Flash getting the easiest opponent he can wish for in this tournament. And soulkey will probably play with one hand.
The two most difficult predictions about this group is deciding the winner of the winners match for soulkey vs flash and the winner of the losers match between classic and skyhigh...since they are both similar in skill.

lovers match sounds pretty epic xD
Skyhigh managed to qualify out of nowhere akin to MKnoP, Soulkey has had his ups and downs, Flash is a pretty safe bet (I guess) and Classic is still pretty solid.

He seemed a pretty safe guess in his GSL group as well.

Flash's GSL group had a ZvT specialist, soO, and a very unpredictable and strong player.
Where my Soulkey + sKyHigh supporters at? In each group are always people I don't want to see advancing and so far that's happening well so far! Let's see Classic and Flash drop out right here!
Calm down guys, Flash has been partying all week end long with his Parting Bro, he's totally jet lagged : managing to wake up in time for the event would already be a nice performance

Even if he's jetlagged and hung over, Flash will advance from this group. Skyhigh sucks, Soulkey lost his passion and Classic is nothing compared to Parting. At worst, Flash will advance in second after Classic.
Well in the first group we had a big surprise (MKP) and a favorite (Innovation), both were terran. In this group we have a big surprise (skyhigh) and a favorite (Flash).

I'm a scaredy cat though... and also the issue isn't getting up, it's falling asleep early enough so that I'm not a zombie at work....

who isn't a zombie at work though?
A few of the keeners, but even so operating on 2 hours of sleep a night is real bad for my health, and I'm not healthy to begin with...
Actually get to watch the games from the beginning today, going to study Soulkey. Hopefully he gets 2nd place and has a 2-1 every game so I have 9 games to look at.
I need to get to the gym for ~45minutes sometime tonight... do you think I'll have time between Flash in the first set and Flash in the winners finals? I've never timed these things, how long does a set + ad breaks either side take?

We have no idea what kind of shape SkyHigh is in, or what kind of shape Soulkey is in, and whether SkyHigh will prefer bio/hellbat timings or try to go into mech. It's anyone's guess.

A CJ Terran who was better known in BW. But in SC2, this is basically the first time he's ever really put in results to make an appearance. Who knows, maybe he'll be as good as Bbyong?
Even if Flash won that last engagement, I'm most impressed with Classic after that game. Hanging on vs mass drops from terran after losing your colossi early on on that map is almost impossible...
Classic may have been phased from all that drop defense because it seemed like he just left his templar there to die. Or maybe Flash EMP'd them before they got a chance to do anything? It all happened so fast..

you do realize that was 5 years ago right?
Well it's his only meaningful achievemnt might as well point it out . I am impressed though that he hasn't retired yet . Effort , Movie , Snow and even Hydra left CJ , but he still hangs in there .

Hanging on = not leaving? Classic was out-multitasked every step of that game.

Yup. Good memory that. He was definitely a decent Terran for a period in the BW days. I'm pretty stoked to see how he performs tonight, I've noticed he's been beating some bigger names in a few qualifiers in recent months.

He wasn't outmultitasked. The biggest mistake he made that game was taking the forward third. That's basically inviting terran to drop you to death no matter how well you're defending

I agree with this estimation. Had the taken the closer expansion it would definitely be easier to be defended.
Soulkey spawns in the top right sKyHigh spawns in the bottom right
1:00 2rax in the upper center of the map from sKyHigh. Soulkey goes hatchery first followed by a spawning pool.
2:00 Soulkey sees the 2rax instantly with an overlord. Bunker starts from Skyhigh right under an overlord. Soulkey pulls drones.
3:00 Zerglings finish. Drones go towards the barracks?
4:00 Zerglings aren't able to be effective due to kiting + zerglings. Spine finishes for Soulkey
5:00 Skyhigh building another bunker in Soulkey's natural. but now all of Soulkey's drones are trapped. Zerglings surround and kill the bunker and drones get home. Skyhigh continues to build marines at his proxy barracks. Soulkey getting another spine at home while killing off marines from the proxy. Skyhigh uses his barracks as a shield for his marines. CC and 2 refineries start at home.

wasn't it because he didn't get Blink because he wanted to make a two-colossus no-lance into quick Storm? So then you can't blink from the high ground down to the low-ground third.

I'm not talking about his clumsy defense, which is as you say related to his third choice. I'm talking about stuff like Classic leaving his warp prism just parked over Flash's base... not only not warping in harassing units, but straight up giving Flash every opportunity in the world to take it out, which he did. Flash's unit spread before the final battle was gorgeous, too, he was spread wider than an entire screen, while Classic couldn't even be bothered to split up his HTs.

hatch first is the best counter. Else you can't build spines. Gas is nice if you want to counterbust, but in tough 2rax situations as this one it kills you, so much less money for lings/spines!

Meh, Flash still plays hellbats TvZ most of the time. If SK is prepared for that it shouldn't be too hard.

He can and probably will beat SkyHigh, but unless he goes full Soulkey vs Innovation, he has no chance against Flash imo. I guess I don't know what his ZvP is like, but I'm not optimistic.
Meh, Flash still plays hellbats TvZ most of the time. If SK is prepared for that it shouldn't be too hard.
I didn't feel good about the way he handled the Hellbat push in g1, honestly. He wasted half of his Banelings to kill like one Hellbat. It looked like he wasn't even paying attention.
How important is it to run the banes into the worker lines in the attacks on the 3rd/4th in the early late game? Is that the actual kill move or is it just a really nice thing to do that will solidify your lead?

yeah, for a moment I thought he was done there. But that looked more like a fluke since he was doing quite some damage with muta micro in the meantime. I think SK looks quite solid in these games so far.

I'm not really sure, attacking off-creep with ~60 Banelings was a pretty bad decision, he was ahead and he would crush Terran on creep or with flank, but he simply threw away way too many units and did very little with that amount of units.

Nah, Soulkey is the sole key to solve zerg underpoweredness. Winning a GSL final back when terrans were MMMM-ing it up, and now bringing back that swag when the mines have returned.

yup, but if you scout long first and then short you cover the two nasty two rax spots on the highground by default and a fast natural scout is currently near useless in TvZ.

SK won because flash tried to kill SK with his timing, instead of killing the third, and Flash got swamped by SK's reinforcements. After that, it was just for SK to counter the army-less Flash.

stoked for Skyhigh vs Flash. hoping the the games will be long macro games, mech vs mech... and this matchup could feel like a real throwback to the BW days

Do you guys even math?
If Bbyong fails to advance, 1/2 zergs, 4/8 protoss, and 3/6 terran advance. If Bbyong advances, 1/2 zergs, 3/8 protoss, and 4/6 terran.
I think he meant zerg has the highest guaranteed advancement rate but that's tied with Terran.

Like I said. Either all 3 races are at 50%, or 50% isn't the highest.

Just the typical Flash choke in group stages as usual. Win the first stage with flying colors, lose the winners stage, go on tilt, get rekt in the Final stage.

He killed the third for Flash.
You've been reading my LRs too much
Haha. I have this problem that I think of a word but type something else, and then forgets to reread my post before posting.

It's less choking and more that the games are less prepared the later in the group they are. The format just sucks for him. There's a reason he's so dominant in proleague.
Wow, SkyHigh is kicking all sorts of legitimate ass today. Why the hell was this guy never fielded in PL this year? No way he just got this legit in two months after the patch...

Now watch skyhigh play an uninspired game two and three and never see a televised match until a meaningless PL thing that he'll lose and then disappear after.

shorter matches, he was competing with bbyong, effort, hydra, herO, byul, gumiho, hush, sora for spots
i think people dont realize esp in tvt, unlike zvz or pvp, the army/econ buildup is slower and steadier, so trading a ton of hellions for workers doesn't put skyhigh behind because there is NO WAY he doesn't do damage with a counter to equalize.

Well, without the attack killing the third, he was definitely dead

Even if he's jetlagged and hung over, Flash will advance from this group. Skyhigh sucks, Soulkey lost his passion and Classic is nothing compared to Parting. At worst, Flash will advance in second after Classic.

Nop, implying only MK and skyhigh, and partially Soulkey due to his recent results.
If they're "bad" then why/how did they qualify and advance?
Because everybody except for past champions are "bad". It's not like you have an entire korean ladder full of awesome players, capable of beating any of one another....
Who could have predicted that MKP, SkyHigh, and Soulkey would get out... and Soulkey would look the least convincing of the three.
The thing I really love about the way MKP and sKyHigh won is it can't even be argued that it's some patch thing. MK was actually playing a style that was a complete 180* from what we've seen him do in the past, defensive, reactive, smart. And SkyHigh beat Flash in what appeared to be a world-class TvT, no balance issues there. Even if Classic was getting really shaky and wobbly and tilty, SH was doing cool moves in that series that would have steamrolled lesser Toss.
Very exciting time to be a Terran all of a sudden.

I didn't like either of them in that series. But I think SH's play against Flash and Classic told me more about SH than Soulkey's play against Flash told me about Soulkey. I mean, Banelings are Banelings, you know?

Once a year some "random" guy qualified and u automatically call him as a good player? Strange french terms I feel :D
Not strange you just dont know a lot about Starcraft
How did u came to that conclusion? What if I got a different point of view and cheering for guys that opposit your favorits?
Cheering for different players is absolutely not a problem. Saying that players you don't like are bad and "random", especially when they are established in the SC scene for so long, however, is problematic.

I agree to this point. To be honest I also counted SkyHigh as unlikely to make it. I was wrong. So yes you can say they're not favorites for a match, BUT just don't say they're nabs when they do make it through...
Don't you think the list is starting to be a bit long for a "bad player having a random fluke" ... ?
Any achievements in sc2 this year he got? Any prizes?
So when you don't have a lot of achievements you're a bad player. But when you're a bad player you don't deserve to advance over "better" (ie with more achievements) players. How is this supposed to work? Oo sKyHigh worked his ass off all year long in the CJ house, helping his team prepare for PL. This tournament is basically the first time we see him of the year, he beats awesome players both offline and online. I don't see how he's "bad". Unless clear imbalance, the better player wins.

You calling players that advanced by playing well through and through "nabs" played a part
In comparison to players who didn't advanced they are still in a role of nabs I think, two days ago ppl were happy about "buried" (we even got a topic about this) MarineKing smashed his group, and today we got skyhigh who is relativly unknown person (with Terminator), and I won't be surprised that MK will be outclassed by Rain for example next round. What would u say than? The same with skyhigh. I'm not bashing them personally, let's say I'm VERY surprised by such results.

Okay, maybe I was also wrong, was hoping for Flash and SK to come out of this group, Classic still doesn't deserve, he's too much overrated. Todays results even proving that more. MK advanced and that's pretty refreshing at least, but skyhigh, I've played him some online tournament and lost 1-2, and now he's advancing from such hard group beating 2-0 flash in decider, I've gotta weird feeling.

Well, you know, players can get better (or worse) over time, and won't play the same way depending on the tournament they're playing in. The fact that sKyHigh is relatively unknown has nothing to do with the fact that he showed very good games today, beat a Code S champion from this year and beat Flash. If you want to evaluate his skill level, you'd be better off taking today's games as a measurement instead of his past achievements.

How did u came to that conclusion? What if I got a different point of view and cheering for guys that opposit your favorits?
I agree to this point. To be honest I also counted SkyHigh as unlikely to make it. I was wrong. So yes you can say they're not favorites for a match, BUT just don't say they're nabs when they do make it through...
I get your point. Maybe I was a bit emotional which not happens often. New faces in our scene is always a good thing (but not when thay are eliminating fan favorits). :|

Nop, implying only MK and skyhigh, and partially Soulkey due to his recent results.
If they're "bad" then why/how did they qualify and advance?

By definition new faces are more or less bound to eliminate "fan favorites" at one time or another. The "omg only lucky cheeser" of today is the "fan favorite" of tomorrow.
Wow. Soulkey 4-0-ing his group is really surprising for me. His recent results suggested, that he is in a slump, but maybe he will return to being one of the best zergs again. Classic not advancing isn't really big surprise for me, since his results are really unpredictible, sometimes.
sKyHigh is huge surprise for me. His results in ProLeague wasn't very good, and he hasn't played many individual tournaments this year. But i hope he can keep up and i wish him good luck in the rest of the tournament.

2015 hasn't even started and u are already worried. Care about ur nervs before switch to LotV :D
Another tournament, another laughable performance by Flash. Can we finally admit that his invite to this was pointless? Life should have been invited and its a travesty that flash comes out of this with any wcs 2015 points.

SC2 Flash's Law: For every great success Flash has, it will be immediately followed up by a severly disappointing result.
What is with this absurd fascination with results? Flash played a great TvP series, an unfortunate TvZ series that could have and does occasionally happen to every Terran under the sun, and a fantastic TvT that he happened to lose because there can't be two winners. Just because he lost doesn't mean he played poorly. FFS.
Don't you think the list is starting to be a bit long for a "bad player having a random fluke" ... ?
Any achievements in sc2 this year he got? Any prizes?
Lol dude, seriously. Do you know the record of one of the best players of 2014? It's that (forgetting the MLG invitational, it wasn't relevant for this list):

More reliable than Bomber's Law
Well it really bugs me too much, I'm gonna try to find time to analyse success rate of players the week after they got 1st or 2nd place in a foreign tournament, cause really I think it has been very low since I follow sc 2 (begining of 2012).
Going to europe, playing all weekend long, coming back to Korea playing 3 days after is really a challenge and Parting is not safe at all for tomorow's group...

Unless PartinG's PvP is going to be worse than death tomorrow, he should advance with ease. I'm more inclined to say that Zest isn't going to advance but we'll see.

Bomber won the seasonal global finals of WCS last year, Flash has nothing, that is a bigger success than that (SC2-related, that is ofc, otherwise he surely has).

Laughable is a bit harsh. He still defeated GSL champion and BC/Kespa-cup-semifinalist Classic, sure he can't furfill the expectations of his hype-train, but that train is pretty big. Also I don't think, that he gets any WCS points, since he was a direct invite and didn't advance a round. sOs had a cimilar performance in the groups of RBBG Washington last year and didn't get points, so Flash probably doesn't get points now either.

Liquipedia says 125 points for not doing anything (oh sorry, beating classic!). It seems really unfair that he gets 125 points for essentially a popularity contest. But I guess it doesn't matter. Its not going to be enough to get him into Blizconn 2015.

And Homestory Cup regularly invites players and then gives them WCS points for winning two series (Flash won one). Far less deserving players than Flash have gotten, and will continue to get, free points just cuz. This is not worth moral outrage.

no Flash does not get those points, invited players must advance at least 1 round in order to get WCS Points in any tournament, Flash is still at 0 points
I know we all would've liked to see the fan favourites advance, but with the quality of play people like MKP and sKyHigh have brought to this tournament makes up for that completely! What a spectacular final series.

Whether he's bad or not, he's definitely not a "nab".
I am unhappy with Ryu Won's newest performers. I take it he must be on vacation or didn't give them any strategies for this tournament and is saving them for proleague and Code S
