Overview
The Voltacus StarLeague will be a unique, persistent league for everyone of all skill levels, stages will be seeded by MMR in the first season, so you'll only face people of your own skill.
When the league is underway you'll play out your tournament as if it were any other, however, when the tournament is finished you'll be promoted or demoted based on your performance.
So if you underperformed in a season, you'll get another chance in the group below in the next 7 week season. On the other hand if you performed well, prepare yourself to take down those above you in David vs Goliath action to create upset upon upset - Will you rise to this challenge?
The whole aim is to create a middle ground between punishing tournaments and leagues and the nightmarish ladder. In order for the league to be at it's best as many people as possible should signup, that way groups will be as close in MMR and skill as possible - so make sure to get everyone you know to signup!
Before announcing the league to the public I gauged interest and had 100 signups in 2 days from a handful of communities.
There will do doubt be a close match for everyone!
Format
The Format of the VSL will be breaking down players of as close MMR as possible and entering them into a stage of 8 players, each stage will be broken down into two groups of 4.
These groups will play out in a Round Robin format for 3 weeks, two will advance from each group to play in a Ro4 after a good weeks break to be able to research and plan for your opponent, after another week to play the Ro4 matches, there will be another break of a week before the finals of each stage.
Every match will be organised within the week given to play an opponent by the players themselves, rather than at a predetermined time - this is to allow those with a more restrictive availability to play their matches without issue!
At the end of the 7 week season, the top two players from each stage will move up to the stage above in skill and the bottom two will drop to the lower one - For example, the two top players from the Platinum 1 stage will move onto the Diamond 3 stage, regardless of whether they are Diamond 3 yet. In reverse, the bottom two players of the Diamond 3 group will drop to the Platinum 1 stage, regardless of whether they are actually Platinum or not.
This mobility of players will make the league act similar to the ladder, however, this is focused around competitive play - people often remark that they are better in tournament atmospheres than they are on ladder - Now is the chance to prove that!
Time Frame and Dates
The first season of the VSL will commence on Monday, July 9th 2018!
Each season is planned to last for 7 weeks, 3 for the group stage, 4 for the bracket/playoff stage.
The period of each season will be 8 weeks/2 months.
The idea behind this short turnover is so that players are free to be as committed as they like to the league without being tied down for months at a time and also gives people that are new to the league more opportunity to join in on the fun!
Features
The VSL is aimed to be as lightweight as possible, however, we will be implementing features that will allow you to find ways to be as competitive as possible within the league, such as an ELO rating system that will track everyone's performance with a number attached!
All results will be posted to the VSL Liquipedia page (Currently under construction) so you can follow everyone's progress and find history on your next opponent!
