aLive winstreak of 7 is misleading?! He won 4 in a row March and continued to win 3 in a row in June. At prizepool overview he won 4 in March and 7 in June, looks like 11 wins in total. edit: I mean the winning table

Yeah this one. If this game was fair, he would've straight up lost the game to Protoss moving out there!

Olli is just salty that he was so scared of your 5 brood lords that he let you recover from being down 80 supply
PvZ is rough man, you never know if the Zerg isn't hiding 50 banelings somewhere
You joke, but it's actually true with lings. Lings cost nothing and kill your base if you leave it.
I was only half joking. If you lose your stargate units, it becomes really hard to scout exactly how the zerg is doing. I had broods, it would make sense to actually have units to support them, considering they're tier 3 and all that.
Ah yes, here we go again with the "best StarCraft II of all time!!" nonsense. Can't we just agree that people are playing well and not simultaneously put down everything everyone did before?

So has the opposite narrative: The previous era was obviously the best so no player could ever top them.

Almost every narrative pushed in eSports is fake and stupid to be fair.

logically it makes the most sense that the skill-level is the highest when the scene is the most competitive. So in 2013-15 as the amount of koreans playing back then was far higher and proleague was a thing.
that doesn't mean that the top players back then can never be topped though.

Yeah but players get better the longer they play. People say WoL was the most competitive, but the skill level of HoTS was clearly higher

No, this is only true if the level of competition remains the same or increases.
However in SC2 that is probably the case, so it's fine.

people don't get better the longer they play. as you get older your reaction time decreases and your hands won't move as fast anymore.

Or they break their wrists, necks, backs, and eventually can't play to the level they used to play. MVP at top form would, I believe, still beat any player playing today.

At a certain point yes (if you're getting closer to 30 maybe). But for the most part your skill increases with hours played.
Look at Inno, TY, Stats, ByuN etc. These guys took 5-10 years of professional play before they reached the top

I think the problem was the disparity in economy
Yeah, but it was caused because the initial situation had him with a tank army vs the initial broodlords.
people always talk about european zvz being so good but then Dark who is the worst ZvZer out of the top korean zergs just casually goes 9-1 against the 3 best european Zergs.

Well it's not just people, Rogue himself said he went 0-6 or something vs Elazer on ladder before their GSL group. Elazer had 80% ZvZ against the absolute top zergs like Rogue, Dark and soO and was really suprised by this, but got completely stomped by Terran ang got angry about how bad EU Terrans are .
But I agree that Dark vs foreign zergs is really funny, always looking forward to those games.

Sick ZvZ. Can't help but feel bad for Serral - had he anticipated Brood Lords quick enough he would have been in a great position (given how he had triple the bank Rouge had).

Terran has to kill the natural or most of the drones to be ahead right?
If you kill the natural the Zerg is dead.
If you don't, surely you're behind though?
Making them pull drones and spend all their larva on lings combined with actually killing some of the drones makes the game basically even at worst at this level of play.

I suppose. Still don't agree with TBs call of Kela being so ahead

If you kill the natural you're ahead (and almost sure to win you don't lose to some counter attack).
But I'm sure it depends on how you go from there to. Kel went for early gases and factory/starport but you can also get for an early second base yourself. It's a bit more risky tough.

Rogue had no tech other than lings (with hellions & starport already on the way) and less workers than the Terran, it wasn't terrible for Kelazhur. But I think Rogue went pool first? So basically it did less than usual.

Kela only just started his second CC. Rogue would have gotten very far ahead in workers and saturated his third but chose to go allin

I refer you to Serral vs ByuN from GSL vs The World where ByuN's opening went similarly poorly and his banshees did nothing but he was fine.
These 1/1 roach/ravager timings are a fucking pain in the ass to hold
TY went for a 3 CC build. Its a great build but you must be on top of your scouting. Rouge attacked just a bit before TYs eco would have converted into a huge army.
TY was lazy with his scouting, didn't realize its roach ravager, so he didn't have the tanks/maruders/libs to hold it. Rouge scouted well what TY was doing, so he went for what TY's build was weak against. (3 CC is a lot of marines early on, but no tanks...).
5 sieged Tanks and Rouges army would have failed...

TY started making tanks before he even saw the first roaches on the map. That timing is hard as hell to hold with TY's opening no matter what.
Dark doesn't have a weak matchup? Has TB not seen Dark play a Korean Zerg in 2017? edit: According to Aligulac, ZvZ is Dark's weakest current match up.

Oh come on now, it's not like there is something else to do in the early game ; after all, PvP is all about the 2 gate openers now in LotV Seriously though, I just disagreed with you, this is not a reason to get mad.
I'm not mad you're just annoying lol
Well, like I said, at that stage of the game I had nothing else to do but listen to your casting (and TB's), so yeah you could say I nitpicked a comment and it's annoying. But this is a discussion thread, so I discussed (though I'll admit my post could have used a bit more substance). I could have nitpicked TB's terrible/amazing Neeb pun and you would not have cared one bit. Anyway, let's move on, cannon rushes are rare and fun

For a viewer I'd say so because they are much more aggressive of a unit. However, I want to see the response zergs really come up with. It's only recently it's gotten much more popular and Zergs are still flailing around

Those disruptor shots were disgusting. I almost feel sorry for Byun. Heck, I feel sorry for most of Neeb's opponents. He's made Protoss look disgusting today

more seriously increasing the energy spent with each shot (and even the cost of the attack spell if needed) could help making oracles less good en masse ; they're too good vs hydras when they have a lot of energy pooled
While this was a fun event to watch, it did nothing but make the rich richer and proves that Blizzard really isn't interested in SC2 faring any better as an esport. How cool would it have been to give some Chinese players the opportunity to win $500, or some NA aspiring players like Semper or EU like Optimus or Soul. Instead it was just people who have won $100,000+ already or who are on big teams fighting for 500 bucks. Making the prize pool of Blizzcon bigger accomplishes very little for the scene besides those few top players so I wish they would have let the rest of the warchest money trickle down.

Chinese SC2 is doing fine. They have their own circuit and teams that are plenty popular.

As cool as that sounds, it wouldn't be watched as much. I for one don't know or care who those player are

If you want any quality in large tournaments before the round of 16, this probably isn't the right response.

and in case you're for some reason being serious I suggest watching previous iterations of this tournament - all the players you mentioned already played and will probably be invited in the future again.

actually it is pretty correct response - if you want to get to Ro16 you have to win something.
Is it just me or is it kind of bullshit that this primarily crowdfunded (warchest) event requires a suscription to TB's channel to watch the Vods?
Yes I know the videos will eventually be on youtube, but they take a long time to upload and contain spoilers due to the video length and thumbnails. I love the Cast and everything TB does for Starcraft, but the standard for every other blizzard sponsored SC2 event is instant complete twitch VODs after completion, and I don't see why this even should be any different, especially considering that TB is not primarily a Starcraft streamer.

WTF
it's tournament ran by TB, on his personal channel - his rules. Blizzard just sponsors it - it's not run by them. And warchest is not crowdfunding.

This event is not primarily crowdfunded at all. It was $5000 before warchest funding. 25% of warchest funding goes to tournament funding, so at best you can argue, half of the prizemoney is crowdfunded (and none of the other costs like paying admins, co-casters, artists and prize payment processing fees) and at the least, crowdfunding makes up about $1250 of the $5000 extra given on top of the $5000 that was already being paid for by Blizzard.
Any way you slice it the event is not primarily crowd-funded.
I'd make ya a deal though. If it were possible (which its not, but if it were). If you could prove you'd bought the warchest, I'd give you a free sub.
For the people that haven't bought it, well, what do you think you're entitled to?
I've seen the cancer that is tournament chat. I won't let it take over my Twitch chat. If you have a problem with that, you are free to petition Blizzard to make an event, fund it, produce it, promote it, and stream it on your channel where you can do whatever you want with the chat.

difficult to just "win some games" when all the current progamers have had years of full-time practice and up-and-coming players have difficulties to get any money and thus have a hard time justifying investing to much time into this game. It's of course cool that Shoutcrafts and Blizzcon get extra money but I think the question if the money would be better spend on challenger or some other tournament where lower-level players have a chance is legitimate.

Why do people deserve money if they can't win games?

Its not communism, its competitive.
Do you want the SC2 professional scene to be just the same 20 or so pros who can win consistently enough to make a living?
Hell, if it weren't for Blizzard stifling competition with region locking Koreans, 16 of them would probably be Korean.

This discussion so uninteresting and lacking in any real insight.
It's grandstanding and nothing more. You wanna fix the flaws you see in SC2 right now? Go do that. Go make something. Anything. Do anything other than whine on forums because that's absolutely useless.
There's little more bothersome in this scene than people "trying to help" by posting on forums. It's been annoying since the very start of it and its still annoying today. Make a thing. Put up, or shut up. Don't try to manipulate other peoples work. Do your own. I can tell you for a fact that we are not listening to feedback on the invites, or who gets paid what. We're pros at this by now, we've been doing it since SC2 beta. There's no useful feedback you are capable of giving on those matters.
Why a bunch of people suddenly decided to get a giant hardon for the belief that Kings now represents everything wrong with the equality of this scene while GSL and WCS continue to give hugely top-heavy prize distributions out every year is anyones guess. If I were to hazard it though, it'd be that one persons event is an easier bitching target than WCS or GSL.
I'll tell ya what doesnt get pros paid, crying on forums.

Fair enough, and my bad, I was under the impression that the warchest funding was an even larger part of the prize pool. If there's any method that would satisfy you to prove the warchest tho, I'd gladly take you up on that offer haha
Yet another great installment of ShoutCraft Kings, kudos to TB for all his work. I was glad to have been able to commentate the event in Polish alongside Emil. Cheers!

Yeah I did, because those arent contradictory positions.
Let's say you believe in privatized healthcare. Do you suddenly refuse to use the public healthcare system of your country? No of course not. You a libertarian? Cool, better never use a publicly funded thing ever then, hope you don't like driving on roads.
It is possible to not like a thing and still benefit from it and in fact it's incredibly stupid not to. Me, I prefer doing things to make this scene better and I dont have much patience for people who just whine and think thats a contribution to anything.
I mean you'd have to be pretty much insane to think that turning down sponsorship money from our primary sponsor is ever going to happen. Blizzard sponsors the event and always has. Where the money comes from doesn't matter in the slightest and as far as you know, every cent of it could have been warchest funded even if there hadnt been a prizepool increase and we would not have known or been able to do a damn thing about it.

Your government services analogy is bullshit. We all pay taxes and are functionally responsible for the debt governments accumulate. You can use a service you don't like when you don't have a reasonable alternative and are forced into paying for it and not be a hypocrite.
I can't speak to the finances of your twitch channel, but are you saying that sub money that the channel earns doesn't go to you? Do you think nobody subscribes just because of the one event?
You're smart enough to know that the average person is extremely limited in their ability to support the scene. Suppose I had a million great ideas on tournaments and how prize pools should be distributed, do you think Blizzard would cut me a check for $5,000 a month to do that regardless of how thorough or professional my proposal is? Hell no because I'd have zero reputation nor do I represent a known company or brand. How long do you think it would take to establish that reputation? 6 months? A year? 2? How much time and money would I have to spend to build that and what guarantee is there that Blizzard wouldn't just decide to cut their support for the scene by then? Even if there were a guarantee, that's a lot to ask of someone when there is no payoff outside of personal sanctification.
Nobody is blaming SHOUTcraft Kings for all the scene's ills. Don't set up straw men.

You seem fairly intelligent and reasonable.. not sure how said person gets to a place where they would argue with TB that somehow.. him accepting more money for the event he was already doing is hurting the scene in any way or (and this is even sillier) making the rich get richer and making it so we have "the same 20 pros" etc. I mean.. I can quote you further but you know what you said right?
It wasn't smart or good. It isn't TB's job to make tourneys with the explicit purpose you think is most "important" for the scene and criticizing him for putting on a show that you think could have it's funds go elsewhere is really really dumb. Be happy he has made it part of his business to make shows / content we can enjoy. If you'd like other forms of content empower the people who can / would do it as best you can. Tearing down TB doesn't actually do that btw.
How long do you think it would take to establish that reputation? 6 months? A year? 2?
I spent 8.
Better get a move on, times a wastin'. Aint nobody giving you anything for a forum post, especially when its got such inaccuracies as claiming we're just propping up the top 20 players when we've now invited over 70 to our event, with 3 new invitees today alone.
I respect people who try to do something meaningful, even if its really small. Grandstanders and backseat organizers? Not so much. People who treat arguments as if they're videogames to be won and judged on points? Not so much either. You really think that government analogy matters at all? You got the point, but then you tried to play semantics with it because you're more concerned with "winning" an internet argument than building anything. There aren't any winners, there's no prizes, no points, nobody is acting as judge. Its a literal waste of time, he says in full awareness that he's also wasting his time.
If people dont have enough respect for the work I do to avoid stooping to silly levels like trying to make bullshit hypocrisy arguments or trying to dictate where money that doesn't belong to them goes, I'm not going to respect what they have to say either. That should be common sense, nobody is owed respect by default beyond basic politeness (until they stop being polite....). Respect has to be earned and respect that isnt earned isnt worth anything anyway.
8 years. 8 years of the bullshit and the complaining and the disrespect, even now. Some would wonder why I put up with it and sometimes I ask that question myself. A lot of people didnt put up with it and just left when the going got tough for greener pastures and more money. Maybe instead of trying to browbeat those of us that are left, try to help us make the scene better instead.
it was a greate and very funny SC2 event today! Thanks to TB and everyone who helps to let SHOUTCraft Kings happen!
And to all who complain about the extra prizemoney for shoutcraft kings. TB is dedicating a lot of time and money to run some fun and a little bit less serious events("most unfair tournamnet in SC2" ) and if blizz decides to inverst more money into it, than that´s great. to say that shoutcraft kings didn´t do anything for the scene is simply not right. It has one of the highest viewerships of all SC2 events and is creating a lot of really cool stroies of which there are not too many in SC2. Both are things that are essential to get new people into the scene.
And even if you have a different opinion on that, don´t blame TB for things he can do anything about it. It´s not his fault that there is no Code A or anything like it anymore. Blizzard is not a charity organisation, the only reason for them to invest money into SC2-esport is that it is an advertisement for their game.
Convince blizz that it is worth it to run tournaments for up and coming players and things like that but don´t talk shit about things that have nothing to do with that.

Koreans were playing well past midnight though. Foreigners had an unfair advantage.
Lal tahts standard. Korean progamers frequently keep late hours and absolutely adjust schedules when they know they have big events coming up that require it.

As far as I see on liquipedia, koreans didn't perform that bad, just terrans. That doesn't surprise me much :D
Why is everyone arguing on the last pages? What is this debate about?
Don't really know why people are hating, this tournament is probably the best regular SC2 event right after the Korean leagues, the players apparently want to participate in this (with the increased prize pool they even have more incentive to do so) and they know the schedule beforehand, so they should be able to plan and prepare accordingly.
