wow.. tastosis is there.. the casting lineup is close to the best, having maynard, artosis, rotterdam and incontrol..pff.. I don`t even know who else I miss from there as host/caster.
Looking forward to some good games, thanks again Blizz for doing this!

Really? Thought they wouldn't really play anymore and just playing the tournament because it's in spain. I guess Stephano is now in danger of not making it past first group stage with his ZvZ oO.
Edit: Well, result was changed to 2:0 Masa - just a liquipedia troll it seems :>.
so sad for Vortix vs Stephano.. 1 of them will be out.. Stephano just barely is getting back to his shape, strong at HSC.. but really poor ZvZ Vortix, hometown favourite, hihg MMR zerg.. (rumours 6800, good ZvZ) whoever will fail to qualify, i will be sad
Steph is tactically brillant in both zvp and zvt but in zvz... He is always late in positionning and has 0 lecture of his opponent's army movement... Still gg vortix, I am glad to see him again.
It's double time too cause they first said that Lucifron beat Masa 2-0 in the first match, then changed that to 0-2, then 2-1 in the rematch changed to 1-2
Is there any reason why dreamhack insists on using 720p60 for sc2 when all of dreamhack's other games are streaming at 1080p60 with the same bitrate? Looks like ass.

Hm, is the quality of the games a little lower than it should be? Looks like 720p when the casters are on camera, but in game it looks more like a dark 480p or so.

I think the solution to GSL style groups is to give the player who won the first series in case of a rematch a 1-game advantage. Maybe you pair that with turning the decider match into a best of 5, but that would be more viable in the actual GSL when they aren't doing 3 group stages in a day.
The thing is, if your mom sounded weird, would you even notice it? Since you have been listening to her all your life, it would obviously sound normal to you, but in reality she might sound weird.

I feel like it would play out almost identically to sOs herO at IEM Katowice in 2014. sOs wins 4-1 by outsmarting and outmicroing Has and drops a map to a straight build order loss.

Because of his age he can't compete in WCS tournaments so technical he's not part of the World team. (My best guess). It does suck considering he's breaking out right now. IMO he's the premier storyline of this tournament and it's being missed. I hope that they put the focus on him if he gets through this stage.

I'm starting to believe. I think he'll only be knocked out by Serral (maybe Special or Neeb, but those games would be close).

The ability to play an insane game is impressive. The ability to win a tournament is something else. Reynor is playing very well, don't get me wrong, but it's a long way from the Group Stages to the trophy.

RO16 in GSL, bopped Classic in a decider match, and has cruised to RO16 here. Kinda worth the hype. Youngest ever GM player, this is his first eligible WCS event. Why are you upset with people being excited?

He beat Solar recently in an online tournament, so possibly good though I feel like every time I've expected Solar to do something in ZvZ since before the 2016 WCS Global Finals has lead to disappointment.
So many great matches happening right now. TRUE vs DnS has potential (despite DnS shitting the bed earlier), Mana vs Bly if I recall correctly was a Dreamhack Final once upon a time. Scarlet vs PtitDrogo should be good, Special vs Elazer is a fantastic matchup, Neeb vs Snute is an epic matchup too.
Wow, I just tuned in and I have to say... that production seems really... sluggish. I'm still under the great impression of HomestoryCup where games were switches all the time instantly. This showing from replay with already known results is kind of lame. Then hearing the deskhosts reading some results while they already could be in another game...? Well... Okay, so no other series that Reynor's competed in are "good series"? I assumed the "one good series" was in reference to him destroying Showtime just now.
Are you seriously implying Showtime is a nobody? He's probably the best protoss player in Europe, and easily one of Europe's top 4 players I'd say.
But hey, keep moving those goalposts if you want there bud.
I mean Reynor is really good but i think he also profits a bit from ZvP being a little Z favored at foreign level (at least it seems like this to me). Nontheless he will have a pretty bright future if he holds this level.

Personally I wish people would ease up a bit on the Reynor hype, even though I love child prodigies and thus Reynor (and I gotta say, he does look like the real deal). Rigging it is any bracket that doesn't follow the rules they set out. SpeCial complained about it during a tournament in 2017 as he was IIRC given a much earlier date with Neeb than the rules said he should have gotten.

It should be 1v16 8v9 4v13 5v12
2v15 7v10 3v14 6v11
Players are ranked by group placement and WCS points.

Aight, since I'm sure this will come up later, you've pussied out twice now. Deal's officially off.

You remember right, but Ej was faster than you. iAsonu without any armor upgrades in a 17 minute ZvZ :o

No, correct team. Silky also lost so he isn't safe either :D.
Assuming I can do math, it should be: (1) Serral vs (16) Harstem (8) Reynor vs (9) SpeCial (4) Heromarine vs (13) Scarlett (5) uThermal vs (12) Kelazhur
(2) Neeb vs (15) DnS (7) Clem vs (10) Showtime (3) Nerchio vs (14) Bly (6) Has vs (11) Snute
The bottom bracket can be flipped upside down if they want 1 and 2 to be visually on the opposite side of the bracket though it doesn't make any difference in terms of who plays who.

They ended the stream before group stage 3 was finished, so no on stream bracket draw. They don't actually do a bracket draw but they SHOULD have stayed around to reveal it.

They showed his series vs. Elazer on the main stream but his series vs SpeCial was not covered on the main stream and I'm not sure if anyone casted it.
Reynor's ZvP was super impressive today, however if the brackets are based on seed, he won't get a Protoss until likely the finals, unless THE YEAR OF HARSTEM IS REAL

The thing is he is not specially good against protoss or anything. His zvt is pretty solid too, and he says his best matchup is zvz. We'll see.

Giving that he spent some time training in Korea and 2-0d Ryung, I have good feelings for this young boy
I, uh, don't understand that bracket. Parts of it follow the rules but parts of it looks like they just made shit up.
I'm not a Scarlett fan and am not happy that she's inevitably going to make it to GSL vs. The World over WCS Circuit players with greater results in WCS tournaments, but man did she get boned.
How are these determined anyway? Does the WCS standings have anything to do with it? If so you'd expect #1 (Serral) and #4 (Showtime) on one side of the bracket and #2 (Special) and #3 (Neeb) on the other. Neeb and Showtime were even in the same round 3 group.

As far as I understood it: Players who finished 1st in their round 3 group are seeded 1-8 based on WCS Circuit points. Players who finished 2nd in their round 3 group are seeded 9-16 based on WCS Circuit points.
They are then matched up: 1v16 8v9 4v13 5v12
2v15 7v10 3v14 6v11
That should have given us: (1) Serral vs (16) Harstem (8) Reynor vs (9) SpeCial (4) Heromarine vs (13) Scarlett (5) uThermal vs (12) Kelazhur

it's a weird way to cook the books. What can explain the setup?
I think they just seeded the winners from the third groupstage from 1 to 8 according to WCS points, and then 9 to 16 were drawn randomly between the second placed players in the third groupstage

Hmm, and they didn't need to correct anything to not have group stage #3 match ups in RO16 so I wonder what's going on here.

I suppose that is possible, but why on earth would you do that? It makes sense to either fully seed or go full random (possibly with no non-finals group stage rematches), not half seed and half random. I suppose you could also let the seeded players select their first round opponent.
It also doesn't make sense to use a format different than what it is used to determine playoff seeding for the WCS Global Finals.

Maybe to avoid 1st and 2nd place finishers from the same group facing each other in the RO16 (tho that wouldn't have happened this time, but you never know I guess?)
I'm pretty stoked for Special vs Reynor. That's such a great test of Reynor's skill, and one that really could go either way. While the players at 5th place and worse in WCS points might shift a lot between this tournament and Montreal, I think the players in 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th are exactly who they should be. So it's fitting that after beating Showtime, Europe's best protoss player (and 4th best foreigner in my opinion, and 4th in WCS points) Reynor now fights Special, best foreign terran player (and arguably best foreign terran player ever, Thorzain's the only one with a better pedigree), 3rd best foreigner, and if he beats him he takes on the best foreigner overall in Serral. It's a hell of a trial by fire no doubt, but that adds to the epic narrative unfolding.
Still wish it wasn't happening in the RO16, and I REALLY wish Serral vs Special or Reynor wasn't a RO8 match, but I'm excited for these games nevertheless!
