Maru's been slumping lately because of his shoulder problem. Not sure how much he can actually practice now on a daily basis. I'd put him as the definite underdog against all 3 others.
Stats 2-1 Byul: they are both not as good as Maru or Zest, but Byul is the worst of the two.
Maru 2-1 Zest: Zest dismantled Bbyong, but that is not Maru.
Maru 2-0 Stats: Maru just completely outclasses Stats, no questions asked. Stats can get lucky and trick Maru or something, but not likely. That's the only way he can win.
Zest 2-0 Byul: Zest will always be a much better player than Byul. This will be a blowout unless Byul somehow gets lucky again. Zest will only lose against Byul if Zest has an off day and Byul does some gimmick strategy that he usually does to manage to win games
Zest 2-0 Stats: Zest is a better PvP player and Stats is Stats. He believes in coin flips.
All depends on how "hurt" Maru really is. If it is fine now or what ever he will get out of this group. If it really has been bothering him he will most likely crash and burn here.

I think each group is named after the seeded player, the semifinalists last season: Classic, Dream, herO, Stats
EDIT: Ninja'd again
And what is with this ad break right at the beginning of the time block? Oh well, more bandwidth for downloading PSO2 then.

Excellent control by Byul on the first attack on the 3rd. That group of Hydras on the right spent the entire time pulling down that Nexus. Great work in zoning out Stats to pull that off.

Is RH the new Roach Hydra abbrevation?
I always used it because roach hydra is too long to type, but apparently I'm the only one

without blink stalkers trade 1-1 with hydras and we all know how blink and ff makes it go. Gateway units are extremely good, Stats just played that wrong.

Makes sense, just never heard it before. But i guess the comp not common enough to be adopted by most.

Ah and if the stalkers have blink the zerg has Vipers and the stalkers still get rekt. Are you seriously trying to tell me that a gateway only army could hold its own beyond the midgame?

I don't think current map pool is that good for blink all-in
Zest has invited Maru to workout with him recently, and told Maru to lift as much as him. Maru couldn't, and his whole body is tired and shaky, hands included, thus he'll lose.

tastosis effect is too strong
Maybe that's the curse of being a caster. You either retire early enough to be sad about leaving the game or you cast long enough to see yourself not caring about it anymore
So what's the deal with Maru's shoulder? Is it bad/chronic/gaming related or just a little petty incident? If Maru is hurt we need to fund him a robot shoulder

Yeah I think this is very possible.
Also just like everyone else has days you really don't feel like going to work but you have to (even if you enjoy most days) at least we are not showed on camera.

nothing is wrong with it. It's just and excuse to justify him being in a slump after losses today and beyond

Why can't we do something about a cheesy all-in race like this? I don't mean this as a balance whine, more like gameplay discussion. Do people actually like this? If two races are about macro and lategame and one is all about early game deception? Recently Tasteless mentioned that Terran is about macro and mechanics while Protoss is about deception and mind games. I don't think I want people competing if such vastly different skills are required from them...

I rather give the other races the same cheesy all-in options, when two players do polar opposite cheeses it produces the most spontaneous and interesting games.

No I don't like this. But Maru made many mistakes.
To me it seemed like to his information there could be either macro play behind the oracle or this blink follow up. Did he really have the information to decide? I don't think so. If it hadn't been more aggression his moves would have been fine I think. And usually people don't follow up aggression with even more aggression. This isn't supposed to be a game of rolling dice.

id love better z cheese but you'd have to completely change larva mechanic or add a unit

Oh ok. I need to reinstall SC2 to play a couple games on those maps.
so game 3 was on Echo: Zest defending Maru's initial attacks well, then killing 7 workers with DT drop, then defending his 3 medivac counter attack very well and then Maru just attacks with his entire force, drops on both collossi and cleans up the rest from behind his Raven's PDD
Why drop when you can just run up the ramp and kill everything as terran. Zest played perfectly until that one mistake of losing 2 collosus that lost him the game.

Yeah, and it's why people are wrong. He just messed up an otherwise brilliant game. That has little do do with bad PvT, it's bad reaction time.
You seem to love Zest much, and I do too, but his PvT has always been his Achilles' heel. Sometimes it's great, sometimes it's bad enough to lose to TANGTANG. He can have pretty underwhelming early game micro and can be made to fall apart against multi-pronged agression.

I think Maru messed up there, I dunno how but his starport was finishing at around 11 minutes. That's so stupidly late. Don't think that should happen if you're up against a DT drop with 3CC.

Maru definitely messed up. He took way too much damage against DTs he knew were coming and teched absurdly slowly. Even with sloppy big fights control Zest just had to macro up to ensure the win.

Guess he should leave the 3cc builds to Flash and stick to 2 base 5 rax
On July 23 2015 20:06 digmouse wrote: Zest pretty much 1-Ad those last fights.
Actually, you could see Zest was microing really well to minimise the damage from the vikings. He kept repositioning his stalkers to deal with them and poked in and out with the colossi so that they took fewer shots.

I hate work.
3CC vs proxy DTs, Maru obviously doesn't take much damage, but he stays at home, can't force a cancel on 3rd nexus, lands his 3rd stupidly late. Doesn't have a single drop going throughout the game while DT drops are killing his workers and keeping him at home.
then Zest maxes out and moves out and blink/archon/collossus > MMM/ghost/viking
On July 23 2015 20:12 sharkie wrote: Maru losing was worst possible scenario for Byul
I don't think so. He won the first match, and to get out of the group he has to beat Zest or Maru, now he has a chance to get out of the group with beating only one, and if he fails he gets a second chance. Pretty ideal scenario if you ask me.

That is cause Buyl attacked (and won easily tbh) If Zest didn't throw his army trying to get on top of the tech(which he failed) and end the game Buyl wouldn't move out. Tempest don't counter broodlrods easily anymore you need a fuck ton of them and zerg can just slowly Crawler push and split the map unfairly. He just thought he wouldn't win the long game vs that so hoped he could break that he didn't.

Yeah I think so. But also, it's a tough call to make. He can't really know if an overseer is being made and if he targets the hatch and doesn't kill it, he wastes a lot of money for nothing.

Buyl is closer to KR standard It's a lot more complicated than that. To put it simply back in BW Effort was an SS class zerg so his contract was expensive as hell. They essentially refused to increase his pay to what he wanted (a pay worth of a top class player which they didn't want to pay but still wanted him on their team) but they refused They also stopped him from switching his team( dunno by what means) that could have offered more money. Then they released a fake notice of his retirement ( as some sort of pressure move like you are with as or you aren't a progamer statement) and Effort decided to tell them to go fuck themselves It's all about money they didn't want to pay him more money so they used any excuse and shady shit to avoid that A lot of that happened after the whole matchfixing incident too so it was all a mess with sponsers taking a step back and teams blaming players for matchfixing a lot.

Ha ha ha.
What happened ?
game 2 Slowling attack that did enough damge to pay for itself (no advantage for anyone) oracle 6 gate into Byul smelling it out and setting defense so well Zest didn't bother trying Zest went back started super late blink and 3rd (late late late) Byul went for broodlord infestor with mass ling ugprades Zest tried to hit a storm blink timing before Byul had BL out Byul had spines.
Sounds fun. Was terrible to watch ? Sounds like the kind of games I can have fun watching.

yeah, the dream is dead
Zest has had a weird day, looking really great at points and some terrible errors at others.

2base DTs (14 drone kills) into 3b blink vs ling/hydra. Except Zest took the closest third [Cactus Valley horizontal btw] and lost.

Between them, to be more precise. Although having holes in the FF itself would be a fun way to add RNG into the game (;

It was like 15 marines, one medivac and 2 mines vs 5 stalkers and 5 zealots. With scv pulled, I don't see how this could have worked.
I figured out the KT plan today Step 1 Zest beats Maru Step 2 Stats loses to byul Step 3 Zest loses to Byul Step 4 Stats loses to Maru to make Maru look cool Step 5 Zest beats Maru again Step 6 ZEST HAS SUCH GOOD PVT Profit?

First tried it twice and he could have made it work the second time if he didn't lose his oracle or 2 tempests for nothing.

The real prophet of one of the most obnoxious Protoss builds can be proud
When did Stats add the beacon ? I mean, did he intend to do a Rotti build or did he go for it after he knew he was scouted and was likely to do little to no damage with the oracle ?

Doing it in code a is much more impressive than pulling it out in an SSL final much more prestigeous.

And that was the day when Rotti was found as the foreigner savior of Korean Protosses. And thus He claimed the right position next to CatZ, the savior of Korean Zergs. Now we are waiting who will claim the left position next to CatZ and completes the holy trinity.

Wouldn't have looked even remotely close on any map without a backdoor (yeah, I know, that's not most of the maps nowadays).
Not exactly, it's mostly the fact that the defender's distance is the same as the attacker's on EL.
Yeah the attacker can switch between attack locations so easily. True it doesn't really hold on Bridgehead or Moonlight.
To be fair on EL there are the rock towers to lenghten the attacker's distance between backdoor and natural. But no one never puts them down when defending an all-in for some reason ><

No of course TY and Dream have excellent TvP, but what I mean is that the fact Zest beat Maru doesn't mean we can assume he's solved his recurrent vT problems.

Well from the start Zest only truly shines when he get's to prepare well.

I thought you had your hair dyed in Red. But if you want to go further... You have to dye the cat. A hat is not enough.
I'd love to dye my cat KT style too! but I won't do anything remotely close to even minimal harm to him, he is a pure soul and doesn't deserve to be the victim of my KT fangirling.
What a glorious day guys, I suffered a lot but seeing Zest play that well, showing a nice variety of builds, despite the derps he looked really good! I'm happy ^.^

Honestly, I think Zest's biggest issues in TvP are that he flips the coin too much sometimes and sloppiness in defending (mine) drops (I think that cost him 2 or 3 Proleague games against Maru).
On July 23 2015 22:46 c0ldfusion wrote: Maru is in a weird slump right now dropped his PL match too.
I have to take issue with your use of the word "slump": here. sure Maru didn't look that great today but you can't expect players to win every match they play.
even at their peak in broodwar guys like Flash and Bisu only had like 60 - 70% winrates in their best matchups, and if anything SC2 is a more volatile game so I don't think you should read too much into a few poor results.
Kinda expected this... Maru has huge shoulder and wrist issues. And its only getting worse. On a normal day he would never lose a TvT vs Dream that easily and would never go mech in TvT like vs Bravo. Even today he held back a lot, in a normal condition he would wreck Zests Collosi way sooner and not drag the game out and go to Vikings. He just feels his reactions and micro are not that great right now so is afraid to play Maru like and just buldoze the midgame.
A shame really... hope he gets soon better. Its tough seeying him suffer at such young age and I miss the pure Maru style.

At least one KT player advanced. Shame about Byul playing so excellently today. Zest + Maru would've been ideal, but still, there were some great games today.

That's true, but still... Winning korean tournaments might increase your "market value" and thus your salary. I mean i just don't see why they wouldn't try just cause Blizzcon participation is already safe.

yeah true. I think it's just a combination of things tbh, I mean if you're very good in the first months of the year like Maru/Life/PartinG/herO you're more likely to play worse as the year goes on as opposed to Zest or soO who only got better.
