Normally sOs is the wild card of any tournament or group he's in, but I feel like ByuL is the real unknown variable in this group. He was very good to start the 2017 season (3 top 4 finishes) but was pretty bad at the end. (failed to qualify for GSL season 3) What's his current form? How much has he been practicing? The Koreans probably have a good sense of what his game is like these days, but I have no clue.

I'm happy for Sortof that he qualified, it'd be a HUGE upset if he gets through this group, best of luck.
Zergs are doing great in ZvP in EU so he should be fine, altho I feel like SortOf can qualify!

So it could be the last televised matches of Byul ?
Didn't he announce his retirement last year? Maybe he changed his mind.
If he still plays in his spare time, going to the qualifiers for fun and the chance of an easy payday is not a bad decision. That's basically what MyuNgSiK did in season 1 last year.

Didn't someone say ByuL found his passion again and wants to commit full time?

I don't know. I'm just saying that him qualifying doesn't necessarily mean he isn't retired.
Surprisingly, this isn't SortOf's first time playing a televised match in Korea: he played one game in GSTL back in 2013. He was the first victim in a Ganzi all-kill, but still.

Ah yes, you're right :

RagnaroK said "Ji-Hyun" (Patience's name) and I heard it "Ji-Won" (ByuL's name) Patience has played PUBG a lot recently. I'm sorry for misinformation. The guy who plans to switch to PUBG seems to be Patience, not ByuL. (It's not clear whether Patience really switches to PUBG or not.) so we can see ByuL playing SC2 next year
Has a foreigner made it past the Ro32 since the KeSPA merger? I think Naniwa was the last foreigner to make it that far, but that was before the merger.

I guess he didnt expect sos to do the exact same build three games in a row. But yeah I would make a roach warren just for safety there.
hmm sOs's PvZ seems a bit different than most PvZs I've seen. Even thou Adept openings did reemerge recently still they are mostly either all-in with 7-8 gates or strong pressure into fast charge + archons. sOs in this 3 games did instead build quite a lot of adepts and interestingly sentries, delayed charge and templars.

Adept/sentry/immortal trains have been rather hot this patch.

must have missed it then, I usually saw stalkers (blink or not) with sentry pushes into possible transition to colo
I think you need plus 2 air attack to kill a phoenix with less shots than with zero attack upgrades. Until you have +2 it might already be all over. Rotti's stream is educational after all!
Edit: If this info is wrong I remembered it wrong and Rotti must have been talking about a different scenario.

+1 armor does the trick though
okay then it was something else Rotti was talking about, I just remembered that he got asked why he didn't get air attack upgrades, thought it was a phoenix war, maybe it was PvZ instead and he was talking about hydras or something.

Could be that he just hasn't done the numbers for armor upgrades, it's true that +1 attack does nothing. +2 armor is huge btw, number of attacks is 9/10/12/13 for 0/+1/+2/+3

oh +1 armor, I misread your comment.
Yeah getting armor makes sense since phoenix attack twice anyway.

What about shields?
Dear started +1 ground attack...
yeah, seems like getting +1 air armor would be way better in this situation then

It's not really about the 2 attacks, that also makes the attack upgrades give +2 damage each. It's all about that attacks/kill number which is pretty underrated in general. For example everyone knows that attack upgrades are better than armor for roach vs. roach but it doesn't seem like many people are aware that +1 armor does literally nothing under normal circumstances.

Well if phoenix would attack once instead of twice they would have 10+2 instead of (5+1) x 2, so then armor wouldn't be better than attack right?

I guess so. It could also be 10+1 though, 10 is lower than where units usually start getting +2 damage/upgrade e: 10/+1 (+10/+1 vs. light) like the old marauder would probably make most sense in this hypothetical situation

Byul canceled b3, perfect scout, killed the archon drop with no damage, killed the first sentry with few lings, surprised Dear with muta and finally won
I wonder how viable that drop defense actually is, because protoss can just pull his sentries into the warp prism if he knows right? Can you load into a crystal mode prism?
On the other hand it would mean you need to bring your prism into queen range, cool idea either way.

its the proper answer if you didnt open roaches- he just fought too far out on map; and made 4 spines/hydra range/+1 missile he never used

Holy shit, word from on high, thanks!
Always nice when a pro pops in, especially one as great as scarlett ^_^;
I really felt for byul in that fight it felt like if he could have taken his fight on creep near his spines he could have had a better shot and he pulled the trigger too early... I think the appeal was allowing the overlords to get on top of the army abusing the highground/low ground so the stalkers couldn't take shots at them, but it was just all a bit disjointed - not on creep, not utilizing spines, lots of units in production, lings attacking before overlords were there..
Made me really sad to see, really wanted byul to advance! But Dears decision to keep up the aggression was a great one, clearly. He's always been such an aggressive protoss, so congratulations to him!
