Yes. And that is just how bad the East has been. Mediocrity is basically elite in the East.

I like the Bulls so I'd like to see them win, and I can understand why they'd want to fire Thibs, but looking at Reinsdorf's history as an owner kinda frustrates me. He lucked into MJ, hired a GM in Krause who was known for having only one good draft and trading Oakley for Cartwright, then let that same GM chase away Phil Jackson and hired Tim Floyd.. and we all know how that went down. Reinsdorf is one hell of a businessman and he's always gonna have 6 NBA titles and an MLB title to his name but it seems that he's made a lot of questionable decisions along the way. I wouldn't be surprised if the Bulls had the same luck as they did the last time they hired an Iowa State coach. I guess they should at least get credit for trying someone new, as it's always been weird to me how the NBA just recycles the same coaches over and over again. I am also torn as a Bulls fan because the initial post-Jordan era was kinda terrible. They had Elton Brand and then went for the Chandler-Curry combo debacle, then going for Ty Thomas over Aldridge. That said, since that time they have been (kinda sadly) the 2nd/3rd best organization in the East (Heat, Celtics) and its really not close whoever is 4 (Hawks probably). And, with health they would have been an outstanding team the last 5 years. And the health thing is why Thibs got fired, because people blame him (IMO correctly) for a lot of the injury problems of the Bulls, and not just Rose, but Deng, Noah, Gibson, Butler. Plus he never really developed the bench properly so guys like Butler, Asik, Mirotich were a year or two behind in experience when the injuries happened and couldn't immediately step in.
Thibs is that marathon runner who starts fast out of the gate, ranks among the leaders at mile 13, starts slowing down, then has to be carried into an ambulance after mile 20. And he does it every single year. It's so sad, it has become funny to me at this point.
Also, I'm hoping the Warriors win this year because they aren't built on lottery luck. Steph is a 7th pick, Klay 11th, Barnes 7th. Their highest pick is Bogut, who another team gave up on. It shows you can win without getting a top 3 pick in the lottery.

Kyle Lowry does the same thing.
i think we need a separate NBA thread for each game of the finals so i can talk about how great Lebron is in 5 places at once.

I think Thibs would be an excellent college coach. He clearly knows the game and I love the intensity his teams play with. But over the course of an 82 game season, plus the playoffs, it's just too hard to keep that up without wearing down, and you need your teams to be peaking at the end of the season, not the middle. Sam Smith wrote a good article about Thibs after they fired him, the intensity that he demands from his team is also how he lives his life. Unfortunately, I don't think he's ever gonna change how he coaches and, while his teams will always be solid, I doubt we'll ever see him winning a title.

Thibs can't coach an elite offence. He was revolutionary on the defensive side but his teams have never been good enough offensively to go all the way.

It's said all the time, but Thibs and D'Antoni are polar opposite genius coaches.

It was more injury luck and signing chronically injured players cheaply (Curry & Bogut), then hoping they get healthy.
