The issue with this whole thing is that Kane is going about hockey business like nothing happened. His teammates and the league are following suit. This is a serious allegation that is not being treated as such because people don't want to believe sexual assault victims.
Someone on PPP made a great argument that if you had a co-worker under investigation for murder, child abuse, manslaughter, or the like, would you expect them to come to work and think that everything is normal? An allegation of rape is just as serious of a crime, with the number of false reports about equal to the number of false accusations of murder [per the PPP article].
I agree with the sentiment that we should not jump to conclusions and vilify Kane, I think the process is important. But the only reason people accept Kane's position is his status as an elite athlete. We value our hockey so much, but sometimes we lose sight of its essential meaninglessness when compared to something like this rape investigation.

People make that comparison, but they are radically different cases. All of those examples you mentioned, the accused is almost always arrested right away since they are at the scene, or there is overwhelming evidence and they are a flight risk/danger. It's usually not a matter of did he do it, but did he do it as claimed, ie the difference between murder one and murder two.
This case, like many rape cases, is essentially a he-said, she-said. But far more importantly, he's not even been arrested or charged. I really, really do not like the thought of being suspended for something he's not even been arrested/charged.
If Kane got charged, I'm almost certain the league would suspend him at the point.
The whole thing has just been a mess for both sides. After the leak (which sounded ridiculous from the start and now it's looking more and more like the accusor's camp did something shady) people automatically assumed it was Kane's camp, and argued that he should have been suspended for that. Huh? And then there's all the shitty victim blaming and stuff, you'd think that a human can't change their mind after going home with someone.

At this point I don't know what to think about this stupid case. I'm starting to believe more and more that the accuser is just trying to get money from Kane. There was no DNA evidence on the accuser they had already searched his house and if they had found condoms or something I'm almost positive that someone would have said something about them by now. It just seems like there is suddenly a lot of shady shit happening and its coming from the accusing side and not Kane's camp which makes it seem more and more like the allegations may have been made up from the start

Just because the accusation is serious doesn't mean it is true. No one should have to stop work just for an accusation.

If charges were laid, I'd agree with all you people saying he should be suspended.
Until then, it is just an accusation, and people get accused of stuff all the time. It's only news because it's Kane at the moment. Once/if he gets charged, the team's/league's reaction will likely be very different. You just cant hand out suspensions to players because someone threw an accusation at them, that makes no sense.

Or else you'd see people throwing out accusations at key players during the playoffs. It might be interesting to see playoff series mostly full of pluggers.
