I remember that the first big tournament I watched after starting sc2 a few days ago was a MLG, so I always try to watch it live every time I can. It's a good memory for me.

Correct.
So two spots for KR :x
Each region is separate, 1 for EU and 1 for KR.
I know, just joking because I'm thinking ForGG, Golden, MMA, jjakji and StarDust will play the EU qualifier (if it's IEM-like). And we all know what'll happen.

Ooh, times like this make me wish we had some Koreans with better English. Can you imagine the irrepressible silliness of Hyun or the sly teasing of MC teamed up with TB if they spoke more fluent English?

Wasn't even being sarcastic this time ! I said this because I assumed, probably wrongly I have no clue, that there could be Axiom people in it, so you casting this could be fun ^^
Adam any chance the America qualifier will get casted by community casters?? I'd love to help out with coverage and would be happy to submit my resume/vods to anyone interested in looking over my work.

Lots of players have been asking us including Ret, TLO, etc.

glad to hear, but it would surprise me if the turnout would be big considering the costs to fly to anaheim ;_;

Indeed, back in the 2011 it was one of the most amazing tournaments, at some points it was even better than GSL(at least for me, GSL was TvT for a good part of 2011).
I can't wait, I really like that TB is casting this, hope to see a lot of good players and epic plays there.
Sheesh, well this is an exciting comeback for MLG!
I'm actually really jazzed for them to return to Starcraft and also to run Smash (a game I've loved and heard the rumblings of a comeback for, highlighted by the Liquid pickup of Ken and KoreanDJ).

TLO, Jinro, Haypro and co. were already flying to MLG's in 2010/2011, when it has a third of the prize pool. TL can afford flies over there, I think.
MLG should use some new maps in their main tournament.
Come on, pull a Red Bull Battlegrounds, pick up a few new maps and see how they play out! Most likely they'll just get veto'd out but you never know what could happen!
So much for supporting the American scene... Now we're going to see more and more European and Korean competition phase out players in what should have an American event.

There was a poll with almost 90% voting for these 2 extra qualifiers. MLG is listening to the community and that's awesome!
They can never please everyone but they are doing their best. A completely region locked MLG would quite frankly suck, just look at the old ones, they were that epic because of koreans. Boxer vs IdrA etc.. is what people want to see. This is good for the NA scene too as it will generate a lot more interest and NA players still stand a chance because of the amount of pool play slots and no travel costs being paid.
Brings back memories of my times at Columbus & Providence with my son (farvacola) who introduced me to SC2. I have followed SC2 for years now, only watching, never playing. I know this makes me an unusual fan - a middle-aged (I hope) woman whose hands cannot move fast enough to play but with a studied knowledge of the game as an observer.
I had not known this whole world existed and now, following the players, tournaments, streams and discussions has been an important activity that has allowed me to temporarily escape from the disappointments of the "real" world. Weird, eh?
Good luck to all those who try their hand in the qualifiers and to the tournament participants. Thanks MLG.

This sounds strange and amazing to me at the same time, very nice! :D
Unfortunately MLG Anaheim hits just before Proleague Round 4 ends, so it seems unlikely that Proleague teams will be able to put players in the qualifier. Still, it will be interesting to see which of the non-KeSPA Korean players make it through.
Actually I wonder if an open qualifier would be better? Depending on KeSPA interest it really could just be Acer-Axiom-Liquid-EG + free agents in the KR qualifier. Not that it's bad, but it could be more interesting with players from other regions.

Good audition for the Free agents. Maybe some B teamers will get a chance to play as well

I was at MLG Providence 2011 as well. It was an amazing event... especially Nani vs. Leenock finals casted by Tastosis... just wow!

I remember when MLG was at orlando in 2011? or maybe it was 2012. For weeks, i had to BEG my dad to go to Orlando, even though he had no idea what was happening and didn't know what starcraft 2 was, at all. I remember how patient he was, and how he just went over to the COD section to watch guys shoot at each other while my brother and i sat glued to watching our favorite players on the main Starcraft screen. It really was the best weekend of my life. I was able to get pictures with some legends like boxer while getting a major sugar high on the free Dr. Peppers, and i am so thankful you guys are back, thankful for the memories and experiences you have already given the SC2 community, and so over the top excited that you guys are back.

Thanks, means a lot. I like to think I understand the game more than I used to, but I prefer just to be able to do what I'm best at.
Idk why but I just naturally read every one of your posts in your voice, sometimes without even knowing that you're the one who made the post! I'll just read it in your voice and then look up to see who wrote it, and it's you!

Yeah, he was really really awesome. And he must of been bored out of his mind too, but he just sat there patiently, even feigning enthusiasm when Idra raged quit, or my favorite player Bomber (who was looking on fire after MLG Raleigh) beat a nerd in convincing fashion.
I don't think these are live, cause they're 'broadcasted' from midnight to 6 am CEST Probably already played and casted from replays (not sure tho)
Well according to the OP they had time till yesterday to apply. So if they are broadcasting it from replays, at least it is only a couple of hours old. Wonder who will broadcast it though, aswell as why this is so late for EU, afterall it is an EU qualifier and I guess the majority interested in this are people living in the EU
Ah don't worry about it Adam. After kicking Shadowrun, Halo and then Starcraft I'm just happy that I can tune in to MLG again after not having a game to care about at the last MLG and not watching MLG live for the first time in like 6 years.
Super hyped for Anaheim! Also thanks a lot for picking smash up again and streaming some Halo 1 recently, was really amazing to watch.

We have discussed to death about EU players/teams about outside EU in many other threads. Sponsors of (all except Alliance I feel) EU teams only care the presence within EU. That why we only see ~3eu players (from eu teams) at MLG/IPL etc. I am not sure about the location of TeamLiquid and Acer. If a EU player is one of best player of the world and he/she want to attend every tournament, there is a 99.99% chance that he is on a non-EU team. As far I know a lot EU people dont like outside EU.
EU Qualifiers will be live on mlg.tv/gameon tomorrow! - The guys at GameOn are going to try to hold back the broadcast until SHOUTcraft Clan Wars is over Clan Wars goes live at 2PM ET, and qualifiers will follow!

As that's really sweet, you have raised a fine netizen in young Farvacola btw !
Excited for this tournament, the atmosphere of these old- style MLGs is damn near unique and it taps into a storied history with so many shared moments. Think SC2 needs one of these and it looks like they'll deliver something great
Killing off your own drones to get more supply for your roach all-in is the manly way to play Catz, no wonder you don't do it on the other side of the pond!
I've never talked smack about casters. Ever (Go ahead, check my post history).
But man, this is just a really boring cast. I turned it on to show my buddy SC2 for the first time - this happened to be on - and it's just entirely unwatchable. Why are they just chatting instead of talking about the game at all? C'mon CatZ... this is worse than early SSBM casting, I have no idea why they can't carry a cast for 2 minutes without dead time.

Ah too bad you had to stumble into MLG when showing off the game to a mate, better to grab an old GSL vod you know is epic instead cause MLG sure haven't been focused on anything but chillax casters that rant and such.
I keep MMA vs DRG from the Blizzard Cup around incase a mate is over and wants to know what sc2 is and why it's the best thing since the wheel.

You're not missing much. The casters missed a huge ling all-in last game, focusing entirely on one base and talking about god knows what.
There have been a huge amount of cannon rushes today, from SortOf and Socke from what I've seen.

if you're looking for hype and shouting:
a) I don't like to fake emotion, there's barely anything at stake in the RO32 of a qualifier to a tournament
b) Almost every match today was between a known player and a lesser known player, making it predictable on that sense, there was no upsets until the last series
c) If you couldn't tell, I am sick / my throat hurts so even if I got really excited I couldn't yell.
If that's your cup of tea, then sorry your friend got bored and yeah you should probably go show him a Totalbiscuit or Nathanias cast, they are really good at play by play and much louder and eloquent than I can be. If you're looking for game knowledge and accuracy, as many people often times are - then I think we were probably more accurate than any casting duo you've watched, especially when it comes to zerg. We don't bullshit or feed wrong information - sorry its not your cup of tea, many people enjoyed the cast a lot judging by comments on reddit, too bad you didn't.
But don't "C'mon CatZ" me cause I didn't do anything wrong, we stepped up to cast a qualifier that would've otherwise gone uncasted and I think we did a good job, I was pretty happy with it at least, there are ways to present your opinion without being a dick about it. "I would like it if they yelled more" or "I wish they told me 'a supply depot is being constructed' instead of chatting to kill time while anything that's actually relevant is happening". much nicer than saying "this is even worse than..." nomsayin?

Honestly, that's a fair response, and I appreciate your candor. We, as a community, also appreciate you casting something that otherwise would have gone unbroadcasted.
a) No one is asking you to fake emotion or force yelling. That's not the point of a cast - yeah TB, Apollo and Nathanias are great at getting hyped, that's what they do. But you were taking casting a point where you were *expecting* your audience to have platinum+ understanding and awareness of the game. So yes - I wish you'd mentioned things that could only have been read via the construction tab.
b) Underdog stories are great for giving a little background on one or both of the players. How hard is it to talk about TLO's history instead of making random chitchat with your co-host?
c) I'm not here to debate your preparation and state of wellness, dude. While I can understand that you felt attacked by my post, if you weren't feeling well, why not give the spot to a lesser-known community member who might be itching for the opportunity?
I'm not trying to be a dick, but you have a certain level of name recognition that goes along with your brand. I was expecting some neat insights from a pro-player point of view, while also explaining why X happened, and that's not the type of cast it was. If you're not feeling up to the task on a particular night, let someone who might be less known cast in your place. And if you can't take criticism, I don't know what to tell you.

see that's the thing, I think you maybe didn't watch the cast or watched a short portion of it, because we did explain plenty and in detail and gave A LOT more insight and a lot more accurate insights into builds, predicted builds and explained the reasons for the predictions and were right almost every single time, because we understand the game, and don't just randomly go "oh most people go muta so i'll just predict muta" and then say "I think he'll go muta" and then be like "oh look muta, just like we predicted!" no, I think we were pretty good at explaining small details that are bypassed by casters (cause more often than not they don't really understand the game at a high level) and we did it plenty throughout the cast, so yeah if you watched the entire cast and that's your criticism, idk what to tell you! When you present your opinion as an absolute, that's one of the things that bug me the most in the world, when you say "that's not the type of cast it was" its annoying as shit, cause im fairly certain (feel free to deny it) you didn't watch the entire cast, probably not even longer than a very short portion and still feel like you can present your opinion as fact, if you said "I don't think that's the type of cast it was" it would be a lot more understandable, we'd disagree and i'd still think you probably didn't watch the cast closely, but at least you wouldn't come off as a complete dick in my eyes.
So now, did you watch the entire cast? (there's a rebroadcast running right now) do you need me to make a bunch of highlights to prove i'm not lying? or are you willing to admit you maybe just watched the start of a game and made a post that OF COURSE I feel attacked when you attack me, that's how that works, only irl kerrigan doesn't tell me.
If im not feeling up to the task on a particular night, are you honestly naive enough to think MLG will just give the spot to anyone that wants to cast? we have a studio setup and both commentators + producer here, its not as simple as "hey who wants to jump on skype? MLG that cool bro? and fuck no, you see, most commentators as you can probably tell by my post do not seem to understand the game very well... so no, im not gonna give my brand to a commentator outside the house who will probably bring in a lot more complains than the one dude in TL who thought we were boring, as much as you feel we did a shitty job, I think many people enjoyed the insight and the humor, some people may even prefer to avoid fake hype/excitement, who knows!
It's just targetted at more experienced players I think. And that's fine, people are just too used to fake emotions and overhype. It's ok to have this kind of cast from time to time.
Fucking hell, Catz sounds horrible. I had to speak for hours at university when I was sick as a dog a few weeks ago and it felt like some running a powerdrill through my brain. My sympathies.
This is such a weird tournament with all the big names that are missing. Ah well.
I asked MLG admins when they announced this if they actually thought that anyone was going to sign up and pay their way to anaheim, and they said a lot of good players like TLO had expressed interest
Sorry to be raising some technical/production criticisms but to raise a number of points: I'm unable to use my normal browser Firefox, which I can use with Twitch, etc fine. (Not a big thing and not something which would prompt me to post on its own.) The advertisement audio is 2-4 times louder then the stream (all the other match audio, combat, etc). Trying to access chat kills my stream. Chat wants a user account from another site? (There may be some option I'm missing but the chat pop up kills the stream and to clear it I've to refresh for another loud advertisement.) Cat's is a cool guy, he micros well and slays the dragon but can we get his microphone turned up? Can we zoom out from the casters faces? When I've a stream full screen to watch a match and it changes to these two giant heads...woah! (Please think along the line they do for news casters, sport casters if guidelines are needed.) The audio options are all or nothing, mute or unmuted. Considering the othre audio issues this is very limiting and a tad frustrating.
There is no way to feedback this information through the site that I can see unless I join up.
Edit: Also the volume option is in different places for ads and the normal stream. I've just missed the startof a game as I'd the stream on mute to save my ears. Edit2: Some ads ignore volume settings. Haha, I nearly had heart attack. :/
The funny Thing is that TLO was the main force Lobbying for EU/KR spots and now is (very likely) getting the spot. However I wonder why Liquid, Acer etc. didn´t send more players to compete in the qualifier. Granted, it`s more expensive to fly to the US but considering that there are only very few Koreans competing there is a decent chance for high placements if you are a top5ish European.

As I said yesterday in other thread. All EU teams (except Acer and Alliance I think) can't afford a trip outside EU (sponsor's don't support outside EU). Many many EU players dislike to play tournaments outside EU.
I remember two years ago (?), that MLG did a EU qualifier (only EU players are allowed to play) and paid travel for top4! Well known EU players showed no interest to play.
Are there no VODs from the earlier stages of the qualifier? Maybe I'm just dumb right now, but if they are up I can't figure out where they are on that MLG stream page.
I heard that call-out in the TLO vs. DeVIL game, CatZ :-P
In all honesty though, today's cast is much better - thanks. I didn't hear the entire cast yesterday, as you guessed, so maybe you guys were just tired at the end.
Either way, you stepped it up today and it was a much better broadcast.
wow surprisingly close call for TLO in the final. Don't take this the wrong way Krass fans. I know he can play very well and was in WCS EU Premier before and all that but I figured with current form that TLO would have it pretty easily
I hope Bomber participates in it and takes some juicy WCS points. Without additional tournaments there is no way high placements in WCS PL can guarantee the spot at BlizzCon

The invite qualifiers start tomorrow (15th), where can I find the brackets?
From Liquipedia:
Qualifier 1 May 15-18
- 28 players, single elimination bracket. - All matches Bo3 up to the finals which is a Bo5. - Winner qualifies to pool play. - 2nd to 16th place are invited to the Qualifier #2.

It was TotalBiscuit's video at PAX where he said he was tired because he watched his StarCraft team play in some team league was what introduced me to StarCraft after I decided to go and check it out:
This tournament was the first StarCraft I ever watched outside the GSTL. Sjow v Life and the Jaedong v StarDust finals was what got me absolutely fucking hooked beyond belief.
I now spend way too much time watching StarCraft, spend way too much money watching StarCraft and am utterly obsessed. And I wouldn't have it any other way.
Thanks for posting that video, it really gave me the feels as it was my first exposure to just how fucking incredible this StarCraft is. I have only been watching StarCraft for just over a year but it feels like I've been following it my whole life.

Doesn't really seem that way, I do other stuff while having this open muted in the background, but every time, I look at it, it is Catz vs guys, who are not in the bracket. I don't really see, what holds them back though, this is only one of 4 invite only qualifiers, if players don't show up just give them a defloss and move on.
Another tournament where KeSPA teams aren't allowing their players to compete. :/ Don't know why any player would even choose to join a KeSPA team honestly.

Do you think IM, MVP, and Prime are not Kespa teams? It's obviously not that they didn't allow, but any player in the other 5 teams just didn't want to participate this small tournament paying all costs.
Also, the schedule conflicts with proleuage season playoff where every player will be needed.

I guess this is not Kespa not allowing I guess it's because no paid trip involved
With that money, they could afford to send at leat one player to MLG The playing field will be quite weak, and a Kespa ace player could easily go very far and get a big prize money

Hah, this qualifier is so hard to follow, I want to watch qxc play but I'm not going to sit there for hours on the off chance they might stream the games.
So, there is a little trick how to see the results better - you can use your TL account to log into Liquipedia, that way you'll see pending changes including the latest updates of the qualifier page...
