No, the game decided to give me my plat status back for beating a dia Terran after having me crush gold league scrubs for months. I guess MMR decaying kept me from being where I should have been *sigh*. The quest for dia has begun. Maybe.

I'm not sure what ladder does, I'm in top 8 dia of my division and I play silver-masters in random succession regardless of my winrate

The prospect of getting roach dropped by you on ladder will fuel my SC2 passion. So did I miss anything cool before the series began?

One day Libocider will unleash his true potential and drop the nerves. When that day comes, we will rally behind the prodigal foreign hope, and with the USAUSAUSA chants to ward off koreans, we will follow his ascent to his first EPS championship.

You guys called GanZi "Ganji" so pronounce the Kid's ID correctly, god damn it.
oh i thought he was just called ganzi
Something to do with pronunciation differences between english and korean. For a long time people called him ganzi then the GSL casters changed it and everyone else followed suit

he was pretty succesful in wc3 more than anything :D
I think aLive has become a very well known player, by virtue of people remembering that he's the most obscure and "invisible' player. If that makes any sense.

But did you play Zerg like I do when I off-race every now and then?
r-roach drop?
I haven't off-raced as Zerg in months, and I was too much of a scrub to even come up with roach drops. However, I went mass roach in ZvZ when muta ZvZ was meta.

I made them when they weren't the meta choice, I was pretty proud of myself for it. But I iz scrub with Zerg. Much easier to off-race as Protoss.

Uh, hiding in a corner of his 3rd base guarded by his entire army is a pretty good spot
On that map? If he had moved them behind his 3rd/main before morphing they all would have finished and they wouldn't have gotten blinked on
I just feel like he wasn't expecting Harstem to attack at that moment. It was literally perfect
While I don't disagree that it was Harstem's intelligent attack moreso than NXZ's poor positioning that doesn't change the fact that there was much better positioning. Especially considering that he could have put them behind the nexus and they still could have shot and still would have been more protected.

Roughly when SH got changed. No point in having spine/spore walls anymore
Of course there is. You survive three base timings and actually get to BL/infestor.
I think with the long list of counters/nerfs to BL/infestor it just became more worthwhile to make a few BL and not "waste" the money on spine/spore walls.

if you'd still have to do it, which I assume you do, it's not the best idea to play this style
It's just the exact WoL roach/ling -> BL/infestor style, which is just a lot weaker in HotS. You're supposed to make spines while teching to hive/greater spire or you die to this sort of attack. It's been that way ever since. Zergs somehow seem to have forgotten that though.

That game on Yeonsu is one of the greatest derp moments in human history.
Blink stalkers? 2 stargate phoenixes with range? MOAR MUTAS!

I don't see the point of leaving yourself open if you're gonna play a turtley style anyway. Just doesn't make sense.
If you don't wanna make spines with roach/hydra, I get that. But with a build that rushes tech this hard with no real army in the meantime? You roll over and die if you don't have adequate defense (spines).

it's not WoL anymore, you shouldn't be able to just win games like that, so you have to risk a lot to get a decent army instead of playing safe, knowing you'll probably win in the end

I completely disagree, you can't just expect your opponent to miss out on such a gigantic opportunity to straight up kill you. Especially when protoss players have been hitting 3 base timings for the last 4 years. It's not the best style anymore, I agree, but if you're gonna do it then at least do it right.

I liked the random proxy hatch on Merry Go Round and the 9-pools. And the last game was one of the best this year easy.
Yeah it was really fun, just not as many of the epic macro game like the first series. I guess I'm spoiled lol
Even the first didn't really have many epic macro games. It was: Life dies to pressure. Life dies to pressure. Life kills mech player. Life kills greedy Terran with banelings. Life kills greedy Terran with banelings. Dream has an absurd and completely ridiculous hold that will be forever remembered. Decent macro game.
I think Maru didn't play that too well. Too much respect. Didn't go for his signature colossus snipes enough even when the opportunities were there. And that base trade attempt on Vaani was a terrible decision. Also he didn't adjust well enough to herO going DTs in every game.

I don't think that composition is an issue for zerg. You can kill colossus/templar armies just fine. It's just the mass blink/sentry/storm/immortal style that's incredibly strong. It's got so much map presence, pressure potential, mobility and fighting power all in one. That and with forcefields, blink, storm and recall you should never trade unfavorably.

Kind of straightforward, In my opinion.
Is one of the games of RBBG I distinctly remembered.
Anyways. Cure got completely rolled because he let that triple drop in his main happen and didn't do a terribly good job of getting rid of it. And then he got caught out on the map by MMA whose economy was left unhindered the entire game, leaving me to wonder what Cure was actually trying to do.

Of course there is. You survive three base timings and actually get to BL/infestor.
if you'd still have to do it, which I assume you do, it's not the best idea to play this style
It's just the exact WoL roach/ling -> BL/infestor style, which is just a lot weaker in HotS. You're supposed to make spines while teching to hive/greater spire or you die to this sort of attack. It's been that way ever since. Zergs somehow seem to have forgotten that though.
you have to play a lot more riskier now
I don't see the point of leaving yourself open if you're gonna play a turtley style anyway.
There really isn't composition to triumph over colossi and high templar. I think zergs cannot let protoss to tech up so freely.
Rough time to be a zerg vs protoss atm.
Well, I agree that blink/sentry/storm/immortal style is incredibly strong, which tend to make zergs undertech, and that, consequently, makes high templars very strong, since zerg has inferior composition that was used to defend earlier pressures.

I'm pretty sure there won't be bio/tank positional wars. Because for one, Flash favours mech, which is viable on Echo, and two, because yolodrops are stronk.
yeah likely we'll see bio/tank v mech. I wouldn't be surprised if MMA brought out some tank drops like he did against Curejwa
edit: Still Flash's trademark Hellbat/Mech is pretty mobile fun IMO. It's really fairly similar to bio/tank
Cure really doesn't deserve a -jwa if he keeps performing like that.
Mech vs bio is the best TvT anyway. But maybe MMA has another curveball Bomber build and goes mech himself.
Cure played pretty well in that game IMO.
Still I think Bomber is the Bio/Tank god. I have wet dream's sometimes about s3 2014 TvT bio/tank meta!
Imo he played bad. Much worse than in his game vs Flash the week before, too.
Also I distinctly remember Bomber playing a lot of mech in TvT in late 2014.

It's true that Bomber absolutely crushed Cure in this series (he is another class of TvT player)
I still think Cure is a very solid TvT player, as evidenced by his aliguilac winrates. He also played a 7 games series against INnoVation in the gsl semifinals and made his run at a time where TvT was a very common matchup due to the favorable map pool.
I've been working on some terran metagame/build stuff in which Cure has been one of the more revolutionary players, even in TvT a fairly static matchup

KR GM
KR gm doesn't mean a lot if you can't specify the rank.
The guy asked for league, not rank. And I think NXZ is chilling with the rest of the foreigners at 150ish-175ish. There are ofc some special few foreigners who do better than that.

PiG lost 3-2 to NXZ in the challenger. I'm implying PiG's top 16 was a bit of fluke.
Did you miss my explanation? I'll give it again. NXZ's preparation was superior, and there was literally nothing flukey about PiG's run. He flat out defeated TargA and Happy, and had a very close 3 game series with Ro4 finisher ShoWTimE. Stop being ignorant and spiteful.

I'm not trying to be rude to be honest. It's not neccesary to take every opinion so personally.
I like PiG personally, he's a smart, friendly guy who has done a lot great content for Zerg players. He also prepared very well for series and deserved to make it through. That also does not imply I think he's a good player, which he really is not.

He went 2-3 verse happy and got out because of how double elimination works. I wouldn't call that "flat out". Pig had a really good day but I don't think many people would ever expect him to be able to repeat that, hence it being a fluke.

What do PiG, Happy and TargA have in common? They're all not in Premier league season 2! What does that tell us? Form is temporary, class is permanent.

We're really grasping at straws when we're arguing about PiG making into the top 16 of WCS Premier, to be honest.

Seriously. Kane is much much better than moonglade
Tbh, my issue with Moonglade is that his voice sounds... I dunno, how do I say that? It sounds weird. Especially when talking about how attractive he finds Zest or the like, his voice just sounds... weird. I like him tho.
I think the complete opposite. I love listening to moonglade, I'm starting to warm up to kane but I foundsomething weird about his voice too.

First off calm down. He's a good caster and his knowledge is fantastic. But you can't possibly tell me there's no difference between say, listening to Catspajamas and listening to Kane. His voice isn't as pleasant to listen to. Its not his fault nor a reason to not hire him. Its just an opinion
kk calm. I'll take Kane over CatsPajamas anyday though, though his voice is "nice."

100% disagree, though I guess the majority of the player base are total scrubs. You would think even silver and gold players could appreciate someone who actually knows the game. Who cares what they look or sound like? Have we ever had a caster that sounded so bad?

If you get scouted the opponent can just go for aggressive 2 base builds and they become harder to hold. I personally take the gold on the protoss' side of the map if I'm going to. Because they're much less likely to scout it

Ah, then it's probably good that I'm watching Take stream it. So much more laughs and laid back stuff than official stream. But that's sad actually, SC2 being Korean only again. Last big tournament I looked up on liquipedia was all Koreans from Ro16 or Ro32 on. Then again, did they finally cap the number of Koreans in WCS? Or shouldn't there be more in group stage?
Edit: Why are Taketv casters saying Harstem is German... :x

There is a region lock for koreans (koreans can't play in non-korean events without a visa).
The level of Korean starcraft is very very high atm (way above, even a year ago)
There are also 2 individual leagues in Korea atm. GSL, SSL (run by spotv) and proleague obviously.
iA overextended, you don't want to attack into a Protoss position behind a choke, a ling runby while waiting for Broodlord numbers could be way better.

I really don't understand these zergs. They both only made 5 or 6 corruptors for broodlords and then morphed them in really terrible places. iA gave away one of his 5 potential BLs instantly because of bad position. I could understand it if you're morphing 10-15 where losing 1 doesn't particularly matter but losing 1 when you only can make 5 is just sloppy

But anyway, Harstem fighting for the win!
At least in Korean, sc2 is at its most popular peak in terms of viewership. Outside of Korea its not in its best state though.

He's on iG's academy, maybe he got promoted and I don't know, because he's still in school. IDK how the chinese schooling system works but I doubt he'll play in proleague. At least this round, I'm pretty sure only Jim/XY/Macsed were put on the official roster

Do we really live in an age where top gm zergs can't get a gig because their voice is weird. lol... they're both native English speakers.
Having a good voice is almost the n°1 thing to be a caster lol
100% disagree, though I guess the majority of the player base are total scrubs. You would think even silver and gold players could appreciate someone who actually knows the game. Who cares what they look or sound like? Have we ever had a caster that sounded so bad?
People just need to get out of their shell and experience accents from different parts of the world.
lol. I'm casting and I can tell you that it's the most important thing. People listening for something else than being entertained are such a minority (that you'll find on TL yeah) that you can say bullshit most of the time and get away with it. Just like in mainstreamed TV sports.
What you're saying and what you sound like when you're saying it are two different things. No doubt, one needs to speak eloquently to be a caster. Unless you have a speech impediment, I don't see the problem.
you don't have to be eloquent, basic english/whatever language is enough as long as you can engage people into the cast. And you need to have a good voice for it.
So you can be retarded as long as your voice is good, right.

What exactly makes a "good voice?" It seems impossible to define to me. It all depends on your own bias based on what accents you grew up listening to and societal brainwashing. The same kinda thing with white people being considered more attractive worldwide. It's just stupid.
CatzPajamas didn't just have a good voice. He has a nice brain. The ability to articulate his thoughts in an organized manner. Not everyone can do that.
Tasteless is a low tier caster. He's not going to be able to live off his glory days forever. People are catching on that he doesn't do any research on the players etc. You can't say he's more popular now then during the glory days of GSL.
Both the casters you mentioned stay relevant based on popularity and networking. Not their voice.

Too bad ESEX didn't get enough free money to do SC2 articles, cause that'd be hilarious
You might as well just write Toronto instead of Canada, cause the rest of the country hasn't ever been tested /salt

Because there's no one around Vancouver. Not a single several million people in the metro area + millions more in the surrounding states and provinces who would be willing to travel long distances cause no events ever come here. NOT. A. SINGLE. ONE

Zerg because backdoor rocks
The back rocks are only useful to zerg if the opponent is braindead. Its more harm than good imo
If Dream manages to upset herO, then I doubt it. At least for this season.
I think Byul plays different enough than life that dreams insanely good tvz won't counter him as much. But he definitely would rather play herO
Did you see KeSPA Cup? ByuL got utterly outclassed. No Zerg would "rather play herO".
yeah other than Rogue or Life (who I'm sure would struggle a lot anyways) i dont think a zerg wants to play herO. Especially ByuL, his teammate has him on lockdown.

I still think if you're given the option of DreamvZ or herO you'd pick herO.
Or cry
Playing herO would mean only playing one match-up so I'd be inclined to agree.

Does ByuL count as a race?
He'll soon enter the race of Starleague champions so sure lets do that

Zerg because backdoor rocks
The back rocks are only useful to zerg if the opponent is braindead. Its more harm than good imo
If Dream manages to upset herO, then I doubt it. At least for this season.
I think Byul plays different enough than life that dreams insanely good tvz won't counter him as much. But he definitely would rather play herO

Not sure if you haven't heard, but Korean pros consider Dream a "bubble". They don't take him nearly as serious, while every Zerg realises that herO with his 71% all-time winrate in PvZ is exceedingly dangerous.

While this is true, its unknown how much of that is "real" and how much of that is over exaggerated entertainment.

Wonder why the baneling drop style went out of style
cause its terrible and easily dealt with.
Having an overlord with 4 banelings dropping the mineral lines still would be pretty potent. Maybe not the full blown, dropping banelings on sentries but just dropping the mineral lines would be good

Too much of an investment for not enough value. It's like storm drops.

The point remains. herO vs Zerg is more of a thing than Dream vs Zerg. I'd bet you that almost all Korean Zergs would rather play Dream than herO if they had the choice.

its more investment for less reward for more multitasking than just doing a runby or using mutas.
would making ventril sacs just come with lair be too overpowered? or would it be a good enough buff to see more overlord drops as a legitimate strategy

I think if they combined speed and drop made it cost a little bit more than speed currently does but require the lair that MIGHT work.

there should be an upgrade at the nydus network that lets you use nydus worms and overlords interchangeably.

At this point I'm just glad nydus worms can't be killed while building

Is harstem that good or do ultras just suck? Seems like he was done game 2. But in the games I've watched always seems like ultras are horrible and result in losses for the players who build them. Except fruit dealer in season 1
iAsonu goes through but TooDming barely missed out losing to ForGG and Stardust ffs some rough luck. Grats Harstem. Good attempt trying to make EG care about anyone besides Jaedong Xeno. One day :>
