The inaugural College Football playoff ended with Ohio State defeating Oregon in the National Championship Game to become the first team outside of the southeast US to win since the 2005 Texas Longhorns. Overall, the playoffs appear to be well received by the public although there was still some debate about TCU and Baylor being left out.
The New Years 6 Bowl winners were:
Peach: TCU 42-3 Ole Miss
Fiesta: Boise State 38-30 Arizona
Orange: Georgia Tech 49-34 Mississippi State
Cotton: Michigan State 42-41 Baylor
Rose: Oregon 59-20 Florida State
Sugar: Ohio State 42-35 Alabama
National Championship: Ohio State 42-20 Oregon
This season, the semifinals of the playoff will be hosted by the Peach Bowl and Fiesta Bowl on December 31, 2015. The national championship game will be played at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida, on January 9, 2016.
There was no conference realignment prior to the start of this season but the University of Alabama at Birmingham has discontinued their football program.
