I beat it on Hard after many tries and finally getting lucky with a partner that didn't somehow pull mobs into our base. I was trying the spidermine placements and lost a lot of vultures to fungals, storms, and nukes, but I finally got it. I don't think I will be messing with this one on brutal unless someone is trying to solo it with Alarak/Raynor and just wants a partner to drop mines or provide guardian shield as they challenge themselves. I can't imagine the challenge if this ever got mixed in with void rifts and maybe even avenger or the deployment mutations.

After nexus, tech ASAP to ascendants. You can solo the first two sets of bots with Alarak and overcharge. Then build up an army of about 1-3 Havocs, 16 Ascendents, and the rest all Supplicants on six Gateways of production. Around 10 minutes into the game, get three forges, and chorno all the forge upgrades. You can basically solo the rest of the game this way with Alarak, Ascendents, Empower Me, Emergency overcharge and Death Fleet Calldowns. Some tricks:

Amazing example of a bad design. No matter how you play, if your ally doesnt have understanding, he can ruin whole mission.

Sometimes I hope for a bit of a nerf with the really difficult mutations like this one and that portal one a few weeks ago.

Didn't even know you could set restock mines on autocast lol, the ~24 vultures I made lasted the entire game (only upgraded the 2 mine stuff from fact tech lab). Your Alarak ally should help clear the geysers early along with your calldown banshees before the bots move out, so you can save your Hyperion (for aa) and start mining up all the spawn points/chokes before the waves come. Then re-mine after each wave.

Alarak still I'm sure can almost solo this, but every little mistake kills you. Having an Artanis ally really helps saving you once in a while if you miss avoiding a nuclear.

But with SoA masteries, you should have enough black holes to use unless you are summoning shadow guards. Here are some extra notes about the transmutation mutator. https://www.reddit.com/r/starcraft/comments/54j2z6/coop_mutation_20_growing_threat/d83pv5s Besides tiers, enemies that kill one of your units or structures will definitely evolve. Time stop and black hole does not prevent detonations. I was able to beat it as Vorazun with an Artanis partner vs Protoss. He went whirlwind zealots and tempests. I went dt/sair, but I opened with stun centurions to stop enemies from attacking, which also allows for a mineral sink if needed. Used black hole, time stop and SoA masteries. There is one wave after the third extraction where a hybrid attack wave will come from the right side of the map, we had a black hole + solar bombardment combo that helped removing that threat before it could attack/snowball. Played it safe by not doing bonus and trying to not aggro too much.

Photon Overcharge takes care of the first wave easily and helps a lot in against normal waves as well. Ascendents kills all waves plus the broodlings. They can snipe Hybrids easily while Alarak himself tanks the nuke. I just watched the video of you and CrystalDazz, from his perspective, and the first 10+ minutes is him just macroing and making tempests as you wipe the map solo with Alarak. Seems so powerful in skilled hands.

Signs that enemies are going ground: 1st wave zlot, roaches, marines and medics (not always, though; in the past, at least) Signs that enemies are going air: 1st wave vikings, lings, adepts Lings can absolutely destroy you in the first wave, so I just restart if I see them. Later on, they will die to mines, but the scourge will destroy any air you have. By the 4th/5th waves, raynor should shine vs the ground armies with his vast field of mines from all attack paths. I made vikings, which were helpful, but my F2A style just made that a liability. Another note for other F2A players: I opened with 7-8 marines to kill the rocks and put them into bunkers later.

Damn this brutal+hard combination though. I've attempted this 20ish times, beating few times, and it's probably always been 2x brutal. Now for the first time met with hard, and I can basically afk half the game, while ally hasn't done anything noteworthy either. Is this difficulty really between hard and brutal? Because I would have believed if someone said this was normal*2. Maybe it just feels such nonsense with the game speed being affected a lot.

Is this difficulty really between hard and brutal? Because I would have believed if someone said this was normal*2. Maybe it just feels such nonsense with the game speed being affected a lot. As someone that plays a lot on Hard with one friend and occasionally Brutal with another, yes. The jump from Hard to Brutal is bigger than Casual to Hard. It's a pretty big leap. In Lock & Load, which I've been grinding for Brutal wins as Karax, when I am paired with Hard, it shows based on the waves (and of course the slower speed). One wave may be 6 marines and a tank while the one from the other side is 20 marines, 6 tanks, 4-5 medics, and a raven. According to the latest Dev update, they're looking to smoothen out the difficulties by making Harder a bit harder and then Brutal even more difficult. This should make the transitions a bit better so that those that find Hard too easy, but Brutal too hard, have a home as well as those that find Brutal too easy. I'm grinding out those wins now because I don't know what's in store for the Brutal difficulty jump, but I look forward to seeing how crazy the default Brutal difficulty will become and how they will do it.

I'm a bit worried about them making brutal harder without looking at buffing Zagara. While the rest of the commanders would be okay, Zagara can run out of steam on harder compositions without artanis to make her army shred anything and everything.
