You think so? Sleep seems like a player a few tiers below Maru in general, and Dream is said to have bad TvT - Bbyong would be the main problem for him. I too expect Maru to crash and burn at some point this tournament, but I don't think it'll be this group, as it's relatively easy. Probably next round.

He hates Prime because he has good taste in teams!

he lost a bet so he was forced to put up the prime flair :D
Not really sold on either Dream's or Bbyong's TvT so I think that puts Maru in a very good spot. Tough group to call, though. Maru beat Dream in their last meeting and Bbyong beat Maru. Bbyong is such an Ensnare he will probably get out of this group

Bbyong and Dream played on the same Code A day, against MKP and Fantasy respectively. All 4 of those players had sub50% TvT at the time. Dream actually looked the most impressive of the lot. Dream has since gotten to 50% while Bbyong is still at 31% albeit with very small sample sizes for both.

Because lots of people dont think he is "horrible" I for one think he is the best caster at what he brings to the commentary booth. Might not be 100% accurate and build for build analysis like some others, but no doubt he brings great voice, knowledge of E-Sports and passion for it in his time on air.

I have to agree, that was some modern art type stuff. :p
There one where one guy had his back towards the camera made me laugh too, didn't catch the names, might've been Dream and Bbyong having his back turned.

Please be quiet and stop bitching. It does no-one any good.
I really like Sleep despite him generally not showing too good form. But he has the most velvety voice ever, and I remember him having good ZvP at a Lonestar Clash tournament.

Sigh, im not going to get into this with you who clearly has 1, a problem with Tasteless and 2, no idea of his background and how long he has been doing this for! So just stop with the caster bashing/silly posts when it is clearly not welcome in LRs if you have ever read any of the mod notes on the old ones ;_;
Fucking APM is off the charts. I had like 66% win vs P and Z last season in Masters, and 25% against Terran. I have so much respect for zergs that can keep up apm like this.

I'm no Zerg but why didn't Sleep have a spore or two up to help deal with the Medivacs and detect the WM? That 2 Medivac drop in the main did a fair bit of damage and gave some momentum to Maru when Sleep had been doing well thus far.
On September 04 2013 18:23 Heartland wrote: Is it impossible to do counterattacks with ling/muta when facing this style? Seems like that might be strong against it.
You can, but then you let get T a game winning fortified position while a drop is raping your main.
On September 04 2013 18:23 Heartland wrote: Is it impossible to do counterattacks with ling/muta when facing this style? Seems like that might be strong against it.
Basically you need either big portions of your army or your mutalisks to deal with drops.
Without big army/mutalisks in the counterattack, it's kinda easy to defend since mines deal with mass units well and marines deal with mutas well.
So it's very hard, best way imo is to do mini counter attacks with a handful of lings and hope the terran player doesn't have defense near his mineral lines.

Yeah im asking myself the same question in almost every ZvT I watch. I feel like it was the same way in WoL. It took forever until zergs started to dump minerals in static defence. Stephano being one of the few who wasnt afraid to do it and he became known for superb drop defence.

Hard to play perfect.
True, but that was the Medivac timing, no? So, he must have known it was coming. Even a single spore could have saved some precious lings and drones and negated the drop, at least somewhat, until the Overseer and reinforcements arrived.

Until Innovation slaughtered him with drops in GSL!

Greedy? Most of terran pros don't even scout when cc'ing first. And his build is an offensive oriented build, he is anything but greedy...

But he is not being greedy with a 3rd CC so its fine and really not that greedy

It's not greedy at all, he scouted after first depot to confirm hatch first before building low ground... Calling "greed" the fact he makes a 19th SCV shows how completely misused this word is.

Yeah, I agree. But if there is a spore behind the mineral line the Terran just drops a bit further and then snipes the spore with his 2 medivacs full with units. You don't know if there will be widow mines anyway.
Dnu, but I make spore + spinecrawler in all my games vs T and I still lose a shitton to drops. It isn't a magical structure that denies all drops. It just delays drops sometimes depending on what is in the medivacs and the amount of medivacs.
If you're doing a risky attack like this in ZvT, would it be worth getting a nydus worm up in advance to deal with multi-pronged counters like this? Or is that too costly?

The 5-star voting system sucks and shouldn't be used as long as it shows individual votes and not average result. Not their fault.
Cloak Banshee was the follow up i would of done if i was Bbyong, Optimus is doing it now and it will do huge damage scouted now Bbyong makes raven and Optimus goes back into vikings xD #Smart!
Maru is pretty damn good. Notices the siege tank, doesn't take a shot but runs the hellion into the scv line to do maximum damage. Split-second decision there!

Bbyong didn't really outclass Dream, he just got build order wins. D:
Wow, didn't watch those WCS(code S) matches for some time, I really like the stuff below the Mineral/Gas/Supply(the Income/Workers/Army count), very nice touch.

Yeah this UI is excellent, shows upgrades/abilites on the bottom right unit panes too.

I personally prefer to have as few things on the screen as possible, and let the observer point out worker/army and income only when significant.

There has been so many monments where Dream has just been stupidly aggressive for no reason and losing units left and right unneccessary, pretty hard to watch.

Hive finishes, 3 Vipers started, but Dreams 3-3 bio pushes through the 2-2 ling/bling and the 1-1 mutas and forces the gg. Dream equalizes the series 1-1
really bad macro D: didn't like him sending his muta flock out, didn't really accomplish anything and lost the potential to snipe a bunch of medivacs ;x
poor macro :/ why not just build a spine wall, and spines behind your mineral line aswell. Sitting on 3k minerals isnt doing you much good if you dont spend it.

Whilst Zerg floats to 3k+ minerals and 2k gas on lair tech. Come on.
Sleep not liking macro hatches, Terran didn't wanted to get extra racks. Quiet equal match until 3/3 arrived while the Zerg was sitting on a bank without teching.

actually it is. Atleast it happens way to often. But you are right, sleep can only blame himself for losing that. Got nothing to do with 3/3

Was just pointing out that either we see Zerg win before Terran gets 3/3 or they loose right after. Lately it has been loosing right after most of the time. WCS season 2 finals had 4 games in a row of this...
I don't understand why more zergs doesn't build extra macro hatches. It is so often you so them floating a lot of minerals whilst not being maxed. If you know that you don't have perfect injects (no one has really) isn't better with a couple of more hatches than floating so much money?

I'm not saying that you should build hatcheries for a worth of 3.5k minerals. You just need maybe 1 or 2 extra. And I think most players would prefer being maxed with a little smaller bank and have larvae compared to floating 3.5k minerals and not being able to max cause you don't have enough larvae.
Sleep's micro has been great this game, never allowing the widow mines to do too much damage. Very patient, always waiting for good engagements, even when Dream is right outside his natural/third.

So killing like 5-6 medivacs worth of harass and taking almost no damage from them + destroying the terran economy + out microing barely leads to a zerg win. Fun. I'm hoping that some zerg comes up with a style which doesn't involve outplaying your opponent to such a ludicrous degree in order to win.

How was this barely a win? There wasn't really a single moment where Sleep was about to die. I know TvZ is pretty good for terran atm but way to overstate things..

Douchebag zergs win and then complain about balance.
Also to anyone commenting on sleep winning through micro despite having 2k+ minerals floating then you cannot commentate on fantasy doing the same thing vs better opponents.

Slow down there cowboy, Sleep also didn't play to the best of his ability, of course he outplayed Dream, thus why he won, but he also floated a ton of resources in both the macro games, and he could have either gone to hive and gotten 3/3 or crushed Dream's army and overwhelmed him and killed him way, way sooner.

Sounds quite good actually considering his awful spending skill. Can't wait for the replay to be released to check with ggtracker, I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't even have 75 SQ.

It was no close win, it was pretty easy. People only make the mistake to take being offensive for having an advantage which is not always true. That plus the non-spent minerals from Sleep and the game could have been over way earlier.

Gotta love that zergs balance whine even when they win in a convincing way despite floating thousands of minerals and gas.

Last part isn't true. Sleep only started floating minerals after he hit 200 this game. It's also not that easy to counterattack and "kill" a terran that is on 3 bases and keeps rallying mmmbwop to your base.

Except that getting position on a zerg is still a good thing, true it's not as strong as getting a strong siege line on zergs used to be but it sure as hell generally provides an advantage.

Gotta love that zergs balance whine even when they win in a convincing faction despite floating thousands of minerals and gas.
LOL FANTASY
Never saw FanTaSy float as much as 4.1/1.7k in a game, but please feel free to contradict me with an actual example.

He floated before he was maxed, he also hit hive very late compared to what he could have done. =.=

If you want siege tanks on the front line, you have to fly them in bomber style. edit: ♥ Bomber ♥

I wonder how much minerals were "floating" in those raxes in game 2. Dream was floating 1.5k visible. But could have had 8 marines queued in 5 more raxes.

You mean he put himself into the aggressive positon because in the defensive position he will (in addition to his supply disadvantage) also lose complete map control and give up all that he could potentially aim for? Yes, that is Terran. You have to be in the Zergs face, if you are not, he will tech up and rape. Never saw it happen? I am sure you will find a few games to check how an unchecked Zerg looks like.

I know you have to be in an aggressive position as terran vs zerg, I just hate how that position leads so often to things snowballing out of control (both ways I know), and can quite often just make up for any failed harassment.
In any event I'll take this to the designated balance discussion I don't want to ruin the lr.
I really liked that Sleep actually made adjustments game to game. His macro was still not the best but he did a better job spending money, added static d earlier and helped his multitasking issues by keeping pockets of units to deal with drops. Wasn't perfect play but it was nice to see he didn't fall down the same hole he did game2.

That was really all-in, no upgrades and no 3rd base, to be honest I think he could have done way better had he tried to secure a 3rd and gotten upgrades, but BCs are still insanely expensive.
hm to bad could have made that work if he didn't derp the first time and attack ground units with the BCs and kept his banshees alive. Sleeps had so many transfuses though at the first engagement lol.
Seems like Bbyong is on to something with that strategy, but he engaged somewhat poorly. Perhaps wait till 3 base to get the BCs? And support them better? Split the BCs up and do a multi-pronged attack?

It was just a silly strategy, much worse than the 2-bases all-ins ForGG sometimes plays out of Hellions/Banshees. There's not much to explore unfortunately.

I expected this group to be quite weak, but not that weak :-/ I'm especially disappointed by Dream. Realistically, none of those guys except Maru deserve to be in Ro16. Maybe WCS NA and EU drain too much talent away from GSL
Sleep floating money I can understand since he lost like all his queens but Bboyng is constantly supply blocked and floating 1,5k, producing off one factory for a long time

Bbyong playing himself into my heart here. Also GSL map system might be a bit unfair because of the set starting map, but atleast we see different maps, so I don't care about the fairness factor anymore.

These games probably solidify 4M for every other Terran watching as the best option by far. Shame because these games although somewhat lackluster have been very fun.

If Sleep can fix his weaknesses (coughmacrocough) he has potential to go far as a player. I don't see him making it through this seasons ro16, even with Artosis blessing him

what else would you say is the best tournament? they have the best competition, best casters, good consistent production etc
It's up there at the top with other tournaments. But watching GSL isn't as entertaining as a lot of other tournaments, even if the competition is decent. Best casters? Well Artosis is great, Tasteless is....okay. Just my opinion, don't want to rustle anybody's Jimmies.

Seeing how this is Sleep's first ever Code S... Obviously not, he qualified for one of the open seasons. Nothing beats getting to the open season Ro64.

if it's your opinion then don't present it as fact

Are you mentally retarded, or do you just have an inability to read?

Looks like we can get some kind of Western-style rivalry between him and the guy that temp banned him. Too bad we're the targets.
Well, we just have to flamebait all the time to feed them targets. So far it's been the Summer of KBB but Shellbot hasn't gotten a single ban just yet.
KBB vs Shellbot. The Flash vs Jaedong of TL banlings.
So Artosis blessed Sleep (i am yet to go through twitch vods, and it seems there were no really interesting games, except Maru and Sleep outmicroing everyone).

Just noticed a neat little fact. If you don't count PartinG as KeSPA for this, since he wasn't one of the original KeSPA players that moved over to SC2 not too long ago, it's actually completely even between eSF and KeSPA. 16 of each in Ro32, and so far 4 of each in the Ro16. The balance is pretty good!

Let KeSPA have Parting, eSF gets Trap and Dear now that Soul plays GSTL :p

hyvaa too;
but actually it's not quite that way at all. With IM, Prime, MVP leaving eSF and Innovation on Acer, jjakji on MYinsanity we have:
13 Kespa players 9 players from IM, MVP or Prime 8 eSF players 2 players on a foreign team
