My T key broke on my previous laptop, I think it was from typing t in the URL bar to go to TL.
why would TL ever not be open?
Sometimes I open up new windows or tabs and go to a different part of the site. Although I have fixed the problem by putting TL on my favorites bar so I can just click on it.

Always sad that these aren't broadcasted, but I'll probably camp results and post here so people know. Other than that we'll all be F5ing the night away

I was surprised to see the list of players be underwhelming, but then i remembered that there are 32 people who aren't playing cause they qualified last time :D

One morning one afternoon qualifier. Pretty sure it's always been this early for the morning one. Maybe it started an hour or two later in past years idk

I meant early for the date, not the hour. Ro8 of season 1 hasn't even been played and will probably be played during these qualifiers x_X
Afternoon will be fun, guess I'll just stay up all night. I could see Sora or Patience making it out of bracket 6 too, they're both really sick tosses.
I'll have to miss this thread since I'm an idiot and have a paper to write at the last minute, but I have faith in xpaperclip to keep everything updated so I can at least make the occasional check-in
It seems no one is actively doing Liquipedia at the moment so I'm going to switch to pushing to the live page automatically for now. If someone takes it up, make some noise so I stop blowing away everyone's changes every few minutes.

Pigbaby Aphrodite
Can you really put a sad face for Aphrodite? I mean it would have been a miracle if she took even one game
And turns out Group 2 Ro4 Match 1: Pigbaby 2-0 TANGTANG anyway. Also Group 5 Ro4 Match 1: Bbyong 2-0 Choya was reported on Twitter a while ago but only now has made it to the bracket.

Yeah I know I'm starting to get worried for Maru in IEM. I think people are really selling Patience short and kind of looking at it like a walkover but it looks like Patience is back on top of his game

Kinda sucks, even though you can't ever have perfect qualifiers being able to attend both sessions reduces volatility and allows good enough players to make it.

Yeah GSL qualifiers have always been extremely brutal especially when it comes to bracket luck. Are the Korean tournaments the only ones left that do just 1 round of qualifiers instead of multiple?

It's being pushed automatically from the official brackets, and they have the error. I guess the morning session is quieting down so maybe it's time to switch to manual updates.

These qualifiers feel very random... I doubt we would see stats/zest lost to those opponents in televised matches. Its a perennial issue, but I wish they would would change the way players qualify for a big tournament like Code S. It seems incorrect to hinge all of a players televised skill on a match played at a pc bang in front of no-one.

Well that and the Code A qualifiers are literally harder than most foreign tournaments so it would make sense to actually fucking stream them

I mentioned this earlier..Winning a Code A is probably about as difficult as winning the current season of WCS Premier.

TANGTANG is a malnourished peasant missing an arm who is dying of dysentery. Still good enough to beat Zest though.

After a year of such extraordinary brilliance, there can only be one satisfying conclusion for Zest. His quest for perfection can only end one way. The elephant in the room, KeSPA's triumph over eSF and the organization's ideals all culminate in one event. Zest represents their superiority like nobody else. He is a symbol of their power, their dominance and deep rooted tradition. No player has been able to rule SC2 as others did in Brood War, but if Zest keeps performing the way he has in 2014, then he will inevitably follow in their footsteps. More than that, he will pioneer a new kind of authority that this game has not yet witnessed.

Ahh that is kinda tough should played in the morning TT. His ZvZ has been really good though. So long as he gets past Crank I feel safe with double elim.

Could be. But we didn't see the games, Flash might have been on a roll and crushed straight through him. Sometimes he does that. But the issue for sKyHigh starts at "if he had beaten Ruin".

DRG has been in Code S like forever and every time he wins a series someone claims he's back.
Maybe it has something to do with players during that era? Feels like Leenock is back every now and then as well.
How many "backs" has MMA had now, all of them legitimate? The OTD's never been such a slingshot in terms of public perception and noted results as MMA.

Really curious what's happening in group 3 where Bunny v Hurricane seems to have stalled forever. Guessing it's just another case where it's over and the result hasn't been reported.

Didn't manage to watch this but a lot of good players made it. Sad that Leenock and Revival didn't make it through, and it is weird to see Zest, Stats and Classic falling down.
So weird to see Zest lose by the way, if he aces for THAT KT lineup he has to be doing well in practice at least. He keeps saying his matchups are all fairly equally good. Mysterious stuff.

Like he did today. He advanced one round in Code A qualifier before losing 0-2 to Hyun. Zest lost to friggin TANGTANG.
soO!!! Sad for Jjakji, Losira, Keen. Not sad for Zest and Stats, that's just bizarre. Get your shit together KT. I'm so thrown by their failures, I can't even make myself be happy for Flash.

But you'd think that he actually DOES play well in practice if they keep fielding him as ace. And I don't think it's a nerve issue, Zest isn't exactly known for that. The games vs herO yesterday he got very unlucky but also made some uncharacteristic mistakes. Just seems off atm, which makes me wonder why he's still considered their ace by coaches.

Well we've seen in the past that coaches sometimes make strange decisions, which appear as genius when they work out and as totally retarded when they don't, so I wouldn't read too much into Zest being KT's ace.

Is it really weird to see Zest lose, though? Been seeing a lot of that recently, and it's not really a surprise. And I don't see why you think that he has to be doing well in practice if he gets put out as ace for KT; KT have shown repeatedly in the past that they're the team to play favorites and start the popular players rather than the ones who are the most skilled - Flash and Zest playing (Zest twice), while Stats and First sit, for example.
He keeps saying his matchups are all fairly equally good. Mysterious stuff.
Well, he can say whatever he wants; but statistics have shown that throughout all of Zest's career, he has almost always been consistently bad in PvT and better in PvP. Furthermore, during Proleague Media day, Zest made that comment about how "whichever team has the most Terrans will win Proleague," which is a pretty obvious tell about what his opinions are regarding races and matchups...

He's sent out as ace because he's popular. Simple. It's a Korean television show after all, and a business. There are advantages to playing the guy with Zest's face and body over the guy with Stats' face and body. And like I said above, KT has shown in the past that they are more than willing to make decisions based on popularity. We all know that if Flash wasn't Flash, he wouldn't have been starting every week given the play he's shown in his matches this season.

Yeah that's true. As for the "popular player" thing, I don't buy it because if they really would want that they'd field Flash instead, as much as I like Zest just compare the fangirls screams when Flash wins a game and when Zest wins one and you'll see who is the more popular.
And wow, I just looked, Zest lost to TANGTANG? As mediocre as I think Zest is, getting first rounded by TANGTANG in the qualifiers to get into Code A is a surprise even to me. I expected him to take a series or two, at least, before dropping out.

You're making an unnecessary and incorrect assumption there, though - disregarding the "popularity" factor because you say if that was the case, then they'd send out Flash. But that's not necessarily true, as they do intend to win the ace. Sending out Flash in his current form would just be possibly the worst choice statistically as ace, despite him being the most popular player on KT. So they choose Zest, someone they think has a better chance of winning the ace than Flash (which isn't saying much), but is still a fan favorite and an attractive face for their brand (again, PL is a television show in Korea, after all).

I'm happy to learn that I am incorrect, and that you and your overpowered knowledge know what goes through the mind of KT's coaches and decisions makers, as well as knowing that FlaSh's in house stats are worse than Zest's. I'd like to hear this explanation. First game against herO specially, because I felt like he was playing poorly (scouted Dark Shrine but ran his obs across the map, said obs saw stalkers moving out of herO's base yet didn't bring his phoenixes back for the battle, phoenixes chilling there doing nothing...)
Game 1 vs herO he was ahead even after the DT and then built immortals to bridge the gap to his own blink finishing. Not bringing his phoenixes home was the big mistake that cost him (I don't remember his obs scouting the stalkers). If he does that he holds super easily because herO's timing made no sense at all.
Both games vs creator as well as the ace vs herO were build order losses.

Both games against Creator pretty much reached late game, speaking of a build order loss at that point seems weird. In game one against Creator, Zest canceled his +2 attack like 3 times aswell, which was just odd. In the ace against Creator he took a good fight, was ahead and then lost all his colossi by overcommitting.

Well good thing I don't turn to you for PvP advice then! Because it made no sense and if Zest brings his phoenixes home, herO loses the game right there.

I see. I guess he underestimated the amount of herO's stalkers and thought of using the phoenixes to kill probes and seal the deal. Still, the DT thing didn't make sense to me, did he think "ok I'm gonna let this DTs do some damage because I'll be ahead anyways, and use my obs for scouting the follow up"? If so, he failed to scout the follow up correctly because it killed him.

Oh and I agree, if Zest bringst his 6 phoenixes home on King Sejong, he crushes herO, who used his own phoenixes to make sure the immortals can't really fight.

3gate blink/robo vs an expand build IS a build order loss, it's as far behind as you can fall with that build. It has no potential to pressure and it has an expand that starts when Creator's is already done. In fact, Zest played a ridiculous game in the ace vs Creator to kill his army but he was never ahead. He had one timing to try and win the game (Creator had better upgrades and another one finishing, as well as a 4th going up. He was on a timer and Creator barely held his attack with DTs. Both games he played from a gigantic deficit and did all he could.

My guess, which should be anyone's, is that he didn't look at the dark shrine when he scouted it. Zest had the same setup as herO's, it was only a few seconds behind in blink. He was building immortals to bridge that gap. So really herO tried to break someone with the exact same setup as him, defensive immortals against none, and overcharge, and a phoenix advantage. It worked because Zest messed up and didn't bring the phoenixes home, going for probes instead to interrupt production and overpower herO's army that way. It only worked because Zest messed up. He was still ahead after the DT though because his phoenix advantage is much much bigger than the two probe difference at the end of that.

I see. Well, I don't Protoss and these games were a while ago, so I guess that skewed my perception. Nevertheless, Zest royally fucked up in game 1 against herO.

Btw surprising results today o.O
AFAIK PvT has always been his worst match-up. He's just having issues all around these days. His PvP results recently aren't explained through patchtoss alone for example.
Well, those I can break down for you and explain that he played very very well and got really unlucky. Especially vs herO and creator.
While that is a fair point, you could easily just 'break down and explain that Zest got really lucky' during the finals that he won vs. soO and during the period of time when he was good (during the undisputed reign of Protoss, and with PvP being his best matchup). So you can't keep explaining away his losses as bad luck, or him 'just playing poorly,' and say he's still a great player - or you validate the argument that his wins are just good luck, his opponent 'just playing poorly,' and that he's nothing but a patch toss.

People from KT (players and coaches) also keep saying Stats is not doing so well in practice (nothing special) as in official matches and he still keeps outperforming every time.
He's consistently aced for them though, not like they randomly made a crazy choice to send him out once.
Yeah that's true. As for the "popular player" thing, I don't buy it because if they really would want that they'd field Flash instead, as much as I like Zest just compare the fangirls screams when Flash wins a game and when Zest wins one and you'll see who is the more popular.
You should consider applying for a job at SKT, they'd be happy to know how KT works from the inside.
I have a very prestigious job, so I'll put the SKT application on hold for now. And I don't really think SKT needs my help right now, nor does KT need anything else stacked against them. They have enough woes already.

I hope i'm not late to the Zest PVP`losses analysis. Something very interesting happened in that match where Creator barely held his attack with DTs, which is the same one i assume that Elementos said he overcommited and lost his colossus. Those DTs held the attack that would have worked and won Zest the game if it weren't for them. Unrevealed DTs do that. Revealed DTs die quickly and do nothing right? Did you guys see why Zest had no observer in that fight? GO WATCH IT, IT WAS AMAZING.
I'm no Zest fan, i loved Creator wining that game even the way it happened. I actually consider Zest, while being an amazing player, overrated and actually a patchtoss, and this is why: Everyone keeps saying he has and had a weakness vs terran. He rode his godlike but not infallible pvp and pvz to win all those titles when terran was UP. Everyone knows this. Confidence is very important, and he rode that too. Now that he isn't as infallible because he keeps facing ''the op terrans'' time and again, he doesn't have as much confidence and makes more mistakes, even in his other match-ups where we are used to his perfection. God i hated that perfection at the GSL finals vs soO. Handsome Bastard.
Edit: Im just gonna add for people who didn't see and won't look for it. What happened that made Zest have no observer in the fight wasn't a mistake. it was pure 100% random.
Shine is still around then? Fucker looks to have cheesed out both Hyun and, more importantly, Stats (!!!) in his bracket. Goddamnit. He's almost reached Sniper-level of hate for me.
Glad Flash, soO, and Cure survived... real shame about Zest and Stats. Any Bo3 is dangerous as hell if your opponent brings his absolute best game or something surprising you're a bit unprepared for.
Look at the player list for the upcoming Code A of Season 2. It's more insane than I've ever seen it.

Agreed. But I noticed this four months ago and predicted this happening for Zest. Four months ago. And was flamed, banned and insulted unprofessionally by a TL staff member for it, simply because that person loves Zest.
But now that my predictions came true, everyone's coming to the same realization that I saw pretty clearly back last year ever since he got destroyed by TRUE in the GSL Ro8 (iirc was Ro8), over 7 months ago, but only posted about it 3-4 months ago.

I dont know what games you were watching, but to me, Zest did not play to 'perfection' in the finals against soO. He should have lost 4-2, soO threw that game mightily and then proceeded to throw the series.

Double elimination would mean that there would be 4 extra matches per group, so 48 more across the day (assuming no walkovers) Really not very feasible :[

I don't remember anybody except TheDwf agreeing with my analysis when I posted it back around November/December, but if you did call it, then I'm glad to see that there are more people than just me that were able to pierce the ''hype'' surrounding Zest and see him for what he truly was.
