The ESL support the amateur/semi-pro scene with its Weekly Cups. One of the most disputed cups is the Americas Open. It was known as "NA Open Cup" and recently got rebranded and now embraces, officially, the whole American continent.
Everything else is the same.
All players no matter where you are from or what league you are in are welcome to compete!
- It Runs every Sunday at 5PM CST;
- The Prize Pool still is $50 - winner takes all;
FORMAT
- Ro128 and Ro64 matches are Bo1;
- Ro32, Ro16, Ro8 and Ro4 matches are Bo3;
- Finals is a Bo5.
CHAT
The best way to stay up to date on when the Cups take place and communicate during the cups is to join the ESL AM group in SC2.
NOTE: With the new interface the ESL AM group chat can be accessed by the command "/join ESL AM".
About the Game Servers in the Americas region:
The rules concerning the game servers were update:
Since the ESL Americas Open is organized by the ESL AM, the main " game server" within the Americas region to be used on the tournament will be:
ODR1-S2 - Central United States
After signing up and checking in, all players in any edition of the Americas Open agree with this rule. And there is only one exception to that:
If both players are from geographic locations that are favored by a game servers different from the one stated before, they are allowed to play on the respective one.
In case of two players from South Korea facing each other, they are allowed to select the "AU1-S2 - Australia". The same is valid to the case of two Brazilian players, they are allowed to play on the "SA1-S2 - Brazil" game server.
In order to have a match played outside the Americas region, in the case of two European players facing each other, they must contact and admin in-game before switching regions.
In the case of any different combination:
- NA vs EU
- NA vs KR
- KR vs EU
- SEA vs NA
- SEA vs EU
- SEA vs LatAm
- LatAm vs KR
- LatAm vs NA
- LatAm vs EU
The default game server is the one stated before: ODR1-S2.
And this is the important part: When you host a game, do not stay in a party with your opponent. Just create the lobby, right click his name on the chat and hit "invite to game".
ESL Americas Open now awards OSC points
Starting with the edition 44, the Americas Open, together with its standard $50 prize pool, will award players with OSC points. This is a part of the interaction of the ESL Americas Open and the http://www.sc2sea.com/showthread.php?t=9480.
The Oseanic StarCraft 2 Championship Series (OSC) is the Oceanic, South East Asian, North American and Chinese regional championship, which follows a yearly season format, where players earn points for placing in all partnered tournaments.
The top 32 players ranked via the OSC Player Leader board at the end of the season are then invited to play in the 2 day minimum $5000+ Grand Finale to determine the yearly champion!
So, the prize pool is:
- 1st place = $50 USD + 60 OSC Points
- 2nd place = 30 OSC Points
- 3rd/4th place = 15 OSC points
- 5th-8th = 5 OSC points
- 9th-16th = 2.5 OSC points

Any rules on the servers? Like is this still an NA Servers(eastcoast,central,westcoast) event or will players be forced to play on South America or Australia servers if chosen? As my ping to Australia and south America is absolutely unplayable in the 400+ range.

Back to farming cups for ByuN

Hello KiF1rE, we discussed this extensively yesterday in-game. As soon as I have definitive information about this matter I'll update the post and let you know.
Inflicted, well, it come to others to stop him. Feel free to try.
|
KiF1rE,
Within the Americas Region we have 5 network parsers: US East, US West, US Central, South America and Australia. How do we setup a game tournament in this region while being fair with the players at the same time?
The answer is simple: add a "host" requirement to seed system. This is how it will work:
During the bracket setup each player will be assigned a seed - the grey number that you can see on the bracket - this one will not only define the veto but also who hosts the game. The Player A currently starts the veto process. So in a Best of 3 we'll have something like this:
Veto: Player A veto the first map; Player B veto the second map; Player A veto the third map; Player B veto the fourth map.
Picks: Player A picks the first map; Player B picks the second map; the remaining map is set as the last one.
This is also known as ABAB ABC.
The host will be the inverse of the map picks. Since Player A is randomly getting the advantage of picking a map, the player B will be in charge of hosting the first and the third maps.
Example:
Vetoed maps:
- Player A: Ruins of Seras;
- Player B: Lerilak Crest;
- Player A: Prion Terraces;
- Player B: Orbital Shipyard;
Pick:
- Player A: Central Protocol; >>> Player B hosts this map and invite the Player A
- Player B: Dusk Towers; >>> Player A hosts this map and invite the Player B
- Remaining Map: Ulrena; >>> Player B hosts this map and invite the Player A
And this is the important part: When you host, do not stay in a party with your opponent. Just create the lobby, right click his name on the chat and hit "invite to game".

So will seeding be random? Or in the case of Byun he will get #1 seed meaning he gets aus server host? Who gets first pick in a BO1?(since player A technically doesnt get pick in bo1, meaning player B would get pick and host?) and how does that solve the situation I had with Byun in the last tourney? BO1 he demands host. gets Australia.
So with this system I still could be screwed over. While better for bo3, but bo1 is just bad regardless. And I know our conversation about SEA players not having much, but still these arent even SEA players even picking these servers. And still doesn't really address the issue of trolls in NA wanting to play the Aus server for just the sake of playing of it. Since that has happened in a different cup already.
However the decision goes, I do appreciate you taking the time to look into this and at least declare something.

This tournament now gives out OSC Points!
1st $50 + 60 OSC points 2nd 30 OSC points 3rd + 4th 15 OSC points each 5-8th 5 OSC points each 9-16th 2.5 OSC points each
Points count towards the OSC World Rankings. Top 32 players qualify for the $5000+ finals.
|
Yup, it is updated on the main thread.
|
Yo, everyone seriously, come check this out, lots of good matches to be had outside of the larger tournaments. Besides, now that Dreamhak is done, you all need something to saite your need for competitive SC2!
|
|
This is a informative bump! The format has changed. We are starting the Bo3 on the Ro16, semis are now Bo5 and finals is Bo7. LotV is just too fast, and keeping the old format would just make it end quickly without players fully enjoying the competition.
|
Tomorrow the Americas Open continues! Be quick while everyone is playing/watching nation wars! :p

Also I would like to leave a note about the change in the preferential server to be used during the tournament. The 1st post on this thread and the main page on ESL now contain the new rules about which game server players should play on.

Bounties can be claimed in any OSC partnered event by NA, L.Am, Chinese or SEA players. The victory must be in a bo3+ series. You can only claim the bounty once.

Hello folks, I would like to apologize for the somewhat poor stream today, we had everything set to do a good show and it end up failing catastrophically.
You guys don't have to worry about that, we'll get everything sorted for the next one, including, as many pointed out, a possible second stream.
