I will say it now, do not rule out Ryung, I have seen him beat INnovation a few times on ladder recently and he has the moves, if he can counter Maru's doom drop play it will be a close match!
I like both herO and sOs so i don't any favorite player
And for the last quarter final let see if Ryung is able to beat Maru (TvT could be very surprising). But if Ryung is the last remaining terran, it's not really dangerous for Stats the terran killer!!
I bet on Maru and herO but i was totally wrong about Inno and TY so wait and see...
sOs 3-1 herO sOs will win the first 2 games with a double proxy gateway hidden in herO's base. herO will win game 3 with a build order victory when he goes for fast DTs against sOs's lack of detection. sOs will close out the series when he sniffs out and defends against herO's blink stalker all-in.

That's called history repeats itself, not interesting. How about herO proxy gateway twice and failed, then sOs' DT rush failed, finally sOs win with blink all-in? Still we will get a 3-1 win for sOs

While I agree that games 3 and 4 in my prediction would be kind of boring, it would the height of SC2 hilarity if sOs once again beat herO with the same cheese twice in a row.
Can someone tell me please, why most people think sOs will win against herO?
Did you guys seen sOs in Ro.32 and Ro.16? Every Game i watched him in the last weeks was soooo bad, it's a wonder he advanced to the playoffs. HerO on the other side plays extremely well in all of his games so far.

i go and say 3:0 or 3:1 for herO
Maru will also 3:0 or 3:1 Ryung
sOs has a history of embarrassing herO is big matches hehe.
herO looks more crisp right now, but if they both play at their peaks sOs is the winner. sOs is one of the few players that can really switch it on sometimes
edit: I think Maru and sOs should take it, but its just as likely to go either way as TY-soO and Stats-Inno. Ryung take games of anyone in a TvT, and sOs form is shaky.

Basically this. sOs obviously has a lot of really weird builds, whether or not they're optimal is up for debate but I think sOs can squeak out 3 wins vs herO before herO adapts or figures him out

herO's idea of adapting to an opponent is not scouting his main after losing 2 games in a row to the same proxy gate.
edit: fun fact, according to aligulac sOs has faced herO in four bo5+ series in premier tournaments, and won every time (3-1, 4-1, 3-2, 3-0). he then went on to win $230K in total from those tournaments.

And that's why herO is not a top tier PvPer. sOs made him forever living under the shadow of La Cucaracha.

Then little herO probably has to retire right after that because his mental health will be destroyed completely. Overall he is a good player, I don't want to see such situation happens.

I've never assumed sOs to be fundamentally a stronger player than HerO in the general sense. That said in PvP it seems more of a tossup. HerO's standard play is stronger but sOs seems better in longer series and against standard play in ]General. Not to mention the previous history of these two players. I think it will be a close series at the very least (rooting for 3-2 HerO).

Still, you should also know by now that sOs is one of those rare players with a real X-factor like Taeja, Life and Mvp. He could totally knock out soO.

I feel we are in the most random era of SC2. There's so many gimicks in the game that even the best players can lose out on a bad day, which leads to results that defy logic, like Byun and Solar going out in the Ro32, and players like TY, Inno, and Maru going out in the Ro8, when they could have gone all the way to the finals. Player skill just fluctuates too much. Someone can be the best player in the world one week and a mid-tier player the next.

I don't remember Solar, but ByuN losing is exactly how I'd imagine he'd lose.

Basically those 3 upsets in particular happened exactly how I'd have predicted them to happen if I was asked for a scenario in which all 3 could lose out to those particular opponents.

he's still a true 2 raxxer in the heart. He simply can't play proper macro
ByuN lost to Ryung because he couldn't pure mechanic against Ryung and choked (And ByuN is a fucking choker)
TY lost cause he is shit at series prep while soO is great. He got surprised by the constant changes of all-ins and strategies and got overwhelmed.
INnoVation lost because he was unable to stop Stats from taking it to a tactical/strategic game which has always been INnoVation's weakness and he got outplayed.

I'll give you that Maru doesn't break until ro4 usually.
Problem is Ryung didnt outplay maru at all but in game 4, which was an amazing mistake by Maru again. He's only chance is to expect big mistakes from Stats again, but hey it may happen.

Whatever can cause Ryung to have flash backs to BroodLord/infestor !!!!!
Im still shocked about that series, How could Maru play so poorly after his ro16? i feel like that his opponent was Ryung didnt matter, he just lost due his big diamond league mistakes.
I think sOs is the only one who can stop Stats right now. I just don't see Stats losing a bo5/bo7 against Ryung or soO. Then I hope for a pvp finals so the finals won't be as onesided and soO doesn't get a 5th silver medal.

Also it was Has. He doesn't know what to do if a game goes past 10 minutes. Of course he wouldn't know what to spend all his money from his free 5 bases on, I didn't expect much more of him. Poor herO sOs is really his nightmare. Was it a close serie or not (speaking of skill not result ?) herO is curse in gsl
hero lost game 1 with a failed cheese and game 2 by a mistake (losing all his phenix early to sos). The other were herO ahead in terms of macro game. Game 5 I though herO had it but somehow he threw so hard.

what are you talking about ? All the favorite Terrans are eliminated (only 1 advanced by TvT) and you are here, still complaining about wm ?

It's simply because Terran losing in two incredibly close sets does not mean that Terran isn't imbalanced. I mean two fairly equally skilled people can win against each other on a given day, and one race can be stronger than the other.
But regardless, soO, Stats, sOs, and Ryung are left, and they are all players who have done well in tournaments but have never won a GSL before. I think it is very gratifying that this GSL will be a great storyline for anyone of this players.
I mean Ryung:Avenging his ro4 loss to finally claim the GSL sOs:Blizzcon and IEM champion finally adds the elusive GSL to his titles soO: Ultimate vindication and ending of his Kong line Stats: Out of the shadows to win his first Premier tournament
I mean these guys have never won a Starleague, but they've all come within at least a ro4 of making it.

I don't think that's him complaining about widow mines as much as it is him saying Blizzard are gonna nerf them no matter how the Terrans would have done.

I enoyed today's games, was really happy for Ryung that he made it through. Also quite shocked at the amount of negativity in Twitch chat during the games though. (On re-reading that last sentence, I shouldn't have been.) I'll admit I enjoy watching GSL more with Tastosis too, but there's other ways to voice your criticism. So, Rapid and Valdez: thanks for casting, but next time I would enjoy some actual analysis of the games being played.

It terms of what actually happened in game. Has was a bigger throw, he could have done anything and won but he choose to sit on 5K/5K and litterally not do anything, then suicide most of his army.
In terms of perspective, Maru's blunder was a much smaller mistake (unseigeing all his tanks at once) but cost him a lot more (he could very well have taken this GSL), wheras Has would have qualified for a cup and been knocked out straight away.
I guess it's debatable I guess which is the bigger throw

exactly this, but some people seem to be rather short-tempered here

Dunno i think overall Maru's results are amazing tbh. Especially when we add proleague as well (we should) His only failure really is that he couldn't win a GSL yet, but his results in GSL aren't bad by any means.

Well "most skilled" is surely true. As in the total skill players have increases over time (a lot of it due to metagame development). Though if we talk about mechanical skill only i don't think that top players these days are necessarily better than top players three years ago. At least not by any meaningful margin. Like you have to practice certain things a lot to even manage to stay at the same mechanical lvl. I will use a BW example here because i watch a lot of JD's stream and iirc he even said that the muta micro simply isn't the same anymore. back in the day the zerg players trained that aspect of the game every single day for a few hours on custom maps. Now nobody does that, it's not on the same lvl anymore. Point being: Mechanical skill doesn't necessarily increase over time when we are basically at the limit what humans can do anyway. No we won't see better marine splits in the future even though that AI showed it is theoretically possible.
Oh and what i personally mean when i question the concept of most skilled era is actually the lvl of competition in general. So many top talents retired over the years, everybody capable of beating top players with enough preparation, etc. I am not even only talking about people like Parting, Rain, Soulkey, Life, Flash, Taeja. I am also talking about people like Jangbi, Effort, Last, Fantasy, etc. It's not comparable to the lvl of competition a few years ago. Some people even think the competition was more fierce back when Mvp won his titles, i disagree though. It's comparable to now though all things considered imo.

I don't blame him that much for what happened there. who would think in that situation that Byul would move a drone to the island base via dropperlord? not nearly as bad as suiciding your entire army into a depot liberator tank wall when you're 2 base to 1 base.

Well regardless, nothing beats ByuL vs Revival.
That was a throw so foul I can't even bring myself to link it

oh yeah I forgot about that that's certainly a serious contender for throw of the century.
also Zest vs TaeJa on new gettysburgh was a pretty huge throw
herO had that game vs Dark where he had almost won, then danced his army too soon and lost all of it. Dark came back for quite a while but herO still won. If he'd lost I think that would be up there
So many Dear derps posted in here. Always good to see.
I always like to think of Inno throwing his 30 to 10 scv lead against Mvp on Akilon though. Couldn't even beat a broken backed has been with that lead.

Dear vs Leenock (or was it roro?) where he mannered 6 nexi and lost??!
I cant belive sOs is so far in code s, i mean he is so bad this year, his games vs Nerchio were 1-6 and then Showtime came in and 6-0 Nerchio, i was like damn this sOs is trash, dude is joke. If soO dont 3-0 this guy means gsl is not so scary anymore. Stats vs soO in finals. Hope so.

if you watch a lot of sc2 than you would know that those aren't the only games sOs has played

In 2017 they are. Honestly he had 2 easy groups (even though God Billowy almost eliminated him) and his personal punching bag in the Ro8. He hasn't looked like someone who should get top 4 in GSL this year so far but yet there he is. Meanwhile someone like INnoVation (who has looked leagues better) is out in the Ro8.
Of course it's also not sOs' fault that all the other top players that didn't make top 4 are chokers or fools making their own Ro16 groups too difficult. So good on him for not choking, making an easy group and getting top 4.
Obviously he deserves being in the top 4 this season though, if he didn't, he wouldn't have made it. But it's still kinda strange because this really hasn't been a good start to the year for him other than this GSL run.
To be fair to sOs although he is inconsistent he can pull of incredible wins when he actually puts in the effort. His own teammates said he's the laziest sc2 player they know.
Although he has had by far the easiest road to the semis. If inno, ty, maru, dark, classic etc got his seeding they would have cruised through it. sOs on a bad day will always have fun playing herO lol

Until the Ro8 yes. But herO is a harder opponent for any of those guys than for sOs.

I don't think sOs beats anyone else in the ro8. maybe ryung or maru he could take, but only maybe

Outside of TvT Ryung is probably the weakest player in the top 8.
Also I didn't say he would. I said herO is a much tougher opponent for everyone who isn't sOs. So for anyone not called sOs getting to the Ro4 with the same set of opponents would be a lot less trivial.
