Time to get some rivalries going in this sub! I'm sure there's lots of people who have netplay and would love to see how well they fare against other TLers. If this generates enough hype we could even try to stream top 8 or 4!
Naturally, we need to ensure the least amount of lag possible for this. So please specify which region you belong to in the following poll. I didnt add canada separately because I'm not sure whether you guys can easily connect to ec or wc. Either way, if you cant connect to people from the listed regions, pick other and tell us where you are. If there's enough people there's always a possibility.
Only vote if you have netplay and intend to join these tourneys
Poll: Your netplay regioneastcoast (6) 18% westcoast (13) 38% europe (13) 38% other (please specify) (2) 6% 34 total votes Your vote: Your netplay region (Vote): eastcoast (Vote): westcoast (Vote): europe (Vote): other (please specify)
Once we have a clear image of the amount of people we can start discussing the format and timeframe of this thing.

Also, feel free to post suggestions/ideas here. Get some discussion going because if people are only gonna vote in the poll this topic will be buried quickly.

i don't want to kill the mood but melee is pretty much unplayable between northern and western europe afaik

We can split it up if there's enough people from both north/west. I think its acceptable up until 5 buffer, after that it's a bit too much yeah. I didn't really think of this since Belgium is pretty central and I've got acceptable ping towards everyone

west coast deadest coast on netplay IRCs so hopefully this gets going

Have you been using www.smashladder.com because I tend to see a fair amount of WC representation there. Admittedly west coast seems to have a much smaller user base than EC but it certainly isn't dead

how would i be able to check my connection to people in EC/WC. I'm living in the UP of michigan right now so pretty isolated from both. My only experiences with netplay are to midwest players. Otherwise I'd be interested in participating in some of these eventually.

Yeah I have, it's the deadest coast meaning it's worse than the only other coast that exists but really WC is like 1/3 the size of EC on netplay which is disappointing.

Great! I hope this doesn't withhold anyone from playing. A lot of people who play netplay are rather new/scrubby. I should know cuz I'm totally one of them :D

Can the people who are voting also post their info in this topic? Gives me a better overview and chance at organizing stuff.
If anyone wants to step up and help manage their region (set up challonge, contact players for matches & scores, etc) that'd be great too. If its not too many people I don't mind doing it by myself but help is always welcome.

darthfoley: EC Falcon main
Never used nor set up Netplay, but I would try it for something like this.
|
EC, Marth main but I play Fox/Falcon/Sheik sometimes. I'm super casual and mostly use netplay to play with friends outside my region, but I'd be interested in participating in a TL event.

wc peach main, i dont find too much time to play, but the netplay sessions ive had have always been pretty fun. a tourney/ladder sounds pretty awesome though
