Zerg's pretty strong against Protoss, but not sure to what extent. Korean ZvP is pretty different from Foreign ZvP right now, which makes things a bit harder to gauge. Zergs dominating EU isn't anything particularly new.

We're back in that weird state where Korean Protoss are doing quite well and foreign ones not so much.
Zergs do regularly dominate the EU, but usually there's more than one Protoss that qualifies.

Looking at last year WCS EU qualifier top 8s, there were 3 Protoss for Austin, 2 for Jonkoping, 1 for Valencia, and 1 for Montreal, so it isn't too unusual.

The only upset was Showtime being eliminated by Bly. However Showtime has been underperforming for the last year or so, therefore even that is relative.

Can someone explain to me where the drawing are being made for the playoff ? Cause I went looking into the rules https://wcs.dreamhack.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/StarCraft-II-WCS-Challenger-Pre-season-Tournament-Ruleset.pdf
and it said that the four first and four second are ranked through their wcs points into 2 groups 1A 1B 2A 2B. And then 1A vs 2B is drawn and 1B vs 2A.
So according to last year wcs liquipedia.net points we have: 1A Elazer Serral 1B Nerchio Uthermal
2A Snute Stephano 2B Bly Harstem
So we should have Elazer vs Bly, Serral vs Harstem, Nerchio vs Snute and Uthermal vs Stephano right?
Did I miss something? In any case even with the rule everything seems very obscure...

It seems like they switched harstem and stephano which would lead to the drawing we currently have on liquipedia.
|
I would say they swiched Bly and Harstem as theymight play players from group stage in semi-finals, so yes there is something wrong with this.
|
On January 07 2018 09:57 Kafka777 wrote: I would say they swiched Bly and Harstem as theymight play players from group stage in semi-finals, so yes there is something wrong with this.
Yes the rules specify that you don't play against the people in your previous groups, but here I meant that they swapped harstem and stephano from 2A to 2B. In both cases there is no need for a random draw indeed if: 1A=Elazer Serral 1B=Nerchio uthermal
2A=Snute Stephano 2B= Harstem Bly
Then 1A vs 2B has to give Elazer Bly and Serral harstem (harstem and Elazer same group) And for the same reason since Snute and uthermal were in the same group you would have Nerchio Snute and uthermal stephano.
Now if you swap stephano and harstem you have 2A Snute harstem and 2B stephano Bly. And the. 1A vs 2B give Elazer vs stephano and Serral vs Bly ( Stephano and Serral same group) And 1B vs 2A give Nerchio Snute and uthermal harstem ( again Snute same group as uthermal).
That's my understanding anyway .
|
You are right, but Stephano being 2A is a fluke he is much more secondary 2B ;-)
|

It seems that Elazer practiced with Bly for their matches and now they might be forced to play a qualifier with each other. It's getting better and better.

This is seriously unfair to the players, especially those that may have done preparation for their matches.

I seriously hope we get an official statement for this.

Two hours. You get two hours to set up, and do all preparation, directly after which you jump into the series.
I don't think this helps that much =/

lol is wcs understaffed? it'd be nice to have a checklist for the admins to check off for each step like: do the brackets correctly

The bracket for the NA qualifier is wrong too...

Starting EU qualifiers final stage at 10 pm instead of 7 pm is also not fair for players, not everyone can play very well after midnight.
