Great to see Sagan finally get a win, and a good one at that, out-sprinting both Degenkolb and Bouhanni for the win. Valverde looked shaky on stage 2, but bounced back excellently today winning a stage well designed for him.

Esteban Chavez riding excellent so far. Two stage wins in 5 days of racing and a red jersey to go with it. I have my doubts he will be holding it a few days from now...but already one heck of a great Vuelta for him. Orica as well now already having three wins

Glad you made one for La Vuelta This has been strange so far.....The Tour guys better start going down the standings otherwise my suspicion level will rise again Going for Aru or Rodriguez in my velogames! Hope they dont dissapoint.

I'm at work so I couldnt follow the stage properly. Is Landa going for the KOM? or was today's break just for the stage win? I have him in my team (as well as Aru and Rodriguez :D) but I reckon he is quite far on the GC.

Rough day for most of the tour guys. Majka and Valverde held it together okay, but everybody else struggled, including Quintana. Which I guess makes sense given he is a smaller guy coming off a hard tour and smaller guys generally end 8p giving higher % of FTP even when riding in the bunch and could thus be more fatigued. Nice 1-2 from Astana. Mikel had a nice win from the break and Aru clearly looked best of the rest. Yea he is facing tired GC studs from the tour but he definitely seems like a promising rider. Still rooting for either Quintana or Majka. Also...fucking motorbikes. First Sagan, now Serj Pauls. Not to mention Avermaet a few weeks ago in position to win San Sebastiaan. How do you even fuck that up anyway? It's pretty rare to get hit by a car out riding...and that's with hordes of distracted drivers. In a tour you have one job...pilot the motorbike without hitting riders and somehow that gets consistently screwed up. Unbelievable incompetence.

Wonder if he drops or goes for support and a stage or two He has a broken foot. He is out of La Vuelta. Nonetheless, this was not for him. And it is not for Valverde or Quintana either as they rode hard in the Tour. Majka and Rodriguez are the only Tour riders that have some business doing good results now as they werent full on during the Tour. The others should start droping down as the days go by. I'm sad Landa is not on his full strenght (to contest the GC like in the Giro, despite waiting for Aru more than once). Or maybe he is and that stage where he lost a lot of time was just some crash or something? Still, aru getting stronger seems like we will have a big fight between Rodriguez and him for the GC (I still cant believe Dumoulin and, as far as logic works, sooner or later he will have a bad day in the mountains and loose a lot of time). I rather have Rodriguez winning as this will probably be his last chance to win a GT and Im sure Aru will have other chances during his career. Chavez is a nice surprise, still, due to his age and relative lack of full 3 weeks experience I think he may be struggling on the coming stages. Hope I'm wrong thou and we have another contender.

Bad news is at 3:00 down it will take a minor miracle for him to claw back enough time to win...or the TT ride of his life with the others struggling. Good day overall for Aru. Too aggressive early and paid a bit at the end but still a sign of good form and really pulled through towards the end under pressure when he knew he had to.

This Vuelta just might be the most exciting GT of the season here in the finish. Each day has time for things to come back together, but not much. If Aru gets the right attack he might be able to get back some seconds he needs. That or finish ahead of Doumalin and in the top 3 tomorrow for time bonuses on the kicker climb Friday. Doumalin has been good at those so far though. Doumalin should be fine tomorrow, provided no off day. The climbs are reasonable at around 6% and forecast is calling for some head/cross wind...not ideal for any sort of attack right before the summit to try and gain a handful of seconds.

I hope Aru gets the 3 seconds back and scores his first GT. Dumoulin's performance has been god like for a TT guy...and I cant help but wonder how. Another thing I can't seem to get is why is Dumoulin all of a sudden so good for the commentators for being able to keep up in the mountains and destroy the competition on the TT, when the same commentators trashed wiggins 5 times a day (even in races where he wasn't there) because he did not win mountain stages for fun or because he wasn't able to produce proper gaps in the mountains "relying on the TT to make the difference". Still, not much left to go and not so many stages for Aru to leave Dumoulin behind....lets see if he can make it. I like Dumoulin but I rather have another guy win this.

With Wiggins I think it's a combination of factors. He had a rider on his team better than him and all he did was use his team to win the tour and excel on TT. The tour Wiggins won was arguably the worst tour ever. Dumoulin is more like a fairytale.

The tour Wiggins won was arguably the worst tour ever. Dumoulin is more like a fairytale. Arguably in the only stage Froome had more legs than him he wouldn't make up for the huge gap wiggins put on him during the TTs. You can argue the same about Dumoulin, he is using Katuxa and Astana pretty well lol as Froome used Movistar to some extent this year (they helped him more than damage him some stages). I don't know why that was the worst Tour ever but ok Regarding Dumoulin and the fairytale....I hope I'm wrong and that he was hiding himself to present a show on this year's Tour. Nevertheless, he showed power again today. If I was Aru I would be beaten as hell tonight seeing him counter attack at the end and making me look weak. Damn the guy still has a lot of power. Aru will have to come up with something special to get the red.

- Been fun for me, for variety, watching Dennis tear up USAPC and now Doumalin having a glorious Vuelta. Dennis truely looked like someone that could be a GT contender a year or two down the line. Yes, he didn't face any legit threats but the manner in which he did it was extremely impressive. Tomorrow is probably the last real sliver of hope, barring misfortune, for Aru as it does end in a slight uphill kicker. The downside of course is that Doumalin is pretty good at those types of finishes and will certainly beat him to the line if they are neck and neck. - Doumalin looked good today, but that was expected. At those power levels on a 5% grade like today is favored for Doumalin. We can assume from the climbing that Doumalin is only marginally below the w/kg that Aru is putting out. Even at an 7% difference of relative power(i.e. Aru at 6.5 w/kg, Doumalin at 6.05w/kg) Doumalin will actually be faster going up the climb than Aru. - I will say that will Doumalin has been riding nice, much had to happen for him to get this far. He didn't have to deal with top competiton in the form of Froome, Contador, or Quintana (at any measure of strength). The rest of the guys are either guys a tier down like Aru, or both a tier down and coming of the tour like Majka and Purito. He also was fortunate there were no super steep climbs overall in this Vuelta. Last year's Vuelta had a climb with 3k @ 18% where I'm sure he would lose 1 min+ on, and god forbid a climb like the Mortirolo from the Giro was in the Vuelta...Doumalin would have no chance on a climb like that; we could expect him to lose at least 2:45 on such a climb and possibly far more if he tried to hard to follow attacks. - What he is doing is not unprecedented either, as guys like Wiggins (albeit with major team help) and Big Mig have done before. There is a certain mold of guy that can be almost a top TT guys, but also lean enough that he can hang with other climbers on all but double digit gradients.
