For the polls, we can only pick one but 3 technically can advance ~_~ Also Group A is so weak.
Yeah WESG! Looking forward to it, although I expect I won't be able to actually see many of the matches. It'll be full days for us admins here in Changzhou.
Looks good, can't wait to watch Stephano play!
Thanks to the round robin group stages I don't have to get up at 4 AM just to catch some games. I hope the production and everything holds up well, I want this tournament to be as good as possible.
DeMuslim and Stephano! And, you know, some third guy to advance from group A Secretly hoping Harstem will come out of B though he'll have a hard time of it
i saw group A and thought damn thats a tough group and then i looked at group b. idk who it is but , that guy "erik" is really good NA(?) player

I looked at the WESG website page and they had streams embedded on the website and they linked all chinese ones. So maybe twitch might get it but i don't know about it yet. We can hope though
I'd like to point out that the official talent announcement said Brendan "Brendan" Valdes. The most ineffectual ID changes of all time brought to you by Brendan Valdes.

But Brendan is easier to say twice than Valdes twice. He just saved us from saying the more inconvenient way of saying his full name.

Nobody does that anyway. Plus in truth he's Brendan "SpicySalmon" Valdes anyway.
Won't be able to watch anything of WESG, damn. Go Ilyes, Benjamin and Seong Ju! :D
Only half a day left until it starts
Player arrival:VIDEO
Just behold how thrilled TY and Maru look.
Pretty hyped for Maru vs Nerchio.
Cool of them to put out all these videos, and even if I wish they were longer I gotta say they're really nicely done.
I'm still sad they only allowed 2 koreans

Rotterdam and a few others are going to cast so there must be an English stream. EDIT: On an Instagram post, Rotti said it would most likely be broadcasted on twitch.tv/starladder_sc2_en This is the link to the post: https://www.instagram.com/p/BPFkrdClAEl/

They just had a crazy opening ceremony. I'm going to guess they need time for the players to warm up, move to the SC2 section, etc. I kind of wish we had caster and host talking random stuff instead of just music.

OK so they're only streaming a third of the matches First up is Maru/Marinelord, then Harstem/Nerchio. They're updating results on a screen here though so I'll have that on mine (@TL_Olli) and the @TLnet twitter.

It's not like you're not going to go for a factory anyways. And you can afford to lose quite a few SCVs repairing, due to how far behind economically and tech wise going proxy marauder puts the opponent. I think it's a garbage build.

The way Harstem always goes for half-measures compared to other players kinda irks me. The two DT warp-in instead of four, not cutting triple probe production behind 7/8 gate attacks. It just doesn't seem sharp. But it works for Harstem so w/e.

What's up with that timer? 33 minutes really?
So instead of streaming more games, we have half an hour of downtime? I like WESG and what they're doing for this tournament finals, the production, everything. But this downtime is unreasonable, especially when there are so many matches. If they want more viewers they need to show more matches.

BeastyQT vs Rex is definitely the matchup we've all been waiting for. Also apparently XY isn't meant to be pronounced Ex Why. Kinda like the opposite of TY.
They should add a 2nd screen to the breaks where it shows the current results of each group and/or the progress for today.

Liquipedia is as updated as you can get for this event I believe.
Maru must be like "You really made me play these scrubs? Really?"
Okay that was really stupid.

So Nerchio plays vs MarineLorD to advance unless Harstem 2-0s both Maru & Rex, am I seeing this right?
On January 12 2017 21:31 Majick wrote: So Nerchio goes out on the 3rd place unless Harstem 2-0s both Maru & Rex, am I seeing this right?
Depends, if map score is the first tie breaker (instead of head-to-head) Nerchio is guaranteed through no matter what.
On January 12 2017 21:31 Majick wrote: So Nerchio goes out on the 3rd place unless Harstem 2-0s both Maru & Rex, am I seeing this right?
i think Nerchio is 3rd guaranteed. Probably tie breaker is decided on the map score, which Harstem cannot get better than Nerchio anymore
On January 12 2017 21:31 Majick wrote: So Nerchio goes out on the 3rd place unless Harstem 2-0s both Maru & Rex, am I seeing this right?
Nerchio is out already. Harstem cannot beat Nerchio's map score even if he 2-0ed the both of them.

But third place is not going out of the group, does it? The Liquipedia page says: "Players in Second and Third places play a match for a Round of 8 spot."
Now the question is, can XY make it 5-0?

Well it is the "ro12" basically. First place of each group is already in the ro8.

Ok thanks for clarifying
2nd and 3rd place play in the RO12, i.e. playing player from other groups who finished 2nd and 3rd for a place in the RO8 where the winner plays a guy who finished first in his group.

Top 3 of each group get out of the group stage. 1st places are directly in the Ro8, 2nd and 3rd places have to play an extra round.
Boy I wonder what kind of abusive builds Maru has in store for poor #YearOfHarstem
Cool, thanks for clarifying. I understood 2nd & 3rd in each group have to play vs each other still in the group stage and the loser gets eliminated.

Need to see that as well. Its a shame nerch didn't talk hinself up beforehand, would've made it even better
maybe for first time, terran looks like the strongest race. with maru playing, it really looks broken 2017 could be the year of terran. i wonder how GSL semis will look like... maru, inno, byun, ty? prob will be figured out before. koreans always find a way.
Oh wow already on youtube, thanks!

DOOM drop of DOOM. This could be game winning by Ben!
Yeah XY go try to build an add-on on your 2 hp starport.
this is like watching WCS NA challenger in 2013
Demu isn't getting out of the group but it would be fun if he was the only one who beat XY.

Nah he loses head-to-head with both Stephano and Namshar and he can't get more wins than either of them.
Namshar has only 7 wins, Demuslim 6 and he could get 2 more.

wow Maru really wiped the floor with his group At least Stephano managed to win some games
On January 12 2017 22:40 traitortotzeench wrote: Namshar has only 7 wins, Demuslim 6 and he could get 2 more.
Those are map wins, those aren't going to matter. Best Demuslim can do is 3-2 in matches to tie Stephano and Namshar, and since head-to-head is the first tie breaker (not map score), Demuslim is out. But you know, he's losing to XY atm anyway.
the casters' mic quality is depressing
First tournament Ive seen with Head-to-head>Mapscore. Europe Qualifiers had AvB&CvD, so should be Stephano v MarineLord and Nerchio v Namshar in R12.
The dream of Harstem being unbeatable in China has gone now

Asian sc2 back to being clear number 1?
lol group C are you kidding me? This is silly.
This is a 400k tournament. How big is sc2 in China?
Pandemona

This tournament is this big because Alibaba the giant company is the ones who have re done this World Championships. They made it good for sc2 and all individual games but the team games like CSGO and Dota 2 which they are doing tournaments for as well it not as good.
On January 12 2017 22:48 traitortotzeench wrote: First tournament Ive seen with Head-to-head>Mapscore.
Mutual match before map score is actually the traditional way and widely used in sports as well. DreamHack used map score first back in the round robin days, which is why most of SC2 viewers have used to that. Personally I think mutual match (head-to-head) first in a 2-way-tie is the better option, as it emphasizes match wins (bo3) over map wins.

I would rather see a tiebreaker match tbh. But with those big round robin groups being played at a single day i can understand why it's done differently.
The foreigners got 10-0'ed by Maru? I thought the gap between Koreans and foreignerland was closing. Guess not.

with all the money involved it was a sure thing Stephano was going to at least making past the group stage. i though Demu was also going to pass... i guess i gave him too much credit. Impressed by the results of XY and sad for Harstem
