Edit: Everything below is still a work in progress, until the sign up link is posted nothing is set in stone*
Blizzard Entertainment & BaseTradeTV are teaming to bring you some arcade action. This will hopefully be a recurring thing where each month we can feature a game from the SC2 Arcade, and create a competitive and fun atmosphere around it. This first ever installment will feature Zealot Hockey! (Credit to Nicolas for the art)
THE SHOW We plan to run & air 3 episodes showcasing the game we're featuring this month, and a 4th episode that is a broadcast of the actual tournament. We'll be talking with the game developers, mod creators, and community hosts as well as trying to bring some of your favourite SC2 streaming personalities to the show.
Nov 13th - Episode 1 Nov 20th - Episode 2 Nov 27th - Episode 3 December 5th - Main Tournament (perfect month & season for some hockey!)
ART CONTEST We also plan to host a fan art contest with this tournament! There will be some cash prizes as well as some Blizzard Swag up for grabs (ever wanted your very own zergling plushy?!) The fan art contest will accept submissions after the first episode airs, and will close as the 3rd episode finishes. We'll pick our top 10 favourite choices and showcase them for you, the community, to vote on! Top 5 will win prizes, so get ready to draw awful pictures of the hosts, epic zealot hockey battles, or just show off your amazing MS Paint skills.
THE MAIN SHOW
Okay, it was kind of a dick move for me to leave this until last, but I was hoping you'd all read the cool stuff we have above. ***HERE ARE THE DETAILS OF THE $3,000 ZEALOT HOCKEY TOURNAMENT***:
$3,000 Prize Split: (Payouts will only be available via paypal) 1st place team - $1,200 2nd place team - $720 3rd&4th place teams - $300 5th-8th placing teams will be allowed to pick any item from the Starcraft 2 Blizzard store (per member!)
Date & Time: Sign up link will be created closer to the deadline, but the tournament will be single elimination bracket on December 5th starting at 10:00 AM PDT.
DA RULEZ:
ROSTERS: It's recommended using 4 players per team (3 skaters, 1 goalie) but we will allow a maximum of 5 man teams (allowing for 1 sub in). Players will only be allowed to compete on one team as well, so no double dipping into 2 different teams. Registration will be handled by the team captain and must be able to account for all players on said team. Once your team has been eliminated, you may not join another team, or have members of your team play for other teams.
MANNERS: in ZH it is customary to pause and unpause, or trash talk, and have fun with things. We don't want to take away from this, but we're going to ask that everyone try to be as respectful as possible. For the pros: Remember, we're trying to introduce many people to the arcade, there's going to be some easy games. Don't be dicks about it. For the noobs: There's going to be folks that are better than you at this, we hope you have a good time, but don't get too upset for losing. Just have fun and keep playing!
FORMAT: Full bracket will feature single elimination, with the only exception being a Bo3 grand final match. For those unfamiliar with Zealot Hockey, there are 3 periods in game, with overtime and a possible shoot out, so each game will already essentially be "Bo3" more or less.
Walk overs will have a 15 minute clock - You may attempt to play matches without a full roster, but if you are unable to compete for 15 minutes the other team may claim a free win.

Thanks to everyone that submitted fan art, the pool to pick from was limited, but still difficult as they were all fun and good pictures/videos!

give a cookie to the guy who speculated very early on that Blizzard would be the partner behind the Zealot Hockey tourney... can't wait to hear some hockey commentary from ZombieGrub.

Will teams be able to have a 5th member? Subs are big in zealot hockey in case anyone gets real life'd.

Chicago is technically the "central" server for Blizzard, according to the Heroes of the Storm servers with alt + ctrl + f.
Wouldn't it be fairest to have all games played on that server? If so, we wouldn't need 5th players for "one-server lineups".

This is a really large prize pool, including the 5th-8th place prizes, for an arcade tournament. I'm going to try to spread the word. I wish I could participate but my personal situation doesn't allow for it at this time. If this is going to be an on going thing with a bit of permanence then I can see great things coming on the Horizon for Starcraft II.
Big ups to Blizzard and BaseTradeTV for doing this, I can't imagine it's a small undertaking. I <3 BaseTradeTV so much! I'll be all over social media trying to get the word out.

I wish Blizzard Techies would check why after the patch for new UI we had a such a good connection for zealot hockey so majority of EU players had perfect latency on NA servers, but after week it was gone. Would be fun if EU guys could participate in their highest potential.

This sounds amazing @BaseTradeTV! The question regarding being able to have an extra man in the squad is prevelant to my team as well. Is it ok to have 5 people on a squad? (Benches are built into Zealot Hockey).

This is awesome! Very exciting stuff and I'm looking forward to getting owned by better players. Good luck to everyone!
Also, anyone who is interested in the Zealot Hockey community should check out the forums on http://www.zealothockey.net/. There are some great threads there on technique and strategy that will help you become more competitive. You can also sign up for Season 6 of our organized league.

HYPE, maybe I'll play this more often now

I agree with the decision to keep players down to 4 per team. Hype!
|
Great stuff rifkin, I've made it a global topic in our zealot hockey forums (hope you don't mind)
Looking forward to this great event!

Cool idea, might have to take the ol' skates out of retirement

Looking forward to the first episode scheduled for Nov 13th!

I love this arcade. It certainly deserves to be a featured arcade. And considering how much time so many players put into it in order to improve a prize pool seems appropriate.

I'd love that, too. Right after 3.0 hit, it felt really great playing on NA from EU. A week or so later, it seemed like everything became so much less responsive and delayed
