God bless BW intros. If Maru isn't sandbagging stuff for last few weeks, then it's 3-1 or even 3-0 for Soulkey. At least, i hope he's preparing to be cheesed helluvalot and summoned ladder cheesers to help him.
And in SKT T1 PvP, i don't really care. But if it's going to be Paralyze, will be sick lol. If starting map is Alterzim/Frost, then Classic 3-1, if little map - Paralyze 3-2.
So what are the chances Paralyze, Solar or TRUE will end up taking this thing? I feel it's at 2% but then again I never saw them getting this far as it is.

You mean their chances to win the tournament? From WCS Predictor -
GSL S2 Code S Zest has a ~ 26.27 % chance to win. This would increase their chances from ~ 99.99 % to ~ 100 % Soulkey has a ~ 17.95 % chance to win. This would increase their chances from ~ 21.88 % to ~ 98.42 % Maru has a ~ 10.56 % chance to win. This would increase their chances from ~ 26.11 % to ~ 99.98 % soO has a ~ 9.75 % chance to win. This would increase their chances from ~ 40.53 % to ~ 100 % ParalyzE has a ~ 4.73 % chance to win. This would increase their chances from ~ 6.95 % to ~ 90.83 % TRUE has a ~ 3.28 % chance to win. This would increase their chances from ~ 4.2 % to ~ 88.93 %
Heart: Paralyze and Maru advance. Paralyze only because I think he's the easier one for Maru to beat, and Classic did beat Maru 2-0 in the Ro32 last season.
edit: the other half of me wants Classic, Parting, soO and Zest to advance, so it's 3 SKT players with Zest and Zest wins his second GSL in a row, with a semi-finals consisting only of SKT opponents. Keep his SKT dominance strong.
It doesn't seem like the kind of thing that Soulkey would die too, unless Maru can hide it well enough that Soulkey doesn't build roaches and controls his lings horribly as usual

The super standardized LRs get kinda dull after a short while. Gotta spice that up a bit, just like any other relationship.
You can volunteer you know xD

I had exams on the 19th of May, and stayed away from all games and all streams for a month in advance to prepare. Studying is important, brew.
It's important to take breaks though, so I guess you can use that as an excuse.

yeah i already put in 2.5 hours today and i have the rest of the day for myself and my Latin texts. actually i'm translating some shit right now. one would think it gets less annoying when you've been doing it for a while, but at this point i get so frustrated every time i realize i have to look up a word in the dictionary.
I still can't believe that either of these players will be in the Semifinals, they are not the names you look at start of a season and say, Yeah they'll be in the Round of 4.

Haha i do, i have to go everyday But im sure that this won't last as long as Pro League casts do due to 1, being a bo5 PvP and 2 it starting 30minute earlier and having less breaks in between.
I will miss banking for Maru vs Soulkey though, that should be a great series :D

ParalyzE i can agree with, but Classic has been very solid the last 2-3 months.

Classic is easily among the top 5 Protoss players, together with Zest, Rain, herO and sOs. He is playing great, and is doing a lot better than Parting lately against both T and Z, and Parting is still great player.

I don't know what it is about him, but I haven't been convinced by Classic this season. I feel like he was much stronger back when he made his run at IEM Cologne, but this season he's just looked, I don't know, kinda sloppy and average. His round of 32 games were sorely disappointing, with him getting through by Hydra being even more disappointing. I don't feel like he's playing the way that he should be for Round of 8.

Yeah at the highest level it is mind mind mind games though so who knows. But yeah be pretty lol to lose 3-0 in a row because your oracle opening got straight up shut down and hard countered 3 games in a row xD
Classic PartinG mode confirmed. Fast 3rd!!!!!!
OMG ParalyzE going hit perfect timing? Holy shit ;o
Just a reminder that Paralyze made it to Code S last season in the Wildcard Qualifier - he had to scratch and claw his way in after a finishing 3rd in his Code A group, beating Trust, then beating 3 Terrans (the last 2 of which he had to play in a quintuple Round Robin) in a season in which PvT was more heavily Protoss-favored than any season this game has ever seen. And now, only one season later, he's in the Round of 8 and leading.

Ro32 maybe, but what about Ro16, with him getting first out of the group with herO, Parting and SoO in it?
All players are sloppy from time to time, but in the end what is important is playing good when it matters. I would rate Life and Rain higher than Classic, but they really didn't show anything in this Ro16, while Classic destroyed his group.
Thats what you get when you go home and make a 3rd when you have a 10-15 supply bigger ground army..... ParalyzE had it won, went home and tried to out macro Classic, however he didn't know Classic had 6 probes more than him.

They didn't, it just zealots evaporated immidietly under the archons fire. It was about the numbers, Classic probably had few more Archons and made a warpin round, when paralyze didn't made his warpin
On June 11 2014 18:48 Dingodile wrote: Both played Archons more in front than zealots. Is that correct way to fight?
Not usually. This scenario worked out better for Classic because Paralyze's zealots were charging into a timewarp and the archons got extra shots off by being in the front before his zealots charged around them.

Depends, I don't think it's worth it to put your archons in the front like that unless you know you have a timewarp and the other guy doesn't. Because it works against you too since your archons die to their immortals faster.
I'm not an expert on it though, my PvP is really bad and I'm more of a colossus player

A lot of that dominance has been put into flux due to the recent hellbat timings. I think its a bit too soon to say a certain race has a lead or not.

See what i would of done there is made a marine and killed overlord and went back home made 2nd rax for reaper and turned normal game with supply blocked Soulkey
i wonder if you could ever proxy the barracks in different locations on the map to fake out the proxy reaper when you're actually running 11/11 marines. would there be an actual difference in the end?

Wouldn't really make too much difference to the way the Zerg reacts though would it?
Man watching Soulkeys builds are things I think most Terrans would lose to (even other pro terrans) and I'd be super frustrated. But Maru just handles it all so well.
Making that 2nd big round of roaches seemed questionable. He interrupted a bit of mining on the 3rd but overall it was a lot of resources spent for little gain.
Maru is soooooooo good. That game was so impressive. How in such a scrappy game, losing units left and right, Maru manages to stay 100% on point with his macro and suddenly has 180 supply with 3/3 finishing up and a 4th base established. Even while microing frantically for his life he doesn't miss a beat in any area.

Merry Go Round isn't a T map in TvZ HSC should of answered that for you. Habitation Station is a T map for Maru in TvZ due to the shenanigans he pulls on said map. Floating to gold or just straight up 2rax.

Relative Mvp level maybe, but he's actually so much better than Mvp ever was (at least mechanically).
I don't think so, Mvp in his prime was like the alpha and the omega of SC2, nearly like what Flash was in BW.
no, no. Maru is pretty clearly stronger than MVP ever was.
Stronger as in better mechanics, crisper builds and smarter play (highly doubtful, by the way), or stronger as in just as in even farther ahead of the competition than Mvp was in his prime?

People will always fight about this.
The only fact we CAN measure is championships and money won, and even that isn't necessarily fair. Nobody matches Mvp's tournament winning accomplishments. Nobody.

How is Maru the underdog, bar his bad record v Soullkey?
because soulkey is a fucking monster, to put it politely
maru is amazing but soulkey is also amazing.
Underdogs I'd only use as a phrase if there's a big difference in class or something, but yeah. This rivalry is not comparable to Mvp/MKP, because Soulkey and Maru are equally good IMO :p
Genuinely wondering if Maru's been grinding TvZ hardcore lately, it's looked impressive whereas in the last few TvPs I've seen from him they weren't quite as good
I think Mvp and MKP were on the same level skill-wise at least a few times when they faced off, but MKP never stood a chance. It wasn't necessarily his skills that were lacking.

Don't think you can ever say about the money vs money war. Way more money in SC2 when MVP was good. Championships can be talked about but again people can mention the state of the game to what it is now to then.
I will always compare on korean titles won. And MVP is ahead...for now :D

Thats ofc true, watching Maru play is just awesome
I've never seen 2 base muta shut down so hard ever. But what really impressed me was the defense of that roach, bling attack, that was just unbelievable, the rest of the game was just a formality afterwards, but props to Soulkey for hanging in there when other zergs might have just died.

I don't really like winrate on map based from TLPD. I mean, every terrans will tell you that Alterazim is much zerg favored because of easy 4th and 5th, and huge distance. At the highest level where drop are countered quite easily, this map is probably the worst of all.

I don't know. I don't think these guy /Taeja can compete on the same level as Maru and Innovation. Polt is terrible in TvZ nowadays, Jjakji has big problems in TvP. As always people overrate ProLeague players more than ever. Let me remind you that the staple Code S Terrans left Korea. It might've been because it was too hard, but a lot of them got sponsors etc from EU or AM. It was probably a decision to get to as many events as possible, to not miss BlizzCon.

Yeah, I wish the game had greats like brood war. I wonder why they all fall and not one person conquers.

Maybe when the game will be "perfectly" balanced, we will see big dominance. But BW was way more mechanically based than sc2. In SC2 you can be on the top without being a macro god. Look at sOs or Polt for instance, both of them aren't really spectacular in micro and macro. I doubt they would have ever performed in BW.

Feels like SC2 is more volatile than BW, little mistakes mean much more than they did in BW and they cost you the win

Mvp was close to that level of dominance.
He basically had one year with a 70% winrate against korean opponents, that will never be reached again, he deserves special recognition for it imo. But obviously the competition now is WAY harder

ToD went for blink allin yesterday against Yoda.
Err, he did not. But for the sake of not derailing the conversation, success and consistency is highly dependant on the current meta and map pool imo. By highly I mean high high. herO just couldn't lose to terrans on yeonsu. Dear handled his lategame army very well before ghost and widow mine changes, blink play was one of his main strengths aswell.

No, we have like 8 terrans that are good enough for this difficulty.
Innovation, Bbyong, TY, Flash, SuperNova ?
Appart from Innovation, I don't see any of them reaching ro16 code S tbh.
TaeJa, Bomber, Polt, MMA, jjakji
10 I am talking worldwide.
I don't know. I don't think these guy /Taeja can compete on the same level as Maru and Innovation. Polt is terrible in TvZ nowadays, Jjakji has big problems in TvP. Bomber is Bomber so sometime he is the best player in the world, sometime he is weaker than me :3. I personnaly think that players like Reality, Fantasy or Cure are ahead of them too.
Really, I'd say Maru > Innovation = Taeja >>> the rest. Beside those three, I don't see any terran winning a championship soon.
Innovation < Taeja and it's not even close. I wouldn't say Maru or Taeja is better than the other.

Nah, Inno deserves all the praise he gets, guy's a beast man.
In terms of most consistently dominant it's more these top players go into monster mode and rape, then drop a bit. Beneath that you have guys who are always there or thereabouts but don't explode.
For Terrans in the last while you had Taeja wrecking, Inno showing up at the end of wings and first months of HoTs, Maru for the last bit and with the ascension of one the predecessor drops off a bit. Bubbling slightly below that (nowadays) are the Bombers and the Polts who can win anything on their day, but are less liable to stomp everyone on an extended period.
With Protoss see Dear, now Zest, with Rain and Parting sticking around but peaking less.
I would lose my shit if a bunch of these guys peaked at the same time, it'd be monstrous. Sometimes I think it's just mental fatigue, sometimes it's clearly patches having an influence too. Innovation showed the best Biomine play ever seen, no coincidence that his play dropped a bit with the mine nerf. Maru's midgame tempo style of TvP benefits more from the +shield damage than say a Taeja who plays for the lategame.
These guys are all monsters, just it's nigh on impossible to maintain dominance in SC2 while balance changes and yes, the mechanical margins are more compressed than in BW. As the game is easier, so it is harder as individual engagements and decisions take on more importance, getting everything right consistently is hard as fuck.

is this an incontrol quote, or is this incontrol's smurf account?
I always feel that when people bring up MVP, there should be a question mark of how dominant he could've been if it hadn't been for his wrists. At his peak, he was beating basically everyone else who was at the top (except mma, who lived in his head). Then wrists struck and he disappeared for a bit, and then back to back get finals, winning one. Doesn't matter if the competition is harder now, who knows how well he could've been without the injury? Even with it, still made it a 4th gel title.
And I it still boggles me that people compare taeja to maru. They are 2 different players. Maru plays amazing in prep style tournie (gsl, wcs) and taeja plays well at 3-4 day tournie (dh, hsc) s. And he has wrist injuries (ie practising for a specific opponent over and over not as easy perhaps?). I put more merit in gsl style, but then again its much like MVP. What I'd wrists weren't injured?
Objectively, I would rank it maru> Taeja~inno. (depending on form) and then bbyong.
Really love watching Maru's games. There's always a twist in a series, different builds brought onto each games, keeps his opponent's guessing. Imo if he approached this series with normal macro bio mines/hellbat builds it would be on soulkey's favour.
Personally i think last week cheese mode followed by no cheese at all today was brilliant move by Maru.

Didn't Mvp went on full on mech during his last GSL final againts Life (god mode then) because of his wrist injury? Not sure if its true, but it makes sense since mech takes easier on his wrist with a slower pace game than bio. He almost won that game with 4-3 score.
Could Mvp wrist problem cause him to practice less since then which lead to him no performing that well these days? Maybe
All in all i think he's the most accomplished sc2 player to date. Hope Maru can achieve similar or better eventually.
On another note: Maybe this is why Maru performed so "terriable" in PL; as his focus was on Soulkey, and Soulkey alone. Personally I agree with this choice; it both payed off, and he managed to shake off some old ghosts

Mvp has stated as much that he is barely able to practice several times in the past. I know he had a close series with Leenock that by the end he was saying he couldn't feel his hands anymore. Watching his play when his wrists started to give out, you can really see the difference in just how much slower he was getting and how he was changing his style to help compensate. I have no doubt in my mind that if Mvp's wrists hadn't given out, he would still be one of, if not the best player in SC2.

You need to subscribe to gomEXP for $50 a year - Which is less than $5 a month. So do it already!
Why? WCS EU and NA allow source quality streaming and has free vods.
If you're asking why GSL isn't free, it's because GSL is not a WCS event. It's a premier tournament that offers WCS points. If you're asking why should you subscribe? Because Maru is in it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You have to click the Twitch.tv link in the OP then subscribe to access the VOD service. It is like $50 for the whole season now or something, that is the only way.
