Wiggins played better over the season and all but he's also played a lot more minutes and for a shittier team. Plus Mirotic is beating him in efficiency. I'm also a Bulls fan so there's that

not sure how playing on a worse team is a knock against wiggins. minny's spacing is hilariously bad, and he played the majority of the year with some truly horrible possession players like mo williams and thad young. he's getting his points in pretty tough ways and not reliant on offense created by other players.

I'd say Noel, Wiggins, Mirotic, Payton are the top 4. Don't know who would be a 5th... Jordan Clarkson has been playing well too. Clarkson is not good. Doesn't pass or can't pass when he has the ball, and not great playing off the ball either.

I think playing on a good team is more meaningful because of overall team impact and such. I would value overall team performance and winning into any individual award such as this one, MVP, etc. Obviously if there's a better performance then you give it to that person. I don't think age should matter for ROTY either, imo it should go to the best player eligible. For example Lillard played 3 years of college but that didn't invalidate his candidacy either. I personally would vote for Mirotic to win but could see an argument for Wiggins because Mirotic only started getting a ton of minutes when people when down for injury. Wiggins is a little better of a shot creator but Mirotic's getting a decent number of his points off drives and as the ballhandler in a 4/5 PnR (which is hilarious to watch) and in the post. He's not just a spot-up shooter/roll man. if you can look halfway decent on a team coached by Byron Scott you're probably a good player.

When Lionel Hollins is ranked #23, that's pretty good. You could only really complain about the bottom 5 or so as being rather bad. IMO Doc at 8 shows that the depth of great coaches is not that high. He is below the cutoff of coaches that have a positive impact on their teams ability to win (although I'd put Vogel and Stevens ahead of him), hes part of the "gives you exactly what the talent level of your team is" tier, and everything Blatt/Brooks and below is basically "better off with Scalabrine as player coach".

He's a scoring spacing guy that can potentially switch on a PnR on defense (not the best at it but serviceable), play 3 if need be (not as good as 4 but goddamn were the bulls shorthanded) guard 5s on some possessions. He's not Ryan Anderson, he can post up decent as well and like I said has the ability to catch, pump fake, and drive for a layup. He's a pretty good passer out of the pick and roll. He's a good defender. Yes he's primarily a 3 and D guy but he's a REALLY good 3 and D guy and as I said, can do more than that when need be, it's not like he's averaging 20 ppg by sitting at the 3 point line and launching bombs. I think people in general overvalue ball handling and undervalue utility players who do a lot of everything. Yes you need ball handlers, yes being a ball handler makes you extremely valuable, but there's also a lot to be said for a guy who can do multiple things on both ends of the floor at a high level. If you don't have enough of those guys then you end up in an OKC situation where a lot of their bench players either can only primarily play offense or primarily play defense. If you look at it from a trade value which guy potentially has a better ceiling then I'd agree with you- Wiggins has the potential to be a huge star, Mirotic tops out as a 3rd option, but a really good one. However I don't think potential is the only/biggest criteria for the award because at some point you're guessing how good people are going to be. I think I also thought of ROTY as "which rookie has played the best in their rookie year", and to me I would give it to Mirotic because he's more valuable as a player to his team this year.

He's like Randy Wittman on the Wizards or Mark Jackson before with the Warriors. They can motivate their players and get them to buy in on how they want the team to play, but how they want the team to play isn't very good. I just recently read a takedown of Wittman's offense. His players run his system well but his strategy is terrible. There is a reason Brooks' offense is called the clogged toilet.
