Featuring foreigners from all over, as well as a special BaseTradeTV Korean Training House edition, we're happy to partner with Blizzard to present a 2.5 part tournament. (2.5?!? yes, just wait). Each round will feature larger Best-of series, as well as different map pools for each round to maximize the use (and testing) of each map! Part 1 & 2 of this tournament are single elimination, and part 2.5 is a chance for anyone to be revived for the finals.
Part 1 BaseTradeTV Korean Training House: $1000 (8 players)
Prize breakdown: $100 per map win, 10 maps played.
10 Map, all maps played, grand finals. Fans and audience members will vote on their 10 favourite maps and 2 favourite players that participated in either tournament up to this point. These maps & Players will be invited back to feature in the tournament grand finals in a 10 Map Finals.
Streaming partners for this will feature: BaseTradeTV Nathanias Crank Emil
Match ups streamed by Nathanias (Reminder that all matches are Bo5, and each series may begin sooner or later than the posted time if players & casters are ready to play)
Did the coinflip before the show to save time. Map selection is veto to 1 and loser's pick after A* = A (veto ABAB)

Hopefully VODS of both BSTV & Nogret will be on youtube sometime shortly after! The BSTV Part on Fed 18th is perfect but unfortunately the rest is kind of poor for us working folk (cry) But I will for sure watch every single vod and would absolutely love to listen to the casual map discussion on noregrets stream as well!
Please tell me someone will have a list of spoiler-free VOD's for this. I love the BasetradeTV guys but their YouTube page isn't great for avoiding spoilers when navigating.
Korean tournament will now be played ONLINE and not from the BaseTradeTV House. Some folks have gotten sick, and we don't want to get the guests sick. Everything should still be the same with the exception of Major being replaced by NoRegret. It's also sad that we won't be able to conduct interviews as we had hoped, but we are working on a back up plan for that.

Thank you for the updates! I wish the best of luck and health

A fixed map file was provided in the meantime. It is a pretty stupid mistake, but something that can happen even late in the process of making and testing a map. A bug from copy&paste terrain. I am very sorry that this happened, but it did not change the outcome of the game soI hope this is not so bad.

Unfortunately judges only had like 48 hours to narrow down over a hundred submissions, so nowhere near enough time to test all of the maps for stuff like this

The time given to the judges for this TLMC was a joke obviously.
New Rule: You may use permanent neutral abilities onto all maps such as Force Field or Blinding Cloud. However, note that if these features cause performance issues on lower end computers, these maps may be edited or not considered for ladder.
Those force fields are bizarre and idiotic. Adds confusion, and no up side.
All of these "permanent neutral abilities" should be removed.

there just is a chance for small mistakes to go unnoticed when one has to finish a map in very little time. We all knew that a TLMC would take place soonish, but it is not like everyone has a good number of significant and specific maps sitting around and waiting for a contest. as i have tried to explain such a ramp-bug can happen when you copy&paste terrain so it just can happen even late in the design and testing process.

i do not know about the planing process and who decides on the time between submission deadline and tournaments, but i find it difficult to blame organizers, judges or map makers. everyone involved works hard to provide interesting content.
Why the judges had so little time to look at the maps is beyond me. I can clearly see, based on the submissions, that simply the clean, high quality maps were chosen first. The fact a ramp bug existed showed they did little to no actual testing in the game, thus it was rushed.
I know they probably tried doing all of this diligently. But the scheduling in general was just abhorrent.

One of the reasons why I like Nerchio so much as an antihero is that when he's getting beaten and I could start to feel bad for him, he always finds a way to remind us that he deserves no pity.
I just like the idea that somewhere in Blizzard HQ there is someone who watches sky toss turtle games and goes "This is exactly what I want Starcraft to be"

The community too seems to like turtle sky toss considering Paradise Lost is likely going to win the map contest.

It'll easily by top 5 in TLMC vote just because it's a huge macro map that looks very good. I really couldn't see it getting ladder just because it's 5 base on 1 choke, air blockers are 100% obnoxious (didn't we already learn this on new gettys?) and the air d-rocks are brand new so unless blizzard incorporate their own air fence or whatever it'll just get taken out.

People will also vote for it because of the air destructible rocks are a "cool" gimmick (despite it having a very small impact on how the map will play out most of the time). It would be a better map without the two gimmicks and with a bigger middle, but fewer people would love it. Fewer people would hate it too for that matter, but that doesn't influence voting as much.
I'm not as sure as you are that Blizzard wouldn't put it on ladder if it wins. Blizzard often gives what the community wants rather than what it needs. The only TLMC winner that didn't end up on ladder is Biome (which is significantly worse than Paradise Lost).
Rising lava map won TLMC #2 just because of "lol lava!" so it robbed me the opportunity to watch the best Habitation Station game ever played Live in New York. Damn you Mereel! Either way, that one as well wasn't implemented either!

They also like turtle mech.
I really wish blizzard never started listening to the community.

That one was Red Bull sponsored rather than Blizzard sponsored so I didn't count it.

But why do that when you could transform to ground mode and get bitch slapped by an ultralisk?

Anti air missiles won't do that great vs ground targets even if they could hit.
Can you even afford to expand as fast as Bandarlog demands it?
Honestly I can't even imagine this being remotely balanced. Terran could float to a real base and Zerg expansions are cheaper (albeit more important). And Protoss has no counter potential because that's not even enough minerals for a good all-in.

That was my opinion as well. On the other hand, at least Abyssal Reef is a good map :D
I'm not fond of how a single adept can kill all your drones if you take the forward 3rd :p
On Abyssal I always take that base as a 4th/5th. But yeah Paradisia is one of the weaker ones IMO. Not a bad map, just too similar to a map currently in use

I think for Bandarlog, it's worth considering that this is super experimental, and I love the concept with the caveat of potentially changing the numbers on the minerals before use in the ladder. I also really don't like that horizontal spawn is a thing

That is exactly why I never expected that map to make it to the final stage.

Yeah, I'm not too thrilled it's in here either, I was the only one to vote No on it though hah

To be fair, the original version of Paradisia was designed before Abyssal Reef!!!
And come on, there's back rocks...and a farther away 5th... And 3 more watchtowers! Sure maybe the first 4 bases are fairly similar in style...lol. Although that gives me a thought, I should just retexture Paradisia with Abyssal Reef aesthetics and rename it to like...Abyssal Tides? Abyssal Plain? Hmmmmm Abyssal Reef The Sequel!!!

There are definitely some differences, my qualm with it was mostly that a lot of the differences are such that they won't really be relevant in 90% of the games. Much prefer Ascension to Aiur of your maps ^^

My favorite Sidian submission was definitely Battle on the Boardwalk. I only played one game on it where the rush feature didn't really come into play (I walled the backdoor early game and it never was used), but it was a fun one. To be honest I think with some changes that would have been a really good macro map entry.

TBH Nerchio's games look the same. I think this style is criminally underrated.

Also tbf top Korean Terrans always made ravager styles look horrible. Although I guess those were the times when tanks could fly.
Hey everyone, sorry for the delayed post here (been dealing with internet outages all day)
We'll cast Harstem vs Neeb -> Snute vs uThermal for match order. There is no prize money increase for winning the games tomorrow. The idea with this is that the extra Bo7's provide the opportunity to show off testing & creative capabilities in a more relaxed, but still competitive environment. Winning here doesn't matter necessarily as much as earning crowd favour as after the matches are complete we'll be hosting polls for the fans to vote on regarding which 2 players to invite back to the $1,000 finals + which 10 maps will be featured there.
Map pool from this point going forward will be fully unlocked, all 15 maps available for players to choose from.
So, 1 macro, 1 experiemental, 1 new & 2 rush maps didn't make it! How did votes get handled? Just Nerchio & uThermal picking the maps? Or did community vote as well. Unfortunately I haven't been able to follow this series live just due to the fact it's poor time for Est coast working class but I definitely watch every vote when possible.

Wasn't there originally supposed to be the option to vote for anyone from either parts of the tournament (so including Stats, TIME, etc.)? Was that canned? When I first saw the poll and tried to vote I didn't have any options from the Korean part.
