Would have liked to have seen Hydras and Metabolic Boost thrown down immediately as Revival finished Lair and got a third instead of building more Roaches. Ling/Hydra would have done better against an Immortal push.

He was making triple phoenixes after those void rays were moving out. I'm sure we can all imagine the rest.

We get a lot of Korean Protosses who tend to be KeSPA and show to be strong in qualifiers or tournaments then fade away just as quick as they appeared, like MyuNgSiK.

Honest question, what is that state of the EG sc2 fan base? Do they have any fans that are not just fans because of Jaedong at this point? I never really see anyone talk about them anymore
actually I know Darkplasmaball is an EG fan but are there any others?

not really a fan of them just really like huk even though he might be the judas of sc2.
we talked in one lr about it not too long ago, the unholy alliance and the departure of idra really hurt them, don't think they will ever recover

I've never been a fan of them tbh. I've like Jaedong and I've liked some of there players (although for the most part I became huge fans after left like Revival), oh and Suppy's just a cool dude. But as a team I really have not cared for them.

It seems like the brand is shifting from EG to the individual players even further. EG has always emphasized the brand value of its star players (Idra, Huk, Stephano, etc.), but now there are even fewer EG fans, but the fanbase of popular EG players like Jaedong, Demu, etc. persist. It's become less of a team, and more of a collection of popular players.

Ded team
Well EG did abandon SC2 like it was a bastard child. They still pay some welfare checks to Jaedong and Incontrol and friends, but beyond that it's kind of an aborted project.

Half the roster is inactive or pursuing other stuff like casting or school, which is well and good, but JYP and JD does not a team make.
Xeno is promising, but I think he was a cheap pick up, and an NA Terran, which made him appealing. Suppy is in school but still does alright, Thorzain is in school too, HuK is doing whatever HuK does, and Demu has been casting more than anything.

It has always been a collection of popular players rather than a team. I think they are more team like now than they were when they were buying out big star players.

I would argue the opposite. EG used to emphasize team leagues, even as late as 2013 when they made huge investments in PL. Now they don't seem to give a shit about anything other than sending Jaedong to foreign tournaments, and are actively shedding players for a leaner roster.
Like right now, I'd say that Jaedong's individual brand is larger than EG's (which isn't surprising given that Jaedong is a BW legend). But even guys like Incontrol have created larger personal brands that take precedent over the EG umbrella brand IMO, which wasn't the case before. Sure you had stars like Idra, but it was always EGIdra, EGPuma, etc.

EG is basically the antithesis of TL
nah they are similar Jaedong & TaeJa HerO & JYP Demuslim & TLO TL has the Snute advantage

SC2L, whose finals were between TL and Acer at Dreamhack Bucharest with like the sick rematch of Taeja and Innovation, which would be the Dreamhack finals the next night.

I meant in the way that EG is basically just a loose coalition of players whereas TL is more like a family

Oh I meant on a personal level. Before they were mercenaries that didn't ever get along. Idra brought on Demuslim, but they ended up hating each other. They got Thorzain and Naniwa, who both hate each other. They got Stephano who went on to do Stephano things.
Now you have Jaedong calling Xeno after Xeno goes into mass depression on how to be a winner. You have Suppy and Xeno working together with Major to improve their game.

EG is basically the antithesis of TL
Well, for much of SC2, I'd say that both teams were very similar fundamentally, but just opted for different brand images. Both were very popular teams with solid financials and fanbases, and while both teams started with foreign rosters, both teams were among the first to be able to send players to Korea, as well as start the trend of picking up Korean players. Frankly, marketing branding aside, they are very similar.
Now, it seems like EG is divesting from SC2, while Liquid is maintaining its commitment to SC2 (though it too is moving into different eSports).

Yeah, that is really nice to see. I feel like EG has picked up less edgy players recently. JD, Xeno, Suppy are all players who you would assume to be good mannered, etc. as opposed to Idra, Naniwa, Huk, etc.

I actually want Mouz vs Dear rivalry. Let Dear get a personal sponsorship by CMStorm or something and just send him to any tournament where Mouz is playing to destroy them.

Well yeah VortiX has to go like 8-0 in groups and get destroyed in the playoffs
I'm now remembering Huk doing a weird, unique build in the finals of SHOUTCraft America Winter, and being asked in the post-match interview where it came from. His response was "I saw it from a guy on the KR ladder, I think his name was Pig or Piglet or someething?" After the interview, a few people tweeted to try and confirm who that player was - you know where this is going.

I would have liked to see how she would do against Happy or Welmu if he was playing better in this tournament but Scarlett didn't get the chance to match up against them

Not cold enough for Montreal to beat the Rangers.
I am from Minnesota and this hockey humor still falls on deaf ears. I am the one off, non hockey fan in my state apparently. I live in Saint Paul, Hockey means traffic sucks to me.

To be honest I'm not a big hockey fan at all, although I really like the sport and I'm "trying" to get more into it, I use trying very loosely. But I gotta root for my team, so yeah. Also it pisses off my Journalism teacher who's from Canada.

I've been watching cup stuff in the morning in lieu of subjecting myself to network news, mechanically I can see the interest, but growing up in MN, you get preconceptions about the people in the NHL. I personally grew up with two players who went pro, both were the biggest tools I ever met.

after years and years and years of balance whine we finally are there: pvpvpvpvpv and some more pvzvpvzvpvz.
BUT on the pro-side of things: pvp's don't take much time, cause they aren't back and forth like TvT is or sometimes even ZvZ, no there's the coinflip and its over

Only when I draw toss, which is unfortunately far too many times.

Storm has been used recently in some Korean PvPs. Zest also has been playing a lot of games with 0 Immortals, he ended up losing most of them but he was clearly on to something smart. Right now it seems that storm has its place in PvP but it isn't essential or matchup-defining.

Don't want to be an ass, but Hero won IEM when Protoss abuse of blink stalker timings and other early aggression against Terran was most egregious. Keeping that in mind, these were Hero's matches during the tournament
He basically used the power of early aggression against Terran, and scraped out a close comeback win against Jaedong to win it all. Not the most impressive of his tournament wins frankly, and it wasn't like he was playing at some sick level at IEM. He's always been solid, and able to take games off of top players, but there was a bit of luck involved in Cologne to get him that tournament win.

That was honestly one of the few times I've truly been impressed with HerO. His series against Polt was excellent. Especially considering Polt was a beast that tournament and had already taken out Rain and Classic to make the finals.

While I was rooting for Polt hardcore after his super sick series against Rain (best PvT series ever IMO), the way HerO played against Polt and against the others isn't really what you're saying. He used templars to great defensive abilities, and did some great harassment and army movements. I don't think you're giving HerO enough credit for winning such a stacked tournament.

I'm not saying that he's a scrub, but I think the power of the Protoss early game was really helpful for him to play at his best, because he forced opponents to play extra defensively.

tbh that made me angry too, but even a huge Inno fan like me was just absolutely disappointed with how poorly Innovation played that weekend, he just looked downright awful.

Hey, if I were in his position, I'd do everything I could to win as well. The worst thing a player can do is to become predictable.
That being said, I'm not too worried about Hero's career despite this setback. He's talented, he's relatively young still, and he has no serious injuries. Also, Liquid is a great team for him, and you know that they will keep on sending him to tournaments and supporting him. Just a temporary roadblock for the guy.

I'd like to see HerO in online tournaments again. Even if he doesn't do particularly well he doesn't have the pressure of a LAN on his shoulders and winning or going far in them boosts confidence. Or maybe it's just a mental block in WCS.

Alas, foreigners start off the day with success, but it seems like in the end, the Koreans are able to clinch it out. First we had Bunny and Harstem with their wins but Yoda fought back, and Huk had his win, but looks like Revival is coming to take back that Ro16 spot.

good news is major isnt starting off against the Korean terran this time to go WLL in his matches so he should advance :D

Thought he was at least better than this.
Idk something just went wrong for him after the iem win
Don't want to be an ass, but Hero won IEM when Protoss abuse of blink stalker timings and other early aggression against Terran was most egregious. Keeping that in mind, these were Hero's matches during the tournament
He basically used the power of early aggression against Terran, and scraped out a close comeback win against Jaedong to win it all. Not the most impressive of his tournament wins frankly.
HerO killed more than 600 SCVs in that entire tournament, and the win vs Jaedong was not luck, but also not entirely skill. Good micro from hero and poor decision from JD gave him win. Other than that, he outplayed all the terrans. Not to mention he doesn't abuse the same build everygame, he can macro, multitask, cheese, pressure, anything
What lost Huk the game? Lack of ground to air to support the phoenix? Maybe more voids sooner without losing the phoenix instead of rushing collosi against a scouted 2 spire upgraded zerg air army.
Earlier voids? Maybe someone who plays P or Z can tell me.

He's had some stacked groups in WCS Ro32, and losing twice to Huk doesn't help. I'd like to think that Hero has become a more seasoned veteran and less prone to nerves by now, given that it's been nearly 3 years since he's been with Liquid and travelling to tournaments. Problem is, nowadays even online tournaments worldwide are pretty stacked, simply because so many Korean players flock to them for extra cash, so it's not much easier.
But Hero's doing well in the ATC, so there's that.

you do add storm as a protoss, but not until you have enough blink stalkers and archons to stabilize your bases. if you rush to storm the mutas will just dodge it or regen and kill all your stuff

Out of the 6 players that have qualified for the RO16 in WCS EU YoDa and Snute were thee only ones I wanted to advance. I've had horrible luck with the others T_T

I was really surprised by Jjakji's results. Falling in the Ro32 is really really disappointing for him, considering how much hype everyone gave him.

at one point you will have a critical mass of phoenixes so you are trading effeciently even against corruptors but he kept microing poorly and therefore trading poorly, never reaching the amount you need, dt/archon would be also helpful at one point but he never had the room for a transition because as i said he never reached the right amount of phoenixes

So you can never hit with your templar that move at the speed of a thor without the sweet hitpoints?
but it's something to widdle the corruptors down so that your phoenix have a fighting chance
Templar cost a fuck ton of gas and storm isn't cheap either. You can't just throw them down to "widdle down corruptors". There isn't enough gas to go around on 3 bases.

microing poorly is being very kind to huk. corruptors flew into the phoenixes and the phoenixes just engaged directly with no micro and at least 4-5 died. that's like unacceptable submasters control. and then he just lost more and more phoenix to less horrific but still pretty bad micro, so he just didn't have enough in the end

Should have saved it for the Fall / Winter. That's when the big $$ are at: Dreamhack Winter, WCS, Blizzcon. He could have pulled the greatest Dear ever.
1st GSL 1st WCS Season Finals 1st Blizzcon

I never actually made my username in consideration of the two units, I use Phoenix a lot in my online names and I was playing around with Void here and there, so I said, "Why not combine both?" Only later would I realize my name was two Protoss units.

it's still really good against a player with shitty scouting. it requires a pretty specific response if it's done correctly. but that response shuts it down pretty insanely hard

I think he's just been always overshadowed by other zerg players specifically HyuN and Symbol when he was on TSL. He was just kind of one of those "other TSL zergs" even though he's had some decent success winning IEM and 2nd in WCS and all.

It's funny, I didn't really care for him when he was a WCS runner up and won IEM Shanghai (mostly cause I wasn't around for most of that summer) but he grew on me towards the end of his EG-ness, and I am really loving his play in 2014.

I remember Revival was playing against some random player and I didn't know who to root for so decided on Revival because he had the greatest hair style ever back then. But he never did well and just lost.
Now his hair just straight up sucks and I root against him on a whim, but he wins now. Guess that's Revival's key to victory, having ugly hair in my eyes.
