Will this be streamed with full production, or just some nerds in a basement?
And wow, there is a Czech stream? There are any Czech people casting SC2? Why nobody asked me?
And one more topic of conversation: who the hell is Sinistro and how come he saves e-sports with 300 posts while the 5-figure slackers just watch? Way to go man!
CZ/SK stream must be a new thing, didn't see it before either - I'll most likely stick to classic ENG cast but good to know ESL is thinking about our part of the world.
to the brackets - expecting Stats(duh) and either Harstem or Snute(also duh) to qualify anything else would be a huge surprise
Someone taking my job...not sure whether to cry with joy or be scared !! Thanks for the thread Sinistro hit me up on PMs if you need any help or if you can't do the rest of the days.

Sorry, I just didn't see anything done to the event and made one (events submission too, but that is another story). The CZ info was on liquipedia, I believe it is right, or maybe whoever did that just copy/pasted the template from somewhere else.
Nothing personal against Stats but I really hope he gets knocked out early. He's in the GSL semifinals already; he doesn't need to do well at Katowice nearly as much as a ton of other players do.
Can someone explain how these qualifiers work? In particular, why do some people have to go through a server qualifier while others go through this offline qualifier? Can they do both?

In theory you could do both, but realistically it's better to qualify through the online (server) qualifiers, because qualifying through those means you get paid travel and accommodation while your or you team have to pay the expenses if you go to the offline qualifiers. People who go through the offline qualifiers are mostly those who didn't make it online.

How is it that Jin Air players didn't get flown to Katowice?

ha ha !
They put Stats in 1 and thw rest of good players in #3
To be fair though Harstem threw it by letting Lambo transition to lurkers so easily. With the amounts of FF immortals adepts he had he had more than enough to at least pressure more when he was posturing outside Lambo's third ; he even scouted how few units Lambo had at that moment with a hallucinated phoenix.
qualifying matches should indeed have been bo5 though. I understand that the players thought it was the case going into the series since that's the tacit rule

to be fair Stats never really had to engineer a comeback ; it was a complete all-in that should have killed more probes before DTs could defend. It could have worked with a few things going better, but it didn't and the counter was bound to kill.

By the way, props to the production so far. I think it's really great that, while they focus on one series, they also had their analysts in the other matches in the earlier rounds. I feel for once I can watch a big tournament and it's not completely necessary to have 6 other streams open to get everything.

I've sorta learnt to like how unforgiving and cruel SC2 can be. Once you've accepted that it's just in the nature of the game to be harsh and sometimes frustrating I feel you deal with the inevitable losses far more easily.

every single GSL actually, most of premier tournament winners outside 2014
I don't always find I enjoy every series though, but watching SC2 is subjective as hell.
Most games are pretty mediocre imo. My subjective opinion is the truth though
most of the times I can find things I find entertaining in a game. Most of the games have very little rewatching value though.
I think what a lot of sc2 games lack is a clear development of tension. Back and forth action, lots of player interactions where every single one adds up to something bigger, etc. The pacing is not enjoyable for me a lot of the time.

quite brutal :
- first game (Newkirk) PiliPili took some unnecessary damage from mines drops after a stargate opener but got a big economy while uThermal was gearing for a tank / marine push. The tank / marine push didn't do much and Pili looked ahead, but he began doing mistakes and ended up shading in 7 mines and losing everything.
- second game (Bel'shir Vestige) PiliPili goes for a blink stalker all-in with a prism, but uThermal probably smelt it and has a very good defensive setup with tanks in both bases and repels the all-in easily. PiliPili then attempts to get a 3rd, DTs and disruptors, but he gets too much damage from uThermal constant dropping and can't do anything when he finally pushes into the natural.

That was a well-timed and well-executed push from Heromarine and Elazer just made some mistakes like letting his reinforcements get cut off and killed for nothing. Good bane hits but it wasn't enough.
Even if Elazer makes it out of the loser bracket (and he should) I don't envy his chances going forward if that is the best he can do against Terran. There are bigger and scarier Terrans than Heromarine waiting in the Ro24.

PiliPili made a lot of mistakes and really should have been punished for that, but I disagree with the way Dayshi attacked (a drop in the main that got repelled by overcharge and a push with a little force at the third that got destroyed with the main army). A full-out push at the 3rd would have killed Pili.

Wire is trying to frame me for something that never happened I secretly think adepts should be buffed though
i see that even after years, dayshi in pvt is dayshi in pvt : when he doesn't know what to do, he just pick up unit in his medivac to find the best way to suicide

So French casters say "When ahead, think of what Dayshi would do, and then do the opposite of that"?

So as we know Dayshi can turn an easily won game into a hard fought battle (and sometimes into a loss even) but can he confuse his opponent when incredibly far behind ?
On February 28 2017 04:03 [PkF] Wire wrote: the French stream is a bit ahead, but Dayshi is going to hate life soon
Dayshi always hates his life when he plays vs Protoss.
DAE remember a game where a Protoss warped in adepts in plain sight in Dayshi's main and after he didn't react to it and lost he complained about adepts on twitter?
Actually never mind, that's every 4th Dayshi TvP and way too unspecific.

I don't think unthrowable is a reality in SC2
"Unthrowable" is an abstract construct going off the implication that "From the point a game is deemed as 'unthrowable', both players will play the remainder of the game out perfectly."

a throw is when you have a clear step 1, step 2, step 3 plan that you can easily execute that makes it impossible for an opponent to win and then you lose.
So I'd consider an unthrowable game a game that your opponent will GG out of no matter what you actually choose to do.

problem is you can always decide to leave (IdrA-style) so that there is always a course of action that leads to you losing
there are situations that are "unthrowable" at the top level but even then we saw some incredible comebacks getting engineered between pros so it's really tricky to even attempt to define that concept

never underestimate carriers, Elazer recently lost to ArT going skytoss
So Pili is a skytoss guy ?
everyone is a skytoss guy, it doesn't take a Zest to play a style that requires 90apm
did we actually see skytoss games among Koreans ?
most of games on Echo, Daybreak and Proxima
really ? I'm surprised I thought at some point Z had found some solutions with neural etc
you can win macro games, but it relies on protoss clumping all air under the MS for fungal+parasitic bomb
so the situation is quite reminiscent of broodlord infestor : - the reliable way to win is to hydra/bane all-in instead of soultrain - you can win macro games if the P clumps everything and you get money fungals + PB (you could win macro games with good archon toilets)

not even since baneling toilet was a thing that existed actually airtoss could beat BL/inf in WoL too, albeit the games rarely happened (iirc it was MC doing towards the end of WoL)

"solutions" that rely on the opponent not having an observer
The trick is to neural a probe and build your own deathfleet
I can see this working on Honorgrounds. The map is so freaking big, so many bases
Stephano once had a game on this map vs Gungfubanda on his stream where he had an opportunity to do that, but he gave up on it since he would never catch up on upgrades (and he was winning by abusing runbys and drops with cracklings anyway)

+1 air actually used to be part of that build. I mean I haven't seen it forever but I remember at the height of it people made +1 air to shrek the hydras harder.
Pili didn't have a twilight right ? Somehow I thought he had glaives researched. And it's definitely a carrier build now so we'll see how Elazer deals with it

tbf you are supposed to get carapace upgrades on hydras so interceptors just tickle them, then health buff could help.
but in the end just nerf the fucking carrier. It's a 0 micro unit that literally nobody likes.
wait and see then
I don't think nobody likes the carrier. It's an iconic unit after all. But in sc2 it kept navigating between impractical and overpowered and I actually don't think you can find a sweet spot for this unit balance wise.
