Hitman walks in wearing a ski mask, goes 4-0 in the group, goes up to the stage for interviews, takes off the mask - surprise, it's been MC the whole time. He never retired!
Snuuuuuute! Snute's the only one in this group over 0.03% Blizzcon Chances, currently at 4.94% with 1500 WCS Points. An 8th place in WCS would put him at only 0.26%, combined with winning Dreamhack it'd still only be 12.59%. A 4th place here puts him at 2.08%, combined with winning Dreamhack that'd put him at 85.31%, but combined with a 2nd at Dreamhack it's only 19.27%. A 2nd place in WCS brings him up to 11.67%, where a 2nd place in Dreamhack would again bring him up to 92.85%, or a 4th place in Dreamhack would be 80.67%, or combined with an 8th place at Dreamhack would be 50.59%. Winning WCS would put Snute up to 99.67%.

I hope Snute can live up to his "GSL and SS2L Protoss winners"-slayer reputation. If you can beat Rain and Classic, I hope you can handily destroy Jim.

I don't know if he'll make it out (very much doubt it), but I wouldn't expect only Protoss bullshit from him. He played some surprisingly standard games in challenger, and even on his stream he doesn't do only retarded all-ins.

Elazer said to comfortably bet on 2-0 over Hitman
MATCHFIXING !!!!
2-0 for him ?
yes
That seems like a very safe bet Elazer is pretty amazing ZvP from what I've seen from him. Is he amazing at ZvHitman, that's the true question

Apart from one engage he took quite haphazardly, there is little to criticize here. He got very much ahead with his good read and "blind" counter and just cruised his way to victory.

Jim's era of relevancy is long over. He's not nearly as strong relative to foreigners as he used to be
the whole chinese scene seems to have fallen behind now. They at least had some of the stronger foreigners before but now not really any of them are that competitive when they actually get a chance to show their skill against other regions

it's because he won like 13 leifeng cups this summer. it's like when forgg went abroad and won a shitload of games against foreigners and shot way up. Byun usually only drops 1 or 0 maps in his runs so he gets easy points from people like gamja, apocalypse, and chinese players. He figured it out
He had another 1 loss run in Leifeng again today
He gets a high volume of games with a really good win rate so it keeps adding up and pushing him ahead
last 2 month win rates All 78.11% (207/265) vP 68.75% (66/96) vT 90.20% (46/51) vZ 80.51% (95/118)
When he loses he loses a bunch of points but it just doesnt happen that often because he mostly faces scrubs

i never understood the byun situation
Well, a player that performs well in online cups but never goes to offline events such as the GSL/SSL qualifiers. That leads the door open to several hypothesis, of which three are decently likely.

What are those three hypothesis ? I still think my "hardcore fan that accidently killed him after an argument about his Squirtle loss and took his place on ladder to pay tribute to the player he once loved so much" theory is the most solid by far !

Someone who is not him playing with his ID for some weird reason? Like, the guy accidentally killed him and then was so full of remorse he decided to be him in online cups? Or maybe ByuN is actually a robot testmachine from North Korea that is used for AI purpose?

I have to say I love those builds where you mine just enough gas to get what you need and then just flood zealots. I admit I did it sometimes on NA with charge floods
But I don't understand how Elazer lacked the roaches to counter the second wave. Makes no sense. Did he drone again ?

xenophobic bullshit, typical coming from a French Protoss
Did you just call me a Protoss ... wow
All French people play Protoss, it's the only race where a unit can do full damage while in full retreat.
I see EU4 severely distorted your view of history d:
I like France with the new patch now that you can occupy a lot more land. In fact the only problem with taking France is that the HRE is right next door and all of them are going to get pissed at your expansion.

I think we need to have a new segment in "this week in SC2" where we have "controversial games", games with the highest percent ranking of either 5 star or 1 star and lowest of 2/3/4.

Totally standard timing for that kind of push. It was more Elazer failing than Hitman making something great happen... after the first wave got pushed back, it should have been over.

Isn't that the case with pretty much all Protoss allins?

he droned after the first wave, 3 drones at least, don't know how many he lost at the end to tell you exactly
Ah yeah, that's a horrible mistake. He CANNOT transition, he had zero gas, and it's not hyperbolic, it's just how much gas he had...

In my experience, this sometimes happen even with constant unit production. you do not hold this without some kind of sim city blocking the zealots, or sniping the warp prism (at least not consistently). also you cant make units too quickly even though that'd be the normal reaction to seeing the warp prism
He probably thought he fended off a timing attack and was going to enter the mid game with a healthy lead. Then he woke up and realized he wasn't playing a standard Toss and there were 20 zealots in his base.

Depends, some blink all-ins can work out of pristine micro and you just applaud. There... Droning after pushing back the first wave was just criminal.

drone up to ~40, push back the first attack, roach roach roach. Don't see any flaws in that plan.

I once almost lost a game where toss got natural cancelled by 13pool to this all-in. Mass roaches don't beat zealots if you don't kill the prism :[
I got to admit, these games are fun to watch. Eagerly anticipating the next bullshit build out of Hitman. It's like the complete opposite of facing these builds on ladder.

I think without the time warps he should have won this handily. Anyway, I wonder what Hitman has in store for the next game . I hope a chargelots flood ^^

Yeah mb, 40 drones is def enough i guess. But I dont really see 4-5 more roaches helping too much in that situation, its not like hitman even executed it even close to perfect

I know NaNiwa used to do that build all the time during one DH. It then got quite trendy, then people figured how to counter it and it just disappeared.
I hope Hitman does the same thing so that we can see Elazer adapting.

I think he was kinda hoping that the build he was doing made so little sense it would confuse Elazer, but Elazer's macro is just a hundred times better than his, so even if he didn't understand what he was facing (because I doubt he did) it didn't matter.

hyvaa was my favorite player, he could go toe to toe in macro with some of the top players but he still chose to cheese out fucking Fantasy
I'd almost put BW Flash in that sorta cheesy but still has godlike macro to back it up category. It seemed like half the time I saw him play there were raxes in the middle of the map.

Hitman has some VERY strange PvP builds. Sometimes he plays 1 gate expands... sometimes he plays standard blink... and sometimes he proxies a robo and things get wild.
And yeah, he likes his DTs He has a oracle + phoenix into DTs build.

Or if you are Has.
It's actually in the way I enjoy the game, in my ideal version of StarCraft you wouldn't even be able to go to a second base without some skirmishing happening. Expansions should be earned, and these sheltered easy three-based maps are kinda disappointing to me.

Maybe naama? dont remember if he was okay-ish at macro game, but he was def cheesy scum even by ruff/hitman standard iirc
Did someone ever see Bitbybit macro ?
i dont think terrans really macrod in the era where bitbybit was relevant though? or was he relevant for longer than i can remember, lol
Jinro got what top4 (?) GSL as a macro Terran during that era
Yeah that's why truly great cheesers/all-inners like PartinG MC or Stardust when he was good are so incredibly dangerous. Even hyvaa was pretty incredible at macro.
hyvaa was my favorite player, he could go toe to toe in macro with some of the top players but he still chose to cheese out fucking Fantasy

Aaaah maybe it's because I wasn't playing SC2 during Jinro's run but as much as NaNiwa's an asshole, his Korea achievements are pretty outstanding.

Yeah for whatever reason people tend to forget Jinro when talking about best foreigners. Scarlett and Naniwa being the two that most often pop up then some nods to IdrA but Jinro had the best accomplishments. He just didn't talk about how good he was like the others. He just let his play speak for itself.

Yeah, Jinro invented SC2 macro.
disagree. I was macroing against the AI before jinro played in GSL

Yeah which is why I don't really know how to rate Jinro's achievements. Pretty high of course, but I would have wanted to see him in 2012.

SC2 has been Korean dominated its entire existence. The only time you can ever point saying foreigners were even remotely competitive was TLS3 but it was extremely obvious to anyone watching those games the Koreans had unplayable lag.

We all know that only happened cus Jinro randomly started macroing, which was unheard of for terrans, so captain Greggory was at a disadvantage. Also bad soundproofing and crowd yelling during the early pool game so jinro knew also fuck that single marine also idra is sexy and always will be he was just misunderstood

yeah ofc... I guess the whole foreign scene will likely never be on par with the Korean scene. At least TL and Millenium are trying to give themselves the means to fight on an even ground.

by buying out Koreans ?
Comparatively, TL Foreigners probably have a better shot vs. Koreans as opposed to Millenium Foreigners. Plus it's not like TL bought them in their hayday, they were fairly homegrown.
EDIT: Out of all foreign teams, I'd say the biggest offenders of "buying koreans to be formidable" are dPix and MyI, not TL or Millenium.

And that should be detrimental? If a caster has a boner when casting it only does mean that he's good at his job.
If he also gives the viewer a boner, you know you've found a truly amazing caster. Artosis does that for me.
I used to think like you until I realised that by that logic Lindsay Sporrer was better than Artosis. That's why you should trust more a caster's boner rather than yours.

HAHA!
But I think it should be the other way around for hosts, which is why Smix, seltzer and lindsay sporrer are great as hosts. I mean I'd rather get a boner myself, than imagining one of them having one
Lindsay was the girl that did a WCS, right? I remember complaining that Redeye wasn't there for it, and someone mentioning that she was hot, but not as witty. And hence not as good.

Chobra hosting still isn't great. I really like the fact that he can both host and translate.

Its honestly such a strange build. If it was proxy 2 gate Elazer would have been fine, its when they add the forge that the game becomes really wonky. You have to make sure to kill the probe because once the first cannon goes up its almost always game over
Isn't that overlord scout really bad? You're closer to the ramp then the nexus in that situation and you're almost never going to see a protoss not wall off

this loss had nothing to do with scouting but ok
There's very little doubt in my mind that Elazer is the better player, but for some reason he played like a moron today. On top of that he was mediocre mechanically, so he didn't deserve to go through.
Elaiser failed with his spines. Donated the first one when he repositioned it, donated the second one when he didnt engage with his zerglings to save it. Got then overwhelmed with Zealots.

Did you see a drone scout? This is a 4player map vs the cheesiest protoss of NA. That's failing at scouting
He had all the information he needed. He failed at control. Especially when he lost the first spine.
drone scout won't even necessarily see anything before the ovie, in fact in this case it certainly wouldn't. you don't drone and ovie scout the same base

That and some questionable queen micro at the beginning.. got too greedy trying to do damage and went out of position, stalkers put on too much damage. A number of small mistakes built up..

He had 2 spines and lost them too easily. Also he failed to target the stalkers with lings.
dude he scouted with 2nd overlord only and his 2nd spine got damaged to 20% health while it was positioning. basically he already lost at that point.
with 3 full health spines in the front he would've beaten this easily.

It´s frustrating to see someone who only knows how to cheese to be "top-16" in Europe and NA. So many superior players are left out and guy like this gets in only because protoss is abusable as fuck.

he got in because he gets to play the weaker qualies, not because of the race. With all due respect to non-Europeans, the actual "top-16" of WCS is Hydra, Polt, Jaedong, Stardust and 12 Europeans. The "superior players" actually get knocked out in EU Challenger mostly (and then there's fucking Bunny who went full Elazer, did Elazer go full Bunny?)

he got in because he gets to play the weaker qualies, not because of the race. With all due respect to non-Europeans, the actual "top-16" of WCS is Hydra, Polt, Jaedong, Stardust and 12 Europeans.
pretty sure the actual top 16 includes Hitman. I just checked liquipedia and it agrees
He is top-16 but i still consider him to be a joke and successful only long as protoss is able to execute the great book of shit. I would respect him more if he even did some micro intensive all-ins.
But knowing his opponent was Protoss, Elazer also had some means of playing through the last two games.
it was actually a really really good game if you aren't salty about the build. it was really close. elazer messed up but those mistakes are easy to make against a cheese under pressure, and hitman microed very well. with average micro he loses

Now for maximum salt we need a group of Jaedong, Snute, elfi and Hitman with the last two making to the top-8.

Polt seems more vulnerable than he has in the past, ForGG as well.

I think it was a great series, it shows that "creativity" (builds outside the meta) still works and these types of games showcase who can better under extreme pressure. There's a reason 1 base 3 gate allins havent been seen since 2010/2011.
Not every PvZ has to be french style mass sentry into third base into blink stalker vs roach hydra into viper.

G1 was a proxy gate/forge ala elfi, and Hitman got 2 cannons up and cancelled the natural, and was just able to win from there. (Elazer looked devastated).
G2 was a 10 gate into 4 gate and Elazer poorly defended and lost.

Terrans have been winning finals with 2 raxes since 2010. IMMVP was famous for using 2 raxes or 1 base scv allins on the last game of a finals.
Zerg.. well.. Zerg is zerg haha.

Yes, but doing something bad means that theres a weakness to that bad thing you're doing. Thats why its bad. Its the better player's fault for not scouting and exploiting it. How can they think they're the better player if they don't even react?
You watch Life (or MC or Parting) and you see how they jumps at weakness at a moments time. Idra could never be top tier because he was always held back by his rigid style and lack of flexibility.

There is absolutely no truth. If you are good at SC you are aware you are playing with limited information and you are trying to fill in certain blanks. You need to be aware of where the blanks exist. Often times they are more important than what you know. If you fill in blanks and present them to yourself as a certainty that is a poor mindset. What you do NOT know is often times more important than what you DO know. IdrA's issue was constantly thinking he was playing with a full picture of the game state at all points in time. But you are not. When he read the situation correctly yes he was a very good mechanical player who could defeat most. But he was far from the best at reading game state and interpreting the situation accurately which was ultimately his downfall. Worst part is he didn't realize that was a major problem.

Idra thought it too much, but there definitely is a fair chance of many games on ladder being lost at the highest level simply because your opponent did something stupid and threw your read off. ZvZ, opponent forgot an overlord and his ling flood is late. You know the proper timing for a ling flood and just go into drones with minimal defense because there was no indication. I feel if delayed timing attacks were an actual thing you'd probably see them more often. Yes it is true doing non-standard things on the ladder can get you wins but since they're coming later they are naturally weaker and rely only on your opponent not reading the situation properly. Which means your opponent messed up and lost. If you see larvae floating and a drone undersaturation the situation should be pretty clear. But if you can't see that information and try to fill in the blank with meta knowledge that is a blank you need to be aware you're filling in with limited information and may not be correct.

I find it hilarious but I can't help thinking you shouldn't be able to reach ro16 out of such builds... I couldn't watch the game with enough precision to know if Elazer fucked up his defences... But man, elfi and Hitman in the ro16... This is shameful, just shameful...
I hope MaNa gives me some reasons to believe Protoss can be played with elegance and respect tomorrow.
still waiting for someone to tell me how to play a video game with elegance and respect

I know it sounds stupid... But watch Rain in 2012, watch Zest in 2014. Compare with Hitman or elfi play. Tell me if you don't see a difference (and it's not like Rain in 2012 and Zest in 2014 weren't winning things). It's probably something very personal but I have zero respect for people who win out of tricky / all-innish play and have low GM macro. Then again if you like it and think it's fine, so be it. It's a matter of taste and it's just a game after all.
To my mind : Mvp 2 raxes Squirtle and wins GSL closing out an epic varied series, that's totally awesome. Hitman 4 gates Elazer and gets in WCS ro16 where he'll get ridiculed, that's just depressing. Don't get me wrong, he does the best out of limited skill, and Elazer should just have played better because it's not even like the execution of the all-ins was great by any means (I wish Hitman had hit Snute today or he gets Hydra/Jaedong next round, he'll look silly), but I have the right to dislike it and think it's a very stupid and unchivalrous way to play.

(except for the fact that he didn't really try in challenger) what is shameful about elfi being in the ro16 when he simply beat starbuck and kelazhur in straight up macro games? I can kind of get behind hitman in ro16 being shameful even though I really like his play, you shouldn't be able to get this far with cheese alone. But the cheeses he did aren't even that difficult to defend and knowing him as a cheesy player should be enough to prepare for that.
Also there's no elegance or respect in a competitive starcraft 2 game. It's simply win or lose, nothing else.

Just like Kelazhur fucked up his drops and harass. When you give elfi time, don't destroy the observers and make other mistakes you will lose 21min and 17min games against elfi straight up no cheese.
Elfi went standard macro six times in his seven ro32 games, with one proxy gate+forge on Coda like Hitman, but Hydra played much better than Elazer did in that situation.

He won his challenger match with macro games. I think he's being really smart. People expect him to cheese his challenger match - he plays macro. People expect him to macro his group - he cheeses.

With a long history of cheese, one bo5 macro series 3-2 win against Xenocider really shouldn't trick people thinking he will macro and cheese isn't likely. Even watching the vods of the show today he himself says he's pretty solid early to mid-game, but late game he falls apart so he prefers to end his games before that.
When you have a full foreigner league, people go full foreigner
For real: Hitman did what has to be done: Winning. He did not cheese his way into Ro16, Elazer just let him go there without resistance, he fucked it up like a player who shouldnt be in Ro32. Like Bunny against Starbuck. What was in Elazers brain up. "well he cheesed me allways in the first set and I won, now he will definitly not cheese, so lets not dronescout and fail the overloards. And then dont pump enough units."
I cant understand that hate against players like elfi or hitman. When you think these players have a "low GM macro", you can easy go super safe and risk to be behind when the game develops into the macro game, because your macro is "way better" and you are "the better player". But hey, a real starcraft II game starts after the first player has over 70 workers, right?
