly, only innovation beats him in this department these days).

There weren't really any units Rain could use to engage with, his small force of MsC+Stalker+Zealot(?) was surrounded and killed and after that his sentries were simply swarmed by so many roaches.

TBH Rain's decisionmaking and crisis management was piss-poor after encountering the ten-pool. Killing a hatch with a pylon + 3x cannon was an even trade at best, and staying outside with the MsC/stalker/zeal in the face of incoming speedlings was just being willfully blind.

I'M SO FULL OF HOPE.
Yeah if I was in the position, I'd be pretty keen to keep taking scalps even if first place was a lock

Could be risky to get complacent and just coast the rest of the season. I like that they are still running full steam ahead.
I just do not like WJS. And seriously, that Flying vs. Best gamecrash lost Best the game. No good sportsmanship there, but I'm so used to that from WJS. They just suck.

I don't know how that's the fault of Woongjin and not the fault of the referees (or Blizz for no LAN).

I understand your frustration but the referees called the shots, WJS was in no matter involved in the decision process. This is not ST_PartinG versus MarineKingPrime where PartinG was legitimately robbed of a fair game.
Finished watching WJS vs SKT It's really nice to see Bisu really getting it together. I rip on him all the time but I secretly do want him to succeed
Also Dat Choke job by SKT. Would be hilarious if they lose their playoff spot to Samsung Khan. Then they get to feel what it was like cheering for the kTF Magicians back then :<

Oh hoho I've been discovered. I might as well post this interview of Bisu winning against a zerg!
[SPL] "I just feel good about out straight wins. I just plan my game based on what Zerg does." -Bisu
"The Revolutionist" Bisu (T1) pulled off a perfect game against Zerg and contributed to T1's 8 straight wins.
On May 2, 1:00 p.m. Korean time, at SPL 08-09 R4 4th week first match, Bisu defeated Zero on the second set.
How do you feel about winning all five games at R4 thus scoring 8 straight wins? - I feel like this is the best streak of the team since I joined. I'm glad to be a part of this streak and wanna continue to win.
You had lost all two previous games against Zero - I always had thought Zero was good. He makes perfect build against Protoss, so I knew the game will be difficult. But I wanted to make up for the previous losses. So I prepared hard and my plan was good.
Attack upgrade 1 on Zealots was good - They were good for the defense, but the fact that my two High Templars survived and could storm helped more. After that, my big Gates count eased the game. The situation was good because I was able to defend my expansions.
When did you know you would win? - At the center battle when my big troop did well against Zero's. That was the most important part.
You games against Zerg seems to get better. - Well, what can I say? (laugh) I just plan my game based on what Zerg does.
You have 39 wins, just one fewer than Flash. - It seems very difficult to catch up on him. Our team always scored 3:0 so I have fewer games (laugh). But if I just do my part I can catch up.
One more win to top Oz - The next game is against Leta, which I expect is tough. But it's about our team's 9 straight wins, so I will do my best and try to win.
Many fans came out today and there was even a fan event. - Such an event seems few in SPL. Baseball and basketball get a lot of those to attract fans. I wish e-sports can get to that level so it become a family event.
Last words - I thank my team for helping me practice.
