Groupstages will be played WCS style (winner vs winner, loser vs loser and final match) with 5 best of 3 matches being played per group and 2 players advancing to the quarter finals which will be played in a best of 5 format. The semi finals will be best of 5 aswell and the 3rd place decider too. The grand finals will be a best of 7
Thursday 23 January 16:00 GMT (+00:00) Groups A & B Friday 24 January 16:00 GMT (+00:00) Groups C & D Saturday 25 January 13:00 GMT (+00:00) Quarter Finals Sunday 26 January 13:00 GMT (+00:00) Semi Final, 3rd Place Play Off & Grand Finals
For the players convenience everything will be played in advance and casted from replays except on the final day because broadcasting at a good time often means players have to play very late and it is very important to me that they play their best. on the 26th i would like the players to play live ( so not replay cast ) so the schedule on sunday is subject to change after discussion with the players to avoid them having to play too late since korea is 8hours ahead of Europe.

I'd give Huk the best odds and Dayshi the worst. Anyway JD to win it all to start 2014 with a bang and set the tone for things to come.
its getting abit annoying every tournament around is purely invite or almost purely invite these days
anyway this tournament looks amazing ^^
edit: to clarify this was nothing to target this specific tournament though, just in general there are too many invite spots for tournaments in my opinion

Indeed, even though I have no chance of qualifying I'd rather see people play who fought to get there. I don't want to take anything away from these invites, because this is an insane caliber of players. Still, I like qualifiers :D
It always seems a bit odd for me to see the people organizing events sending these kind of tweets...Like tagging destiny and CatZ with "skype " right after "I give up". Couldn't these be handled PM?
Probably won't be watching as a result of the clear overlap. Even if you've had it planned for a while MLG announced theirs several days earlier. Is it really that hard to move it back a week?

Not very professional, just drama and asking for attention

Raise your profile/practice hard enough and then win when it matters so you're someone people consider inviting
This is awesome. They invited basically most of the hottest fan favorites right now, the viewership should be pretty good for this as long as it's promoted well.
MLG's little tournament is going to get crushed unfortunately.

Not meant to be dramatic. If you have watched my twitter this week you'll see that is the only way I can contact Catz. He does not look at skype until I harass him on twitter. This is a daily occurrence.

That is very, very problematic.
Because a guy doesn't use Skype that often/needs provocation to use it? Put the pitchforks down
Why put one foreigner in each group like that? It seems like it's to give more competition as there will inevitably be Koreans battling for 2nd/3rd. No hope for the foreigners. Huk has best chance to get out. Just.
This is a great tournament with an amazing line up, but I am confused at the lack of communication. I mean, there is no way the people involved were unaware of MLG's tournament, it being mentioned all over reddit, so why not talk to the organisers of MLG? Surely in the interest of giving people as many good shows as possible someone could have contacted MLG?

Otherwise will probably have both streams open
If you had actually read the tweets you would have seen that they planned the tournament and decided on the date when MLG had not announced their tournament yet.
I feel very bad with the schedule overlap with MLG, I had been waiting for them to bring back SC2 to their events for a long time. I had to lock down a date weeks ago and consulted the TL calendar very carefully, originally i wanted the tournament to take place on the weekend of the 18th and 19th but there is ogaming.tv's nationwar happening at the time so i moved it to 25-26th not knowing MLG's tournament was going to take place at the same time. Upon realizing that i seriously considered postponing but it's just not possible with IEM Sao Polo taking place the next weekend and the players i have invited all being informed of the schedule i had originally given them.
I think that with all the Starcraft II streams/tournaments there has been a lot of people have got used of following 2 tournaments/streams at the same time, not to mention both tournaments offering VODS for those who want to focus on 1 and catchup on the other later, i'm hoping people will find the motivation to watch both tournaments so they can each have the success they deserve !

When you don't respond to communication from your business partners, to a point where they have to contact you via twitter, where's it's out in the public. You don't have to be a business veteran to know that's not very professional.
And pitchforks? It's simply an observation, but it wouldn't be bad if we started to expect a minimum level of professionalism from some of the community figures.

I have read the tweets. Its been a few days since MLG announced the tournament. Surely the polite thing to do once you see the events will be overlapping would be sending a message letting them know, instead of leaving it the better part of the week and then blindsiding them with the annoucement.

You're right, i should have but i wasn't sure about the times you will be broadcasting at with the timezone difference, i have been spending all my time putting this tournament together and the rest of the time i tried to ladder as much as possible aswell as prepare myself for the upcoming tournaments i will have to cast.

How do we create crossover?
How about a winners match on Sunday? Our Winner vs your Winner I'll put up $500 as a pot bonus if we can do it on MLG.tv
Suffice to say, I will have to forego this tournament as I will be watching MLG. I think the lesson here for ToD is that the TL calendar alone isn't enough when scheduling major events.

People paying attention to other people in esports? NAH! Bubble world man.
Even though this event has a ridiculous line up I will probably end up watching MLG just because of time and when I am able to watch things. Will catch the VODs if I have time though. I know you are only supposed to contact blizzard if you event is over 10k or something but honestly if the player caliber is this high enough I feel like reaching out to them so other events know your event is happening would be a good idea.

It would be pretty amazing if we could take something unfortunate and a source of potential drama and instead turn it into something cool and awesome. There's a first for everything.
The overlap looked like a shitty situation at first, but if they can work something out with the times, and on top of that make these showmatches happen, this could be really fucking awesome!

Going to be another great online tournament as usual, and I'm glad to see MLG and this tournament could even get a crossover. Will definitely be on the look out for this one.
Well it's nice for once a potential drama actually gets resolved instead of ending in a twitter slapfight that gets all over reddit like how it normally goes.
Alright you know screw my negativity and angst earlier both sides want to make this work and if they actually did a crossover that would be brilliant. Will proudly be streaming both. :D
Wait, stop, hold the motherfucking presses. So some shit started, things were said on twitter, and the whole thing DIDN'T blow up into a huge shitstorm and a bunch of stupid drama? It actually turned into something pretty sweet that just about everyone was happy with? Who are you people and what have you done with the starcraft community?
Amazing work, Mr. Apicella. Very professional solution to what could have been a big problem. Props to ToD as well. I'd love to see this kind of cooperation more often
On January 13 2014 05:02 TotalBiscuit wrote: There needs to be a Skype group, forum or something to prevent these ridiculous tournament overlaps.
completely agree. A skype group will just be messy and end up as a super crowded chat about random things in my experience. When ToD refered to "the calendar" in his tweet, what calendar is this? It would be really nice to have an organised official calendar for SC2 events where one could "book spots" and advertise the tournament on there, thus avoiding overlaps etc. Other than the big leagues, international invitationals and small weekend tournaments seem to overlap a lot. It would be awesome to have SC2 regain popularity and this would help imho.
Also, the fanbase is only big enough for what it can support. I think it's better for the game to have 2 big tournaments with 10k viewers than 4 with 5k each.

Very bad organised tournament unfortunatly... - The mainstream has no overlay at all, not even who's playing each other! - It is really like !10-15! minutes delayed to the german stream... WHY? - There is no schedule... Liquipedia said Groups A and B would start 17CET, but it looks like, Group B will start later. But nobody knows which time-.- - Where is the announced stream of TakeTV?
Yes we ran into a lot of complications, Blizzard releasing a patch that does not allow us to cast the replays together, and my co-caster canceling 3days before the event. Doing the best we can to make the experience enjoyable. Group B will start after group A is finished
How can you have a tournament without a scoreboard? It's not like I will sit and watch one tournament for 6 hours straight and have it unmuted all the time, I want to be able to check back from time to time, but no idea who's playing every time I check out the stream.

Game 1, MC did a proxy 1 gate (with zealots/stalkers) into a proxy stargate off one base. Had some nice micro, finished the game when he pushed with 1 oracle + 2 VRs + a bunch of stalkers.
The other win was a pretty crazy base trade-ish game, Bomber's bio vs MC's templar opening, MC just ended up getting the better of the trades and bomber had no answer for storms.
