Kind of indifferent for Smash 4. I don't see it sticking around very long in the pro scene, to be honest.

It's more hype than anything else at this point. Politics, bro. If you think about it, it was pretty clear from Day One what would happen. Somehow get Nintendo's blessing? Melee will make an appearance. Same old story between Nintendo and Smash community? Eat it, Melee. Thankfully they've decided not to go the route of Blizzard. Best possible outcome would be that Nintendo would also give the green light to Project M, but it's understandable they wouldn't want to support a mod that benefits them by little to no amount, and seeing the support for Melee, I'm happy.

Dont' be sad This is pretty awesome. I'm not sure what I think of Smash 4 yet (haven't played it myself) but this is a good thing I think.

To be honest, I see Nintendo as just another Blizzard. I also posted a lot about this in a different forum.

And the Smash community is another version of the starcraft community. "Why don't we just play brood war? Why wont blizzard support brood war?" Because they just spent a fortune developing Smash for Wii? This is most likely an olive branch to the smash community. Time to let it go and play smash 4 if you want the nintendo backing.

It's everything you could ever hope for in a casual 4-player FFA game. Its engine is also very well suited for competitive 2v2s, and I wouldn't be surprised to see this format being the main focal point of SSB4. As for 1v1s, it's extremely matchup dependent, as well as fairly playstyle dependent. Rushdown characters on stages with reasonably close blast zones are very fun to both play and to spectate. Campy characters on stages with further blast zones (such as Battlefield, tragically) can be a bore, especially if someone chooses to play them as defensively as possible, which is quite frequent when a Westerner is involved. Imagine what Melee would be like at about 80% gravity, and all the best characters are Jigglypuff, Link, and Samus, and the like. It will have a few years of life in it, but it will take some subtle, yet critical universal changes made in future patches (one such change has been made already, as of patch 1.0.4), as well as DLC stages with more reasonable blast zones in order to make it timeless, the way Melee has proven to be. + Show Spoiler + It really doesn't require much alteration at all to achieve greatness. Remove air dodge out of tumble, increase shield stun, add a few more directional cancelable frames to the initial dash animation, and maybe bump up the hitstun from .4x to .45x and that should easily do it for competitive 1v1s.

It is good. It's just different from melee. If you want Nintendo support (and the scene does need it because nintendo is not going to be hands-off) then you have to let it go. Maybe not this year, but in the next 2 for sure.
