Scarlett? I think she should just win the Canadian qualifier, it would be easier. (Or maybe she will and will be replaced here) same for HuK obviously.

I don't think theres any rules against playing in both qualifiers, so why wouldn't they? They double there already pretty high chances of getting in.

Yes if they win canada qualifier, they will be replaced with someone from stage 1.

There isn't a canadian qualifier. That tournament is to determine a Canadian champion. IEM always has a host country champion seed for the tournament. Its separate from the qualification seeds from Stage 2. If someone who was invited wins the Canadian championship, they will be replaced in stage 2.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't this the "Americas" Qualifier? So people all over North and South America? Or is this Americans only?

So he thought that the open qualifier was in any country not of North, South or Central America. Interesting.
And just so everyone is clear, if Scarlett or Huk win the Canadian championship the replacement for stage 2 will come from Loser Bracket Round 8b in Stage 1 (The 4 players that lost in those matches). Its first decided by who has most wcs points, if that cannot get it down to 1 player, then it will be determined by players playing each other in a best of 3.
Dang man, Terran looking so good against Zerg since the buff. I thought it would be more minor difference but it looks so hard for zergs now. GG by elhaym.

The Thor change was huge, completely changed how the engagements play out.

ya the Thor change is actually super strong, kinda silly really. Have to micro most units to shoot air, why not Thors too...
I blame the fact that it's 02:00 AM for my inability to tell maps apart. Anyway, interesting strat form Sarovati, mass gateway units against mass hydra when down 60 supply.
I was afraid that Masa would throw it, as his population was not overwhelmingly superior to Scarlett, but you can't deny that 3 CC + early upgrades (3/3 and drilling claws vs 2/1) is the surest way to not throw the game
On July 29 2014 09:58 HEADD wrote: Terran is so imba now vs zerg....
I wouldn't say imba, you just have to be so careful against widow mines now and it's much more difficult to shut down aggression. So maybe slightly imba actually...

Once the 3CC was up against one mining base the game was basically over, he waited a bit longer than he needed too maybe but there was really no way to throw it.
Massive throw by Masa. Terran cannot afford to macro against Zerg without pressure. No attacks to defend? Make a million drones and hatches! Crushing economic defeat!
What is up with tournaments being anal about gameheart for no apparent reason? Is there some upside to not using the most spectator-friendly UI I'm missing?

I've heard some players don't like it because they feel it lags a bit, but I don't really know.

Why hate? Those cheeses were legit and perfectly played. I'm a bigger fan if anything now.
sad to see inconsistant scarlett though. this isn't the player we're used to seeing I think. I hope this isn't a sign that she's weak to cheese again like she used to be, I hate to see that after she's been doing so well

Sniping 3 queens, 3 lings and 4 drones and losing nothing isn't playing well? Maybe he isn't mechanically stronger but he certainly out played her there by kind of knowing her play style.

How do you beat someone the "normal" way?
Not cheesing?
Surely the better thing to do is play to your strengths? It doesn't make you a good player to go macro every time if you aren't capable of winning against a player like Scarlett. It makes you a good player to be able to come up with something that will beat a player like Scarlett.
Now the question is if Scarlett can come back through loser's. If she's still in Germany then it's super late there and that might pose a really big challange.

Eh, even if she doesn't she's still qualified for stage 2, so I'd almost rather see Kane or Hendralisk for that reason. (And Hendralisk likely will face her next round... If he's solved his ZvP issues this weekend. I have faith that he has).

Stage 2 is much tougher than this tournament though. If she doesn't win this there's no way in hell she'll get through in that bracket.
I don't want to be rude. I love Scarlett, but that's just being truthful.
I dunno Kev, I don't see any player in Stage 2 that Scarlett cannot beat. It won't be a walk in the park, but she's definitely a favorite to win it IMO.

She only needs to top 3 that. She can do that for sure. Which three players do you think will place ahead of her? Polt, Violet and ____? I wouldn't even be surprised if she beats at least one of those two, but I'm quite confident she's got a lead on the rest of the competition there. Maybe Major can beat her? I wouldn't count on it tho.

Well, Masa is in there and we just saw what happened (scarlett will certainly be more prepared next time though). Major is a big threat. A couple players in there can pull an upset too.
On July 29 2014 12:02 HEADD wrote: This whole Qualifier ist just crazy you lose to bones and scarlett to masa.. And huk most likely lose to kane. WTF is going on?
None of that is unprecedented to be honest. Kane's been playing extremely well for a while, and Masa's been slowly improving for about a year. Bones is a bit of suprise tho but unfortunately Hendry's struggled a bit with ZvP lately. I'm sure Scarlett will avenge him.
don't know if it's MSI's or IEM's fault, but doing the 2 qualifiers at the same time was such a dumb idea Huk is now playing in MSI vs viOLet, I guess Kane too since BastradeTV doesn't show his match vs MaSa both qualifiers are horribly long
Eh, a non-all in cannon rush isn't really cheese, it's just to punish hatch first and isn't designed to win the game. Only gives a temporary advantage anyway.

Come on HuK make the comeback I wanna see HuK vs Scarlett in losers semis! Overall I think I'm rooting on HuK then Kane then Masa then Scarlett then Sarovati in terms of who I want to see advance. (I'm confident that Scarlett can get through Stage One so rooting for as many Canadians as possible).

Eh, attacking is just suicide. He shoulda hung back and tried to harass/gone for a faster third. It's not impossible to come back in PvP, especially with a bad engagement.
Hoping for a MaSa v Scarlett rematch in the finals, with MaSa advancing, considering Scarlett has a good chance of getting Top 3 in the American quali.

They also downplayed the extra expo. Not only is that increased probe production (necessary for the comeback) but people always forget about the extra chronos which can be huuuge.

True, though they didn't really downplay it I don't think. It makes a big difference though for sure, I didn't doubt that Huk could come back that game.

If that's her weakness (which it historically kind of has been), other players are gonna abuse it. I think all the NA players who know her well know how to beat her. But I'm sure she'll come back stronger for this next qualifier, an on-point scarlett is one of the scariest things in starcraft there is.
Qxc is in Taiwan for the Taiwan Open, right? Might not want to bother with the qualifiers with the server lag, or might just have gotten his time zones messed up.

Anyway, not sure why Scar having wrist issues would be news, once you get them, they don't go away until you stop playing. Look at MVP.
Edit: I've actually won a game with that build on that map, though I went spines instead of roaches. The guy proceeded to move all his workers to his nat when I killed his main, apparently forgetting that spines can move. Good times.
It feels like Major's builds were so much more refined. Polt just wanted to go standard and do the usual dance, and Major just didn't want to dance. Really crisp timings and good use of the maps.

EDIT: Aldaris will start telling you that we require additional party hats.
Further Edit: Arcturus: They say a man never really knows himself... until his freedom's been taken away. I wonder, how well do you know yourself? Adjutant: Prisoner, step forward onto the platform. Arcturus: Convict 626... Murderer. Pirate... Traitor. Today... you go free. But as you'll soon learn... even freedom has a price. Adjutant: Combat suit sealed... and locked. Arcturus: You'll carry your prison with you. That armor will be your new cell. Make no mistake - War is coming, with all its glory... and all its horror. Mr. Findlay - your freedom awaits. *Tychus puts on party hat* Tychus: Hell... it's party time.
HuK beat viOLet the last time they played. I wonder if HuK or Illusion can take out Polt if Scarlett wins this series and we could see 3 non Koreans actually qualify

Huk's entire career is basically "can beat anyone". Just doesn't do it often enough to be consistent.
Illusion certainly can beat Polt if he mimics Major's style in their games.
Every time Scarlett builds mutas it gives me a heart attack, but luckily for her Violet missed his roach timing and then it was way too late by the time he decided to move in. Great muta play by her tho.

It's still spawns free units
It'd say it's more acceptable free units though. Not good game design but it isn't game ruining

Still better than roach wars #FreeMutalisks@NerfSpores
Also Huk has got to hustle, he has the WEC thingy in 30 minutes.

His first match is against qxc, though. Even if he's out of TWOP rehearsal or whatever, he's a patient and flexible guy.

I can't understand how you didn't believe in Scarlett! This qualifier was actually later than the RB ones, she only had to wake up at 5 instead of 3 am. In the Canadian qualifier, she was in Germany and played from 1 am to 7 am, RB she was in Korea playing from 2/3 am to 7 am

When I believe, she loses. When I doubt, she wins.

Besides the fact that starcraft is my main game, not hearthstone

This is the most obnoxious thing ever... Hydra push -> force colossi Muta switch -> force phoenixes -> corruptor /hydra attack. This is the story of PvZ midgame, we are only missing a ultralisk switch.

It's so hard to take a 4th against muta though.
that's also true. but overall i didn't like the way huk played this series too much. too many rather silly mistakes

yeah, not thrilled with Huk's play - having watched him in the last few qualifiers his play was underwhelming here, he has been playing well. violet really just manhandled him with the tech switches in this game.
Lots of people does this! No practice, bad conditions, other race imba, opponent being lucky, etc
Still this is boring to hear^^
Not saying it's false (for Huk or anyone else) but they just should not say things like that
How dare they express opinions on a website dedicated to such a thing!
No, i meant blaming their loss on other things than their own skill, that always seems like an excuse to me (some time it is true, some time it is not). It's not because twitter is dedicated to express opinions that you should say stupid things ! Of course Huk's frustration is understandable if he has ISP issue

I think Polt needed a better simcity, and keeping his tanks together instead of splitting them. Still really hard to hold on this map because of how huge of a concave you can take at the 3rd base

His positioning was kinda bad, not covering one side of his 3rd and not all of his tanks shooting + bio scattered around, not all fighting at once etc.
edit - see, when all the tanks are shooting, it is very defenceable.
