GPL International Challenge is a $42800 offline event in China with both a single player and an archon mode portion. It is part of the Chinese LotV launch celebration and is the first offline LotV competition, organized by Blizzard/Netease.

The only point is that lilbow should not have been in blizzcon. Not practicing is not an issue, and lilbow losing in this tournament early is also okay.
Some clarification and more info (was about to post a more detailed thread but was a bit under the weather so didn't):
It is part of the Chinese LotV launch celebration and is the first offline LotV competition, organized by Blizzard/Netease obviously if you notice the "Golden" tag which was used by their tournaments throughout the year. And there will be foreign language broadcasts, details about that will be added when I got things sorted with all the parties.
As a French living in Shanghai I am very interested to know the time and place of this tournament. Is anyone aware of it ? If yes, I will be very thankful if someone could post these infos or pm me about it.

Thank you!
The NetEase/Blizzard Esports studio, subway line 13, exit 3. Day 1 (15th) is not open to public but you can watch live starting from 11am on 16th, entrance is free but is first come, first serve.
I would like JD to go far, unfortunately the exhibition with Flash was quite one sided ... Well, and Lilbow ... either he should win it all or get kicked out in the first round ... I slightly prefer the second option ...
Shall I create a separate LR or just use this thread for discusssion? Since the first day won't have many matches, just a Chinese LotV launch celebration.

yeah they're just comments from stream viewers. it's been popular ever since nico nico douga (Japanese streaming service) did this. all you gotta do is hit the slider bar to off.

Seriously? Lilbow practices all this time and all he has learned is how to do abusive two base all ins? Those kinds of strategy dont have longevity- basically its "i hope my opponent doesnt know about this very specific all in". I hope someone tells flash about them all ins.

Agree, start in the early morning when even Chinese are not watching is weird, but they have to finish sometime early because the venue need to to be refitted for Heroes of the Storm tournament in the evening.
I was more talking about the fact that they take like 6 days for a very small amount of games. Whenever i start the stream there is no game going on, it feels very weird to me haha

I think the problem is that the tournament is running in parallel with GHL the Heroes league that broadcasts every evening at 7pm, so they have to leave several hours for the venue to be retrofitted, which means they probably have to finish before 2/3pm, that leaves around 3-4 hours every day for them, 3/4 BO3s in that timeframe isn't very unreasonable tbh.

The first day is mainly Chinese LotV launch celebration so the majority are interviews and showmatches.
There's an interview of LotV develope team before this event by "13天13", the moderator of Baidu sc2 tieba, one of largest Chinese starcraft community.
Here's some information: About the ending: it is not Raynor's dream, and Kerrigan really comes back. Because she is god now, so she make a human form to take Raynor.
13天13 suggests a new mode similar to Heartstone's Tavern Brawl: they it is a great idea and could be added to the automated tournaments. The detail may still need to discuss.
About Starcraft 3: they are not certain now.
About co-op: they will add more commanders and maps. There will be a new commander on December, 2 on January, and 3 on March.
About balance: it is too early to say anything about it, because people may not find the best counter yet. It is not good to make balance change so frequently.
About units skins: they are developing some new skins, but they do not know every detail because they are not responsible for the art. The skins is not added to campaign because it may result unstable performance. However, there will be some Amon's skin. It is certain that Tal'darim Protoss and Moebius Terran will be used for Amon's skin, but Zerg one is not determined. They also have several plans about how the skins charged or obtained, but not determined yet.
You may expect tournaments of carbot mode.
The seventh co-op commander is known, but it is inconvenient to reveal it now.
Ok that game had nothing to do with a bullshit strategy. Just flash playing greedy vs a chinese zerg. I haven't seen decision making that bad from flash since he salvaged his bunkers or when he decided to scv pull herO 6 games in a row.

FlaSh is on a pro-team, so LotV is very new for him.
Not sure for JD.
Conversely, Chinese players have had a lot more time to innovate and understand units/timings. Things like mass oracles vs max-armor ultras, as poorly as Jim executed that tactic.
Not sure about Snute either but that was fairly easy to follow WoL/HotS ZvZ, with more drones at the start. Just good defense in Set 1 and BO loss in Set 2.
JD made me sad ... I was hoping to see some nice game from him and instead, he just throwed a coin in game one ... you do this when you play against someone much stronger than you ...

that was painfully bad. Between flash not knowing he is on a new game and jd going full naniwa in game 1, that was one of the worst display of skill i've seen in a tournament of that caliber. But the cast was fun =)

No I mean, throughout HotS he's always used coinflip builds. It's just who he is.

Flash and Jaedong were like "Okay one of us has to lose so we can't meet before Grand Finals" "Right" "K thx l8r" and never talked about who should do it so they both lost.
I wish this tournament wasn't stretched out over 3 decades though.
Game 1 JD went for an early pool all-in and pulled his drones, trying to get 2 spines up in Snute's base. Snute had enough and easily canceled both spines and defended the all-in.
Game 2 Snute went for the fast 1base speedlingl/baneling all-in and just ended the game immediately. JD lost all his lings to the banelings, when he moved down his ramp to chase the lings of Snute.

Jaedong doesn't look very impressive, and Flash looks like he's incredibly weak against zerg players, and JD vs Flash might happen in LR3, and depending on how Lilbow does in his next match, if he does well, his chances of winning are pretty solid.

Snute's still there. Flash got all-inned twice. Jaedong had a weird series against Jim where he deflected the bullshit and then your typical coinflip ZvZ against Snute. I think the jury is still out on how good any of these guys actually are.

The Chinese are anyway geniuses ... They created a tournament with 8 only players, and they managed to get out of these 8 only players 25 MATCHES!!!! One could say, it does not make any sense to do 25 matches with 8 players, but they did it :-)

And it spans over an entire week!
Not the weirdest/worst Chinese tournament I've seen though.
Thanks so much once again, you guys are really making my days these days .
Awesome! If I didn't have my official tournament to cast several hours after day 5 I would cast it. But I'll be back for day 6.
Nice, really appreciated!
Btw, two things you were wondering about, in case you are still interested.
1. Liberators can indeed still be built from a Starport with reactor, not sure why they had a techlab on it. Maybe for the new medivac boost upgrade or the Liberator range upgrade for their anti ground mode.
2. Ravagers are in fact less tanky than roaches. It feels weird with how big they are, but they lose 25 health when morphing into a ravager and go down to 120 from 145.
Really enjoyed the cast, I think you two make a perfect combo and I love all the small BW references .

I think the techlab is part mindgame (the overlord sees it but doesn't know what's coming out), part emergency plan in case you get ravager rushed (then you can make a banshee over a liberator). And it always finds a use later.
You guys are doing a fine job casting and I appreciate the vods.
These archon matches are great. I really think they'll be a mainstay in big tournaments as they are viewer friendly and just damn fun! Where else have you seen Flash and Jaedong smiling like they just got asked to prom?

Probably when they saw that July vs Best OSL Finals.
More Oracles because why not. its not like you just lost 20 of them. The funny thing about this is that since this is archon mode, there are 2 people who BOTH thought that this was a good idea.

welp, rip Flash...... first game was pretty good, second game not so much.....Idk if 3 cc builds are even viable, at least not how flash executed them. That ravager push seems really standard for zvt now.
Kinda sad that it's not Flash vs Lilbow since there's not a chance in hell that Lilbow can beat Flash. JD on the other hand... might let Lilbow win the tournament and then we have to watch Lilbow laugh his ass off at everyone after betraying the whole community.
Anyways.... I hope that Flash isn't going to take a billion years to start playing LotV correctly. He's so stubborn sometimes!
Jim gave us 0-8 ... It is said that he couldn't practise well due to his personal issue. Jim may return home - Only MacSed is in iG's Dota2 teamhouse for a long time now. By the way, Jim didn't play well in LotV and lost to many unknown players when he was live on DouyuTV.
Seems like 3CC is not that strong in LotV? JD did economic damage and was actually able to get an advantage out of it. In HotS killing 17 SCVs vs 3CC is most likely not enough.
As a zerg, you only need to build like 7 roaches and can morph them into ravagers, so this push is very larva efficient and allows the zerg to drone up early behind it. But it's obviously waaaaay better than a normal 7RR, seems good .

Id be really happy if Lilbow won the whole tournament, since imo the drama was way exaggerated and he would also prove his point pretty much.

With ravagers blind going for 3CC is suicide move especially on smaller rush distances. A 2 base Ravager+Roach push followed up with droning and a 3rd base is incredibly strong.
Also the time for tomorrow's matches are changed, starts at 8am UTC/9am CET/5pm KST now, so the time on calendar needs to be changed.

First game was Flash basically playing a HotS macro game. Didn't make liberators, lost a bunch of shit to a huge muta flock (even his 4th base at the end). Went for a huge 3/3 timing push but his splits were pretty poor and he didn't have a response to the 8 armor ultras that popped just during his attack. So he lost all his anti air and the mutas killed the rest.
2nd game was JD going for a roach/ravager rush and then Flash was pretty much ded because he went quick 3 CC with no scout. You know, units beat no units, that old thing.

it doesn't even matter at this point, they could just suicide the corruptors after baiting out storms and then instntly remax on a million ultras
And they finally decided to attack, but at a point where they had almost no advantage anymore. Hell, they were already disadvantaged probably considering Lilbow and Snute already have a bank again. Some minutes ago it was 500 minerals (not maxed supply) against 15k minerals. What did they do? Right.
edit: They might still win however it looks close.

Yeah but they start with auto production turned on in campaign stuff. Same with SCVs being set to auto repair by default in campaign but not in multiplayer.

Okay, well what he is doing right now looks like it. It's super strong and what all the whining toss want to start copying imo .
He just did a blink stalker followup which is very lilbow-like I guess. Trust/Hurricane often do a phoenix follow up to counter the spire, which you need against that warpprism. After the phoenix shut down the mutas, a 3 base push finishes the game.
Fast blink stalkers like Lilbow work too I guess, but you have get aggressive right away then.

It's what makes a good player. Stephano was good at abusing the strengths of Zerg, Lilbow does the same for Protoss. What's the difference? I guess the Protoss strengths are less cool to watch?

Ehm, MC and sOs both use more builds than "build shit ton of stalkers" and are able to play proper late game Comparing sOs with Lilbow is a huge offense to sOs. Lilbow isn't bad player but he's not innovative as yours examples.

Yes, actually. What a silly question.
iAsonu is gonna have to play a marathon tomorrow. First against Lilbow, then Archon mode against Flash and Jaedong, and if he beats Lilbow he gets a BO7 against Snute. If he made it that would be quite the story.

Props to Snute. Always felt like he'd be a strong player when it came to picking up a "new" game quickly and being pretty boss in it.

yeah this, I'd even dare to say that his bracket was harder than Snute's, who aside of the 2:1 vs Mistery had to play only 1 matchup.
