As I mentioned in my tweet the other day, I've decided to hold a little invitational tournament for the players who got DQ'd from the PyeongChang tournament due to possible WESG schedule conflicts.
When? Friday, Dec 22 and Saturday, Dec 23. Start time both days is 2PM Pacific. Groups on Friday. Semi-finals and Finals on Saturday.
Casters? This event is being cast by the awesome Gauntlet folks.
Format? 2 3-player Round Robin Groups. Top 2 players from each advance to Bo5 semi-finals, followed by Bo7 finals.
Groups? Group 1: SpeCial Scarlett puCK
Group 2: Neeb KelaZhur JonSnow
Prize Pool? As of the time of this writing, we are up to $2,590 on our Matcherino page (holy cow you are a generous community)! If you would also like to contribute to the prize pool, do so here: https://matcherino.com/tournaments/9280/
Breakdown for payout is: 40%/20%/12.5%/12.5%/7.5%/7.5%
Ya know, there is a lack of double-elimination online tournaments in StarCraft these days... *wink wink*
Awesome to hear the Gauntlet dudes are into it. Looking forward to hearing when it'll happen! Fingers and toes crossed for no scheduling predicaments too!
Double Elimination would be best to extend out the entire tournament. Also may bring extra Hype! Also Also: Let's try to get scheduled Player Interviews during down time or something. Let's make this the most hyped professional invitational ever!

If it were only 4 players, I think a BO5 round robin then 1st and 2nd play a BO7 for the finals would make for a more thrilling tournament.
We're getting this party started a little later today - I cant wait guys! Thanks for all the support with this. The current prize pool is up to $2,750!
I'm bemused that Kelazhur is still going for High Capacity Fuel Tanks. It's been like two or three months since he's started researching it occasionally, so the fact that he is still doing that means that he thinks it's effective? I really don't see it.

But how many maps against Dark did you win at Blizzcon?
It's a really good, underrated upgrade, but Kelazhur's love for it is indeed something else.

Which is why it's awkward to get since later on you usually want reactors on starports. Maybe getting it after researching advanced ballistics would be okay.

Yeah. I've often wondered how pulling some of the tech lab upgrades onto engineering bays/armories would impact the game. It could have some balance problems (stim), but more upgrades might finally see the light of day.
just a quick note for today - while the stream goes live in a bit under an hour, the first hour of the stream is going to be replays from yesterday. The new games wont start until 3pm pacific (apologies for the last minute delay - we just needed to delay a bit for our players in Korea).

He was using a very standard anti-hydra/lurker comp...
I feel like Neeb has been hurt more than most by the disruptor changes.
I'm pretty sure the Disruptor change is why Lurkers are such a problem for Protoss and is a huge part of why PvZ is so broken, so all Protoss have been hurt by it.

Cmon Scarlett you can do better than that

Yeah... that was one of the worst executed ling drops I've ever seen.
The decision to keep producing lings and not immediately going back to droning when the Oracle was revealed was very baffling.
Edit: then again, upon reflection, maybe Scarlett simply - upon realizing Neeb was opening 3 Adept Oracle which obviously is a build order win for Protoss - decided to go for a hail mary ling commitment knowing there would no longer be any way of winning without Neeb messing up.

You're in a pretty difficult position decision-wise though if you get no damage done. I was more thinking of the execution with queens slowly walking across the map, lings sitting in the oracle beam without moving, and no defense at all at home.

I don't think it's the biggest thing (though it certainly didn't help). PvZ was zerg favoured even before the nerf, and disruptors were kind of an iffy solution against lurkers since lings kept on intercepting the balls--I thought regular immortal-heavy stuff was better against them even before the nerf.

By Disruptor change, I was thinking the 4.0 one, not the shot delay.

Yeah, the not picking the lings back up into the overlords (or at least moving them away) after the Oracle's Bean had been activated was way way below Scarlett's usual awesomeness

I wonder. People were going for Immortal/Archon stuff mainly when players like Nerchio went for lurkers pre-patch (though disruptors were certainly also a common response). The existence of the speed-lurker upgrade might change things a bit, but I'm not sure they'd change things in favour of disruptors, since it also means that lurkers could run away from disruptor balls better.

They worked out pretty well for JonSnow against MajOr's 2 port speed-banshees (though that's definitely a SpeCial situation).

Pre 4.0, Protoss could tech while still taking a 3rd. I imagine the removal of the mothership core is a big part of why that's no longer really done.

Major is just on another level right now though, at least in TvZ
It’s more like he just has Scarlett’s number right now. He’d lose to about half of top EU Zergs and most KR Zergs. And he almost always loses to Neeb, but Scarlett keeps taking him out before he gets a chance to play Special.
Now that the event is over, if anyone has feedback (good or bad) they'd like to share I would love to hear it. I may run more, larger, events like this in the future and your feedback is crucial to my decision making.
The Gauntlet duo treating the start of games like it is still HotS and nothing happens till the 2 minute mark was super irritating. Even entering the game at the 1 minute mark can cause you to miss things like pylon blocks/cancels (did the Protoss actually do that or just fake it?). They can be ignoring the game and bantering during that time like literally every set of casters does, but at least give us the option of following what is going on if we want. I can't imagine how someone who is new and can't infer what likely happened or how a Zerg opened thought about that.
like 20% of games began with cheeses that we didnt have time to fully get hype for because we only started seeing the game once the first offensive units were already out. With LoTV, even in macro games its good to be able to see openers because build orders branch off so quickly, so even if theres no action going on its good to be able to see the nuances of the pros.
